Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Lunch bloody sucked. Story here

And I now have a sore throat again. Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/06/2012 15:03

I've glanced at your thread Carpe, in a rush but just wanted to make you a quick Brew and send you a virtual hug.

sanguinechompa · 27/06/2012 15:09

Gulp. Sitting here rather taken aback. Have just been shouted at in front of other colleagues by normally very kind and even-tempered employee - something to do with her payments through an agency. (I'm involved administratively and it's a bit complicated but basically we had option of registering her with 'on-line' or 'hard-copy' option. She favoured latter but for various reasons, we had no choice but to register her initially on-line - so first lot of papers came back automatically via e-mail, but then there is option thereafter of her choosing hard copy option again). She is failing to understand this even though I've tried to explain it three times (as did dh last week). My French gets very wobbly under duress! So have crept away to post here and wait until my hands stop shaking before going back to try and calm waters.

[wibble emoticon]

Swan we are facing v similar fireplace dilemmas and identical ££££££ quotations! Trouble with period house is that we have so many double doors, windows, fireplaces etc, there is actually very little plain wall to put furniture against. So I am too living in hope that one or two fireplaces may have to be sacrificied (dh horrified at prospect though).

Well done re: anti-procrastination phone calls - hope you can arrange appts soon.

Couldn't agree more about obligatory sun cream drills. I had (for once) remembered to slather dd in the morning but they had been doing all sorts of exercises in fields and woods throughout day - some involving water- so they needed to re-apply. Hope your ds2 less sore today.

Intrigued by rabbit gadgets Grin and enjoy carpet hack!!

Sorry it's such tough going atm Bitchy and house situation must be so frustrating. No wonder you are tearing your hair out. Well done for ploughing on through list notwithstanding Thanks

Wow Toffee you are on a roll!! That's quite a substantial list you have got through there. And congrats to your ds1 on hishwk!! It's great that the on-line teaching is suiting him and that he is excelling in history. Arf at parcel tape on freezer btw Grin (Makes me feel a whole lot better about several "improvised solutions" here!!)

Oh dear, all our days our going rapidly downhill Sad. So sorry your lunch didn't work out well, Carpe. You were so brave to go. I will have a look at your thread. And *SC, that is awful. I was shouted at by loony customers when I worked with the general public and it used to really, really upset me. I know how shaky it can make you. There is probably something else going on in her life and she's taking it out on you, but that is no excuse. I hope you get it sorted out ok.

DS1 just asked if I'd lend him the money for a treat from the corner shop Shock. He has a bloody nerve, sometimes. The answer was no.

BlueEyeshadow · 27/06/2012 16:48

Waves to all and proffers soothing Brew and Biscuit to all in need - the virtual sort have no calories!

Hope you're feeling a bit better now, esp. Carpe and SC.

I've shocked myself by managing to do a bit of flying as well as all the work-related admin on my list!

Ta da!
Hoovered through
Ironing
Clean laundry away
Cleaned out bins
Hotspots x lots
Photos onto PC
Work stuff
Admin stuff
Blog

Can't remember who it was talking about lower fat cooking, but I've got a thread over in food about that where I've had some great tips so far. And if anyone's got any more, do feel free to add them! Wink

laurenamium · 27/06/2012 16:56

Wow there are so many flyers having bad days today!

My mindee visit went well, they are coming next week to contract sign and are starting the week after!

I might have accidentally had a 2 hour nap when DD did instead of flying Blush

I'll be back later with a list

laurenamium · 27/06/2012 17:04

Just read the thread and saw sc question!

Horse thread derailing Grin :
We were told the lameness on her front leg was an old check ligament injury recurring, and 2 weeks box rest with bute would do it. So she had that and went back out still with bute in her system (was the girl that has her on loans decision- I wouldn't have necessarily put her straight back out) and she went mental and twisted her back shoe off and stood on the nail Hmm so she currently is on box rest with a poultice. The vet has also said that she has arthritis in her front leg due to her pigeon toe and so long term bute is the best option as it will mean she will still be able to do the things she loves (jumping, eventing etc). So fingers crossed we have a future plan!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/06/2012 17:36

Sorry, literally only read Carpe's post earlier when I dumped Brew and ran, just read a few more posts so I have refilled the teapot, here is a Brew for Sc, Toffee, Bitchy and anyone else who needs it (I've still only skimmed)

CarpeJugulum · 27/06/2012 17:40

DH working at different location. He's going to be late home.

FFS, can this day get any worse?

Actually, don't answer that! Sad

ToffeeWhirl · 27/06/2012 17:47

Thanks for the sympathy, lovely fledglings.

Have done the school run and walked the magic dog with DS1, who has apologised for his behaviour earlier. Am now starting to cook various packages from the freezer as everything is defrosting fast. Seems the freezer is self-defrosting after all Wink.

SC - I hope the employee backed down and became more reasonable.

Carpe - I hope you feel better now.

Bitchy - you too.

lauren - Grin at your accidental nap. Good for you.

swanthingafteranother · 27/06/2012 18:30

I had a nap this afternoon, and the world mysteriously looks a better place. Odd that Grin

done
Staples
Dr rang finally, so can organise appt with pysch

Beavers/synching babysitter has taken ds2 for a walk.
dd is filling in my new whiteboard from Staples, unfortunately not with appts and reminders but a large picture of what appears to be Tracy Beaker.

Toffee it is just a blip, no different to any bad day at school, all is not lost.
Carpe mine would have been apalling at a ladies' lunch. I did work out the secret was to always seat ds2 looking out the window at the traffic Grin Big hug to you and to ds who obviously just wanted you all to himself and not to share you with ANYONE. Coffee at yours sounds a brilliant solution. I've decided restaurants are where I get away from my children, saying that they have finally learnt how to sit still.

oh dear dd is crying because I said her picture was terrifying, I meant it in a good way..

sanguinechompa · 27/06/2012 18:39

Hello hello!

[quaffs soothing tea - thanks Blue and Whoknows]

Carpe oh I'm so sorry lunch was so stressful for you, especially when you had made such an effort to be there. It's sod's law isn't it - just when you want 'em to behave. Honestly though, bet you could go to repeat of very same lunch tomorrow and your lo would be perfectly behaved and someone else's child would be playing up so don't blame yourself!! Have a glass of Wine or three x And hope sore throat doesn't develop in to anything more serious x

Toffee oh no - sorry on-line learning proved so stress-provoking this afternoon - and that you had to be peacemaker (v. wearing). Bound to be swings and roundabouts at the start and your ds will be learning as much from the bad days, as from the good!! Glad magic dog could soothe nerves all around.

Thanks for sympathy over shouting incident - it did shake me up a bit - mostly because it was so baffling and unexpected.

[Mahoosive vent alert]
I tried my best to soothe situation but things did not go well Sad. I probably mishandled it but genuinely don't know what else I could have said/done. Employee blew up again and resigned. She also said some pretty unfair (and factually incorrect) things about dh (or things he had neglected to do or done incorrectly) in his absence which I rebutted fairly forcefully (criticising dh being strictly my department Grin!!) I tried to stay calm but things did get heated towards the end and that is never good in a professional context, so I blame myself for that.

I am really bemused though because we've been (although I say it myself) scrupulously fair/kind/flexible throughout her 5-yr employment. We've always paid her when she was ill or when her ds was ill and always paid 3/4 for holidays (even though we weren't obliged to as she is employed by an agency). We have also been very flexible over days off and defended her (legally) when she was having difficulties with her landlord. So we've given her the benefit of the doubt quite often, and frankly I'm disappointed that she couldn't extend us the same courtesy when it came to a dispute with a third party.

What makes this particularly bemusing and sad is that she has been a really good, hard-working and kind colleague and one of the most patient people you could meet. It is like she had a personality change overnight! The central office of the agency which employs her is staffed by a load of twonks but we can't really be blamed for that.

I'm just relieved that having discussed situation over phone with dh, he is not blaming me for mishandling situation (something he quite rightly wouldn't hesitate to do if I was in wrong) . He has studied relevant documents/cold hard facts and agrees it is agency that has made error.

Wish I felt well enough to drink tonight! My head is still full of it all now.

Lauren congrats on your new mindee!! And thanks for horse update. Sod's law again isn't it - they always do something mental just when they need to be especially careful - so - shame about the nail but good you have a long term plan of treatment and that she can jump! Here's to a speedy recovery!

Whey hey Blue!! Top marks for Flying so high today and will definitely take a look at low-fat food thread - thanks for heads up - will be taking notes!!

Mahoosive wing flaps to Whoknows and everyone else.

BBL!!

Leaves out crate of Wine and several corkscrews in naughty corner ...

evening all
sc hope rest of your work day went better
toffee poor you and DS. Glad teacher was good about it though. hope you can persuade ds to give it another go.
swan I dont think that psychaitrist/CBT would be mutually exclusive...ie both may be helpful. They serve different purposes. Pyschiatrist will over see things
generally and may advise on different treatments/therapies etc CBT therapist will use that particular mode of therapy which is the recomended first choice therapy for depression - so worth a try! Hope you get somewhere with referral.
carpe what a rubbish day. I hope thats an end to your bad luck for today. Wine

well, in keeping with most it seems my day was rubbish!Very stresful situation on work which took most of day to resolve, lots of difficult team dynamics going on to make it worse...

now just home and very exhausted and lacking motivation but have loads to do as didnt get as much done this morning (toffee I normally get up at 6, but didnt manage to drag myself out of bed till 6.30 today!!)
all dc tired and V grumpy from "fun fitness Day" at school....

right, off try and do bedtime for ds2.........

OverflowingMum · 27/06/2012 18:58

oh lord DD4 in absolutely foulest uncontrollable mood ever. She really can tcope with all these "extra " "fun" days they insist in cramming into the last half term of term....arrrggghhhAngry

BitchyInTheCorner · 27/06/2012 19:24

Here they are nicknamed the extra hell days OFM ds is also struggling with this but is thankfully smiley even if he is disobedient, rude, lying, controlling, theiving although he calls it collecting and non-sleeping. Am guessing the fun activity stuff just before christmas is also a problem for dd4 too?

CarpeJugulum · 27/06/2012 19:31

Body Clutter Alert

I'm about to eat a cheesecake. Probably a whole one.

I feel like crap, I have a headache, and DS

CarpeJugulum · 27/06/2012 19:33

was playing up at bedtime.

There may be squirty cream involved as well.

Bugger the diet!

BitchyInTheCorner · 27/06/2012 19:44

Huge packet of biscuits here but it didn't make me feel better, just guilty. Is it really worth it carpe?

OverflowingMum · 27/06/2012 20:28

bitchy yes, also HATE the last couple of weeks before Christmas for same reason. DD4 just cant cope. I have this year booked 4 days off work during the worst of the sports days, trips etc (week after next)as last year I was so exhausted trying to cope with the fall out Hmm
am now desperately needing chocolate..sigh... am going to try a single square of dark choc to see if helps....
Hayfever is making me feel really ill too...sore throat, wheezy, streaming nose and swollen itchy beyond belief eyes....think I may just go to bed Sad

likelucklove · 27/06/2012 20:47

Toffee Ah, I remember now from the talk of border collies! Your DS will love it :) RE: washing machine, I agree after doing towels today the other day - nightmare!

Sorry to hear about your crap day Carpe, Toffee, sc and AFM. Hope your feeling better now, and if not the cheesecake may be worth it Carpe, but think of all the extra exercise you'll have to do to burn it off! (Says me, who has been slowly munching away at maltesters...)

I didn't make it back yesterday because I didn't do anything Blush DD's teeth still playing up hugely and I just didn't have the energy to do anything. I felt so low yesterday, I had to pick DP up from work and I looked a mess. Honestly thought I was going to explode (not at DD obviously), so have registered at a new doctors to see if they'll up my dosage.

But have been much better today! Will post my ta da list below since it's on phone, and I'm on computer. Too much hard work.

Night, I'm off to do my nails and drink a glass of wine. Hopefully DD will pick up I am in no mood to be woken up tonight. Hope you all have a better day tomorrow

BitchyInTheCorner · 27/06/2012 21:44

Must confess that tonight I had a major melt down. Much yelling, much shouting, and probably much swearing but i don't specificcally recall that. I actually feel better as I got a lot of stuff off my chest. Unrealistic expectations, constant critism, extreme circumstances etc, etc. All directed at the chief grief causer. who did this: ShockAngryConfusedShockSad[enlightened].

We have a truce, a mini plan of action and hopefully a calmer environment. Which will in turn help ds. And in fact all of us. The stress levels here have been enough to trigger a thermodynamic bomb just by someone breathing. Hopefully now some stress elements have been removed the risk of explosion will be reduced.

Going to construct a plan of action for tomo:

to do:
lunch
school run
laundry
folding
ironing
put clothes away
get cot out of loft
bring down paperwork for sorting
take bed apart and put box away
check through cloths sent for ds to grow into and put into storage
bag up charity shop stuff
CRB forms
email photo (find scanned photo first)
Find portable hard-drive so can find photo
Ds to training
AGM
Bathroom floor.
Hang curtains

Lots of little jobs for tomo as tbh I need to be able to tick stuff off quickly.
