Whispers When I wanted to get on top of every room and I did this instead (as recommend by another fledgling) and I think it was better than if I spent a hour in every room, as I would of run out of steam.

Whatever you do, good luck.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/12/2013 20:23

Visitor couldn't find anything rude to say about the state of our house Shock. It really is spotless too but won't be for long.

Am off out to the pub with a couple of friends to de-stress now...

andagiraffeinapineappletree · 30/12/2013 20:51

merry that is kind of what I do and it works I haven't really got into routines yet but fingers crossed I will in jan Grin Quite looking forward to fresh jan 1st start.

I am in if there is a 2 stone to lose element in the thread too Grin

Had a little stay with family and now sooo many toys and new & hand me down clothes for the dc to put away.

WhispersOfWickedness · 30/12/2013 21:15

Wow, Merry, I am in awe at your list ShockGrin

You are right, I do like the crisis cleaning way and have done that in the past. I am delighted to say that I don't really need to do that this time as the house is, on the surface, vaguely clean and tidy Grin What isn't though, is all the places where people don't normally look, like under the stairs, inside the kitchen cupboards, in the airing cupboard, in our wardrobes etc.

I will remember to take the regular breaks though as that definitely makes a difference to the possibility of burning out. Will also take a look at fly lady's spring cleaning tips, she must have some good ones somewhere Grin

AliceinWinterWonderland · 30/12/2013 21:21

Still trying to be organised and not succeeding. I promise I'll be better once the DCs are back in school and I have a spare moment to breathe.

Ok, I was wrong, she doesn't like spring cleaning Grin

Ah well, will just make it up on my own Smile Will post my to do list in the morning to keep me on track.

As predicted, DH is taking the DC to his parents tomorrow, and I also heard him talking about putting winter tyres on the car and some other garage bits, so that means it will actually be MIL watching the DC and not him at all Hmm can you tell this is an ongoing gripe of mine?! Grin

Round Up

There was a lot of talk/planning re runs in 2014 I'm going to get us all on the scales either tomorrow or Wednesday (depends on how much procrastination I do) I think I may have talked DH into doing the 5:2, will be dusting off the MFP probably from the 6th when she's back at school.

Toffee has a tidy bedroom all ready for her guest.

WhoKnows has a short notice guest, so planning a spare room blitz. We've not been to the Titan (yet) DH isn't good with heights, so it may be one just for DD & me. Ewwww to the cat's plant pot toilet.

Bitchy has a tired DS, I know what that's like DD stayed up to watch Pirates of the Caribbean yesterday. Would Wine help?

Castle has invited her DM over to increase motivation for cleaning. That should do it! Grin

dizzy's forensic course sounds good. My cousin does something like that for the Australian Police. So sorry your day out was cancelled. I'm hoping the weather improves as we're getting cabin fever.

Mercury and Toffee were early birds and only MNing to be quiet Smile

Silly had a run to the tip. How's the bed building going?

Engels is planning to tackle her cellar over new year. And has her DH home for the week (what a lovely surprise Wink)

Merry has been relaxing whilst her DH and ds2 are away on a road trip.

elliepac found us!

feet never mind DD being Envy, I am Envy Envy Envy over you meeting Cressida Cowell. I'm hoping that we get to more book signings now we're in a city.

Eustacia has pre-guests nerves. Remember they here to see you, not the house, and if they're good friends they won't care what your size is. We all get older (and rounder in my case)

Whispers came back for a 2nd day. Beginning to think we need a "yellowbellies" sub-group.

JustGetting is staying in the naughty corner-GOOD, you need to get better.

Blueandwhite popped in.

giraffe the routines do come! just take it steady.

Alice it's very difficult to be organised in the holidays, I think we're all struggling. But sometimes it's best to say fuck it, and know that you will you will get on top of it once they are back at school.

I've had a mixed day, BUT am on top of the paperwork!

I doubt I'll be doing a summary tomorrow Grin as I'm planning to marinate lightly in cider in front of BBC Scotland's Hogmanay output. So I'll hand us over to Bitchy's tender mercies Grin It sounds like your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to also get a good proportion of us in shape too!

OP posts:
AliceinWinterWonderland · 30/12/2013 22:28

But sometimes it's best to say fuck it

I like this. Can this be my new mantra? Xmas Grin

WhispersOfWickedness · 30/12/2013 23:04

Wow, I continue to be impressed with your round up, Goth ShockGrin
Does this mean you are a yellowbelly too? I'm only really an honorary one as only lived here for... umm...6 years. 6 years?!? Where the hell did that go?!

Massively impressed with Merry's ta da list, I couldn't ever possibly hope to achieve all that in one day, I'm far too lazy BlushGrin

GoingGoingGoth · 30/12/2013 23:37

Whispers oh yes, a yellowbelly in exile.

Born at the RAF hospital at Nocton near Lincoln, grew up in Louth and moved to Grimsby (only after Humberside was removed and it changed to NE Lincs)

Don't worry it's not Norfolk, you'll be classed as a local before 20 years are done.

Alice yes that's a mantra that gets used a lot here, I also have 'It'll do (pig)" or "good enough"

OP posts:
BitchytheGreat · 31/12/2013 00:35

"But sometimes it's best to say fuck it" depends what it is you might end up fucking imo.

Yep will take over tomo. Tonight didn't go as planned. Hmm and not feeling the need to sleep as I am currently over thinking.

BitchytheGreat · 31/12/2013 03:02

Strike that. Thanks to a good friend who keeps as weird hours as I do all is good and sleep will happen. Every woman needs a bestie who can knock some sense into them and Wine, Wine definitely helps Grin.

Will set the thread up tomo late after noon. Although I will end up posting two lots of links as I have just realised I am away the evening of the 1st. So if someone will be so kind to repost after everyone has written all their greetings and chit chat for Wednesday that would be great. It was last minute plans and I am back on the 2nd so will be fine for that. Thanks

feetheart · 31/12/2013 07:37

Morning all :)
Will try a Ta da list for yesterday but it isn't long:

  • Fed 3 children throughout the day (DD had sleepover friend) but mainly on crumpets and gingerbread house :)
  • S&S bathroom
  • One load of washing
  • Washing up x a lot
  • Made chicken and gammon chowder and soda bread
  • Ate chocolates
  • Caught cats and applied anti-flea stuff
  • Bottled plum vodka - yum :)
  • Spent far too much time talking about running and very little no time working
  • Slobbed in front of TV

So far today I have:

  • Made a list of 'things I want to do' for 2014 (not resolutions, oh no, not at all)
  • Brought laptop up to bed
  • Signed DS and I up for Colour 5k in June (as persuaded to by Buddha :))

I now need to do the work I should have done yesterday - ho hum!

WhispersOfWickedness · 31/12/2013 07:59

Goth - Shock that is where DH was born! Could never hope to drag him away from his beloved Lincolnshire.

Bitchy - hope you got some sleep Sad

Ok, my list for today...

Wipe out kitchen cupboards
Reorganise kitchen drawers
Clear out DH's 'corner of crap' in the living room Hmm
Have a quick sort out of the bookcase
Hoover living room including under sofas
Reorganise under stairs cupboard
Hoover under shoe rack in hall way
Hoover hallway floor and steam mop
Hoover stairs and landing
Reorganise airing cupboard
Hoover DS's room and wipe down his window.
Hoover DD's room
Pull out spare bedding from underneath DD's bed and put in wardrobe
Clean under DD's bed
Reorganise DD's wardrobe
Clear off tops of chest of drawers and headboard
Dust
Put clothes away
Clear massive pile of rubbish in corner BlushBlush
Hoover entire floor, including under the bed
Quick wipe down in bathroom
Steam mop bathroom floor

Phew Grin There is NO way that I'm going to get all of this done, but it's good to have something to aim for Grin

elliepac · 31/12/2013 08:00

Morning allSmile.

whispers and goth have to say I was born a yellowbelly, left for a few years to go to uni and then met husband in hometown when visiting the parents and returned to being a yellowbelly in a steeltown which has a bad word in itWinkGrin. Dad moved here for a teaching job from York and promised the mother it would only be for a couple of years....40 years laterWinkGrin.

Not sure what i am doing today apart from a food shop. We are at that point where we have enough biscuits/chocolate to feed an army but nothing to actually make a meal out of. Still need to decide what to do tonight. DH wants to have some friends round but I cannot be arsed. Am not big on New Year. Would probably enjoy myself if it came to it but am feeling antisocial.

bitchy I will repost links for you on the morning of the 2nd. Smile

Going to go and ponder what to do. Everyone is still in bed so I am enjoying my morningBrew in peace.

elliepac · 31/12/2013 08:02

X-posts with whispers. That is one mahoosive to do list. I need one like that but am struggling this morning.

CallingAllEngels · 31/12/2013 09:21

DH is still in bed and DS and I are both in pjs and dressing gowns playing with trains/mning.CBA!

Honu · 31/12/2013 09:53

Had to google 'yellowbelly'!

Still having carer stress - they are so unreliable I can't leave DH until they are gone. Not only am I a lousy housewife I am a crap carer too! One of the disadvantages of living in the sticks is no choice of carer agency. We have got to get this sorted before the start of next term!

I can only just get into the study it's so full of crap. Paper shit is the worst! And my inbox is full so my 'elephant' task this week is decluttering that. Whispers I am so in awe of your todo list. This week has fewer guests and no teaching so I hope to at least make a dent in the chaos. BBL if I don't end up buried under the mess.

EustaciaVye · 31/12/2013 10:01

Morning all.
I blitzed kitchen and living room last night so they arent too bad.
Morning routine done.

I just cant seem to shake this virus. I have been ill on and off for about month. just as I start to feel better I go downhill again. it is frustrating. dds are the sane though so I know it just a nasty one.

Plan to clear everything christmassy except for the cards and trees today. I need dds to tidy their rooms too so wish me luck Grin

GoingGoingGoth · 31/12/2013 10:22

Morning all,

elliepac · 31/12/2013 10:30

If it makes you feel better engels, i am still drinking coffee in pj's thinking about what I have to do, DS is in onesie watching TV and DD is in onesie on the laptop. DH still in bed. We all have cbaGrin.

WhispersOfWickedness · 31/12/2013 10:38

Ok! I have sat down for my 15 minutes rest, I have just spent 45 minutes doing one thing on that list, so please don't be in awe yet!

Ellie - hehe, I know exactly which steel town you are referring to :o I've been there a couple of times for work a few years ago, but don't really know it very well.

We're not doing anything for New Year, will probably go to bed at normal time of 10ish as well! DC are 4yo and 2yo, the 2yo still wakes us in the night and they both get up massively early, so sleep is very precious in the Whispers household!

Right, best get back to the to do list! BBL :)
