to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

My new favourite thing is my Joseph Joseph bread bin. I replaced an old steel roll top one that barely held anything because of the shape of it, and this new one has a smaller footprint, holds more and looks pretty. I have a little smile at it every time I walk through the kitchen.

I also want the £200 JJ bin. I had a play with it in John Lewis the other weekend, DH had to drag me away, he said it was worse than trying to get DS out of The Entertainer!

YesThisIsMe · 03/04/2016 08:31

Right, I've cracked, I'm off to John Lewis to buy that pegbag as soon as they open (and a sandwich toaster as per the sandwich toaster thread).

londonrach · 03/04/2016 08:37

Dont know how i forgot this. I use it daily. Ive given it as wedding presents as part of other items...it was £2.97 but now £2.20. No house should be without one! www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50153180/

londonrach · 03/04/2016 08:38

Oh bitter...dont show me that i have my eye on a red number in john lewis!!!!

magimedi · 03/04/2016 08:45

Under my sink I have 3 bins - like this

One is for wet trash, one for recycling & the last has cleaning stuff in it.

They weren't as expensive, as they are now about 8 years old, but I love not having a free standing bin in the kitchen.

tibbawyrots · 03/04/2016 08:54

Am wondering if I can justify Lakeland's entire store arriving as being unexpected birthday presents from my estranged family... 😈

nattyknitter · 03/04/2016 08:57

I went for the Ikea version for the pull out bins.

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70246112/

I have 2 of the sliding rails under the sink and 4 of the black bin caddies with lids in. It makes sorting the recycling really easy and I installed them myself. Took about 15 minutes to do both.

I have a large dog who can flip up bins lids and worked out pedal bins long ago, so this stopped any chaos going on with the freestanding bins.

ClutterofStarlings · 03/04/2016 08:59

Karcher window vac. Just bought the basic one for window condensation, now do all the shower tiles with it and sook away the condensation from the toilet cistern so there's no puddles on the floor.
It's a pleasure as it just works, it's not fiddly, just does what it should without complaining or needing special conditions.

TheBitterBoy · 03/04/2016 09:09

Londonrach you won't regret it! Mine currently has a full size sliced loaf, pack of crumpets, pack of pancakes and six pittas in it, not squashed, and the lid still goes on properly. Ooh and the little ledge inside that the lid sits on is soooo satisfying.

froddyanddaffy · 03/04/2016 09:10

I can't believe no one has mentioned this:

www.lakeland.co.uk/p21736/Lakeland-Dry-Soon-Range?gclid=CNiw-uqB8ssCFdQaGwod_jcDkQ&src=gpsol&s_kwcid=AL!49!3!100595013371!b!!g!!%2Blakeland%20%2Bdryer&ef_id=VMgWFQAAAK09FPZu:20160403080818:s

It's changed my life and I think I would leave my (wonderful) h for it if I had to choose. GrinWink

Dancergirl · 03/04/2016 09:23

yes what's the JL peg bag? I need a new one.

Catsize · 03/04/2016 09:27

Thanks to you lot I have just spent £53 on two washing up bowls - one for home, one for the caravan.

The JosephJoseph microwave rice cooker is our gadget du jour.

I was always cooking too much rice and my partner overcooked it. No longer! We now say 'shall we put X with magic rice?'. Has a very satisfying lid closing rice paddle thing going on too.

LemonRedwood · 03/04/2016 09:39

I cracked and bought the gateway mop.

God, I want a £200 bin

PuntasticUsername · 03/04/2016 09:52

Omg yes the Brabantia peg bags, they are great. We have two. We clip them to diagonal corners of the rotary washing line when hanging out - then you always have pegs within reach, either to the left or the right of you.

AlisonWunderland I concur with pp - no pouring lip on the Tefal Ingenio pans but they are pretty good for pouring neatly, usually. It helps that they are good-quality non-stick, as all food just slides smoothly off them.

I do indeed like scraping stuff out of bowls with silicone spatulas - it's so satisfyingly EFFICIENT, they just get EVERYTHING. The only problem is that with cake mix etc, they are actually TOO efficient, there's none left for the cook Sad

I also love Oxo GoodGrips bag cinches - great for resealing bread bags once the original seal has lost all its sticky.

Joseph Joseph compact can opener it's just beautifully designed, it works really well and it doesn't take up much room in my overcrowded drawer.

LemonRedwood · 03/04/2016 10:10

I'm not usually allowed to peruse the Lakeland website unsupervised but DH is next to me right now, so even if he's asleep it counts.

I've just bought these.

I wonder what I'll do with the 56 reusable shopping bags currently under the stairs?

AlisonWunderland · 03/04/2016 10:17

I have always told my DH that buying me unsolicited kitchenware is a divorceable offence.
However I WANT need those Ingenio pans for my birthday!

(I wonder if I can be like the Queen and two birthdays so that I don't have to wait until Spetember?)

ButterfliesinSpring · 03/04/2016 10:37

I forgot this. This brings me joy. I'd like a prettier colour but one day...

It opens lids. I NEVER struggle to open a tight jar Grin

Oh I'm going to HAVE to get a cordless Dyson after this thread. We already have a lovely Miele and then I bought a Neato, which is OK, but actually I think the cordless vac would have been a better buy. I've been keeping quiet about it because 3 vacuums seemed excessive; unlucky83 has put me straight there Grin

I also want a Bright Side card organiser but they seem to be out of stock everywhere Sad

DD's toy shelves spark joy for me, they are just boring shelves but it's such a relief to have some of her stuff out of our main living space!

I LOVE Lakeland. So many things from there bring me joy. Wrap master cling film dispenser, no more ripping and tearing followed by swearing as I can't get an entire piece of cling film off the roll and actually manage to cut it.

Strawberry de seeder. Actually additive, I buy strawberries to use it Grin

LettingAgentNightmare · 03/04/2016 11:19

Addictive, not additive.

MrsHathaway · 03/04/2016 11:51

Bike I see your plug converter and raise you USB charging sockets straight into the mains ...

Geek central chez Hathaway.

BareBearBum · 03/04/2016 11:55

I love this thread!
Already do the thing with the bin liners ( keeping them on the roll )
Have a shower curtain pole across the walls in my hot press to hang wet clothes ( they dry quicker in there )
Have good storage solutions like the bin in the cupboard, and have magnetic blackboard paint etc, but this thread is dangerous for me.
Now coveting the Hoover/steam mop despite owning a Gtech, cordless Dyson a full sized Dyson and a Karcher, yes I have a problem!

also keen on the handle free pans and the instant pot
