Ok so it's 3 days, but who's going to do anything on New Years Eve!

Just noticed it was perilously high! Does this mean we have all done so much more decluttering and detailed cleaning than last month?!

hahahahahaha I haven't. At least not in the last few days. I've been a sloth. A stressed sloth. But a sloth, nonetheless.

Current new year's eve plans are to go to bed early as have long busy plans for new year's day. but as in theory I have a date on monday this might change.

Beginning to untangle a few bits and bobs wrt ds. Christmas has really gotten to him and he is needing a return to normal asap. so might suggests he helps to take down his decorations tomo. And considering leaving the decorations going up until a bit later next year but giving him his seasonal sensory box normal time. I need normal routines rather badly. And thinking that I might just bite the bullet and plan to do normal stuff tomo. And thus optomistically am going to write a to do list:

to do
Make up ds friendly mince pies
clean inside of car
wash outside of car
folding
ironing
more washing
pack stuff for tomo's afternoon out
sort out ds' stuff for going to his dad's (lets be honest both ds and i will want a lie in on monday)
do some tidying in ds' room
go through ds' clothes and make a bag or three of too small clothes.
write packing list to make sure that i have everything don't forget need trip to shops
christmas cards - two that i still have that needs to go to the intend people
write thank cards for ds (he won't do them so will do some photo thank you for him)
Write important email and sent the one waiting to go
move furniture to find some important paperwork

Swan - that is EXACTLY what it has been like. I haven't eaten a proper meal since Christmas dinner, just lots of toast, fruit and chocolate and a massive bag of Doritos.

dizzy only lost power for 30 mins yesterday, but almost got blown away, and had a horrendous journey home.

Bitchy is not having it easy with her DS, wish I could offer some help. You know we are cheering you on.

Blueandwhite* is having her DSs on a rota. They sound lovely and helpful.

Silly needs to realise she can't do everything straight away , you've been through a lot and need time to recoup.

toffee had some wise words, and sounds like you are taking the right approach with DS1. As with bitchy we are all right behind you.

Castle got some rose cuttings from her grandparents (we have a fern from my DGM) so sorry the house is so unloved right now.

Eustacia so sorry you are feeling so bad and missed Frozen.

Just I'm impressed you got any of Christmas dinner done, so pleased you aren't too soggy. Sounds like everything has wiped you out.

Swan keeping the routines sounds like a good idea, DD is definitely out of sorts right now. We've not done her project either

WhoKnows has lively DCs and cats when not really up to it, but still managed a substantial list.

I took DD to the cinema (our usual Saturday treat) Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 today, then we met DH and went to the Riverside Museum, Glasgow's museum on travel and transport but he liked it, and it did get European Museum of the Year 2013.

Been getting back into the laundry, ironing goes quicker with Baileys. And tomorrow we tackle the toy pile.

Though my major thing will be to practice 30 days have September etc...

Yet another enjoyable day of no flying, but it all being all about me and family time together.

This afternoon was spent challenging 2 other families to a table football championship. Great fun was had by all!! Will try and make this an annual tradition.

Returned to put the youngest 3 ds to bed and let ds2 stay up and enjoy a dairy free chocolate ice cream with me. Unfortunately it hasn't agree with him (especially on top of all the rubbish consumed this afternoon) and has been vomiting for the last twenty minutes. Now safety tucked up in bed.

I have got into the habit of not going to bed until 2. This has to change so tonight I will be tucked up before midnight, as really need to do some serious flying tomorrow.

I think you may be right Bitchy it won't do any harm going back to normal routines. DD seems to be either excited or sulky. We're trying to get normal bedtimes back, although it does mean I'll lose my lie ins

Bitchy I did wonder whether the change in routine that xmas brings was what was getting your DS into a tizz. And I fret what it must be like for kids of split families (my DS included) being surrounded by images of happy families when they have to go through it twice - but neither time never adhering to the "perfect" image protrayed

Another quiet day here. We popped round to see FIL who has just moved up here near BIL but other than that its just been vegging out on the sofa. I think we are going swimming tomorrow to let the kids burn off some energy - and so I can make DD get some lengths in! Cruel I know but we have another gala on the 5th.

Goth - I'm making notes of all your days out around Glasgow recommendations as we holiday up that way every August. We went to the old Transport Museum a few years ago but haven't been to the new one yet.

Buddha I love the way you have taken flight and are so thoroughly into Christmas spirit - maybe it is the joy of large families.

to be fair to ds he gets like this in the summer. just handle change. or too much sugar. or spending too much time with his dad. which is a same as i think it is good for him to know his dad. Also i have lacked the energy to bully him out of his onsie into clothes and out of the house as i have been feeling flat cos of flu. Plus he really is becoming a young man physically and being only 8 is struggling with this. The child is all muscle and most teenagers would kill for his muscle definition, just ds is torn between little boy in mind and more grown up body. Poor kid. I suspect that this is part of all the tears and clingyness, but nothing i can do much for though.

Damm it hit post too soon. dizzy that doesn't sound mean to me sounds like the perfect thing tbh

I think tomorrow is going to be our last day of just slobbing around at home (although not so much for me, as I have to get the house sorted for Monday's visit). After NY, I plan to start enforcing proper bedtimes again, so that school doesn't come as too huge a shock on the following Monday morning.

Swan - I have also put off inviting people round. Ds2 wanted playmates, but the thought of managing other people's children and feeding them suddenly seemed too much, so I have put it off till next week. And DS2 has been having such a happy time making Lego films and playing Monopoly with us or watching 'Minecraft' on YouTube that I don't think he has suffered too much.

The only visitor we have had is MIL, who came round for tea this afternoon.

Right, must get to bed. Hope you get some sleep too, Bitchy. Going back to a normal routine tomorrow sounds like a very good plan for you and DS.

Also meant to say dizzy ds doesn't worry about 2 christmases. he likes the two christmas dinners and two lots of presents. What ds has an issue with is the lack of learning, he has a very high need for mental stimulation, which was why i gave him the programming the other day. Additionally he is a boy and thus like a puppy needs exercising 3 times daily in order to be tameable. Thrown in change of routine (or lack of routine), sound and other sensory challenges, social skills challenges and it is a hell of a lot to deal with before adding in issues of growning up etc. It just comes down to the fact that aspies don't like change, and at christmas I don't have the energy to homeschool him through the holdiay as i generally get some virus and need a rest.

Tbh i think i would have liked ds' experience of christmas with 2 lots of people making an effort for things to be good rather then my own childhood experience of christmas which whilst the family was one could be counted on turning into a world war scenario and thus christmas was dreaded rather then looked forward too in some respects. It is possible for kids with separated parents to have some great experiences of christmas. So for me this is not something I worry about.

Wide awake as I slept most of yesterday. The house is a pigsty so I plan to get that sorted today. I am itching to take the Christmas decs down but the kids will want them to stay up longer so will prob wait until NYD.

I have been trying to follow fly lady for two years now, but completely failed in 2013, so need to get back on the wagon now. I'm taking down the decorations today, DH is putting everything back in the loft tomorrow and then taking the DC out on Tuesday so I can have a big tidy/sort out, so will hopefully be starting on Wednesday with a clean slate

Big sigh of frustration here. DCs being manic and (dare I say it) slightly feral, requiring extra input from me. Every time I leave the room there is fighting, and I'm going spare. The chances of me getting through my huge list are slim to none. (DS1 is disabled and while obviously he needs to behave, he struggles greatly with behaviour, so it can be a bit tricky - DS2 is just younger and copying behaviours from DS1, which is the hazard of having older ones with behavioural problems ).

I will post list later, once I've whittled it a bit (and added those extra tasks to tomorrow's list).

oh, sorry. Welcome Whispers! I don't take down the decorations until after New Year's Day. With all the chaos around here, I'm beginning to question that tradition. A little less clutter would be nice. But I'm loathe to get rid of the tree so soon.

I did used to take them down on 12th night, but a couple of years ago happened to do it on New Year's Eve and it was really nice to get everything back in order for the new year so I have carried on doing it Also good to get it done while DH is still off work so he can put it all in the loft, we have a short ladder and I can't reach nothing to do with the spiders up there, oh no

We only have the tree and christmas cards up. Usually wait till after the 2nd to take the tree down (my birthday) as otherwise I find the house looks so empty and unjolly with no fairy lights!

Managed a start on the unpacking yesterday but still a lot to sort. iLs will be round at 3 today.

Have come downstairs with ds and let DH lay in a bit (he's back to work tomorrow).

Morning. I would like to get back on the flywagon. DP and I did a massive declutter just before Christmas and it has made a massive difference. I am determined to at least try to keep on top of things.
I plan on taking all the decorations down next Saturday. I love the tree and lights, although I may take the cards down before then.
Hope ds starts to feel a bit more settled with a return to his normal routine Bitchy. We have gone back to normal bedtime routines for the dc as they are a nightmare once they are out of their routine.
