to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Please share yours

I think I've found my people delurking as I can't bloody resist any longer

I adore my Karcher window vac but would love an attachment so that I can do smaller panes of glass. Can't live without the Nespresso and have tried a variety of the other makes of capsules. (Don't touch the Whittards Nespresso-compatible capsules). I've just bought some vacuum bags for storing spare duvets and the new ones with an integral zip and valve are brilliant. Thank you Lakeland.

I have a few of the J&J utensils and found that the spoon lost all its colour and went from green to black. Shame.

Love Le Parfait jars for storing all the dried goods in the pantry and get a real thrill when I walk in and see everything lined up stealth boast for walk in pantry Blush

I was inspired by the Ikea ironing station and searched on Pinterest and have found that it's a hack using a piece of Ikea furniture.

Brilliant thread. Thanks.

I feel like I need this thread to keep going forever.... My house has never been so tidy, I've thrown out so much crap! All these lovely things have inspired me!

BubsAndMoo · 06/04/2016 09:44

Re-organising my under sink cupboard today and thought I'd share this joyful piece of household crap Grin

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00NWGAFL8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have it on the inside of the cupboard door, and neatly folded (colour coded) microfibre cloths live on top, kitchen roll underneath and bottle of general purpose spray cleaner hooked over the side, all handy for mopping up spills/cleaning sides down. When the cloths are dirty they get thrown in a little basket in the cupboard for washing.

I actually do clean the sides down more often since setting this little system up. So the kitchen is cleaner, and feels brighter, so I feel happier, and life is a little bit nicer.

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 10:57

You're all evil.

Since I do actually need to get some work done this week today, I am place marking to come back.

I ready knew I needed a label maker. Now I know I need a brabantia peg bag too.

Can someone assure me that one or more of the wonderful tin openers featured does actually last and doesn't mind going in the dishwasher? While you're at it, if you can find a kettle which is guaranteed not to dribble all over the place when pouring, that would be an actual genuine need.

In return I will post a picture of the DC's my rainbow coloured triple tower of Really Useful boxes and drawers which is our official craft storage. Promise.

This woman is an inspiration. www.ana-white.com
She's a woodworker blogger from Alaska who wields an industrial sander with nonchalance. She's even built and furnished a whiole double house for her MIL/DM called the "Momplex"!

Her gorgeous furniture designs use easy-to-find cuts of wood and are available to download free (check out the laundry sorter and the garden chairs made from pallets Grin). They're also graded for difficulty, so you may catch the carpentry bug or pass it on to a willing family member.

I have these in my under sink cupboard - one is fixed to the door and one is fixed to the side of the cupboard ...www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90072648/ - I have two sizes but they only seem to do one now and I have similar ones - except more basket like (thought they were ikea but can't see them so maybe somewhere else) fitted to the inside of my bathroom storage cupboards doors.
They are fantastic - in the kitchen I have bits in them like magic sponges, laundry bleach etc and in the bathroom I have DD2s child friendly shampoos/conditioner in one and DD1 (teen) has all her various scrubs, spot treatments and moisturisers etc in another.
(I did have them for a very long time before I got round to fitting them - but then I bought a cordless drill/driver and went round attaching everything I could find in a haze of joy at the ease! I have one of these too www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/67865983/ on the back of my airing cupboard door. And that was really handy until I got my Miele - the floor attachment clips on the side with the hose attached so it is easy to store neatly anyway.

My two favourites are the Gtech AirRam, so light and cordless will clean anywhere. As its light I can run it over the sofas and quilts collecting up all the cat hairs as well as the floors. I found the dyson cordless ones to top heavy the airRam is brilliant.
The second thing is the Senseo coffee maker, I have a Nespresso machine but it's now in the loft, Senseo makes much nicer coffee with a frothy top. I only drink black coffee. I had to get a new machine from the German amazon site and I buy the pods on line from Holland, all much cheaper than Nespresso and for my taste nicer.

Penguinepenguins · 06/04/2016 12:07

I have lots of gadgets and still loving this thread :)

I love my egg n' toast... It boils eggs perfectly every time whist making toast... Can also poach eggs and warm up a muffins steam a tomato...

Lifeonthefarm · 06/04/2016 12:23

Recently had my utility done.

Had the washer and dryer built in at eye level with drawers under them for the washing baskets to go In. So I don't have to stoop as much and also so the doors open right way so can transfer easily from washer to dryer.
Had a double Belfast sink put in at my level for washing dog / baby / whatever with a tap that's on a cord and extends out of the actual tap unit.

Both things just simple but real back savers especially as just had a c section. The room itself is v small so didn't cost much to have done but we did a lot of Pinterest research and saw a lot of good ideas.

Literally makes me happy just being in there after years of mess.

I LOVE these.. It took me some time to come to terms with just how excited I was about getting Tupperware, but I am over it now, it's ok to like tupperware. I even showed my real life friends how great they were :-)

Also totally agree re Dyson Animal - although now gutted to see there is even more options! I thought I had the best one! I can't justify buying another one for at least 10 years!

look im supposed to be studying!! instead im increasing my subscribe and save order from amazon and googling lakeland things!

KatharinaRosalie · 06/04/2016 13:01

This. I hate ironing, even though I have a super fancy steam generator iron. I still always pressed iron creases into clothes, and could never get them out again, or had to fiddle for ages around some frills or whatnot. Now I have this.

Also those drawers from Muji: www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?Sec=9&Sub=38
Like msot wardrobes, mine also had deep shelves, so I could neve see what's there and didn't wear half my clothes. Those drawer boxes fit perfectly, all my clothes are Kondo-ed and I can see everything I own.

I bought myself a new table cloth (wipeable), matching place mats and coasters today from Sainsburys. Only just managed to stop myself buying a new dinner service to match as well. They are so much nicer than the ones MIL brought us years ago that have a cat on them -that looks nothing like our cat-.

unlucky83 · 06/04/2016 13:17

heifer and others - was in home bargains yesterday and noticed they had plastic containers in a set - stackable, seemingly colour coded - looked just like those Joseph Joseph ones ...no idea how much they cost etc ...but I'd imagine pretty cheap...

JessieMcJessie · 06/04/2016 13:17

What is the thing in the picture Katharina?

jlbjudy · 06/04/2016 13:21

My favourite item is my VAX carpet cleaner! I love to see how much dirt and sand i can get from my carpets.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/04/2016 13:25

It's a clothes steamer, Jessie like the ones they use at dry cleaners. You hang your garment on the hanger, slide the steam wand over it and voila, no more creases.

upthegardenpath · 06/04/2016 13:52

butterfliesinspring please tell me they still do this at Ikea - I just looked and can't find it under any section Shock and if they have discontinued it, I think I shall weep.

ButterfliesinSpring · 06/04/2016 14:12

It's a hack upthegarden it's on Pinterest how they did it, think they used a kitchen trolley from ikea to make it

My magnetic toast tongs arrived and has celebratory toast :)

shovetheholly · 06/04/2016 15:32

SOS. Can someone- please - save me from the misery of having about 300 different plug chargers that are only in use occasionally stuck in a drawer where they are constantly messy and tangled? I do not want to use bog rolls but that's the only solution I've so far found.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/04/2016 15:38

shove I use a mini tool box for that. This type.Every cord lives in a separate little drawer and you can shove it in a corner out of the way.

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2016 15:59

you can get cute little dinky mini really useful boxes in a rack just like that Draper one - I have one for sewing bits and pieces that my DM bought me.
