to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Love this thread! Yesterday was my birthday so DH agreed to a Lakeland trip, I came away with 2 sets of toast tongs and a list of many more things for home delivery...lugging them round with a newborn and toddler in the rain was taking the shine off the idea of beautiful storage!

Kidnapped · 05/04/2016 12:48

Disappointed, I need extras?

More money?

cosytoaster · 05/04/2016 13:00

Kidnapped - my dad has that one and is fine without the extras. For cleaning windows - pop a drop of washing up liquid in a bucket of water, wash windows over and then vac off (no need to rinse). It's also good for using on the shower screen and bathroom tiles and condensation on windows in winter. I borrowed dad's for a week recently and became slightly addicted to it!

Kidnapped · 05/04/2016 13:07

Thanks cosy. I'm getting it mainly for the shower screen really but will give it a go over the windows of course.

But if it has extras, I want the extras dammit. Smile

so with the Karcher you don't need extra gimics. just use washing up.liquid or vinegar?

thanks, that's helpful

candykane25 · 05/04/2016 13:31

I'm such a sheep

Just got the Lakeland magnetic toaster to ha off amazon prime.

Our toaster is in an awkward corner and I'm VI so this are such a brilliant solution.

MN improves my life again.

I love a good gadget but the thing that really brings me joy is kitchen roll. The heavy duty American stuff from Costco. Using that instead of j cloths or tea towels is true (Bio-degradable) luxury.

DisappointedOne · 05/04/2016 14:26

I borrowed my parents' karcher which came with the squirty bottle and smaller head. Assume they all did until I saw the Argos one. Am a convert but will just share theirs. Need to get the extension pole to be able to do the window over the stairs though. Don't think that's been cleaned since the house was built 14 years ago!

Makeup organisers are £3.99 in B&M at the moment.

May have demanded that DH buy me the Tefal pans from France. Who says romance is dead? Grin

Sunbeam18 · 05/04/2016 16:38

Not yet! Is it odd that I can't wait ?!

trixymalixy · 05/04/2016 17:18

I have a laundry sorter like this but in white. One bag each for whites, darks, mixed and red/pink/orange washing. It's great!

I also have an 10kg washing machine that I love as it fits so much washing in.

YY definitely worth getting a large capacity washing machine (obviously not until your old one needs replacing). There's just me and two young DC here and we have a 9kg machine. Makes life so much easier. Plus the machine recalculates water and time based upon the individual wash load so if I need to do a smaller wash I don't feel guilty.

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 05/04/2016 18:36

Oh and re the "gateway mop".
I was going to get the vileda spray mop but cheapest I could find it was £20 from Asda Direct and spare micro fibre bits £6.50 (or £3.50 on Amazon but would need to wait until ordering something else so it went over £20 limit thingy).

So instead I'm getting the beldray spray mop from b&m for just £9.99. I also found a compatible replacement microfibre head in Dunelm for just £1.25 (cardboard packaging was damaged, so half price).

Whilst in Dunelm I really wanted to buy the tea, coffee, sugar, flour, cake and laundry tins and the housekeepers box (like this - Housekeeper range ), but dm was with me and said "but do you really need them". She does not understand my need for nice tins Sad. I'll have to go back and buy them another day, when DM isn't there to judge.

livingthegoodlife · 05/04/2016 20:25

i was prompted into sorting out my understairs cupboard yesterday as a result of this thread, swimwear and hats and gloves stacked neatly into seperate ikea Sortera boxes with matching labels - joy. i also did a new recylcing sorting box and packets of crisps storage. labelled too.

i love my label maker, i can do clip art on it too! ha ha

im also ordering a new bread bin (brabantia matt stainless steel fall front, if anyone is interested).

purpleporpoise · 05/04/2016 20:37

I had a 10kg washing machine when I was single. It meant I only did 1 load a week for clothes and 1 load for bedding and towels. I'd have done more loads with a smaller drum

Milliways · 05/04/2016 22:50

I love this thread.
I too have the Ingenio pans, got them from Amazon 2 years ago for our Motorhome as I can store them all in the oven. We have the plastic and glass lids and the draining lid/colander (was a massive set). I now want another set for my kitchen. Was amazed to see them on sale in the uk now.
Our cordless Dyson was also bought for the Mororhome, as was the Dyson fan/heater. DH happy to spend money on things for the van!
We currently have a skip on the drive so need to clear all the junk!
