to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Oooh, that is clever Katarina!!! Grin I'm going to copy you!

shovetheholly · 06/04/2016 16:50

stealth - squeeeee will 0,3 litre boxes fit a charger?

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 17:10

I shall experiment, just for you, and report back.

Tameateen · 06/04/2016 17:51

The cordless Dyson is great, with a stick vacuum as well as the hand held attachment. No more lugging a vacuum cleaner upstairs, and now I can clean my two flights of stairs with ease and safety. Ridiculous price tag though, I'm glad I paid half price for a reconditioned one from Dyson with a 12 month guarantee from ebay.

JessieMcJessie · 06/04/2016 17:53

Thanks Katrina for explaining the steamer- was it expensive?

JessieMcJessie · 06/04/2016 17:53

My carpet shampooer from Bissell is great. It doesn't take much longer than a vacuum cleaner to use and the carpet is dry in 4 hours. I don't know how anyone with kids and pets does without one!

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 17:56

Ok, so bad news is that the first charger I grabbed didn't fit into my boxes.

Good news, however, is that mine are 0.14l boxes, not 0.3, so I reckon you would be ok with the 0.3 ones (assuming they are twice as big rather than twice as deep as the 0.14 ones)

..and just to cheer you up --even though no one has found me my continent kettle) my rainbow craft storage stack.

Jessie I got mine on sale for 100 euros, so not cheap, but worth it. Can also hand wash and steam a lot of dry clean only clothes

ridingabike · 06/04/2016 18:03

A gtech carpet cleaner. I hate my vacuum cleaner - it is really heavy and the lead gets in the way all the time and even though my house is not that large I have to keep unplugging and plugging it in because the lead is too short. The carpet cleaner is light, easy to empty and pretty effective as well.

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 18:08

Specs for the 0.3l really useful box [[http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/rub/b00_3litre.php]]

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 18:09

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 06/04/2016 22:04

Has anyone used a chenille duster [http://www.dunelm.com/product/click-n-clean-chenille-microfibre-dusting-wand-head-1000034601?searchTerm=chenille like this]? Do they pick up dust well or just move it about?

willhazboz · 06/04/2016 22:35

I bought the gateway mop.

And I remembered a few things that bring me joy...my dishwasher. Large capacity washing machine and my towel radiator. I know some people don't like the look of them but nothing better than a warm towel in winter!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 07/04/2016 00:33

Tragically looking forward to reading this thread at leisure but - I have loads of alFridge Binz whjch I use in the larder as well as the fridge. Great for keeping all the different bits in categories, so if's easy to find what you want. They're hellish expensive but you can puck them up on TK Maxx. They stock another make which I forget the name of as well. Lakeland caddies also good on my deeper shelves.

Alipally1 · 07/04/2016 01:09
  • Definitely going to buy a stamper thingy to replace the shredder that I never get out of the cupboard. I'm also desperately in need of a Joseph Joseph recycling bin to replace my perfectly good Brabantia touch bin but foolishly told DH the price - not likely to get one of those now!
  • Have to agree a silicone spatula is amazing for getting all the porridge, bolognese etc from the pan (and improves the washing up experience) …. I also have a silicone pastry brush for spreading minute drops of oil around the frying pan (curses that diet!).
  • Anything starting with 'Oxo' is wonderful - I love my Oxo salad spinner so much that I almost enjoy washing lettuce.
  • Yes the Brabantia peg bag is brilliant and I love my Brabantia rotary clothes dryer cover which is 4 years old and the never wiped Blush lines are still clean.
Lastly my Shark steam cleaner from Lakeland is a bit of heaven in a steam cloud.
shoulddobetta · 07/04/2016 01:29

MARYZ I have the smaller version of the JJ recycling bin and my family and friends think I'm mad spending nigh on 200 quid on it! I adore it. It's really practical and so much tidier (in my tiny open plan house) than having 3 bags lying around. I term all my haters that it's a 'showpiece '!!

hollinhurst84 · 07/04/2016 02:43

Heated airer from Lakeland
And the cordless dyson I got to product test from here. My dad looked longingly at it "if you don't like it..." Hmm
Yes, thanks dad you will have to prise it out my dead hands. Not happening Grin
Viakal for shower screen - no scrubbing!

SweepTheHalls · 07/04/2016 08:01

I HATE my brababtia peg bag. It doesn't hold enough pegs to put out a whole load of washing! I might need a heated airer in my new laundry room though......

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 07/04/2016 08:07

I've got the stamp in place of a shredder, it's great, just stamp the junk mail as it arrives and recycle, no more bulky shredder and waste that you can't recycle here.

Sleepyfergus · 07/04/2016 09:14

I've stumbled across this thread and added it to my watch list. I am going to save it to savour on a night on my own, with a cuppa, chocolate, credit card and INDULGE!! Love these threads. These and the organisation threads are like catnip to me.

Momamum · 07/04/2016 09:54

alipally , my friend designed that salad spinner, SmileI'll mail her you said how good it is. I've got one + lots more of the American Oxo Good Grips range she did when she worked as a designer for the company that had the Oxo contract back then. She's English, btw. The best thing I have of hers, which is probably my best thing , is a bottle stopper/opener type thingy, sorry I can't attach a pic from my phone, and I've never seen it for sale in the UK Sad, for which she won an award. Lovely looking thing, multi purpose, and it works

Woodhill · 07/04/2016 10:02

ditto cordless Dyson from Mumsnet. love it.

Alipally1 · 07/04/2016 10:50

Momamum, your friend is a genius. Design at it's best! Send her my thanks. Grin

AppleSetsSail · 07/04/2016 10:58

How does the product testing work? Does a person drop it off and pick it up?

I've been using my dyson cordless to vacuum the ASTROTURF on dry days, my garden looks pretty ace.
