to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Resistance is futile Grin

My dh loves the Karcher window vac and I have a drying rail that is fixes to the wall then folds flat against the wall when not in use from Lakeland. So useful and don't need airer up

DisappointedOne · 03/04/2016 14:49

swede and carrot mash is how I get more veggies in my diet. I can easily get 5 portions with a roast

I don't count root veg as vegetables. Wink

God, this thread is dangerous.
You all have me planning a 2.5 hour drive to Lakeland to wander around, dazed/gurning/eyes pinned etc, whilst spending my entire life's savings.

I love my kmix (it's far too heavy to move often, but fortunately looks beautiful on the counter top), my bean-to-cup coffee machine, and my duck egg kitchen units with oak counter tops.
I also love the big blue IKEA bags, great for storing clothes/laundry/using as travel bags to squish into the roofbox. Also, perfect length for yoga mats.

Things I now want you BASTARDS..
A cordless Dyson
Toaster tongs
A beautiful compost caddy
Some magnetic paint and spice tins
A larder

Breakfast...you can order online. Its safer as they sell bits you miss in the catalogue and see in the shop. Really avoid them in the sale....its half price

unlucky83 · 03/04/2016 15:23

Just catching up - but peg bags - I prefer mine.
It was like other things - I knew what I wanted but couldn't find it in the shops so I made my own....it is just two squares of material sewn together BUT its massive advantage is that it has too long strings so you can tie round your waist...like an apron with a pouch. The pegs are always to hand - you do have to make it quite deep/not over fill or they will fall out if you bend down - although it has a flap to cover the top too (and actually I don't bend down - after dropping too many socks/trailing sheets on muddy grass I now empty the machine in a basket then sort it on the kitchen table (separate out pants and socks etc) and the peg out stuff gets draped over one shoulder and I peg it out from there)
And if you can't be bothered to tie it round your waist it has a loop to hang it on the ends of a rotary airier (when I had a normal clothes line it had a plastic clothes hanger sewed into the top so you could hang it on the line with that, but when it broke I decided the loop was better... and of course the loop is handy to hang it up to store ...

What's so good about magnetic paint? I don't understand.

WhattaMunter · 03/04/2016 15:38

Well, I went to Lakeland and it was RUBBISH!

No Mop/brush mount thingie for my door, no basket storage thingie for my recycling bags. Nothing! Nada! Zilch!

Should have headed in opposite direction to IKEA! Envy

You beat me to it MrsH - we have some of those too.

BoatyMacBoatFace · 03/04/2016 16:52

I LOVE this thread!

I've just been and tidied my kitchen cupboards. DP has offered to buy the Ingenio pans if I Freecycle my 10 stainless saucepans but I just can't as they are all perfectly fine, they just take up so much room. Very tempting though.

I can vouch for the Amazon heated airer, I love mine and use it every day. Also the window vac.

For marked shower screens, clean them well with Limelight or similar, then use car waterless wax like Showroom Shine or this cheap one from the Range with a microfibre cloth. It hides any marks you can't remove and makes the screen really shiny - plus the water runs off it in a very satisfying way when you shower.

My DGM bought me this cosmetics caddy for my make up and it's excellent as I can see everything and I don't lose my mascara or brushes. It's only £15. I washed all of my make up brushes yesterday and tidied my make up, I keep going into the spare room to look at it Grin

Does anyone else find that if they pack things away in boxes/storage they just don't use them any more? I need things on show so I use them.

pearlylum · 03/04/2016 16:57

My favourite kitchen gadget is my Sabatier knife. I bought it 32 years ago and it has been my faithful friend, well sharpened, it has taught me how to chop. Men come and go, knives stay true.

BorderTerrierControl · 03/04/2016 17:00

This thread rocks Grin My place is borrower sized so I get all excited about space saving storage ideas. I think I need some of those Ikea herb racks, so I can have some right way up as shelves and others wrong way up as shelves with a rail below...

I have a two tier dish rack/drainer (no space for a dishwasher) and it gives me the happy every time I do the dishes. Also those little metal shelves from Ikea, like the lakeland ones only they cost £2 not £20. Get two and you can screw em together to make a wee shelf on the counter top, tidying all the clutter into one place. Happy happy.

BorderTerrierControl · 03/04/2016 17:01

And pictures, so you too can appreciate the usefulness. Grin

Can strongly recommend Lakeland ceramic knives, the black ones. I've had one about 2 years and it's as sharp as the day I bought it.

Also have these... acrylic holders, I have one for earrings and one for cosmetic bits and bobs. They are cheap as chips in TK Maxx. All different sorts

This thread is like porn to me

Penguinepenguins · 03/04/2016 17:54

I have a folder called organisation porn on my laptop - it's full of this stuff :)

TheBitterBoy · 03/04/2016 18:27

I have one of those acrylic holders from TKMaxx for my makeup, I love it as it has made me re-assess what I actually use and bin the rest.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 03/04/2016 18:30

DH thought the cordless vac was a great idea! ::rejoices::
