OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Shame Foxes! Smile but sometimes only a cuppa will do!

You and DH probably needed the down time CAG so don't feel bad.

Just helped the girls with a lot of bed changing/rearranging and we're all off to bed finally! (Well I am anyway! Smile). G'night all!

Cagliostro · 20/10/2018 00:18

Night sc :)

Ugh dreading the next few days. Would’ve at least had some company from mum staying over on Sunday but understandably she is wary of visiting if baby is contagious.

Baby’s been asleep for ages. I have not. Why do I do this to myself 😖 she’s in the middle of the sofa so looks like I’m on the floor for now. She just wakes up and screams every time she is even slightly moved since getting this bug, so it’s not worth trying!

I’m feeling quite crap about the lacklustre end to the half term. And hoping we actually get some stuff done before it all starts up again. At least we have done most of the cupboard, definitely need to finish that next week. And I don’t have to worry about doing work with the Caglets, although we have agreed that they will now do a few bits (iPad learning apps and possibly other bits) on holidays and weekends too.

Aaaaargh why am I so stressed 😳😡 right going to try and sleep now

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 05:49

cag you are understandably stressed sleeping on floor/sofa with a baby!Flowershow's D's now?plan for next four days- all fed no one dead...you just have to vent on us and let stuff happen.if you need more structure keep it super simple(is chores an hour total over am,TV time after lunch) another case wish we were closer as mine have had that so I'd be round in a flash to help.xxx

Bowerbird5 · 20/10/2018 08:02

Morning,
Oh dear, sounds like some people are having an awful time of it with the sickies. I hope they improve soon and you get some sleep.

I still feel dozy.i was exhausted yesterday from my week back at work. It drains you of energy being constantly on the go and the requests. The hugs make it worthwhile though. I had hugs all week from children pleased to see me back which was lovely.

Not much flying done but I have done the bathroom bar the floor which I plan to do today.

Plan when I get up.
Breakfast
Kitchen clean.
Vacuum downstairs.
Then bedroom tidy.
Washing x2 loads.
Start packing up the kitchen!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 08:26

Morning!!
Everyone's fed here, incl furriest and time for lil zoo to undertake her consequences of potiongate.plan is help me deep clean bathroom.shes hoovering hall stairs and landing(we have a very light small hoover) and tidy hallway.then we tackle the girls room

foxessocks · 20/10/2018 08:56

Good luck zoo!
Bower that's so sweet I always hope dd gets some hugs from staff at school because she always did at nursery but I'm aware it's a bit different at school!

Ta da
Ordered mooncup!
Dishwasher emptied / reloaded
Washing on

Trying to keep moving this morning! Very tired again, got a cold and didn't sleep well then dd was up at 5 because she wet the bed zzzz

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 09:20

Tada
Clean bathroom!!
Did bath and tiling around it,windows and mirror
Lil zoo did bath panel, radiator, sill and sink(cried disgust pull bits tissues out plughole(her speciality habit))
She's hoovering, muttering to self now.from what can see doing grand job,so may be designated hers from here on in.i may soften and allow couple hours on tablet as doing a good job then D's on Xbox j get a break!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/10/2018 09:38

Sometimes a break is needed. Go you for enforcing the punishment why is enforcing punishments also like punishing ourselves sometimes?

ta da
laundry sorted - and ready to go
1st lot of pumpkin for the day roasted.
currently working on a craft project before getting up for the day - well it is Saturday so a slight line in counts as spirit renewing

Hope you all have good days and the poorly ones make steps on the recovery path.

foxessocks · 20/10/2018 10:16

zoo seriously considering making your Apple cake today but we've had a few too many sweet treats this week...how sweet is it? Could I reduce the amount of sugar in it or do you think it wouldn't be sweet enough?

Just put a big batch of cheese scones in the oven ready for lunch time. Hopefully this time there will be enough for dh when he gets home from work!

I have an appointment later but I don't really feel like leaving the house tbh. It's something I could easily rearrange but I do need to buy some bread and milk too. Will see how I feel later.

Ta da
Some washing folded put away
Washing hung up
Made cheese scones
Collected empty cups from upstairs

Brew time

Cagliostro · 20/10/2018 10:19

I’m too much of a wuss for a mooncup foxes good luck with it! I will be ordering some washable pads in the next few months. Kind of want to see how awful the next period is first 😷

Forgot to say DS is fine thank you it was just one night of pain. Interestingly DD has been complaining of odd pains at night but I never know with her as she is really over sensitive and also reading into every twinge because she is anxious for puberty to start 🙄

Should really arrange something for the next few days but no idea what to actually do. DD is away Sunday to Monday as well and DS will be bored! :(

foxessocks · 20/10/2018 10:25

cag thanks, I had one as a teenager and got on really well with it for a long time then is started to become uncomfortable so I gave up. Not tried again since but I'd really like to do my bit for the environment so decided to give it another go! Worth a try I thought.

Cheese scones annoyingly look a little over cooked now Hmm

foxessocks · 20/10/2018 10:26

What about swimmingcag or is that too tricky without 2 adults?! I know I struggle to take my two unless dh around but they do love it!

Cagliostro · 20/10/2018 10:34

I can’t even go swimming on my own TBH the dizziness makes it unsafe 😳 so definitely wouldn’t go with baby! We’ve only taken her twice, must prioritise it TBH 😳

Was thinking of cinema but there’s not much on ATM other than Johnny English which we will see as a family.

TBH I am just finding myself dreading going out at the mo, just because of the stage Cagletini is at. Should stay home for the moment anyway really in case she is still contagious.

Expect a lot of whinging from me over the next few days! We have at least decided that we will go to the nature centre for her birthday though. I think she will love seeing the animals. That’s if the weather is good of course! There is the Brighton aquarium but it’s a bit far as we have family over in the evening.

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 20/10/2018 10:37

Oh dear, sounds as though lots of you didn't have the best night's sleep. Brew for all.

Must admit I didn't have the best! (Never sleep well when dd has friend/s over; always keeping a small ear out!) Was up early with vestiges of headache, tidied kitchen, emptied DW, carried washing down, sorted and fed machines, tidied TV room. Gathered bagels and cream cheese with fruit for the gals. Found guest a pair of my yoga pants to wear (she hadn't planned staying over). Both girls have gone off to stationery emporium now to buy items for school project so I have the house to myself for an hour or so whoo hoo!

Question is, shall I use that time to declutter art cupboard or do something creative instead?

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 12:30

Hope you did something for yourself SC
I've learnt housework will still be there where you left it unless death threats and itinery if chores are listed
Foxes I didn't add the dried fruit nor use super sweet apples and it was ok.i tend bake a cake as instructions first time then tweak slowly after if necessary.because of it being both cake and biscuit I left well alone in case of the science bit if baking screwed up my cake(and when I want cake I don't cope well with disasters!! experience taught me sugar helps some recipes cook thru and brown properly)Grin
It's the weekend!I'm encouraging you to just eat and enjoy it!!(if you want low/no added sugar recipes I've a few for packed lunch options/more health conscious days(mon-fri consumption only!!)

Cag even just trip local park to get out of doorsso you don't get cabin fever?keep away from preggo ladies tho!it's tough having a big gap sometimes with try please every one(dd1 was just turned 9 when had dd2 then less 18minth gaps between her and D's and D's and lil zoo)Flowers
Can older ones follow easy recipe( like choc crispie cakes, or fruit and marshmallow kebabs,no baking required) and shop locally any necessary ingredients and make them for you all to share(keeps older ones busy if cagletini feeling rough n wants mum)

Well lil zoo did grand job and may now in be future hooverer as we only have carpet on stairs and my back doesn't always appreciate the task!!
As did thorough job there and bathroom cleaning assistant been allowed her tablet couple hours,D's his Xbox and I've had a bloody lovely almost 2 hours undisturbed time in bed having short snooze then reading!!
Shall get up in a mo and partbake more rolls for lunch

DS off to bugtopia creepy Crawley night laterso teatime onwards til 11 girls rule and I feel some pampering(girls have fab fingernails that could do with a slight filing and I'm sure I can share my huge polish collection plus we have stray face mask and both foot scrub and deep nourishing cream at our disposal ❤️) and a suitable girls film are in the cards tonight!!

Stressy hope things are going well with parents and you enjoy you downtime with DH.thinking of you!!Flowers

Hills thanks for reassurance.hard to know what to do for the best sometimes hope craft projects coming along nicely?

May I ask those roasting pumpkins are making?(nosey)

Right best get up before tempted nod back off again!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 12:35

My phone nearly got me a zoo classic -
I noticed had changed tweak to twerk
"I tend to bake a cake as instructed first time and twerk slowly"
Oh my giddy goat! That could've raised eyebrows/caused tea spat out over phones or keyboards.
Twas so funny I thought I'd share thatGrinGrinGrinGrin

foxessocks · 20/10/2018 12:54

zoo Grin ! That's good you've had a bit of a rest. I often reduce sugar in recipes because sometimes it just seems far too much (and I'm honestly not someone that is that worried about what the dc eat, balanced diet and all that!) That's interesting that it can sometimes effect the bake though I'll have to watch out for that. I'm going to stick to the recipe for this one anyway! In the end I made some muffins using yogurt as I had some to use up, they are pear and apple as I found an over ripe pear in the fruit bowl! But usually these things get devoured in seconds in my house so no doubt I'll be making your cake tomorrow instead Grin

Ta da
Hoovered downstairs
Made apple and pear muffins currently in the oven
Put ds down for nap (he has been so grumpy today it's unreal. He fell asleep in less than five minutes after shouting IM NOT TIRED at me Grin)
Dishwasher on

Cagliostro · 20/10/2018 13:00

Oo first attempt at baking may be a good plan.

I managed to get a few little bits done while Cagletini dozed. Working on getting the cupboard sorted. Just trying to figure out the last few drawers.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2018 13:05

Muffins also disappear at speed.i think it's lack ask mum cut a slice speeds up the process(they do ask btw before grabbing)foxesI just found a squirreled away bunch bananas that just this side of binworthy so as no eggs in I might make a vegan banana loaf and some began banana strawberry muffins(using up frozen strawberries from a given glut and they are only fit chop up in cakes/compotes.why do something's so beautiful fresh not appreciate the freezer?!)

Cag Smile

How's the tribe?

Cagliostro · 20/10/2018 14:09

Hellooooooooo

Are you off work for half term?

We are having a lazy afternoon so far. DD is packing for the sleepover. I’ve made a dictionary on the Pages app of all the Japanese words we’ve learned so far. As I keep writing them down in a notebook and the baby keeps ripping it up 🤦‍♀️

Bowerbird5 · 20/10/2018 14:26

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂
😬😬😬😭
Zoo
Now have picture of you twerking around the kitchen as you wait for
Cake to bake!

I wouldn’t have put you down as a nail polish user. Funny how we conjure up a bit of an image of people on here.
🦊
I have said the minute I am told we can’t give the children a hug then I hand in my notice. Especially little ones but I had as many hugs from the Yr 6’s actually. Even the boys give a quick hug after they check no one is looking( classmates) I think it is lovely that they feel able to as when they are sad and upset they know who to come to. Some staff don’t do it.

Well so far after a really good sleep (due to a couple of large glasses of red wine) I have
Had a cooked breakfast
Fed Hen and cat
Done dishwasher
Washed up pans
Wiped worktops
Also cooker
Brought down two loads of washing

Need to
Vacuum
Wash bathroom floor
Strip and make bed.
Cook roast pork.
