May our houses be uncluttered ...the Fledgling Fly thread.

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Thanks SC and you Stressy for last month.

Bowerbird5 · 01/05/2019 06:50

Morning
Thank you for the new thread and to Toostressy for the last one. Need to catch up on the news.

Shadycorner · 01/05/2019 07:48

Good morning all! Thank you for all the thanks Flowers

So sorry I am late with the first link! Blush It's a public holiday here today so we were out late until the early hours dancing around a maypole at a friend's gathering where rather too much Wine was imbibed and I have been washing my face in dew searching for a paracetemol this morning!

*

So lovely fledglings, pinch punch first of the month, we are back at day one again! (And hasn't it come around quickly or what?)

Forgot to say in the introduction that the habit for May is Moving!

We are in Zone One, the entrance, porch, and dining room

And here is how to shine your sink which is baby-step one. See the link in the op to all the other baby-steps!

And see the launch pad for today's flight plan, reminders, zone missions and detailed cleaning lists!

And yes in future there will probably be just one link to the launch pad but I thought I would start off with more links at the beginning in case we have any newcomers joining us!--

Have a productive month everyone! Good luck! Brew Cake

Morning all!

I’m pleased the habit is moving in May, I can feel smug as I finally have that one covered :o I’ve been keeping a record of my gym/pool use and it’s very motivating.

I think I’m going to try and keep up the habit of trying to do something houseworky before I go out as I’m usually too tired after. Maybe that’ll change as I get fitter but I have to work around my limitations :o

DS is tired and grumpy this morning.

Lisette1940 · 01/05/2019 09:28

Am going for a walk this morning as part of the moving bit. Have been invited to a wedding in August so need to spruce up a bit.

Will Hoover zone 5 when I get back.

Shadycorner · 01/05/2019 09:35

I'm with you on the moving in May Cag! And going to try and reduce calories too! How many times have I said that eh ?

A bit surreal this morning. Took my sore head to the kitchen to grab another cuppa and DH (who has manfully taken DD to maths tutoring before off somewhere else) had left the TV on low for the furries in the sitting room where they are sprawled comfortably on their favourite blankets on the sofa. Upon investigation, the youngest had a local paper open in front of her, which she appeared to be reading. The oldest was watching a news item - about a working rescue dog of all things - on the telly. They both looked up at me as if I was disturbing their morning! Grin Grin

Ta da:
dog walk (by DH)
emptied DW
wm X 2 on
s & s

To do:
life admin
continue laundry
bed linen calendaring
finish boudoir
find laptop
make butternut squash and veg soup
MOVING IN MAY
loads more in boudoir/home office

May be visiting wreck2 later so apologies if I'm not back on here tonight but will return with link tomorrow morning!

Have a lovely May day everyone!

X post - enjoy your walk Lisette and good luck to anyone else stepping up the movement in May!

:o That must have been quite a picture sc! 🐶📰🐶📺

DS is still in his jammies so not going to art club. That’s fine by me though as it’s DD who needs the award help (deadline looming and I’ve been useless at helping her work towards it) and it’s PAYG so saves a fiver. He’s got to do other work at home though of course.

I’m probably not going out today as I have aqua fit this evening. Trying a different class, it’s deep aqua so in a deeper pool with float belts Confused I float very easily but I’m still nervous! But good to try something new.

ChicCroissant · 01/05/2019 13:38

Thanks for the fabulous thread last month Stressy, much appreciated Star

Just booking my place on the May thread. Out this morning, done one load of laundry but only a small one as there is a lot of rain outside so limited drying room today.

Got a school meeting tonight, need to do some shopping later on and find a way to eat tea when everything is over teatime Hmm

Have an hour before I need to leave again so will crack on and catch up later.

foxessocks · 01/05/2019 13:52

Hi everyone! I was just wondering where everyone was when I realised it's a new month! Whoops!

Thanks for the last thread toostressy and for the new one sc and that's so funny I can picture that 🐾

My anti procrastination was to go to the shops and buy some things that have been on my list for a when but never get round to, socks, a few presents for dd upcoming parties and some storage boxes for our new bookshelf. Ds is sleeping now. On the way home he said he had done a wee in his nappy so can he have his chocolate now? Had to explain again that wees have to be in the potty to get chocolate!! I think I need to put a bit more effort into the potty training tbh...

Ta da
School run
Daily routine and s&s bathroom
Shops
Made chocolate rice Krispie cakes to take to friend's house later
Sent work invoice

All my to do's will have to wait until ds wakes up because they all involve too much noise!

foxessocks · 01/05/2019 14:01

Oh and moving in may? I would like to do sitting down more in may tbh.
This is not a stealth boast (I promise! It's so hard to say this in RL because everyone just says I'm lucky) but I need to find the right balance because my BMI is in underweight now and I don't really like the way it looks Sad I've got plenty of energy but I have always been pale and my face has lost weight so I think I look a bit unhealthy tbh.

Cagliostro · 01/05/2019 14:17

remembering once again how very autistic my kids are while trying to get them to write something from another person’s POV :o DD interestingly is finding it far harder than DS.

Shannaratiger · 01/05/2019 16:43

Afternoon all

I'm lurking. My Ta Da's are the very basic at the moment.
Washed up
Clothes washed and dried
Tided living room, not hoovered as my energy has run out.

To Do
Cook tea
Put clothes away
Put all the bags of medicines away ( have been sitting on side for 2 weeks!)

I'm also going to try and excercise more and constantly trying to reduce calorie intake and stop comfort eating when stressed.

Will try and post tomorrow.

Cagliostro · 01/05/2019 17:26

Hey shannara nice to see you! I just realised is your name based on a book series? DH likes them. BTW I can tooootally empathise with the stuff sitting on the counter. Everything does that here!

I’ve been lazy physically today (the effects of the gym I think! But it’s achy not agony so I call that a win). But have been organised from the sofa. Already wrote DD’s French sentences for tomorrow (I wrote some for her to translate into English this morning and it went well - just basic stuff like le chien est noir etc). And I’ve made a Macbeth worksheet and set them some more work for the aforementioned POV writing task (Macbeth writing to Lady M).

Also phoned up to make an appt, we are meant to get an “early help plan” basically a giant hoop we need to jump through in order to get DS accepted by CAMHS Hmm. DH has emailed PALS too because of his referral being messed up again.

MogTheSleepyCat · 01/05/2019 17:47

Thanks for last month Stressy and you too SC for taking on May.

TaDa
Fed cats and DS
School run
Work - busy, but in a good way
School run
Pick up dry cleaning
Made beds
Unload and reload dishwasher
Washed up pots and baking trays
Sorted recycling
Washing machine on

ToDo
Make DS lunch for tomorrow
Put out recycling
Bath, reading and bed for DS
Make dinner
Cat litter boxes

Shannaratiger · 01/05/2019 18:02

Cag yes was my favorite series at the time. Keep thinking about updating it but have got too used to it. It's always such a battle getting help just leaves you feeling so drained.
Mog impressed with your organizing for tomorrow. I'm such a morning person brain completely shuts down by 6pm!
Socks everyone has different areas they need to work on. I hate the modern body shaming. Maybe you need to set a timer to sit down. I do this sometimes so I rest without feeling guilty which stops me burning out.

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/05/2019 18:30

Hi everyone and hi to shannara.

foxes, I completely understand. I need to eat loads to stay a healthy weight or before I know it I am underweight. Nobody believed me and kept saying I was lucky too. It wasn’t until I joined a gym, tracked calories and saw a PT that I (and others) realised I need to eat at least 2300 calories a day, maybe more, just so I don’t lose weight. To gain weight I need to eat far more. I am one of those figety restless people who never stays sitting down for long even if I try so I burn it all off. I need to think consciously about eating all the time to ensure I eat enough and even then it’s a battle. Left to my own devices I could happily skip lunch etc but hardly ever do that anymore. Have clawed my way up to a healthy weight but it is very difficult to stay there. I’ve been trying to put on weight but it is very, very slow progress.

Apologies to anyone that upsets but I really do get it. It’s so frustrating.

You are right of course shannara, we all have our things to work on.

Apologies for the rant! As you were...

Cagliostro · 01/05/2019 19:27

Just catching up, foxes not a stealth boast at all, I know (NOT from personal experience I am very much the other end of the scale Blush) that it can be really difficult to be underweight Thanks.

Well my aqua fit plans didn’t work out as there have been two accidents locally (no fatalities thankfully) and traffic is horrific so by the time the others get back to watch the baby it’ll be too late for me to get there. Bit annoying but I feel less guilty about also going tomorrow (gentle yoga class) :o I shall get on the exercise bike instead.

foxessocks · 01/05/2019 19:52

Thanks cag, shannara Smile
Toostressy I'm glad it isn't just me! That all sounds familiar. I never miss meals but dh has pointed out to me recently that my breakfast and lunches are no bigger than the dc portions. So I've made little changes. I always have a big dinner and I do tend to have a snack in the evening. That's so interesting about the amount of calories you need, I've never had a personal trainer and I've never counted calories so I really have no idea at all how much I should be eating! I'm doing couch to 5k but I'm not doing 3 runs a week because I don't have the time, more like one a week. I've nearly finished it. Then I do a strength workout or yoga type workout maybe one or two a week. I usually walk 10,000 - 15,000 steps a day. But in terms of calories I just don't know what any of that means!

Sorry for the thread derail!

Cagliostro · 01/05/2019 23:05

I antiprocrastinated and finally sent out bills for trampolining (I got lumbered with the organising but I got all rabbit in headlights this time as hall hire costs increased and a couple of bouncers dropped out last minute)

I didn’t go on the bike though dammit.

Cagletini is getting closer to really talking! She opened my bus pass and said “mama” and she’s trying to say night night :) other than that she mostly communicates in animal sounds.

Need to finish zone 5 - zone 1 needs hoovering and must wipe down the light switches. 10 year old kids are grubby, chocolate/mud on walls and switches.

Progressing to planks as well as press-ups. Weak core as well as weak wrists but left wrist holding up.

Mount Washmore ironing pile .
Work issue seems to be working out but will not know for sure until 2 weeks. Temporary abatement.
