to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

maryz track it on amazon, it'll drop at some point. If I ever see it drop loads I'll give you a massive shout.

Kidnapped · 02/04/2016 22:47

Oh, yes, I have a Brabantia peg basket.

Which is a huge improvement on the plastic Co-op carrier bag (with holes that the pegs used to fall through) that I used before.

has anyone mentioned the Vileda squirty mop? No bucket needed, just keep the handle filled with lovely smelling Method floor cleaner and off you go.

I've been looking for something like that!!! I can't be arsed with mop and bucket and don't rate my steam cleaner. Is it easy to fill? Is it heavy due to liquid cleaner being stored in it?

Thanks for all the shower screen watermark tips, am sadly excited to try them out Blush

2rebecca · 02/04/2016 22:55

I love my Brabantia peg bag as well. The pegs that come with it are really naff though

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 02/04/2016 22:56

I have those hanging shoe storage things on the back of a wardrobe door and on the back of the under stairs cupboard door. Great for sorting things like hats and gloves, so that everybody has their own hat pocket and own gloves pocket. Also store things like torches, and general little bits.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 02/04/2016 22:57

The mop is very easy to fill and not heavy, you don't use a lot of liquid as it has a microfibre cloth head, not a traditional mop head. My kitchen is fairly small but one refill of the handle lasts a good few weeks, using it 2 or 3x a week.

Kidnapped · 02/04/2016 23:01

This thread is like group therapy. Grin

My name is Kidnapped and I have a Lakeland habit. Started with just the floor cleaning solutions and the microfibre cloths. It was small-scale and I thought I could handle it. Didn't see the harm in it. And lots of other people were doing it. And then they sent me the magazines full of gleaming mops, efficient vacuum cleaners and turbo rotary driers. That brought me low.

And, I'm not ashamed to admit it, there was a bit of peer pressure. I was weak.

Since then I have dabbled with Ikea and Simple Human but I thank the Lord above that I am not into the hard stuff like Joseph Joseph.

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 02/04/2016 23:06

Shoe storage thingy i used for hats and gloves (the bottom row conveniently velcros up behind the rest so it can be used on short doors too):

I also have two of these
m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/80245876/
in my "airing" cupboard (not the boiler cupboard), for sorting all bedding and towels, so its easy to see what bedding is for who's bed (we all have 1 shelf for duvet covers and pillow cases, 1 for sheets and 1 for mattress protectors).

How did I not know a cordless Dyson was a thing? I can't wait for my 6 year old Dyson to break now! not that it gets used much as the cleaner brings her own

That's it you've convinced me. I'm buying a vileda squirty mop in the morning.

ClaraLane · 02/04/2016 23:11

We've set up a proper old-fashioned wedding list for when we get married in September and the two things I want the most are the Tefal pans and the cordless Dyson. Future in laws have both and I covet them sooo badly!

I've got some magnetic spice jars on the side of the fridge but they're not labelled or alphabetical. As I don't have a label maker I might have to pinch some sticky labels from work on Monday! Also going to look into that under-cupboard kitchen roll holder because ours is cluttering up the windowsill and I hate it.

Can someone tell me more about wifi plugs? I feel like they're far superior to remote control plugs (which I still don't have even though I want them!)!!

Kidnapped Grin

Only problem is this thread means I've now got lots of tabs open and I need to spend at least one evening look at lakeland. I'll be skint soon.

And that's how it starts. Seems harmless, doesn't it? Just a squirty mop - what could be wrong with that?

It isn't just a squirty mop. It is a GATEWAY mop. Sad

ButterfliesinSpring · 02/04/2016 23:27

Grin away all day and squealing with delight now over the thread

I'm going to try the gateway mop. I may even go hardcore and get another steam one broke old one but vaccumming and steaming at the same time - Iv OD'd ^

I know but it looks perfect and I really do need one. Honest.

Its not like the magnetic paint, toaster tongs, culinary tweezers, instant pot pressure cooker, Lakeland fat trappers, etc that this thread has made me want need.

DisappointedOne · 02/04/2016 23:39

so its easy to see what bedding is for who's bed (we all have 1 shelf for duvet covers and pillow cases, 1 for sheets and 1 for mattress protectors).

I just put the folded duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases into one of the pillowcases for the set. Can just grab the set I want and everything is inside.

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 02/04/2016 23:42

Oh and my dad recently got me a ratchet screwdriver. It's brilliant. So much easier and faster to build flat pack.

Kidnapped · 02/04/2016 23:45

You can only help people who want to help themselves.

Guffawed at Lakeland fat trappers though. Conjured up all sorts of images.

I do put the duvet cover inside the pillow. However My DC are still little so I often end up changing different bits at different times (for example DS was sick on pillow in middle of night but sheets were fine. Or DD nappy leaked and fitted sheet and protecter need changing but not duvet.)

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 02/04/2016 23:49

www.lakeland.co.uk/2056/Fat-Trappers

Kidnapped Lakeland fat trappers. Somebody mentioned them earlier.

Mine's still quite little 5 going on 13 but I always made the bed as follows: fitted towelling mattress protector, fitted sheet, bed mat (reusable non crinkly) second fitted sheet. Meant any accidents could be dealt with easily in the middle of the night.

(I can count the number of times she's ever been sick on one hand - and all but one were in our bed rather than hers.)

Dancergirl · 02/04/2016 23:57

rousette I like your drying rack thingy.

I have these:

www.lakeland.co.uk/23868/Diamond-Drying-Mat

You can wash them in the machine and the best thing is that they come in black AND white. This is perfect for me as we have black granite and white with a sink in each so I have one in each colour Smile

I am also loving my new fridge at the moment:

www.johnlewis.com/fisher-paykel-rf540adusx4-goliath-3-door-fridge-freezer-stainless-steel/p575898

Soooo much fridge space and you can see everything you have. Much better than American side by side IMO.
