VM - nightmare! Mind you my DD ate sprouts today! I nearly said the same things I hate them but she was happily munching away

Yes very cross with FIL , esp as DD is so very fussy with veggies. But that's why soup is so great! I have to get it down her mind with the help of sausages which I chop up and coat in it.

I made a cheese and vegetable suace the other week (which was frozen and used for two pasat bakes) and was in my element when she consumed two whole peas - for the first time in her life . She is 3!

Miaou I have just been looking for that Be-Ro book you mentioned. I think a lot of the recipes are available online

Avalon · 20/11/2006 09:54

You can also buy the recipe book direct from the Be-Ro site.

I got a copy a couple of years back and I've got the old version my mum had!

munz · 20/11/2006 11:51

sorry miaou, that was my comment I think which sparked that off.

anyhow on the plus i've found some currents at the back of the cupboard which are going to go in the cookies this afternoon - just look what you've starteed me off on! lol. was thinking baout 3oz of fruit so will let you know unless you've already tried them? made 20 again and there's about 5 left DH think's they're fab so thanks!

munz · 20/11/2006 11:52

ooh also expat thanks for the brownies recipe, does anyone know what the no cook choccy squares recipe is?

munz · 20/11/2006 11:54

ooh ansd also do you do toad in the hole?

a few sausages, (if you cut them in half will go further)
for the batter,

2 eggs
2 flour
2 water
2 milk.

salt/peper.

make sure the tin is real hot with a little fat in the bottom. (MIL waits till it's smoking! lol) pour in 20 mins of so and it's done on the highest setting. also she seals the sausages first before putting them in the tin, but I don't.

lucycat · 20/11/2006 11:56

ooh melting moments I've not made those for years, might do that this afternoon.

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 12:00

wow.....just read this thread from start to finish and am truly inspired. I have spent nearly the same amount on a weeks shop from Tesco which arrived on Friday and I'm struggling to think of what to cook for dinner. I have to go to local shop almost everday to get something or other and its getting ridiculous!

Really need to cut back especially as on maternity leave. If anyone has a nice recipe for vegetable casserole I'd be greatful. Mine always tastes bland and fussy DH pulls a face if I make one. Really need to as have loads of veg that needs using up.

Micku5 · 20/11/2006 14:11

Have been following this thread... and have decided to make more vegetable soups and do more baking.

I've made the lemon fork over biscuits (but with oranges). Still in the oven so I'll let you know soon how they went.

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:18

hello Micku5 and peasinapod!! Biscuits - must make some more! We ate all yesterdays

Peas, the secret is to have plenty of flavour in the casserole. Use a good quality stock (it's the one thing MrMiaou does not skimp on), onions, herbs, pepper etc.

MrMiaou is away in Glasgie just now but he will probably post some more ideas when he gets back tomorrow.

I need more baking stuff, like trays and tins I mean, before I can try half of this. Wilkos is cheapest i suppose ??

Actually will raid my mums cupboard too.

Micku5 · 20/11/2006 14:30

Well 4 have gone in the space of a minute . I have some friends coming over in about an hour so I may have to put some aside otherwise all they will smell is the orange zest in the air lol.

btw thanks to you both for this thread.

SherlockLGJ · 20/11/2006 14:31

Nutty

You need to promise me you won't make muffins.

peainthepod · 20/11/2006 14:41

Thanks Miaou....Its the flavourings part I struggle with. Following a recipe I can do ok but often involves alot of stuff I don't have! Must admit I usually bung a tin of tomatoes in and mixed herbs and hope 4 best

btw....just made the lemon fork biscuits but with orange and some dessicated coconut. Not tried yet as in oven but were v. easy to make.

Glassofwine · 20/11/2006 14:43

I'm another who has been inspired by this thread and Mr & Mrs Miaou.

I just wanted to add that they had frozen turkeys in our local Lidl for £5. this week.

My three children love brown pasta with ham or bacon, peas pesto and grated cheese. It's as cheap as chips.

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:58

Lol - I've just bought an orange so I can make orange fork biscuits!!

Sherlock - do tell - what's wrong with Nutty's muffins??

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:58

Glassofwine - that's what's for tea tonight
