Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

Hello, can I join? I have just started a home and a work bujo. The work one is very exciting as I tend to just run around winging it, with a constant feeling that there was something really important I should have been doing.

My home one is less about tasks as I like my Google calander for that. It is more a place to put all the stuff I keep in my head like saving plans, list of birthdays, what books I am reading.

Hoping I can keep it up and don't lose the habit. I am terrible at letting things like this slide!

AprilShowers16 · 25/02/2016 20:37

Hello just reading this thread and looking at the link. Does anyone use this system at work? I'm so overwhelmed with to do lists and deadlines I don't know where to start and wonder if this might be a good way of having it organised on paper

(Obviously still have to actually do the work!)

ZappDingbat · 25/02/2016 20:37

Tbf Tehlu, lazy disorganised and easily distracted is my natural state. I often dream about becoming a hermit where I can be all of those things without feeling anyone's disapproving eyes on me. Smile

On topic, I have started using different coloured highlighters to mark my tasks as the day/week progresses. I have realised i am a very visual person, and the little boxes with different markings just blur into one another at the moment.

I vary my log from daily to a few days at a time or weekly depending on what's going on and how much I want to get done. Eg, on a work day, my main aims are to get healthy food on the table, packed lunches made, one load of laundry done, kitchen cleared and to have us all where we need to be at the right time with the right kit. (Every evening has me taxi-ing to clubs with the kids)

On a weekend, if we have little on in terms of social stuff, I do a long list or brain dump of all the things I would like to get done. Some things are essential, some desirable, some one offs and some that repeat.

When doing a log that covers a few days or a week, I found it easier to use eg a pink highlighter for jobs that have been done. A blue for those migrated onto another log, yellow for no longer need to be done. Then I can be sure that I haven't missed any off when moving on to another log. And it also adds a bit of colour as I am not decorating mine to minimise distraction. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else might find it easier too.

BYOSnowman · 25/02/2016 21:31

So I have been using the two ribbons and two plastic paper clip arrows but these are too bulky

Any suggestions on a reusable tab I can use to mark out my habit tracker!!

Devora · 25/02/2016 22:07

AprilShowers, I'm using mine to cover home and work. For me, the whole point is not to have multiple lists all over the place, but a system where everything is brought together. After all, it's all stuff that has to be done on a given day, no matter what it relates to.

I have a separate page for each of my projects where I have written the key deliverables and milestones. I copy these over to my monthly log. Then on each of my daily log pages (I use a page per day) I have work tasks and home tasks. This probably works well for me because my home and work life do tend to bleed into each other - I sometimes do home tasks at work, and I usually do work in the evening at home.

Having said that, like someone on the first thread, I still like to keep a separate paper diary. I often have a lot of meetings on any given day, and it's just easier to keep them noted in a standard diary, then check it every evening and add into the BuJo my meetings for the next day. My BuJo and my diary are the same size and colour-coordinated (Blush) so they sit together nicely in my handbag.

WhoisLucasHood · 26/02/2016 00:04

Signing in. My first successful Bujo month. I love it. Here is less stress and a more organised and cleaner house. I've been a member of fly lady for years and too many little diaries but this really does work for me. I'm thinking about what I'm going to switch around for March. I've already started my Feb review page.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 07:24

BYOSnowman I've seen tabs that are, I think, like post it notes. It would have been during a happy skip through Amazon's stationery department and may have shown up on the page for the plastic arrow tabs as something "other people bought after viewing this page"

SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 07:27

sticky repositionable tabs

whatsonyourplate · 26/02/2016 07:59

BYO I use some similar to the ones Soup linked to (found them in DH's old brief case!). If you search 'sticky tabs' there are loads, including really cute animal ones.

mercifulTehlu · 26/02/2016 08:17

I'm going to use mine for work too, in that I'll put work-based 'things to do' in there, plus important dates. However, I will have to have a teacher's planner anyway, because all my mark lists, registers and lesson plans will go in there - a) because your teacher's planner sometimes needs to be shown to colleagues or parents and b) I'd use my BuJo up in a few weeks if I had to put all that in it!

Thanks! Those look perfect as you can write on them clearly

Kewcumber · 26/02/2016 08:36

Found my bujo, found my bujo (happy dance)

It's a bit like finding your mojo only happier.

Down the back of the computer. Pah! Computers are over-rated.

Phew Kew, hurrah for the BuJo Mojo! Now that was a silly-sounding sentence.

I've been looking at all the Bluetooth tag things. They mainly seem to work by emitting a noise, which would be helpful in the house (eg down back of computer!) but not on the bus. Some like the tile can give you info about the last place it was when you checked it in with your app, just not live updates the way you could get with find my iPhone etc.

StillSmallVoiceOfQualms · 26/02/2016 10:41

Finally got round to checking in on the lovely new thread!

I've just been setting up my March pages. I found I didn't use the monthly overview much - I still use Google calendar for all my appointments - so I'm scrapping that, keeping the habit tracker (might try actually doing some of these habits this month) and then doing a full set of weekly double-spreads. I've got the days down the left for planning what needs to get done when and then a blank page on the right where I jot down all the things i need to think about or remember that week. I've also added a section for shopping - those items that don't need a dedicated trip to the shops, but I keep meaning to pick up next I'm there, and then forget.

I'm toying with the idea of adding a focus section to each week as well. I find that I end up darting around all over the place, so I might try and dedicate each week to focussing on a specific area and getting some of the backlog cleared. We'll see how well that works...

I'm really pleased with how this month has gone. I've felt on top of things (even the things I planned to do but didn't get round to - at least I know where I am with them) and I've been feeling really positive and cheerful this last week - I don't know if it's to do with the BuJo, but I'll let it take the credit for now!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/02/2016 10:52

Kew
Hurrah!!!

I think I had a small epiphany.
My main worry, how to record/plan future events, got solved partially when I was talking to a friend and she said "the thing is, no matter what system you use, it won't work if you don't look at it"
Lightbulb!!! Exactly.
So as long as I keep looking through whichever log regularly I shouldn't miss any dates.

The other thing is I realised that I need to simplify it.
If an event comes up I need to ask myself "has a place been set up to record this or not?"
Then act accordingly, if yes, record it in the appropriate log (whichever is closest in time to the event), if not set it up.

third thing - not to worry about things being not exactly together just now, best to start properly and as things change and new ideas come along I'll just have to adjust things, keep what works, replace what doesn't. This gives me freedom from trying to figure it all out ahead.

And the last thing - highlighters. I saw Boho berry's BuJo ideas, and colour coding the edge of the page for each month on a different line will allow me to see everything that regards a given month, even if I've run out of space and have to set up a new page for say July after I've started planning for August.
Genius.

Phew. I think I'm coming round to the idea of no separate diary. I'll try for a month or two to see if I can get on with it.

Oh and I've ordered a white dotted LT and a red pen loop for this fresh start. I've decided the gold one is for stroking only.
[weirdo] Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/02/2016 10:55

Oh and I have lovely glitter pens (one for each family member), 8 different highlighters for different months, and lots of wooden pencils that I coloured in with gold and bronze metallic Sharpies. They look shimmery

mercifulTehlu · 26/02/2016 11:31

Grin at the extravagance of having two LTs - one for writing in, one for stroking!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 11:33

8 different highlighters for different months,

But there are 12 months!

I was very good in town earlier and did not set foot in Paperchase. In fact I purchased no stationery at all because it was not on my list.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/02/2016 11:46

Soupy

Yes, but they are on different lines. So if I start with green on 3rd line for March, I won't use it again untill November, which will be half way down the page (or in a different Bujo!) so it's all obvious!
Let me show you....

SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 11:49

Nonononono - you need to BUY MORE COLOURS!

Iggi999 · 26/02/2016 11:56

Soupdragon I think you need an intervention! Grin

SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 12:00

Lets just say I could set up my own craft group and not have to purchase any supplies for a good long time... :o

Jemster · 26/02/2016 12:02

Hello can I join in, I really like the sound of this. My family laugh at me as I have so many notebooks around the house & I never finish one before buying another!
I use my phone for calendar & reminders as I need something to beep at me or I forget things but I still like to write down things I need to do.

A couple of things I'm not clear on..
Should I set aside pages at the front for monthly calendar dates so the diary bit is all at the front? Or do you just start the next months's diary
page when you actually get to that month?

Also what happens if you make lots of lists & use the notebook up quite quickly? Do you then have to copy all your lists of tasks or things not yet achieved into a new book? How long should one book roughly last?
