Are you a hoarder? Are you in a mess, untidy, disorganised? A bit lazy with housework? Are you are ill and not coping with the housework? Are you totally overwhelmed? Are you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason and can't let them go? Are you unable to just ask someone in for a cuppa at a moments notice or do dread the meter reader asking for access?
Do you find yourself nodding whilst reading any of this? If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please come and join us. There is no judging. We have something in common here and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small. We cheer one another along and drag the drowners from the depths of despair.

@Cagliostro

About to drop! But this is number 3 and so there is a whole load of crap to get rid of to make room. Plus I'm living somewhere smaller 😬 wish my house (And budget) had grown with my family.

I seem to be a one woman clutter mission today. But my mood is a bit better and will get stuck in tomorrow.

DownUdderer · 13/04/2019 06:57

hi Hidingtonothing, I know how you feel! A big definite deadline is just the best (sometimes) and you can focus your energy and get stuff done, and you promise yourself you will stay on top of everything! And I totally do the 'sort that later' thing.

Our car is making a funny noise and I need to get it sorted out on monday, I hate phoning the mechanic! (but I will).

Solo · 13/04/2019 21:16

Hello, welcome Hiding Thanks :)

Down my car sounds like it's singing! I'm hoping my son is going to have a look at it this week. I'm off for a week. Had a lazy day, today but, I'm hoping to get going tomorrow.

Can I join? I did really well with declutter which took 6+ months, followed by TOMM. Now I've had busy months and slipped back to practically no housework (aside from washing up, laundry and the odd hoovering).. plus crap is piling up again. I'm the ONLY person who tidies so there is all their stuff, plus I've found an add-on hobby to my stationary hoard and started buying/bringing things into the house for it, everything mounts up, argh!

user1471449040 · 13/04/2019 21:39

On the plus side, today I put two things in a bag ready for charity shop tomorrow....shoes that hurt my feet and a cd.....

Solo · 14/04/2019 01:19

Hey, user come on in. Welcome Thanks. Get started.:)

snazzypants19 · 16/04/2019 18:56

Oh god, I’m all those things and worse! I realised last year, that I very likely have adult ADHD-I which does go a long way to explaining why I’m like this! Not helpful though in that, I can see what I need to do, but procrastinate and never have the energy to do it all!
My life feels like a mess, financially, work wise, and my house is a cluttered tip! I feel in absolute despair about it all and don’t know where to start!
Anyway, I’ve found some similar people, so hopefully we can help each other x

RubySlippers77 · 16/04/2019 23:38

Placemarking please for when preschool finally, finally starts again and I have time to get the house clean again. Tidying up with twin toddlers is like sweeping up snow in a blizzard Sad

Usually the house is in a reasonable state but for that I have to be able to devote at least two mornings per week to it, plus keep on top of it at evenings/ weekends. I'm currently so knackered that I really couldn't care less and everything is as grubby as can be.

I have NO idea how I will cope with the summer holidays!!

Solo · 17/04/2019 00:59

Welcome snazzypants and Ruby :) Thanks.
I've already had 4 days of doing nothing. I'm very disappointed in myself.

Please can I join in! Smile
Having a major meltdown over my house today, spent half an hour sobbing on my kitchen floor early this morning, family coming this weekend and I want it to look nice, and it just all seems overwhelming.

Did about an hour's tidying (which took three hours due to procrastination and another meltdown because I've got too many towels FFS, step away from the crazy lady Blush.
And now I've just got back in bed (in the tiny space not covered with laundry and bills and books).
I conquered my hoarding about 4 years ago, what on earth went wrong! Angry

Solo · 17/04/2019 17:57

Hi cherry and welcome Thanks
Good that you stopped hoarding but, it's easy to start again. I sort of stopped a while back too. Stopped charity shop buys unless it's a specific item I'm actually looking for. But...the other day, I opened up an old suitcase at my mums and it had loads of my school and teen stuff which, I confess to bringing home with me. I do need to sort and rid myself of a lot of it but, my whole house is like that...

How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
cherrytree63 · 17/04/2019 18:41

Dragged myself out of bed to scrub the bathroom.
Just finished and the mirror fell off the wall and smashed . Glass everywhere.

I'd like to think I've had my 7 years bad luck in advance Grin
On the bright side OH has loaded the 30 plus bags of charity shop stuff that have been in my hall for 6 months into his truck ready for delivering tomorrow. I've come to terms with not ebaying it all and making a fortune (I'd only buy more stuff if I did that though Grin)

Solo · 17/04/2019 20:45

Oh, cherry well done! And sorry about the mirror :( but, keep that thought! You've already had your bad luck in advance of the breakage.

cherrytree63 · 20/04/2019 09:16

How's everyone doing?
I'm quite pleased with myself, all "public" areas are clean and tidyish, I've got a few boxes of stuff to go to the charity shop stacked in the dining room and a box of paperwork to sort in the front room.
Other than that, there's some piles of stuff in my bedroom that need sorting.
My downstairs hallway is very empty and echoey but there's still a faint whiff coming from the boots and shoes which live there, currently don't have any other storage for them.
So OH is grumbling about the incense I'm burning but he shouldn't have such cheesy feet Grin !

KittyB52 · 20/04/2019 14:55

Hello! I don't know whether I have joined one of these threads previously (fibro fog + menopause = no clue!) but I am in desperate need of decluttering and tidying and am a bit overwhelmed. Part of my problem is I have lots of things like craft supplies which I want to sell (as we could use the money) but then they sit on Ebay and do nowt).

So I would like advice on how to get your head around getting rid of things v keeping them because they might make you a tiny bit of cash.

We are going to be moving house in the next few months and we have so much crap. I want to start now and get it sorted.

Thanks in advance.

cherrytree63 · 21/04/2019 09:25

Hi Kitty, fellow fibro foggy post meno amnesiac here!
I don't really have any advice for you, as I think the mental aspect is different for everyone. Have you tried facebook selling pages related to your crafting? Or do you have a free ad paper in your area?
I gutted my old house when I was putting it on the market. I sold a few bits on Facebook but I gave loads away to someone who does a lot of boot sales.
After I moved I was living in a mobile home and most of my belongings were in storage, I thought I'd only be there for a couple of months while I found a new house, but that stretched to 6 months, and I was buying new clothes and stuff rather than rummage through my stored stuff to get what I needed.
Anyway, I ended up in my new house, with surplus of everything and lived amongst boxes and bags everywhere.
Plus I was so stressed I was buying more and more to cheer myself up.
Eventually I ended up ramming my spare room full of it all, determined to sort through and sell on ebay and facebook, then family came for Christmas and everything got piled into the hallway.
And then started to spread through the house again.
And when my daughter said she was coming for Easter I swung between panic and freezing with despair.
And that's when just said to my OH please just take it to the charity shop.
I've still got a way to go, and I'm still upset over all the money tied up in those bags of clothes etc.
But yesterday we went and had a mooch round the charity shops and I DID NOT BUY ANYTHING! And that was because I actually bothered to try things on, as opposed to buying stuff and finding it didn't fit or suit me and stuffing it in a bag rather than returning it.
And I also avoided looking in the shop that my stuff went to as I knew that would upset me.
How is everyone this weekend?

DownUdderer · 21/04/2019 11:13

I don’t have any good advice about successfully selling stuff for the money. Perhaps find a craft club that meets up somewhere and ask if they ever do a sale table?

Sometimes I agree with cherrytree and it can feel easier to buy a duplicate of something than to try and find the original item! I wish I could find a home for something’s and be good at putting them back when I’m finished with them!

KittyB52 · 21/04/2019 16:27

Hi cherrytree and DownUdderer!

DH is king of buying duplicates because he never bothers to check if we already have something. Whereas I know we have something, but can't remember where it is, or don't have the energy to look.

I have put a few things on Facebook, but it's slow going. We are viewing a new rental house this week, so if a move is sooner rather than later, that should spur me on. Or I will freeze in total panic. Grin

Solo · 21/04/2019 23:46

Hello! Goodness! I also have ME and am in/post menopause! I can see a pattern here :(

I have had 9 days off so far and have done nothing except the laundry. I'm quite disappointed in myself because I had such high hopes of getting things done.
I have no advice regarding selling stuff because I'm really bad at it. I will though, hold your hand. Thanks

RubySlippers77 · 21/04/2019 23:59

Have you tried being quite descriptive in your Facebook selling Kitty? For example - most people search via keywords - so the more descriptive words you put in there, the more hits you should get (theoretically!). I buy quite a lot from there as my DC like drawing/ painting/ crafts, but they are only small, it's not worth spending £££ on things. I got some bargain Peppa Pig baking stuff Grin

All my small duplicates go in big plastic boxes and in separate zip lock bags within the boxes, means I can check quickly if I have any more hand cream/ shampoo/ toothpaste etc. Bigger stuff (cleaning products etc) goes under the sink. Doesn't mean I don't hoard though Blush think it comes back to my mum being incredibly disorganised and us frequently running out of stuff when I was little.

Hoping that DP will take the DC to PIL tomorrow and I can start the post holiday house clean up, it looks like a bomb's hit it. Back to square one, how depressing!

PrincessDanae · 23/04/2019 22:03

Could I please wander in and out of this thread? My house is in complete chaos, and I have to get the house ready to sell. Eek!

So, first rooms to attack are the master bedroom and the bathrooms. I've cleared lots of the clothes from the floordrobe in the bedroom so far, but I now need to get rid of all the things that have been dumped in there that have no other home. So much of it just needs to be thrown away I think.

PrincessDanae · 23/04/2019 22:56

One of my biggest problems is procrastination, and going to bed at a reasonable time is part of that, I keep putting it off when I'm not busy, and other times I delay starting my work and then end up working into the night to get it done. So tonight I am work free so am going to bite the bullet, and get my backside into bed at a reasonable time. Tomorrow is the start of getting organised, and I need to be fully rested.

BackforGood · 23/04/2019 23:16

How has this managed to get to thread number 4 before I've found my people ?
We'd like to move house but are soooooooooooo far away from any place where I could have Estate Agents round.

KittyB52 · 24/04/2019 16:06

Hi everyone.

Pram has sold on Facebook, and some of DH’s camera gear has sold on EBay. I am trying a few craft stash bits on EBay, but mostly bigger stuff that is in the way. If they don’t sell, they are going to the charity shop this weekend.

Going to view a (rental) house shortly. Trying not to get my hopes up that we will get it but if we do, that should give the decluttering a kick start.

How is everyone doing?
