Seeing as the sun is shining I decided to start my spring clean today! Aiming to do a deep clean of one room every couple of days to fit around work and family life. Anyone fancy joining me for encouragement and general chat about progress?! Smile

Hi all. I got 4 cupboards, the sink, the cutlery holder, the drainer, the draining rack and the washing machine dispenser done in an hour and a half today. The washing machine dispenser was truly disgusting! I also put away my shopping delivery and I need to do a couple of loads of laundry, but that's my lot for today.

Good work CremeEggThief
My paperwork is done, I feel so much lighter now I have got rid of all those old bills and bits of rubbish from 1996! I have more space now the drawers are not crammed with old receipts. I popped out and bought a new sealed money tin to start saving £2 coins again and done some proper work.
I feel like a super ninja domestic empress Smile

Managed to find time to strip down my cooker and give everything a good scrub. Looks so much better! Well done to everyone who made progress today. Hoping tomorrow brings me renewed energy to get the dining room finished off and give the kitchen a good go over.

Hope you don't mind me joining - I have come for inspiration :) started my spring cleaning last weekend, but am completing very slowly - have found myself happily pregnant - at bloody last :) as a result however I am exhausted! I'm sure I would feel better if some spring cleaning was done, felt great cleaning out one cupboard yesterday but then I needed a nap :)

Am hoping to find energy returns soon, as I love spring cleaning :) and I am also here to inspire myself to stop eating biscuits and get back to it!

Can I play? We are moving very shortly and I'm not olanning

Report
MrsSteptoe · 22/03/2016 21:47

I'm definitely not olanning.

However, I'm also not PLANNING to clean the house - but I do want to put clean things in boxes, not greasy sticky kitchen stuff that hasn't been used in years and has been hanging up collecting grease and dust. Hoover books. Get rid of all redundant paperwork. That type of thing.

Could probably do with a team of running mates...

Good morning all, Hi to mrssteptoe and penguin, oh, yes, early pregnancy fatigue, that is a special kind of tiredness (a bit like CFS actually as we mentioned upthread)
I have work to do later, but just a general tidy round will keep the house looking just fine. I won't have time to do anything more than that I don't think. I have a bit more to take to the charity shop and I might be able to fit that in.
Anyone have a particular plan today?

MrsSteptoe · 23/03/2016 08:21

Have to go out for part of the day, but I intend to put all non-essential kitchen utensils through a hot wash in the dishwasher (we have very few drawers, so they're in open worktop pots by the hob, and attract loads of grease and dust so the lesser used ones will be sticky) and package them up, ready to go into the packing boxes. Then I'll separate out all the annoying little items from the few kitchen drawers we do have, all of which I soaked in soapy water yesterday to get rid of sticky kitchen drawer grot, into categorized ziplock bags ready for the move, so it's not just a big bag of mess at the other end.

I really should have name changed for this thread. It exposes all my clean-obsessed and order-obsessed nature, a nature that has been largely driven out by the less scrupulous native practices of MrSteptoe.

That'll probably be the only thing I get done today!

Good morning ladies - thank you for the welcome :)

Of course no worries on asking I'm super duper early in the game, only a week in bit nervous following MC in Novmeber but very excited - found out Sunday tiredness was one of the reasons I tested early as was so out of character :) apps are saying 2nd December but expect earlier than this.

I am off work at the moment so plenty of time for naps and spring cleaning in-between! I'm actually already feeling very enthusiastic after reading through the thread!

I think I'm going to tackle fun spring cleaning jobs today, my sewing room could do with a good sort through and have some boxes (wonderful IKEA things that look neat from the outside - I'm such a what can't be seen isn't messy type DP is opposite) that could do with a rummage through - it also needs the skirtings and Windows cleaned so the plan is a beautiful sewing room by the end of the day.

Rest of house is tidy and presentable so can spend a day in there quite happily :) must not get distracted and start sewing!

It's lovely to meet you all

Congrats penguine!
Unfortunately I'm at work until 5, then going to view a nursery so will only get a few loads of washing done and a quick tidy round tonight I think! However, my plan for the weekend is to

Strip and hoover the sofa,
Hoover under the sofas
Wash skirting boards/paintwork downstairs
Deep clean downstairs loo
Organise and clear out shoe/coat area
Clean carpets

Then all I'll have to do is deep clean the kitchen and clean all downstairs windows, and downstairs will be fresh as a daisy. I figure upstairs will take two weekends, so by the end of April my house will be tip top! It'll then be time to start on the gardens... Its never ending!

That sounds wonderful Damsen I do love it when it's all done! Inspiring me already love it!!

Think I may get someone in to do the outside Windows this time round, although I quite like doing them... Oh gosh I do need to get out more :)

Haha penguine I am forever saying I need to get out more! Honestly the pleasure I take in sorting and cleaning is actually very very sad!!!
Anyway morning everyone! My plans today revolve around textiles, I appreciate that is sounding contrived! Basically I've decided as I have a full free day (yay!) that I am going to clear the washing pile, strip beds and remake, put all washing away, sort through the kids clothes and my clothes. Hoping that there's enough that fits the kids that I don't need to buy any new summer stuff as we are having to tighten our belts! Tidy airing cupboard and utility room. I've made a start by boil washing tea towels and cloths, which I like to tumble dry for extra hygiene and am about to get towels on a hot wash also! I've also got some curtains that need adjusting so I may dig them out and think about them for about the hundredth time, do nothing and put them away again Grin

I love it too! Find it incredibly therapeutic :) plus I feel a tremendous amount of satisfaction looking at a job well done, I also like putting together furniture

DP doesn't understand any of this and would rather pay someone to do it...

Right I'm off to get stuck in to see what hidden gems I have hiding in my sewing room :)

Hi everyone, and a big welcome to the newcomers!

My laundry basket is now empty apart from a few socks and pants, I realise it won't stay this way for long but I intend to try and keep on top of it. Yesterday was sunny so I took all the toys out of the garage, threw out any rubbish that was in the garage (rusty nails, other stuff that was beyond redemption) and am now in the process of sorting through the toys. I'll clean up anything that can go to the charity shop, I'm hoping I'll be able to get rid of loads. It's more my own attachment to the toys that's a hindrance, my kids aren't bothered about the baby stuff, but I look at it and think "oh, I remember her playing with this, wasn't she cute?!" I'm really hoping I'll be able to let go, once the garage is done I need to get up to the loft, that's full of bouncers, high chairs, cots, and sackfuls of baby clothes! Does anyone else have this problem with their baby stuff?

Report
Grumpyoldblonde · 23/03/2016 11:39

2 more bags have gone to the charity shop.
I didn't really struggle with baby stuff, I have kept a tiny top, one sleepsuit a favourite pram toy (plus new baby cards and letters) these are kept in a pretty hat box. Everything else I was pleased to pass on to friends, I liked thinking it was being used by others and lots of clothes went to charity. Having a new baby often means a short supply of cash so I liked to think someone was pleased to find pretty clothes for their own baby. I don't have much problem getting rid of things tbh - I know a lot of people struggle with it, but I have photos than mean I can look back at certain toys and clothes.

I really need to do my loft, it is mostly old tins of paint and Xmas decs which I want to cull (old broken stuff) but I cant do that alone.
Still need a run to the tip but again, will need help.

Confession time-I've done nothing really today! Couple of washes, general clean and tidy of downstairs and then I realised today would be my only free day for the next 3 weeks. So I watched a film on Netflix and had a few chocs from a box I had saved! Then had a bath and washed my hair which has spent the week so far tied up in a very messy bun. Will get back on the spring cleaning tomorrow promise! Grin

Spring cleaning tasks: I cleaned the pantry cupboard, which was the last one in the kitchen. I also cleaned and dried all the kitchen splashback tiles and the outside of the microwave and machine washed our lunch bags. I try to do this every half term holiday.
Regular cleaning: vacuumed and mopped downstairs, cleaned the bathroom, 2 loads of laundry and recycling.

This is all now until next week, as I'm busy tomorrow and going away for the Easter bank holiday weekend. Still to do:
Clean all doors and woodwork inside (dreading this).
Clean the oven.
Dust all the house, including ceilings of cobwebs.
Clean upstairs windows.
Clean outside front door.

My plan for today is really to catch up with the jobs I'd been putting off this week. So general tidy downstairs first, followed by real good sort out of utility and then wash all floors. I have a friend visiting later so won't be able to do anything this afternoon. What's everyone else hoping to get done today?

Right, commitment plan for the day! - pack up the kitchen utensils we never very rarely use, bin/charity shop a load of stuff from the hall cupboard...
Hopefully get DS to go through his toy shelves and bin/charity shop what he doesn't want (added to the list in a triumph of hope over experience)
Supervise revision Cake Brew

Today I would like to have a really good go at my kitchen and/or main bathroom

Both need a good deep clean and a de clutter

I hate my kitchen it gets so bad it gets me down

Which to tackle first?

Bathroom is a quicker job but kitchen is more of an issue?
