to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

I empty it pretty well every time I use it but it's very easy, just empty it straight into the kitchen bin.

JessieMcJessie · 04/04/2016 20:50

Hmm, I emptied mine right on top of the bit of carpet I had just bloody hoovered the other day (hadn't properly snapped the bin shit last time it was emptied Blush. DH found it hilarious, the git.

Could I nominate the Aerolatte, for hot chocolate that looks like this

Well i took the plunge and bought the V6 Animal cordless Dyson - I am ridiculously excited as it will be delivered on Wednesday and i can alternate days when i use it upstairs and downstairs ( this is a fairly big house so i dont think the charge will do it all one go).

I will keep my Henry in the utility room for big cleans but he will be used a lot less now i hope :-D

AppleSetsSail · 04/04/2016 21:13

These Dyson cordless that everyone keeps going on about, don't they need emptying an awful lot? The canister looks tiny!

It is remarkably quick and easy to empty - less than a minute.

Shock is that really just ordinary run of the mill hot chocolate? Really? And its just the areolatte that makes it look like that?!? Wow - I seriously want one of those.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 04/04/2016 21:57

Yes, heated the milk gently in a pan while frothing it, then mixed a bit of the milk into the powder, frothed again and filled from the pan.

wowfudge · 04/04/2016 22:27

I don't even use a pan with mine (M&S copy). Heat the milk in the mug in micromave, add hot chocolate powder and whisk away.

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2016 22:35

I have an Aerolatte. It is awesome. I use it for hot chocolate, and hot chocolate only. I am allergic to coffee, and WOW BETIDE anyone who tries to use it for anything other than hot chocolate, for me.

It was my only 40th birthday present "thing". We went to NYC fro 4 days, but my aerolatte is the present that keeps giving.

pocketsized · 04/04/2016 22:36

Who mentioned the perfect hand held potato masher upthread? I very much need one of them. And the JJ sink bowl...

TheBitterBoy · 04/04/2016 22:46

Ooh that aerolatte looks fab. Not sure I can justify one, based on my dolce gusto I got for Christmas.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 04/04/2016 22:52

When I'm feeling more virtuous I use the Aerolatte for green matcha tea as it's the only thing that gets it to dissolve properly.

Wow - I never get the timing right for microwave heating (I only make hot chocolate once every few weeks). Also if the cup is more than about a third full the Aerolatte makes it overflow, so all round a pan is easier for me.

BreakfastLunchPasta · 04/04/2016 23:22

I have a super cheap Le'Xpress milk frother from Amazon, I think it was about £2 but has lasted a year so far and works brilliantly.
I bought a spare from IKEA that was even cheaper, but it's still sitting in it's packaging because the Le'X is still going strong. I haven't even had to change the 2 AA batteries :)

YesThisIsMe · 04/04/2016 23:22

Hot chocolate is 30 seconds on full, stir, 30 seconds on full, stir, 30 seconds on full.

  • caveat, depends on size of mug.
ClutterofStarlings · 05/04/2016 07:15

wink1970 I've resisted nearly everything else, but I neeeed those in my life. But I can't justify dropping forty quid on Tupperware at all

LaurieFairyCake · 05/04/2016 07:37

Where's that Tupperware from?!?

I need it so bad Grin

MrsHathaway · 05/04/2016 08:43

The rainbow nesting food storage thing is also JJ - I saw it on Fake Britain as it's counterfeited a lot.

Hermit123 · 05/04/2016 08:58

I've now bought a set of stainless steel tefal pots and I didn't even know I needed new pots!!! Ordered from French Amazon as per prev advice - saved over £20 incl fast shipping. Glass and plastic lids ordered from UK Amazon. All arriving today. Very excited and hope I don't miss delivery.

RedRainRocks · 05/04/2016 09:09

I have huge gadget envy.... Envy

Just moved into a new house and need soooooo much! I have spent years, yes - years hankering after the corner kitchen cabinets with the carousels inside, you know the ones? Well.... I now have TWO! However, i do belive I shall be off to IKEA for some kitchen cupboard inserts because ugh, they're awkward. Any ingenious recommendations for 'L' shaped cupboards so I can store and stack all my pans, casserole dishes etc?

AlisonWunderland · 05/04/2016 09:17

Another one ordering Tefal from Amazonne de La France.
Many thanks to the MNer who suggested their site!

Quick question - do I have to set up a new account for amazon.fr or can I use my one from amazon.co.uk?

liquidrevolution · 05/04/2016 09:20

Only halgway through the thread but have to tell you about my drying racks in the utility room. Two pull up Ikea metal racks over the under counter fridge and two pull out instahangars on the wall over a heater. I hang things to dry and they don't need ironing. They even have special hangars that all match.

I also have a present drawer including spare presents for unexpected events. A wrapping paper drawer and a card and ribbon drawer.

Husband thinks I am mad but he hasn't bought a card apart from mine for over 5 years and i managed to produce two easter presents for his nephews when they turned unexpectedly.

candykane25 · 05/04/2016 10:50

So I've just bought the jar her window vac and two cheaper handheld steamers. We already have a steamer mop but I've now bought a small one for clothes to get out creases instead of ironing, and another one for the bathrooms.

It's made me very happy though.

SquirrelledAway · 05/04/2016 12:29

I've just invested in the Oxo Good Grips window squeegee - it made a lovely job of the shower screen this morning - and I'm a big fan of the Really Useful boxes.

My best buy was a Polti Vaporetto steam cleaner - fantastic for wooden and tiled floors.

I've always found JosephJoseph kitchenware really disappointing - I gave away a set of Index chopping boards because they scored so badly after a single use, and a friend had the kitchen utensils which stained very quickly

Kidnapped · 05/04/2016 12:38

Squirrelled, we had 2 of the Joseph Joseph chopping boards. They were both scored badly very quickly and one of them split into two. We still have the other one but I wouldn't buy another.

Anyways, I thought I was cured of gadget addiction but I have cracked and bought the Karcher window vac. Half price at Argos

Sigh.

DisappointedOne · 05/04/2016 12:41

You don't get the extras with that window vac though. Don't you need to buy the squidgy cleaner bottle and smaller head?
