The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

I usually just hoover and then wipes on it. But this is a mop with a microfibre pad attached and you press a button and it shoots out a jet of whatever you've filled it with
My plan is to hoover and then use the mop with some diluted zoflora

mrsoutnumbered · 16/09/2018 22:28

@AdventuringThroughLife I have a vileda active max and some 'direct to floor' cleaner which I made up myself (bought the bottle from Wilko but add my own diluted solution when it runs out)

2slicesoftoast · 16/09/2018 22:34

Any future friends about?
I've just had a 10 minute dash around the house putting stuff away so that I don't waste my precious 30 minutes cleaning time tidying :-)
I have a BUSY day tomorrow. Before starting TOMM I would be dreading getting started and actively avoiding. I've put the cleaning products on the coffee table so I can make a coffee after the school run and get stuck in!

Ollivander84 · 16/09/2018 22:42

Morrisons have just delivered me some flash spray and a pledge fluffy duster HmmBlushGrin

Cherrypi · 17/09/2018 03:34

I’m starting this today. I’m not a natural cleaner. I’m definitely a person who doesn’t see the dirt so hoping this will help. Intrigued by the rhubarb method cleaner.

AdventuringThroughLife · 17/09/2018 04:59

Ive been trying all weekend to sort through the mess that is my childrens rooms. I have let it get so bad :( Ive sorted out their clothes though and rediscovered stuff they could have warn in summer.... And got rid of all sorts of half empty boxes and reordered their drawers.

But I havent finished. Do I go onto trying to sort the living room tomorrow (much smaller job but needs more than just a wipe as shelves are messy) as its Monday or do I try and finish kids bedrooms!?

Im kind of prebootcamp if bootcamp is really a big spring clean Im getting rooms ready to springclean! Already doing some level 1 jobs though and bathroom and kitchen are getting daily wipes (when before they werent... I struggle with organisation.)

AdventuringThroughLife · 17/09/2018 04:59

I wont have as long to do things today!

milkysmum · 17/09/2018 06:59

Ooh this looks great. I work full time, have two children in primary school and hsve recently kicked my useless husband out so I'm now juggling home, kids, work alone. I'm naturally untidy but hate mess so need a system to get my house in order! I'm also trying to get the children on board with helping more around the house so a simple system would help.

beela · 17/09/2018 07:58

adventuring I'm trying to stick to the right rooms on the right days, so that everything gradually gets better. But you could press on and finish one room if you're on a roll... I don't think it matters as long as you keep at it.

Littlechocola · 17/09/2018 08:27

Adventuring I need to finish my room but I am moving on to the living room today and will do more bedroom later when I get a chance.

I need everything perfect before the weekend! I have guests coming (and I’m getting married Grin). It’s helping my anxiety!

hodgeheg92 · 17/09/2018 09:30

Hello to the new people! I haven't been on here over the weekend.

Facebook group - I like the problems and solutions aspect. Not a fan of the stealth boasts but then I don't mind that for some people a quick click of the like button makes them happier. But then on the other hand, it's easy to compare your house to theirs and feel down. My daughter's nursery is tiny and pictures of other's nurseries make me feel like we're not doing enough for her cos her room is so small. Then I have a reality check and realise that I didn't ever have a nursery or my own room and it hasn't affected me. Or my husband catches me being glum and calls me an idiot Grin

Zoflora - I don't get it either! I've been using a bottle of tropical twist but I don't think I like it. Going to give linen or lavender a try.

Spraying and mopping - we already had the same mop as Gemma and we mix some of our normal floor cleaner (think it's flash) with some water in an old spray bottle. Does the job, not sticky and costs very little. I am very tempted by the method almond scented floor cleaner but we don't need it.

I did a washing load overnight for this morning but I was not my future friend in the kitchen and have the chicken pot from yesterday to wash out before doing the living/dining room, sigh.

GrimSqueaker · 17/09/2018 09:32

I bootcamped-ish (the kids' room had clothing weeded through but I left toys as they'd been done recently) for a fortnight or so before I got things onto a rolling system. Gone to pot last few weeks as we've had builders in and my mental health hasn't been great but I'm meant to be back on the wagon today just doing our living room (and I'm not washing sofa throws as it's raining - I don't go in for the arbitrary new sheet day stuff as the weather gets in the way of drying it so it gets done over the course of the week).

Generally I've fallen into doing Monday - lounge, Tuesday - bedrooms and change one set of bedding and hall/stairs (we have none really to speak of), Wednesday other bedroom, bathroom, and Thursday kitchen and Fuck it all off Friday.

Kitchen quite often gets a second going over along with the lounge as it's all open plan. Conservatory gets ignored largely as there's that many elaborate playmobil setups arranged in there I just leave 'em to it.

GrimSqueaker · 17/09/2018 09:33

I don't use zoflora either - I do put a tiny drop of mistral disinfectant in the steam mop but that's because I have it to neutralise dog pee smells in an animal safe way... actually hate the smell of it but it keeps the mop heads from getting stinky which they do even when they get washed.

My cousin is now selling zoflora scented wax melts - it's bloody bonkers.

Cherrypi · 17/09/2018 10:06

RIght day one. Wash put on before school run. Dishwasher unloaded and loaded. Mopped kitchen floor, vacuumed under sofas and corners. Mopped hall floor and sorted out shoes and coats. Just need to do a bit of the bathroom. Not sure I should mop the floors too much as they’re cheap woody ones so may spray and rub them over with something. Bit hot and sweaty now.

GrimSqueaker · 17/09/2018 10:26

I've done about 90% of the lounge, plus the kitchen floor is annoying me so I'll mop that as well (the two tend to merge into each other with being open plan).

I know they're not the most eco-friendly option - but I keep a pack of cleaning wipes in the bathroom and tend to just grab one and do a few surfaces, finishing with the loo and into the bin when I go upstairs to stay on top of the bathroom. Try to alternate between wiping the bath, shower area or around the sink surfaces each time I do it. (I refuse to worry about smears on the shower screen as long as they're clean smears)

cows573 · 17/09/2018 10:37

I just started boot camp on Friday... Really am finding this thread helpful for motivation!!! Starting to deep clean my kitchen today, so I need all the help I can get!!!

Shiteatusernames · 17/09/2018 10:57

I'm in too, have caught up with the thread.

Youngest Dd is now at school, goes all day next week, this looks like something I could keep on top of.

I have done my living room, haven't put a wash on as it looks grey and about to rain, saving up for a new tumble dryer so will hopefully have that in the next couple of weeks.

Level 1 all done apart from quick wipe of bathroom.

Have told my Dh I want a steam mop for Christmas Grin

GrimSqueaker · 17/09/2018 11:39

It's all kicking off over on AIBU about Mrs Hinch (she behind the "stop mixing a million cleaning chemicals with bloody zoflora" warnings from TOMM the other week). Someone said something mean about that tribe's deity and now they've all arrived in their hordes brandishing zoflora bottles.

beela · 17/09/2018 12:35

Amazing! I've missed all of that because I've just spent 3 hours bootcamping our open plan kitchen / dining room / playroom. I think I need to go and lie down now.

Bobbiepin · 17/09/2018 12:56

@Grimsqueaker I went over to have a look and a look at Mrs Hinch's Instagram page and it makes me fret just looking at it. Everything is cleaned every day (like I don't have enough to do managing a baby and working). The amount of products she has is astonishing. Aside from the safety/flammable issues I just don't have the space to store all that! Thank God for Team TOMM!

Littlechocola · 17/09/2018 13:34

Dp has decided to go to the tip so I’ve filled 4 black bags from the kitchen. I’m going to have a quick break and clean the cupboards before I put everything back in.
Front room looks good.

hodgeheg92 · 17/09/2018 14:09

@littlechocola How do I convince my OH to do that?! It only gets as far as the garage.

I've not managed much yet today, we're weaning at the minute so I have mopped the dining room floor twice already though Hmm

Littlechocola · 17/09/2018 15:28

hodgeheg92 he gets to drive his beloved camper van to the tip Grin

I remember weaning and the food everywhere! If it’s any help mine stopped throwing food (but are now stinky teens) Grin

Kitchen Bootcamp is going amazingly well. Even dp and ds2 have joined in. Ds1 just grunts and dd is working.

welshmist · 17/09/2018 16:25

Took two days to do bedroom last week, filled two big bags for womens refuge, one bin bag for tip, we only moved two years ago !! Today I started on kitchen, under sink double cupboard emptied, cleaned and sorted. All base unit doors and skirtings cleaned, ditto back door, worked clockwise. Tomorrow wall cupboards and will start emptying cupboards cleaning and sorting, checking dates on packaging. So fingers crossed should be finished tomoz. I did hoover, bedroom and hall, clean sink, loo, will leave sittingroom till Wednesday.

welshmist · 17/09/2018 16:27

Re: weaning stick high chair on an old sheet, shake out for birds and when skanky throw in washing machine, or borrow a labrador who will catch it on the way down Grin your floor will thank you
