Welcome to the April Flylady thread. We will be posting links every day to the Flylady method of maintaining your home and all posters, lurkers, newbies and returners are welcome - there will be a lot bit of general chat too. Post your ta-da successes and inspire others (or join some of us in the naughty corner on a less-than-stellar day, we all have them!) and bask in the support of the fledglings as we swing into Spring and ease towards Easter (avoiding the dreaded pointy stick of motivation)!

Hark at you lot up so early on a Saturday!

Sorry your night out was curtailed Foxes Sad

It was my late ma who said that Zoo Grin. Looking at the boudoir and home office right now, I think she was/is right!Grin

Thanks for star (and for flowers!!) but only one hr (amazingly) btwn 2 wrecks (two different worlds!!) so easy to flit btwn both and one always in need of a scrub. Tis true all my usual routines are out of whack ATM though, including meal planning, and we only really finished moving in at Easter, so time to get better/much more efficient at stuff!

Having a day in town today as DD has classmates over so going to take advantage and try and strike a few errands off the list. Dh very excited about Chelsea match later on and friends coming over so getting in beer and wherewithal to do barbecue (using oven!).

So far have made chocolate chip cookies, pastry for apple pie and sultana tray bake has just gone in oven for teen visitors. About to start on meat marinade ... .

Then off to rouse DD and furry out of bed so she can hoover her bedroom and we can do family bed making.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 11:11

Aw shame about the night out foxes glad you got out for a bit though. It's hard when they're so little.

DD is getting a bus on her own today for the first time :) with a parent at either end of the (short) journey though!

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 11:43

Aw cag they grow up so quickly don't they?
PS I popped corner shop fir paper (extravagance, I know)and discovered Pepsi max in ginger flavour. Do you like Pepsi cag?

Been shops
Done 1load wash/dry/put away

Still on the road to good intentions but not getting very far

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 12:20

[extends hand of friendship along that road to Zoo where I am plodding slowly too]

Good luck to your dd today Cag aw bless her! (I remember the first time dd took metro on her own to school - I was petrified - despite having done loads of accompanied and partially accompanied and unaccompanied dry runs beforehand. Tis a real milestone Smile.)

I've just stopped for 5 mins to have a Brew and calm down before everyone arrives at 2.15 -2.30 pm. Despite me getting up to bake at crack of sparrows for her friends (and happy to do it) dd is in a foul mood because her phone has broken and so I am feeling a bit miffed tbh and wondering why I bother [teens eh?]

Admittedly this is a phone that was first used by dh, then by me briefly and was then handed down to her. We've offered to replace it but she only wants a terribly expensive fashionable model (the one "all her friends have" apparently) and dh has put his foot down and said no way because, apart from the expense issues when we are trying hard to budget atm, he thinks she would be a target for thieves on public transport every day. Plus we are very keen on her not growing up to be an entitled 'only'!

Trouble is, I looked on teenager thread and everyone seemed to have bought their teens really expensive Iphones - we are talking 400 Euros and above here. Surely that can't be right for a teenager can it? Surely? What world are we living in where has become "normal"? Asking here because you youngsters are more in touch with stuff like this than old crocks like me.... [bewildered emoticon].

Sorry to de-rail from Flying as usual ..Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 12:28

sc dd2 has a,Samsung galaxy for kids,ds has a cheap one from ee(£20)-£20.that boy could loose shoes in a shoeboxGrin
Mine aren't fussed on latest gizmos tbh thankfully.dd2 phone was part of a tesco phone package couple tears ago.when lil zoo is start do things alone she we also get cheap ee phone as like you said isn't a thieves target (at school or in public places)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/04/2017 12:31

Hello all, Cag, how exciting for your DD!

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 12:43

HI again! All good except the milk DH had bought leaked in her bag! Thank goodness they'd put her dance shoes in a different bag 😱😱 still she's very proud. Big girl :)

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 13:13

Oh and zoo I do quite like Pepsi but have massively cut down since new year (and have lost half a stone because of it) I miss it though! I may have a try of the ginger one though as if it helps it'll be worth it! Maybe I should be brave and have some ginger beer too

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 13:36

Aw,bless her. Glad milk didn't leak on her dance shoes (stale milk stink not attractive)be a proud mum and enjoy hee achievementSmile

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 14:35

Thanks Zoo I will investigate further ... . To be fair to dd, she isn't usually interested in expensive stuff and she's quite an economical good shopper but it's just this ruddy phone issue. Juddging from all the drama it is causing; you'd think the world would end the day you can't access Instagram Hmm

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 14:35

Well done to mini-Cag!! Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 15:23

Ah,Instagram!!I have an accounts also live in a zoo there to avoid school mums looking for gossipGrindon't post that often, but I follow dd2 so keep tabs what she's up toWink
Tbh not as bad Facebook(she's not allowed account on that, unlike lot friends) she's also a user name,so if you don't know it can't find her

I am still paving my way with good intention doing battle tricky level in alphabetty

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 15:56

Actually I might mean WhatsApp (all the same to me) although dh has list of passwords and we check what she's up to at random times ... .

Have started a thread under teen section and dear me it is an eye opener!! Shock

Well I am playing the role of the ittle woman/her indoors this afternoon, flitting btwn laundry, kitchen and boudoir and mumsnetting waiting for teens to go around 6pm ... and dh friends to arrive for footie watching ... Prepping my orders Wink

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 16:20

Meh,she's on WhatsApp tooConfused
All goes overy head these new fangled things.dp is techno whizz watching over events
I've just had moment in the sun...
She had a piece English homework-to write letter to the courts explaining an alternate reason why the janitor was haunting the toy store in first live action Scooby doo film...letter writing was big in my day,I was actually usefullGrin

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 16:39

Goodness yes! We had to write letters endlessly in Eng lang lessons when I was a child. It is not something they are big on over here for some reason and yet it is such a useful skill! [Old crocks together emoticon] Grin Wink

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 16:57

(Def old crock together sc)
Or as ds used to say when Jesus was alive and dinosaurs roamed the earth you were s little girl, weren't you mummyConfusedGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 16:58

Old lazy crock in this case as after my homework advice I've sat and eaten 2buttered hot x buns, and am clearly back on mn,not cleaning!!

Sweepingchange · 22/04/2017 17:05

Same here Zoo (although suspect you are much younger than me as I am ancient!!Grin) -keep finding myself lurking near the Easter eggs - must stir my stumps now though (groan) as teens are off bowling ... .

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/04/2017 17:25

Are you designated taxi?!(glad I can't drive!!)
I am now going go thru a veggie cookbook dd2 borrow from library 2 weeks ago and copy recipes she wants(as I do it faster Apparently) good job I enjoy perusing recipes!!Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/04/2017 18:59

Hello all, we are away for the weekend while in laws look after DDs!!!!!!! Is for a work thing DH is doing tomorrow morning but still a night in an uncluttered hotel room (which makes me dream my house could be like this..... ha ha) Smile. Also did some sightseeing which would have been a totally different ball game with DC. So no decluttering, instead have been making a dent in the chaos that is my email inbox.

Foxes, sorry your night cut short, can be very difficult to manage nights out with young children Flowers.

Cotswold, did your parents improve with being upset by crying children? Any tips?

BluePheasant, it has only been two days so too soon to tell but after reading a parenting book I am making a real effort to pay DD2 more attention on busy work mornings. In the hope that by paying her more attention she gets ready more easily rather than playing up for attention which is what I think was happening at times as we were all rushing round getting ready. Will see what happens!

foxessocks · 22/04/2017 20:13

Thanks all, any night out is better than none so I shouldn't complain!!

I've done very little flying today. And now my children are not sleeping and I can feel my evening slipping away!!

So much for good intentions this morning zoo...Think you did a lot better than me

PurpleDaisies · 22/04/2017 20:23

Hi everyone, and hope the sunshine's been as glorious with you as it is here. Dh was in a going things mood so it was great to wake up to find him cleaning the hob. I had family over so there was a fair bit of emergency tidying. I've been to b and q after the wall plugs weren't right for the wall. Annoyingly I now have the right wall plugs but the screws don't fit them so I've got to go again tomorrow. Still, hopefully by tomorrow evening I will have a place to hang up coats that isn't the bannister or the kitchen chairs. At b and q I got plug plants and have potted up a load of tubs and hanging baskets.

I couldn't put it off any longer and had to look at work for Monday. I officially have the post easter holiday blues and I'm not even back yet...

mermaidsandunicorns · 22/04/2017 20:37

Hello all
Hope you've all had good days
Had a garden marathon today
Painted fence
Planted border plants
Repotted chillies
Strimmed lawn
Sanded and painted bench
Swept steps
Man came to bleach wash steps I forgot he was coming so was glad I had swept everything

Have a good weekend work tomorrow so getting it all done today

CotswoldStrife · 22/04/2017 22:24

zoo your one-liners never fail to cheer me but the 'lose shoes in a shoebox' has made me roar (and even made DH laugh when I told him too). I am not a cool mum and DD has no social media at all. Or phone.

stressy, enjoy the hotel room - it's always the bathroom that gets me for some reason the complete lack of cr@p lying around but it can be nice for a change. My parents did not get much better with the crying tbh, it was more of an issue with a particular set of grandchildren and the insistence of their parents that they went to sleep at a set time in a strange place, when has that ever worked with small children

SC letters! Not only did we have to write them in primary school, but if we were ever given a letter to take home we had to fold it into the shape of an envelope and address it to ourselves (Miss C Strife, 1 Acacia Avenue, Town, Postcode) before we took it home!
