Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

I crushed a couple of garlic cloves, chopped some chives and some spring onion, plus regular mayo and a bit of salt :) was super yum

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2018 16:32

I'M going to scream...just lost a big, long post to answer Cags, sc and cassie arrrggh. Will come back when I calm down and reply. Also DH will wonder what I am not doing. Snuck up stairs ( to toilet.)

One thing.
Have ordered summer house 😃 Quite excited. Have to wait six weeks as they are making that many😳 Well made and good price. No RBC allowed in it!

Cagliostro · 03/08/2018 16:37

And aww thank you yes it feels good we are having so many firsts in this house and we are still discovering new cool stuff about the house!

I've still done fuck all today but we are gradually making the decisions about what ikea stuff to order. We are ignoring the wardrobe for now (friend lending us hanging rail anyway) and DD will have to live without a desk for a bit as I'm not entirely sure we can fit the kallax one in (she has a day bed so there needs to be space for that to be pulled out). And it's taking ages to decide exactly what inserts to get. I'm knackered!

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2018 16:37

cineraria
I think you are going to fit in here just fine.
Tale about lawn-mowing made me LoL 😁
Started lost post to say how lovely Cags after 16 years. It just makes me smile thinking about you and your family in your new house.😊

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/08/2018 17:48

Aw cags lovely story's of the new house.agree with foxes 🏅 forowing I'd it's a hot as is here!!
Foxes hope you are feeling a bit better.ive checked weather app for coming week before starting meal plan as I abandoned doing mine when weather hot all tropical on us and idea cooking much in heat makes me want run away to a beach and a cool shady spot!!

Tada
Fed zoolets
Did get stairs hoovered
Wash kitchen floor
Iron dry washing(whilst hogging fan)and put away
Meal plan( after weather check for coming week-long care if it's not perfectly accurate just want to know days temps ment top 25oc and those will be super low effort affairs!!)
Braid up dd2 hair as getting fed up of being to hot(light hairspray it should be lightly wavy/tousled looking tomorrow)
Debate when to start tea...
Homemade burgers(no onion etc)new potatoes and green beans for lil zoo and D's
Dp and dd2 veggie sausage, chips and roasted tomatoes, onions and peppers
I think a cheese sandwich will do for me as I'm too hot and grumpy and not remotely hungry!!
Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/08/2018 18:01

Just the one zoo surely they work in pairs, elf and safety and all that. Don't want them throwing their backs out...

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/08/2018 18:14

Grinhills

foxessocks · 03/08/2018 18:28

Thanks cag I'm going to try that potato salad at some point Smile

Not too bad thanks zoo, and yes definitely need to check the weather before I meal plan!! I think I had originally planned the soup earlier in the week when it was cooler but I just do a weeks worth of meals rather than an exact meal for each day so somewhere along the line I've cooked things in the wrong order and got left with soup in 31 degree heatGrin.

It wasn't too bad though we had lots of bread and butter and some cucumber with it and ice cream for pudding. And ate it outside in a shady spot. Plus loads of leftovers which I think I'll freeze for a month or so 😂

foxessocks · 03/08/2018 18:29

Excellent list as ever zoo!

foxessocks · 03/08/2018 18:31

I have tidied all the dinner things away, all the toys away and because I no longer have an ironing pile I am just going to relax while the dc are in the bath Shock

Only thing is I'm slightly twitching because I haven't cleaned the bathroom and I was meant to do that today it's looking a bit grim. But I'm too hot and I don't want to spray bleach around while the dc are in there (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/08/2018 20:29

Hello all, have caught up on the thread and you have all been so busy! Cineraria, I don’t get dressed to shoes and I think a lot of us don’t. I don’t wear shoes in the house. I think Flylady is very American and it seems much more of a thing to wear shoes in the house there. Absolutely NOT wanting to start a shoes in or out of he house argument though - each to their own Grin.

Have been AWOL as we heard that our holiday which we planned to leave for next weekend had been overbooked! Thankfully was package booked with a travel agent and we have managed to get another very similar one booked but have had a lot to sort out and it has been a very long couple of days. Worse things happen of course but DH especially was so looking forward to it as he loves the heat and works longish hours and was ready for a week off. Anyway, nearly all sorted now. I am off to go and get fish and chips and we need to sit with the calendar as the dates are a little different and sort it out.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/08/2018 21:29

Ah but you are forgetting that Fly lady is very keen on the symbolism. The getting dressed to your shoes can actually be taken at a far more basic level of principle.

To get dressed to your shoes means that you are ready to go out - you are washed, dressed, make up on, hair done etc etc. This makes it ok for people to pop around unannounced because you are ready for them. It makes you available to leave the house because you are ready for it. Whether you actually put the shoes on or not is irrelevant if everything else is done because of the symbolism of what it means. I have house shoes and outdoor shoes, some people like slippers, some have house flipflops, so like socks, some bare feet. Whatever if the rest of you meets the principle.

Also if you are looking after yourself and you are ready it puts you in a better frame of mind to make the house ready in a weird pyschology kinda way

BBL making blueberry muffins with ds and he needs to go to bed soon

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/08/2018 21:37

Yes very true Hills. In fact, that is one of the most useful things I found about the system. I don’t get dressed to shoes but I absolutely do get dressed and ‘ready’ early.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 03/08/2018 21:44

Yep agree hills I definitely don't wear Lace up shoes in the house but I do have a shower, brush my hair, maybe some make up if I feel like it , get dressed all first thing whatever my plans for the day are. It makes a big difference to me personally.

Toostressy Shock how can they just tell you that that's crazy!!? Glad it's sorted sort of at least.

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2018 23:33

Didn't get much done today. Felt very lethargic most of the day. A couple of things I have noticed recently. Tired even if I have had a good nights sleep.sense of smell and therefore taste not as good seems bland unless very spicy. Checked medication tonight and yes all included in side affects so feel better as thought I was just being a lazy b.
Did get some gardening done. Just pruning , watering and dead heading.
DD made lovely vegan meal. I made pancakes at DH s request and DD made vegan ones. We had them with black currant jam. It is lovely. Quite tart but I like that.
Hoping that I get more done in the house tomorrow.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/08/2018 07:12

foxessocks · 04/08/2018 07:30

Morning all. Back to ds waking 3 times last night

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 07:52

Morning!

Absolutely nothing productive to report yesterday Blush as the heat got to me, save for meal provision and clearing up, a wee bit of tidying and blackberry picking.

Also, DD, having kept the teenagery eye-rolling attitude in check during nearly three weeks of visitors, unleashed it in full force yesterday (and mainly at me) and my patience was sorely tested. I had to give her a bit of a talking to about not ruining the holiday for everyone and how we have a responsibility to try and be reasonably cheerful around others etc, etc. Anyway, I have been given the evil eye ever since. Rather miffed at this, particularly as dh bought her new stirrup leathers yesterday!

Sorry for whinge (again). It's just getting me down rather as this bit (without visitors) is meant to be the fun bit when we have our holiday). And next batch of visitors are looming! (Sigh!)

Hey how! Had better go and practice what I preach!

Have a good day everyone (well as good as possible in this heat!).

Bowerbird5 · 04/08/2018 08:12

zoo
Wow what time did you get up? I'm just thinking about it. DH has just brought me a cup of tea and he is going to take DD to work😀 Sometimes he is a good old stick.

Looks like it might rain. It was torrential for a while yesterday showery rest of day till 3pm.

foxes feel for you. He was probably hot. Can you have a nap if he does later?

To do
I think I will tackle hall upstairs where lies RboxesC. Can DH be persuaded to go into loft and put away the Xmas stuff he missed in January? !!!
Then I can sort the rest. Books for charity shop or DDs friends cafe. They are thinking of having little library so would be ideal as some are kids encyclopaedias. Old but would keep kid amused in cafe as one a q? & ans book.
Still big pile of RC on hot spot dining room tables we have two at the moment as moved one from another house. Need to decide which goes where.
Water tomatoes, one is turning😀
Move chicken fence try and figure out how she is getting out. Our garden not good enough now she has to go to next doors, next door plus 1 and was seen at the pub and crossing the road😳 she has been confined to small barracks. Chef eyeing up prospective produce, gave him a courgette ( marrow) to pacify him.

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 08:21

Hey how?? Eh? Meant heigh ho!

Foxes glad your cycle is sorting itself out but sorry about yet more broken nights Foxes Brew. We had soup last night too (made it spicy for this weather) surprisingly refreshing! Hope your DH feels better soon.

Oh that's a bit rubbish about the holiday Toostressy; hope they offered you some compensation for inconvenience caused! They can't have it both ways and encourage people to book early, and then say they are over-booked! Hope your DH happy with equivalent holiday anyway!

Wise words there from Hills about Flylady philosophy! Totally agree about the symbolism of the lace up shoe!

Amazing list Zoo!

Blackcurrant jam is my favourite Bower they are very keen on myrtilles here (blueberry) but it just doesn't have the same zing imho! Take it steady and hope the side effects of meds not too long lasting. Whey hey to imminent summer house arrival!

Cineraria arf at lawn-mower and toddler co!our-mixing anecdotes (I remember the brown phase well!!) Grin and you are doing exactly the right thing by adapting Flylady system to suit yourself and your home!

Cassandra I think a few posters on here are super cleaners but I definitely do not qualify!

Great lists Cucumber and well done re: futility room Smile!

Enjoy the lawn CAG! Hope your DH found his phone!

Waves to I've Honu who knows and everyone else I've forgotten!

!

Cagliostro · 04/08/2018 08:30

That sucks about the holiday. I've been hearing that a lot lately, DSD had her holiday overbooked in June and it meant that they missed out on a particular attraction which was a main reason for going! I don't see how it's allowed.

Glad the period arrived foxes I wonder if it was stress related, you were really down for a while with the bereavement and everything, sometimes stress can stop you ovulating.

I agree about the getting dressed thing. I am less inclined to wander about in jammies in the new house as the position of doors and windows means people walking past is more common at the kitchen window, although the living room is very private. I must get better at getting up and dressed.

Finding it difficult lately as although Cagletini is sleeping much better, she is waking up at just the wrong side of dawn for me to get back to sleep. I am really heading into flare up territory but it has been that way since we moved really (two weeks today!) and I'm not sure if it's going to develop further. But I also realised I haven't actually been further than the pub or park since last Saturday! Oops. I have kept myself busy cleaning etc and the Caglets have been enjoying the space and have been out a bit with DH, but I've decided to brave a trip out today. We can get to the lovely neighboring town more easily now due to bus routes so we may go there. It all feels like a lot of effort with the baby though she's bloody hard work ATM.

Anyone with allergy related eczema, did you get tests or work it out yourself? I have long wondered if DS has this, specialist refused to refer as she insisted it is atopic and he will outgrow it, but he's nearly 9 and it's still hideous at times. But an exclusion diet (which all the advice says not to do unless advised Hmm) would be utter hell especially as he's a fussy eater and lives for dairy. I'm not sure if we should push for it. That said he's been OK lately which could be the extra sunshine/vitamin D and warmth, or the fact we now live in a lovely airy house with no damp or mould issues. So now wondering if that was the cause. :(

Bowerbird5 · 04/08/2018 08:32

Morning SC
just wrote post about cheese Cassie yes to sheeps but goats 😝
And long one about ponies SC. Short to Cags doing brilliantly and lost bloody post for third time. Bloody IPad playing up. It just went.
So short post and get posted quick!

Cagliostro · 04/08/2018 08:38

Thank you sc yes his phone had fallen out of his bag in the boss' car! He'd had a lift home as they'd gone down to the coast to help another store get ready for the onslaught of extra customers due to Pride. I am now wearing a store branded rainbow tee :o

We have finalized what we are getting from ikea (mostly kallax, one bit of trofast and lots of baskets and shelf inserts - figured the inserts can be easily bought in person if we need more, without needing a car, so went on the conservative side). Not going to worry about unpacking any more until that arrives, there is no point as nothing to unpack into! We should be getting the clothing rail on Wednesday so that should make our room a lot better too.

I ache so much. Must get up, hoping getting moving will help.

Scoopofchaff · 04/08/2018 08:38

Waves back to Bower and escapologist Henny Penny!

Take it steady Cags!

Bowerbird5 · 04/08/2018 08:40

Agree about holiday.
Happened to one of staff a while ago they offered term time instead 😳 Eh no!

Yes, have mild eczema. GP diagnosed. Can definitely be allergy related and craving dairy can be the problem. You need to eliminated for minimum of three weeks , four better. Then have lots and sit back and watch.
Mine is also stress related from observation.
