Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Gosh souch has happened since I posted!!

I love a sharp blackcurrant jam in a Vic spongeSC
No need to apologise about trying teens,we are all having "moments" regardless of their age in this heat/holidays/day to day basis regardlessFlowers

Bower I can't imagine trying to wrestle a hen into a hi Vis jacket, made me smile tho!!

Hills poor D's.glad there's an easy delicious breakfast today as you're struggling

Honky oh my lord.that would've given me a breakdown glad he's okFlowers

Foxes glad you are feeling better.can I come sit in a paddling pool in the shade?!

Cag if improving maybe was to do with damp house.we found dairy was lil zoo nemesis by just taking it out.improvement was within days, back in flare up within 48hrs(eczema and issues with bowel plus skin around bum peeled and was weeping/get infected)we were told by gp it's often foods they crave most that the problem as body's histimines kick in and they get a kind of high that becomes a cycle of wanting more...we've found over 4years she can tolerate small amounts lactofree cheese, but not anything else dairy related if you've ever eaten vegan cheese you will know why she cried with joy

I've have another Brew one more week and you've made the half way mark.....have Cake and 🍫 too

Zoolets enjoyed their ride, just hot in
More wash on
I need a rest now.
Sun's starting get hot hot hot so we timed out trip out perfectly as was a cool breeze when we left home!

Cineraria · 04/08/2018 12:05

Phew, this thread moves so fast! How are you all getting so much done as well as posting? Especially, zoo's completed list so early in the morning, when I was still grumbling at DS2 that it was one of his night feeds he was having so he should be going back to sleep and letting us have a lie in. He wasn't convinced. Sympathy to others with non sleeping babies too.

Bowerbird sorry to hear your medication is making you sleepy and affecting your sense of taste. It's annoying that something to make you well can make you feel worse in some ways. At least your blackcurrant pancakes were tasty. We got a few jars of jam from our lone bush and it is so nice! I have only tried it on cake, so far and I'm right behind zoo in finding it great like that but might try it on pancakes now (it is too special for toast!). We're also doing loft stuff during the DSes nap this afternoon, mostly bulky baby stuff that we aren't ready to sell yet, like the carry cot off the travel system and the co-sleeper, plus DS1's cast off clothes for DS2.

Scoopofchaff I'm so shocked to hear about your holiday. I can't believe that with computerised systems etc they can let this happen and how do they decide who to let go? Hope all goes well and bikini arrives in time.

Honkywonkwoman your story is so scary. Poor boy. I hope you all slept ok after that. I want mine to stay babies forever when I hear things like that.

I don't tend to do chores at the weekend other than meals, dishwasher and bib/nappy wash. Then we might do more projecty stuff like the baby stuff archiving. I can't remember what fly lady's stance on weekends is though. I don't remember having zone stuff to do then, just the sink shining and bathroom swiping.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/08/2018 12:10

Getting stuff done? Dude it is Saturday - family fun day.

In this house that means sleeping til lunch. I am in pjs and only just getting up Grin

Other people's mileage differ but Saturday and SUnday are not high flying days in the flylady system. FOr this she is to be respected and ignored if necessary

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 12:39

Cineraria this thread is usually very fast moving but it has to be said this morning has been exceptionally busy! I think we are all a bit de-mob happy as its the school holidays! Also, Aug thread = no links = more chat!

As Hills says, Flylady approach to weekends = no missions. Sat is supposedly family fun day and Sun is for renewing your spirit (doing something for you) which makes you feel rejuvenated. Tbh this approach is difficult if you are working during the week: lots of Flylady followers do home blessing (what we call home bleugh) and missions at weekend while appreciating the general philosophy of getting as much done during wk to free up weekends for other activities ifyswim. Again, best to adapt system to suit yourself

Btw, it's Toostressy who had holiday issue. I would scare people in a bikini.

As for your very pertinent question "how are you all getting so much done as well as posting?" ...

...[SC whistles nonchalantly and sidles off in general direction of duster and cleaning products ...]

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 12:41

Oops Hills meant to say earlier - before shutting down tablet - hope your day has better sleep tonight!

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 12:42

Gah - ds not day!

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 12:47

Scoop who needs a bikini! It's all about naked sun bathing! Wink

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/08/2018 15:08

Hurrah foxes glad to hear you have your feet up for once!!

Cineraria I buzz around like angry wasp at silly o'clock on hot days(think 5am) by time I sort breakfast(7-730 in hols) I've cracked thru loads with cats sleepy from feeding and zoolets sleeping I get on in peace(exception is lil zoo who at 10 is only just discovering the joys of lay in bed til around 6-630,having been a 5am riser since forever which is why I am up and running at ridiculous o'clock as my body clock has built in to get up very very early just don't ask me to be coherent after 6pm )
Everyone fed n watered
Wash up wipe dining table
Wash on airer
Soaked whites rinse cycle before hot wash
Dd2 almost crispy dark socks are having a brief soak in remaining napisan left in bucket as I love my machine and the stink they currently emitting would only be described as abuse if threw them straight inGrin

To to
Dinner later-roasted fennel, peppers, red onions, courgettes, mushrooms, asparagus with cheese and naice bread(lil zoo and D's having gf pasta with almond and spinach pesto and some roasted pepper strips.strawberry jelly is setting as I type with fresh strawberries to go with it and dollop koyo plain yogurt

My most important task of the day is decluttering a rather fat Belgium bn before anyone else finds and eats it and will subsequently spend eternity grovelling apologies whilst I weep indefinitely

Givemeallyourcucumber · 04/08/2018 15:15

Deliver cards to friends!

Cineraria · 04/08/2018 16:18

Thanks Hills and SC. That rings a bell. I was working but single with no DC last time I followed Fly lady's system, so could easily fit everything in during the week. Now I'm officially a SAHM as of early July, although since September 15, I only actually went to work Oct 16 to June 17 due to maternity leave/annual leave, so the only real change has been to the headline on my LinkedIn profile! Anyway, weekdays are still best for me for any kind of housework.

We do kind of have a family day and a self care day albeit on the wrong days as DH and I both get a long bath on Saturdays while the other has time with the boys and on Sunday we usually all go swimming together and some Saturday evenings we do a family film, whilst others are a film for just me and DH. It's good to make time for those things.

Apologies to SC and Toostressy for muddling you up. I'll get to know everyone soon hopefully.

Happy Birthday cucumber! Hope you have some fun stuff planned as well as that big list of tasks.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/08/2018 17:00

cineraria I've been here ages and I still mix up who I ment personals for.we all do it,no biggieWink esp in batshit crazy months when inundated newbies like sept (back to school/fix our lives)and january(new year/new home)

foxessocks · 04/08/2018 17:20

4 boxes of paperwork sorted!! And I'm 4 boxes down to 3 now! Not being quite as ruthless as I probably could be but paperwork scares me a little Blush

Also ta da
Potatoes in oven to go with beef and veg in slow cooker. Another fab summer meal Grin I've clearly messed up my meal plan this week!!

I'm off to the cinema later and apparently the air con has broken so that's going to be fun. I bought chocolate to take would I be crazy to pack in a cool bag with ice packs for everyone too Grin

Cagliostro · 04/08/2018 18:41

Wow that's brilliant!

We have been back a while, it is awesome being on this other bus route so we could get there and back so easily. Got a few bits we needed and had a lovely time but tired now!

CassandraLamontaigne · 04/08/2018 20:50

Ta da
House hoovered (mainly by me, DH did some
Laundry away
Tried cilit bang on gruesome shower. Didn't work
Cleaned windowsills
Cleaned mirror in 2 bathrooms
Dh changed toilet seat on spare room. Previous one sent guests shooting sideways. Not relaxing for them Shock

That's it....

To do tomorrow
Clean all toilets
Try shower again (leaving cilit overnight in one corner contrary to instructions on bottle Blush)
Clean all sinks
Wash kitchen floor
Clean window in spare room inside and out - DM coming to stay and it has bird poo on it. How?? Do they squirt it?

CassandraLamontaigne · 04/08/2018 20:53

Cucumber happy birthday Cake
zoo 5am??!! Confused that's when I wake up and go to the loo in the middle of the night!

Where are you all that's so hot? (don't answer if you don't want to!)
foxes cool box is a great idea but where I go to the cinema they wouldn't let you bring them in!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/08/2018 20:55

I mix people up sometimes too Cineraria, don’t worry about it! This thread does indeed move fast. I tend to have a little break from following it super closely the month after thread leading but will be popping on most days I think.

Thanks to all for sympathy re holiday. Apparently the ‘compensation’ is that you can get an alternative or a full refund but nothing ‘extra’ iyswim. Thankfully last few bits sorted for the rebooking now so just the small matter of packing while looking after 2 DCs to do. Had wanted to get started on a packing list tonight but it is nearly 9pm and I still have loads of laundry to put away so not sure that will happen. Plus need to look at these hideous bikinis online. Believe me, I also look awful in them (horrible legs are my issue so I hate most summer clothes).

On the plus side DH did home bleugh and I have half a glass of leftover wine to drink Wine.

Big wing flaps to all.

Happy birthday cucumber WineCakeBrewFlowersBear

Cassandra, unwilling to say exactly where I am, it has cooled down slightly this weekend but predicted to rise again tomorrow. Will be very, very hot again next week and week after. I can’t bear it, I hate summer Angry.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 04/08/2018 22:13

A replacement isn't fucking compensation! What an insult. Sorry I'm mad on your behalf!

I'm knackered just keeping up vaguely with family life today and we have a lot of cleaning to do in the morning! I took ages cooking a simple dinner and then vaguely cleaning up and had to bathe the baby. A couple of friends may pop in tomorrow so that's exciting. We also had family fun day by playing the new board game I got. Happy that DD willingly tried it as she struggles a lot with games.

foxessocks · 04/08/2018 22:35

Cassandra it was a mini cool box so I popped it in my hand bag - worked a treat! Had my chocolate and two ice packs Grin I'm sure they'd rather I did that than complain and ask for a refund because of the heat!

By the way if anyone likes this kind of thing the mamma Mia film is FAB!

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 22:54

Yes, forgot to wish you a happy birthday Cucumber hope you had/are having a good 'un! (PS my naked sunbathing days are long gone sadly; don't want to scare the natives!!)

Toostressy I'm fairly certain that if you have booked a specific hotel rather than a destination ie 4 star say on Costa del Sol, and they are not able to deliver that, then an equivalent hotel should be part of the compensation but not all that you are entitled to, especially with so little advance notice. Worth checking out with consumers assoc or some such.

Cassandra Great list! I am in continental Europe (land of beer, choc and mussels). Sympathies; I have to clean the windows here and believe me the birds have done their worst!!

Foxes what Cag said! You have done amazingly well with paper decluttering (and your decluttering persistence has put me to shame yet again!!) Smile

Cineraria yes there are so many of us it is difficult to keep tabs on everyone at first!

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

We had a lovely family evening tonight at riding centre gala in beautiful golden evening sunshine (that wasn't too hot) where believe it or not (no pun intended)) I proudly won second place in the fast-release knot tying competition! Whey hey! DD also did well over jumps (not on dhorse as he is not a big jumper bless him). Lots of beer and frites consumed afterwards!

Sleep well everyone!
