Seeing as the sun is shining I decided to start my spring clean today! Aiming to do a deep clean of one room every couple of days to fit around work and family life. Anyone fancy joining me for encouragement and general chat about progress?! Smile

I am so ill (poor me) my nose is running like a fugitive Sad the quinoa bean thing sounds good quick - I think the next few days will be ready meals and beans on toast as I am not fit to cook, unless my family fancy sneezy pasta!
I am off to bed, might take a G & T with me to help me sleep (medicinal purposes only on the absence of Whiskey)

Ah poor you grumpy, sending get well vibes! Sounds really rotten. Hope you sleep well and feel better tomorrow. I'll be off to bed soon myself, was out all day with a DC and friends. I dunno, think I overdid it. I've got my weird sore throat/legs like dead weights/muzzy head thing I get from time to time. And I'm absolutely freezing. I really hope I'm not coming down with something. Confused

Hello Quick yes a little better thanks, on the mend.
House a tip at the moment, but not much longer, work nearly done. There is lots do but my partner is driving me a bit mad with 'strategic incompetence' and appears to not know how to do anything today by way of helping, I am also trying to work while fielding daft questions (where is the ham?) gaaah! You feeling any better?

Hi grumpy, glad you are on the mend and that the work on your house is nearly done. I'm sure you'll be relieved to get back to normality! I'm not feeling brilliant to be honest, I'm wondering if a trip to the doctors is in order. I've not been right for such a long time now but it's a few niggles and general crappy feeling rather than a distinct issue. Confused
With regard to spring cleaning the garden has been tackled but I need a few runs to the tip now with the stuff that's accumulated! Garage is full of basically junk!

Grin whether I get through it is another issue! But I work best to a list. We moved in at the end of January and everything has been shoved away but now needs to be sorted and tidied.

Finished my room and the bathroom. About to face the horror of the pantry.

Where has everyone gone?!
jan how you getting on? Ticked much off that huge list yet?!
How's the work and illness grumpy?
I'm keeping on top of things, sorting little bits when I get a chance, but with the DC on holiday still I'm mostly tied up with their entertainment and the non stop eating!!!

Still here Quick not forgotten the thread, but I have been really unwell and the house is still utter chaos so there is no point in trying to do anything but keep it hygienic - I have stuff piled everywhere waiting to go back to their rightful homes when all the work is done. I a a bit despondent to be honest. I will be back in earnest next week!

Ah grumpy sorry to hear you've been so unwell. How are you feeling health wise now? When you've got work going on you've got to just think forget it! It will pass, normality will resume! Look after yourself this week and see what next week brings.

I am on the mend Quick just wiped out from this virus that won't shift completely and overwhelmed by the chaos in my house plus my workload. Things will be easier next week when the children are back in school and I can get back to normal, even my clean washing feels dusty with the work going on!
Another early night beckons I think.
You wait, by next Friday I will be a super organised domestic ninja again!

Evening All,

The laundry built up to a mountain again, but I've reduced it to zero again - it's not going to beat me! Did a couple of jobs at the weekend, put up a picture and fixed an item of furniture, I realise that's not much in itself but I've been meaning to do those two tasks for ages, they're right next to each other so every time I go into that room it's nice to see them! Cleared out the kitchen drawer, found loads of keys but have no idea what they're for. I've put them all on the one keyring, I guess I'll throw them out at some point if I really can't trace them. Although the house could do with another good clean, it's definitely staying clearer than it was, so I'm going to soldier on with this. It sounds like everyone else has made great strides as well, being on a thread like this one is definitely motivational. I'll try and get some cleaning done tomorrow, also I intend to get my tax return done. Have a nice evening everyone.

How's everyone getting on? I need to back into the frame of mind I had when the thread started, I'm beginning to lapse now, though the rooms I've cleared of clutter are absolutely staying clear. They need regular dusting and the floors need cleaning of course, but they don't get into such a mess any more. I'm resolutely keeping on top of the laundry and I guess it's often dirty laundry that accounts for a lot of mess build-up, so with all the clutter gone and the laundry no longer piling up, I'm definitely finding it easier to avoid getting snowed under. I'll have to have another Spring-cleaning marathon like I did before. Has everyone else managed to get all the things done that they intended to?

Hi london, like you I'm finding it so much easier to keep on top of the house now! With the clutter gone and everything clean it's just a case of a quick once over. Also I've noticed the rest of the family are being tidier! The house looks much nicer and it's spurred us on to buy some much needed new storage and other bits and pieces.
I still need to tackle the conservatory, and the kitchen needs a good go over-probably be my Monday morning job. And I need to order some waste baskets as with one in every room there is no need for wrappers/tissue/other junk to be left anywhere!

Hello Everyone! Is anyone still around? I'm getting back on the Spring cleaning this week. Todays task is clear the washing mountain! I stood and ironed all the school/work uniforms last night so that's sorted for the week. Enjoying the quiet that comes with an empty house! Anyone joining me?

Hi Quick I would love to but my house is still in disarray, work not finished yet and I have a stiff workload to plough through. However, the towels are in the machine, recycling in the correct bin and kitchen clean. My bedroom is a total tip, full of 'stuff' that I have had to move from the bathroom, not long now though! I hate this chaotic feeling but now the children are back at school it should be easier to get on.

Hi grumpy, hope the work will come to an end soon and you can get yourself straight again! Not encouraging me in the bathroom renovation at all I must say!!! Just remember it will pass, it won't be in disarray forever! Hope you get through your workload. I'm off to hang wash out and and get another on before I head to work myself!

Hello!

Sorry this fell off my threads list.

Everything on the list is done bar sorting clothes and my new study. They're now top of the list.

We're also talking about moving DD into her own room but that means re jigging all the DC.

Been following you ladies since the beginning but really struggling with inspiration, I've tried writing a list but I now refuse to look at it because if I can't see it I don't have to do it Wink

I have a 5 year old boy just gone back to school today, a 18month old toddler girl and a newborn girl.

Please please tell me how you find the motivation and also how old are your little ones? X

Grumpyoldblonde · 11/04/2016 13:08

Hi Candlefairy You have a newborn (huge congrats) so housework is not your priority at the moment, give yourself a break at the moment with such young children, mine are preteen so busy with friends and can help a lot (when bribed!)
You will be doing well if you keep a decent level of hygiene and a vaguely tidy house. If your children are good sleepers then maybe take on a small task a day (quick wipe of the bathroom/hoover living area) but go easy on yourself. If you do want any time saving tips then come back and I am sure I or someone can help.

Hi Candlefairy, I would definitely echo what Grumpy said - you have a newborn, go easy on yourself, and Congratulations! My children are 6 and 4. I don't always feel much motivation, it's so disheartening when you've got it looking nice and then the kids mess it all up again. I'm certainly glad this thread was started, it made such a difference knowing I would be updating others on my progress. As I mentioned upthread, it's become a lot easier to maintain the tidiness since I've had a big clear-out and also got on top of the laundry, though the dining-room (where they do all their drawing, etc) seems to be a permanent lost cause! Maybe I'll focus on that room today....

Hi candlefairy congrats on the newborn and in all seriousness forget spring cleaning! I wish I had a newborn, perfect reason to avoid housework! Honestly I'd not Spring cleaned properly since having my DD 4 years ago! I'd obviously kept on top of the house in terms of normal cleanliness and hygiene but not real deep cleaning. My best time saving tip is to clean bathroom whilst older ones are in the bath. That way you are there, still chatting but giving everything the once over. I also always tidy round before bed, as it only takes ten mins if no DC are hanging off of you! But really, eat some Cake, and rest when you can!!!
london snap! My dining room sounds just like yours! Art stuff out everyday. Hmm
