Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

It's fine lane I once took dd bowling in pyjamas by accident , she got them as a birthday present and I thought they were day clothes until the person who got them for her mentioned the pyjamas she'd got for her...now I look at them and wonder how I ever thought they were day clothes 🤔🤔

My dc would think a pyjamas shirt was a normal shirt too tbh, they don't own any button down pyjamas either and I don't think they ever have!

LittlemissAWOL · 25/07/2020 17:59

Home from park DC demolished half the fruit bowl while I got the washing in and put the last lot out.

Made butter chicken and rice for dinner.
Now waiting for the creme brûlée's to cool.

I've just persuaded DS4 that he wants milk so I have an excuse to sit and ignore the dishes for a bit 🤣

Still need to wrap all of DS2 birthday presents for tomorrow.

Lane - I've never seen most of the original Disneys, videos didn't get commonplace till I was about 15 and my DCs weren't huge fans although we had most on DVD. So I like the live action ones but quite understand why others wouldn't.

Meg - that marsh is where I used to live, only we were uphill a bit on the other side of the main road. The retail park side is completely unrecognisable from when I lived there, the factory that was there previously had just closed down and remained derelict until after I'd moved away.

We've had torrential rain here too today, DH, DD and I went to a drive-in theatre show today and it was great fun despite the rain.

More tidying, tomorrow is a work day but I have decided to declutter my nail varnish collection when I get home.

KT - hope you have a lovely weekend. I loved Dinky the blue tit the other day.

Good odd? I would quite like to try that because of the stellar cast! DH also said there’s a new series on prime with Nick Frost and Martin Freeman?! Frankly at the moment though I’m obsessed with watching Hoarders so that’s all I want to watch 😳

I’ve been quite lazy this evening. I should do a third list but meh

Bowerbird5 · 25/07/2020 20:16

Ta da
S&S
Bed made
Some magazine stuff sorted, recipe research, kept some out for this week. Going to have a Greek menu for a day or two hopefully.
Quick tidy in sitting room.
Chickens fedx2
Chickens cleaned out. Not much poo in coop👌
Made lunch. Sandwich doorstep - ham, salad.
Washed up

Went to view a house in nearby village. DS looking for a house in the countryside with a garden complete surprise to us. He did some repairs uncovered a problem and ended up getting his mate to knock down the wall and door to utility and making it all one to give him a galley kitchen. His house is lovely inside. It is a Victorian red brick terrace in a quiet street in the city but it just has a small yard. It had some stone flags in it and we gave him some of ours and bought a few more and it has a strip of garden at the side and he usually grows tomatoes in pots.
So quite a surprise to find him thinking of moving. Might have something to do with DS2 moving to a country village a couple of years ago.

Lovely to see you Foxes and That also AWOL

SC just for you.

That’s understandable ed - it’s one of those things where they’re probably brilliant in their own right, but I just can’t get past the comparison 😳

One of my absolute favourite live action films from childhood was Hook. But I haven’t watched it since RW died 😰 it makes me cry at the best of times.

Oh they used to like Beethoven too. I find it hard to watch some things as an adult now though? Like in one of the Beethoven films there’s a horrible scene with a teen boy at a party. Useful talking points with older kids mind you. I’m quite pleased when DD1 yells at Ross Geller for being possessive and controlling :o

Bowerbird5 · 25/07/2020 20:26

Zoo I can’t believe you missed... Chicken Run.

The one about the girl and the gosling. ..Fly ?

Bowerbird5 · 25/07/2020 20:27

Fly Away Home

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/07/2020 20:38

Bower* chicken run ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Well I clear half dining table
Fed little ones snacky tea
Another load wash done, fold and put away

I am now retiring to watch TV and eat a sandwich.cany be bothered tonight!!

LaneBoy · 25/07/2020 20:40

Oh I love chicken run! I count that as animated though so didn’t mention it. The caglets prefer pirates in an adventure with scientists of the aardman range though. I watched the wrong trousers endlessly too - I love the penguin! Apparently chicken run is getting a sequel?!

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/07/2020 20:42

Hello all. Finding it impossible to keep up with the thread! Lots of great film suggestions!

We did home bleugh today so that was good. Unfortunately DD2 then spilt pink nail varnish on DD1’s carpet do upstairs stinks of nail polish remover. All windows open but it is not enough!

Totally agree about watching things as an adult. Absolutely Friends. I used to love it and desperately wanted Ross and Rachel to be together. Now I just find him terrifying because I see that he absolutely is that controlling Mr Nice Guy Sad.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/07/2020 20:44

Also for films if your DD (or DS of course) likes ballet films then Center Stage is fab. It does have some slightly adult themes (eating disorders are one plot line and one night stands are alluded to) so it might be a bit too old. It is worth watching for the brilliant final dance sequence if nothing else though Grin. Plus a nice theme throughout about believing in yourself.

LittlemissAWOL · 25/07/2020 20:46

Oh I love fly away home!

My favourite ones as a child were Labyrinth, willow and time bandits.

My boys like all the marvel films and Star Wars mainly.

Well I've done the dishes and wrapped presents. That's me done for the day now.

squanderedcore · 25/07/2020 20:47

Wow Bower your baking cupboard is just wonderful!

We watched Shaun the Sheep: the Farmers Llamas this afternoon. The scene in the cake tent at the country show cracks me up every time Grin

merryhouse · 25/07/2020 20:57

ugh zoo the only thing to do with sealant is dig it out and replace.

Not done much today.

Made soup and flatbreads
made cake and used up some of the pineapple syrup
washed up twice
remade bed with a sheet that doesn't have a split in it
put a few stitches in sweatshirt cuff (didn't go back to it after lunch because it was depressing me. want to keep the sweatshirt from 1988 but soon the cuff will be more mend than weave...)

S1 made biscuits, S2 went to the gym (said there were three people there)

We watched Cinderella tonight - I've not actually seen it before. We got the Disney channel for Mandalorian and have been working our way through all the films we haven't watched. All four Toy Storys, Maleficents, Frozens - and H has rewatched all 9 SW films. My reaction to number 6 was "I don't know whether it's because he's putting on a clipped accent to sound like Alec Guinness, but Ewan McGregor spends that entire film sounding like SUCH A KNOB I'm not surprised mardy teenage Hayden ignores him"

martakeithy · 25/07/2020 21:13

Ooo Labe remembered one of the films that we used to watch (and also read) Spiderwick Chronicles. And the one made by someone like Luc Besson was it Arthur and the Invisible s, but is mixed real life and animation, which has a name, but I can't remember what it is.

martakeithy · 25/07/2020 21:13

Lan even. Confused

martakeithy · 25/07/2020 21:14

Aaargh

martakeithy · 25/07/2020 21:18

LittlMiss The Time Bandits Flowers
Love
Fly away is such a powerful film. Doesn't the little girl's mum die in a car crash at rhe start? Sob all the way through.

martakeithy · 25/07/2020 21:29

Zoo Mrs Doubtfire! Robin Williams was so good in that. Its lovely to be reminded of these films, I want to watch them all again
Another couple of classics, which are in a similar vein are Flight of the Navigator (River PhoenixSad ) and Zathura.
I also love Tooth Fairy with the Rock, always makes me laugh.
