I have a hairy sheepdog that doesn't help

LunarSea · 30/10/2006 10:36

I don't hoover much at all - but we do have a robot vacuum cleaner to do it for us! Ok, it doesn't do the stairs, and can't actually move furniture out of the way for the occasional big lean, but for everyday it can be left to get on with it on it's own.

Dishwasher - most days, sometimes every 2 days if we've eaten out.

Wash clothes - probably 3 times a week.

Tidy - they're ds's toys, so his job to put them away. (OK so we help, and do step in when it gets really bad).

I used to have a neighbour who would hoover her whole house every morning, then after the kids cam home from school for lunch - so weren't there more than about half an hour - reckoned it all needed doing again!

ok, so im obsessive....

clothes get worn once and washed - bar DH's jeans which are every 2 days as he has army clothes for work

jessi/becky can go through 2 sets of clothes a day easily - food/drink/exploding nappies

girls bed clothes get washed 2/3 times a week, ours once a week.(and 1 pair of pjs each per day)

Towels get used and washed

so yeah, i guess i do wash a lot!!

When i say i hoover 3 times a day - that is downstairs, upstairs gets done once or twice a week

muma3 · 30/10/2006 10:52

asleep · 30/10/2006 10:53

a) want it to be daily downstairs, weekly upstairs, but it has been less than that because DS is so scared of the hoover
b) every night before bed
c) daily load
d) every day

cece · 30/10/2006 10:55

a) Hoover - about once a week, maybe more if we are having visitors.

b) Wash up/put dishwasher on - once or twice a day

c) Wash clothes - do about 6 loads a week but do them all on one day.

d) Tidy toys - try to do daily but can be less!

cece · 30/10/2006 10:57

have now read the rest of the thread.

I am amazed at all of you hoovering daily

belgo · 30/10/2006 10:58

Due to my concern for the environment, I wash and clean as little as possible (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. It's not because I'm lazy ). But I do seem to spend the whole day tidying up and sweeping up.

EmmyLou · 30/10/2006 11:15

a) Hoover as dictated by dog's moulting. Maybe twice a week (downstairs)if he's not, everyday (downstairs)if there are hairs all over the place. But our living room is a thoroughfare - you have to walk through it to reach anywhere in the house.
I have a cleaner so know it gets done downstairs and up, once a week.

b) dishwasher - once/twice a day

c) Washing clothes: 3 kids - so at least a load a day

d) Tidy toys - on going. DD3 tends to play a lot at the kitchen table so have to tidy up at mealtimes.

Can't imagine bothering to hoover everyday if the dog wasn't moulting...too much else to do

NOMurDErousPLUME · 30/10/2006 11:40

Just to clarify... I don;t hoover ther entire house twice a day, every day .

The upper floors get done once a week. We have pale carpets throughout (apart from hall, kitchen, bathrooms, utility and loo) so they need hoovering very regularly. The kitchen and hall floor are gloss limestone coloured tiles and they are a bugger, they show up every little crumb and cat hair (black cat). The kitchen NEEDS hoovering twice a day (once after breakfast and again after evening meal). Bloody nightmare basically.

Charleesunnysunsun · 30/10/2006 11:42

a) Hoover - once all through

b) Wash up/put dishwasher on - once in the evening

c) Wash clothes - 2/3 loads per day

d) Tidy toys - about 4/5 times per day

Cappuccino · 30/10/2006 11:47

a) sweep downstairs floors twice a week (kitchen more) and hoover upstairs once a week

b) Wash up/put dishwasher on - once overnight

c) Wash clothes - 1 load a day (only do full loads)

d) Tidy toys - before bedtime. Do it with kids with salsa music on. I'm not doing it on my own

zippy34 · 30/10/2006 11:51

Hoover - once a week max
Wash up - once a day
Wash clothes - twice a week (one lights one darks)
Tidy toys - n/a

Can you guess I've not got kids yet? Getting very panicked about the obvious huge increase in housework after, particularly washing...

Tutter · 30/10/2006 11:53

i can't believe how often some of you hoover

NOMurDErousPLUME · 30/10/2006 11:59

charlee - you wash clothes 2/3 times A DAY ?! Good god . I seem to recall that you only have the one child (although there is another well on the way). Does your DP do a very dirty job or something ?

KBear · 30/10/2006 12:02

Slack housewife alert....

Hoover - twice a week
Wash up - once a day (dishwasher!)
Wash clothes - Every few days
Tidy toys - scoop and tip into toybox every evening

My kids are both at school now so less mess to contend with!

Shocked at hoovering 3 times a day!

rebelmum1 · 30/10/2006 12:05

Yeah but does anyone get any sense of satisfaction out of it? If I don't mind doing it once or twice a week but when it's just as dirty a day later I'm mortified.

rebelmum1 · 30/10/2006 12:07

I get a real sense of rage when I get up in the morning, stagger downstairs for a cup of tea and am met with washing up.

foundintranslation · 30/10/2006 12:08

Hoover - 0 times (no carpets) but clean the floors every 2-3 days.
Wash up - once or twice
wash clothes - do a load every 1-3 days
Tidy toys - usually twice

DrFrankenZooey · 30/10/2006 12:08

I never hoover, dp does it once a week, or twice if someone like my mum was coming round

I wash up 2 or more times a day, dp does the evening stuff

Wash clothes - 1 x per day, sometimes more at weekends (bedding etc)

Tidy toys - do constantly throughout the day

Clary · 30/10/2006 12:10

I agree that some of this hoovering is frequent. But I am also at those who hoover once a week! Maybe you and yr DCs are never in? I know that if anyone has had breakfast, lunch or tea in a room then that room will need hoovering. I do it in the evening after they have gone to bed - takes about 10 mins (I?m not talking shifting the sofas etc) and I feel a lot happier. If I left it a week the main living room floor would be disgusting
I?m more shocked, like nomdeplume, at 3 loads of washing a day. That?s 21 a week! I have 3 children and rarely get more than one wear out of their clothes (DD is quite clean but not the boys); wash towels and bedlinen once a week. I wash tops for me and DH every time worn (not trousers and skirts tho). But still rarely more than 10 loads a week, I know cause a colleague and I counted once after a conversation on this very subject.

elliepmummy · 30/10/2006 12:19

Hoover upstairs 4/5 times a week sweep downstairs floor at least 3 times a day (normally after DD has eaten) and wash floors at least 1 per day

Wash up around 3 times a day

Washing clothes around 1 load per day

Tidy toys probably on and off all day as DD is 2 and has low attention span therefore seems to get lots out and play with nothing
