In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Full set inside pillow case is brilliant for the spare room as it's the only bed that uses that size, and always gets changed in full.

Any of the children's beds might need a midnight change of one item, and a child could need three bottom sheets in a night but no duvet cover or pillow case.

I'm going to be changing just my bottom sheet in the morning because somehow the toddler got chocolate on it this morning

Found this thread and think I may have died and gone to heaven?

BocaDeTrucha · 03/04/2016 00:18

My thermomix.... without doubt. It makes ice cream, bread dough, soup, it chops, steams, cooks, frys, it even makes icing sugar from normal sugar. I never bother anymore with any of the other kitchen stuff and only use this. It even looks cool.

VerbenaGirl · 03/04/2016 00:23

Bought myself a tin trug from Homebase today. Makes me feel happy. Husband rolled his eyes quite a bit.... www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/garden-trug---dark-blue-436899

Love this thread!! We have a cordless Bosch vacuum and it's amazing -so light and easy. I vacuum the stray litter from the cat's tray within minutes of it hitting the floor now. Who knew it was the plugging in that was the vacuuming bugbear?
Also love my pretty storage tins for pasta, rice , nuts, seeds.
And of course IKEA kallax units with the fabric baskets for toy storage.

unlucky83 · 03/04/2016 01:15

Bedding I have 'Kondo'd' - vertical folded - into two plastic shallow (underbed) storage boxes - one for singles, one for doubles. (At nearly 50 I learnt how to fold fitted sheets!) I fold the matching pillowcases inside the duvet cover. So you grab two things -not one- but you can see exactly what you have...
I also love my cordless vac(s) mine is a Hoover with a detachable handheld bit and I would be lost without it...I use it everyday. It could be a wee bit more powerful but I got the cheaper model (£60) cos it is only for hard floors (downstairs) and I wondered if it would be a bit of a gadget - when it dies I am definitely having another one.
I looked at Dyson animals but they don't appear to stand up on their own? You have to lie them down if you want to move something. Are the latest ones different? Not only would that annoy me but I read a review where they had propped their few week old one up and it had fallen over and cracked. And a friend said hers is heavy - you can't really dust the ceilings with it with one hand - the ad must be a dummy one Grin
Upstairs (carpets) I have a cheap cordless Gtech sweeper (£30ish) - again really handy for a quick run round and so simple (and cheap) that the DCs used it from the age of 5...
I do have a corded hoover (Miele) for doing a thorough hoover once a week..that I also love.
(I hate cleaning so have a vacuum thing - I have two window vacs (one in the bathroom for the shower and one for windows), a vax carpet washer, a handheld cordless wet hoover (good for spills/defrosting freezers), a handheld carpet washer (corded) better for spills on carpets but less handy, a DIY (workshop) wet and dry hoover and a cheap corded vacuum which when it dies I won't replace (I'll use the DIY one) - it lives out in the garage for things like cleaning the car and attaches to the ash vac container for cleaning out the wood burner ....I even have a leaf vac for the garden Blush - and I NEED them all)

MrsFlorrick · 03/04/2016 01:49

My robot Hoover. It's the best. My dream is to have three. One for each floor of the house Smile

Fauchelevent · 03/04/2016 02:17

I'm 23 and an obsessive home maker. Everyone just accepts I'd rather be home cooking and tidying than anywhere else.

Lakeland actually makes me nervous because I want SO MANY THINGS. And yes I'm a utility room, storage and pantry obsessive. Once I live somewhere with all those three I'll have made it!!

Living in a teeny london rental is such a punishment for me :(

CaptainWarbeck · 03/04/2016 02:29

Right, WiFi plugs. What kind of sorcery is this? How do you use them? I'm totally intrigued.

Also very interested in the gateway mop. I am mopping ALL the time with a crawling food throwing 11 month old. Have been tempted by a steam mop but I think this squirty mop could be the answer! Off to google.

Ditsy4 · 03/04/2016 04:15

I am planning a visit to Lakeland. I live an hour from the original ( large ) shop with restaurant! I try and limit myself to once or twice a year.
I have really useful boxes. Loads! I have loads in craft room for different crafts and stacked in daughters old wardrobe. Under the bed containing all my Christmas crockery because it is too heavy to place in loft and DH broke a brand new cake plate trying to put box up there. I also have one for shoes.

IKEA cheap wooden boxes:- I bought lots of half price paint pots from Homebase and painted them different colours when I was off sick.Loved them so much I did( confiscated) daughter ones too. I now have craft things in larger one and colour co-ordinated threads in a small one. I'm in process of painting another. I ran out of paint but I think I only had six colours and it has done all but the outside of one set. I love them.
I have the Dyson lightweight it is compact . I love it but would like a small one for stairs like cordless.

Ditsy4 · 03/04/2016 04:16

Great thread fo insomnia by the way!

stumblymonkey · 03/04/2016 05:58

Tell me more about this gateway mop.....

How often do you need to change the mop bit? Surely it needs changing every week because it doesn't get all the shit rinsed off it in a mop bucket?

I have total envy of anyone with a pantry, utility room or boot room. Envy

My joy sparking items are the cream metal vintage style boxes I keep cat food and stuff for the compost heap in. My watermelon pink sewing machine. The special 'scarf hangar' I bought recently so I can actually see what scarves I have and my retractable washing line!

camelfinger · 03/04/2016 06:30

We got some wifi plugs off Amazon. About £20-30 I think. We plug lights into them and can turn them on an d off remotely using an app on my phone. Really useful for when you're away, or for annoying/scaring whoever is sitting in the room.
I have the squirty mop and it's ok. The proper Vileda liquid that you're supposed to use smells lovely but is too expensive to justify buying imo. I have since used a mixture of Flash and water but it didn't spray in such a satisfying cloud as did the Vileda. The cloths on the end go in the washing machine and come up really clean. I have a spare one so I can change it after use (my floor gets quite dirty). It doesn't get the floor as clean as a mop and bucket but much less hassle. It would be perfect if your floor was smooth; ours is textured so is a pain to wash (but shows less footprints etc).

thewavesofthesea · 03/04/2016 06:41

I have loved reading this thread. I particularly love the magnetic cupboard door and magnetic jars. Do you need a labelling machine to label the jars Grin
My favourite item is my Kmix - I spent a long time debating if I wanted a mixer with more functionality or one that was pretty. Pretty was a priority, I won't lie!

You can imagine how excited I was when they started to use them on GBBO instead of the KitchenAid.

I believe this thread MUST be in classics.

WhattaMunter · 03/04/2016 07:36

Marking spot.

I love my new cordless Dyson more than my husband.

Fact.

WhattaMunter · 03/04/2016 07:40

I want to sex-up my utility room with stuff like broom and mop brackets (for back of door storage) and other door storage for recycling bag rolls.

IKEA or Lakeland?
I'm going TODAY (rubs thighs in gleeful anticipation) Grin

dementedma · 03/04/2016 07:44

I want a utility room.

WhattaMunter · 03/04/2016 07:47

I also obsess over Pinterest and their housekeeping storage hacks, utility room and pantry organisation.

I'm going to plan my next house around pantry and utility room.

londonrach · 03/04/2016 07:47

I think this thread should come with a warning! Ive got a big shopping list too now! I really do try and avoid lakeland but they keep sending their catalogues and sometimes it comes with money off....

WhattaMunter · 03/04/2016 07:49

When I say utility room, it's more like an outside cupboard where my boiler goes. I've managed to stack the washing machine and tumble on top of each other so it counts as a utility room.

Bought the stackable recycling bins yesterday and put up wooden shelves. Want more storage ideas though.

Pseudo341 · 03/04/2016 08:08

My favourite thing at the moment is my new tumble dryer. We had one of the ones that was subject to the hotpoint recall and got a new one for 60 quid. It takes an 8kg load like my washing machine so I'm not overloading it any more. And it has a moisture sensor so you don't have to guess timings, you just set it to dry stuff and it does. Takes half the time my old one did. I also haven't ironed in years, except for very occasionally doing evening wear, just hang everything up still warm from the dryer, my DD's school uniform looks as good as anyone elses.

I have a flash powermop because my hands don't work well enough to squeeze a trigger easily on something like the vileda. You have to buy the right refill bottles for it and the pads are disposable which annoys me. It is good though, I actually do mop occasionally now.

I also have the handheld dyson because we bought the biggest most powerful one they had on the request of our cleaner but the suction was so strong I couldn't push it. The handheld is wonderful.

I got a big concertina style sewing box for Christmas that I love. Not that I actually sew much any more, but I do enjoy everything being in neat little compartments.

My waffle maker. I'm addicted to waffles Grin

Afreshstartplease · 03/04/2016 08:09

Really tempted by cordless Dyson right now

How easy is it to charge without wall mounting

bettyberry · 03/04/2016 08:14

Quilted effect mason jars. They were on sale in Lakeland so I bought loads (both sizes) and tidied up my spice cupboard. It looks so pretty and I stuck blackboard labels on the lids. I always buy larger bags of spices from Asian supermarket. They just about fit in a jar!

I don't have much modern stuff. I like vintage items and 70s ceramics. Blues mostly.

Joseph and Joseph bin wth all the compartments and compost caddy. That is on my list next. Currently use a bin bag that sits on the floor. I need to fix that! I'm

And my hallway storage. B&Q do a range of cube shelving called konnect. I sat down last night with graph paper and mapped out a storage plan for all the shoes and coats. Can't wait to put that into action! 😁

I'm very organised but live with a chaotic child so my house it trashed all the time. I hate it. I try to keep it clean but once I clean a room he trashes it while I'm doing another.

BikeRunSki · 03/04/2016 08:20

This plug, with 3 USB slots. We have one upstairs with Micro USB, mini USB and an old Apple charger; one downstairs with a mini USB and old and new Apple chargers.
