How much do you spend on flowers per week?

I love fresh flowers and have recently signed up for bloom and wild, I love the surprise. So far the flowers last two weeks, so I have them delivered fortnightly for £18, which in my head is like spending £9 a week on flowers. What do you spend?

OP posts:
BarbaraOcumbungles · 27/02/2018 20:34

I buy myself a bunch of flowers most weeks. Maybe £5.

WellTidy · 27/02/2018 20:34

This time of year, maximum £5. I buy daffodils, have them in a few rooms.

About a month ago, I was spending maybe £8 a week - irises for the hall, tulips for the kitchen, roses for the dining room.

So I would say maybe £8 a week, on average. The DC buy me a bunch of something maybe once a month. My favourites are peonies, so I will always buy those when I see them, as the season is so short.

Around Christmas and Easter, about £25 a week as I like to have something with more impact.

I also have a few flowering house plants on the go.

I buy all flowers in the supermarket wth my weekly shop.

poddige · 27/02/2018 20:34

@stayathomegardener haven't rtft but if that's your Instagram page your username is at the top!

Theyre gorgeous flowers. I absolutely love flowers in the house. Have so many houseplants, I've a skill with indoor plants but not so good with outdoor plants.

Agree with pp - it's definitely a self care thing for me too. Along with a clean, tidy and lovely smelling home. Not necessary, but really help me feel happy.

If we've got it spare then I'll always get a bunch with the weekly shop. The £3 lilies from Aldi are lovely.

Emmageddon · 27/02/2018 20:42

Is this a surreptitious ad for bloom and wild?

BackforGood · 27/02/2018 20:45

Probably £5 - £6 per year
I do like fresh flowers, but part of the pleasure of seeing them is the fact that someone cared enough to think of me and get them for me.
I don't mean a routine habit like the 'dh buys them every Friday', I mean a very occasional 'saw these and thought of you' or 'I wanted to thank you for...# , or 'It is kind of you to invite me round', or 'I thought you needed cheering up' type of thoughts.
Seems odd to buy them for myself except the '3 bunches of daffs for £1'

Chasingsquirrels · 27/02/2018 20:47

Between nothing and £4 usually, I like the £2.99 roses in Aldi but getting £1 daffodils atm.

Saying that in the last 7 days I've spent;
£1 bunch of daffodils
£6 on 3 small pots of hyacinths and 3 small pots of tulips
£6 on a new orchid

Steeley113 · 27/02/2018 20:48

Sometimes I think I live in a different world to mumsnet. I never buy myself flowers, nor does anyone else I know my age (mid-late 20s).

PostNotInHaste · 27/02/2018 20:49

I don’t as DD complains they make her sneeze. Someone’s going to give me daffodils in the next day or two, she’ll have to deal for a bit.

Usually sneak some in later in the summer though. I spent £8 on Wilko dahlia tubers the other day and will take cuttings from them to increase stock and lots for cutting plus there’s a fair bit else in the garden I can use.

TyrannosaurusBex · 27/02/2018 20:49

£5 or £6 a week, usually tulips at this time of year. Makes a big difference to the look of a room. I have lots of plants, too.

LemonysSnicket · 27/02/2018 20:51

£1-4

Daffodils or tulips.

Never more than £4

Although I only buy them in spring because they’re cheap and not every week. Occasional poinsettia at Xmas.

Sevendown · 27/02/2018 20:54

The supermarkets have so many someone’s buying them!

irregularegular · 27/02/2018 20:55

Very, very little. In season, my husband is quite good at bringing in nice bunches from the garden and popping them in a vase. One of his good traits. I often think I should buy fresh flowers more often out of season, but I'm rarely in/near shops to buy them, so I don't.

I digress, but....very early on in our relationship, when we were still grad students, my (now) husband bought a couple of bunches of tulips, one for my room and one for his. I thought that was so nice! It made much more of an impression on me than if he a bought a big showy bouquet just for me.

LBOCS2 · 27/02/2018 20:57

About a fiver every two weeks - I usually have a bunch of lilies in the living room and they last really well from Aldi. At this time of year I also do tulips or daffs on the kitchen table as they're so cheerful.

And once a year, during peony season, I'll splash out on a really massive bunch of peonies as they make me happy.

HRTpatch · 27/02/2018 20:58

£10-15 A week. I have about 6-8 vases all over the house.
I love them.

TheQueef · 27/02/2018 20:59

It's the menu @katherinaminola I get carried away when the price is just slightly more.
That £5-£10 extra can make all the difference in dazzling or dull.

WipsGlitter · 27/02/2018 21:00

I always have flowers on the hall table. Depends how long they last. About £10 a fortnight.

madamginger · 27/02/2018 21:08

I spend about £5-8 a week on a bunch when I’m doing my shopping. I love fresh flowers in the house.

Lobsterface · 27/02/2018 21:12

A couple of pounds a week when daffs and sweet William are in season. I’ll buy gerbera if I’m aldi and I see them.

RedPandaMama · 27/02/2018 21:21

Interesting what @SilverHairedCat said about it helping her depression. I really struggle with anxiety and used to go through very sad, anxious phases where I wouldn't leave the house. Not as bad now I have DD but I find having fresh flowers in the house makes it feel so much more positive and alive, as well as making sure I clean the surfaces and open the curtains. We don't have a lot of money so I like buying the 75p bunches of daffodils from Lidl at this time of year. Usually have two, one in the living room and one in the kitchen. Really brighten my day.

BackforGood · 27/02/2018 21:23

The supermarkets have so many someone’s buying them

29 times out of 30 that I buy flowers, I buy them for someone else though. The OP was asking about buying them for yourself.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2018 21:24

I don't have a weekly budget as such but when I've got the cash I spend about £5 per week.

Having lived in Holland though, it makes me mad - they cost literally a third of the amount here

AlphaNumericalSequence · 27/02/2018 21:26

It is a relief to see so many people spending £££ on cut flowers. Makes me feel less guily about my houseplant habit.

I almost never buy cut flowers but I have a million houseplants, three of which are in flower at the moment - an amarylis, a dendrobium kingianum and an (unseasonable!) easter flowering cactus.

Shop-bought flowers are really lovely, but words can't express just how JOYFUL it is having home-grown flowers and plants dotted about the house. I am an addict.

Oblomov18 · 27/02/2018 21:36

£1 on daffs. Probably 3 consecutive weeks.
A bunch of tulips for £5, 2 or 3 times per year.
Dh will probably buy me flowers 3 or 4 times a year.

That's enough.
