sanguinechompa · 31/05/2012 08:27

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Forgot to add to list:
gather together unwanted books for second hand sale tomorrow

OP posts:
Curlyfrizzball · 15/06/2012 09:04

I've just ordered the Flylady book - I figure I can always sell it again if I don't like it. Really need something to get me motivated. I have been looking at her decluttering tips - going to try the 27-fling boogie today. I really like that idea! Other to dos:-
Clear draining board
Wash up
Shine sink
Print and send reports
Phone re: car insurance
Buy father's day present for DH - what to get???
Post my dad's father's day card
Put away dry washing
Put on more washing
Online supermarket shop
I think I'll stop there in the interests of trying to be vaguely realistic, though there's lots more that needs doing.

Blue - congratulations to your brother. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

Linzer and SC - ditto as well re only drinking tea/coffee/wine. Couldn't sleep last night, and I'm sure it was from caffeine overload! Also need to waste far less time on the computer - on which note I'm going to switch off and get on with my list!...

swanthingafteranother · 15/06/2012 09:05

that is very helpful SC I will try the lead method - and yes he does know to sit, just that the desire to follow me overrides the sit conditioning. What dog did you have, if I may enquire?

Blue congratulations on your brother's ordination.

Well, everyone has gone to school. With the right stuff I hope. Dh had a "business lunch" yesterday so was somewhat the worst for wear, and things were not helped by ds2 having a tantrum at 6.45am about Euro highlights (fuse was still removed). We compromised on 10 mins of score results and then he managed to get through morning on diet of Queen, and went off to school calmly.

I spilt the milk though!

House a slum...loads of clean laundry though Hmm and need to go to Hosp appt this morning to check blood test results. Hopefully it will reveal I need more thyroxine, and it is not just me being a lazy sloven.

laurenamium · 15/06/2012 09:05

Just flying by with list dump! No more work today now I'm back from school run, my usual one has rescheduled to a full day next week on account of DD being ill and us going to doctors! (luckily they are very flexible and good friends!)

To do:
Cuddle DD LOTS
Doctors at 10:55
Laundry- and put away (most of DDs wardrobe Blush)
Clean out handbag
Today's mission in bathroom- playroom spotless after yesterday!
Wash kitchen floor
Write shopping lists based on 3 week rolling menu for kids and laminate
Walk dog
Dig out fathers day cards I bought last year- bought 3 sets Hmm as I couldn't decide
Ring EDF to kick butt
File away paperwork
Fill out NI paperwork and post
Put away clothes in my room
Change DD sheets- calpol everywhere from night time dosing!
Routines
Front room hotspot
Kitchen hotspot

That should do it! BBL!

laurenamium · 15/06/2012 09:09

curly I've got my dad a shop size box of toblerones from me and DD Grin there's 32 toblerones in there! DD doesn't see her dad though, considering treating myself to something instead Grin

CarpeJugulum · 15/06/2012 09:30

Morning ladies!

Feeling in a much better frame of mind. Toddlers is a nightmare, I hate it so much, but DS loves it - but it will be breaking up for the holidays (I think next week will be the last week) so will attend that and then start thinking about what else we can do on a Thursday morning. Maybe have a look at the swimming pool timetable and take him there instead.

laure love the Toblerones Grin. I don't have to worry about my Dad - I'll post a card natch, but he's not in the country, so a pressie can wait until the sales Wink Can't decide whether to say I hope your DD has an infection (to explain the terrors) or to hope she doesn't (but then you have no explanation!). I'll compromise and go with "hope it goes well"!
swan hope the blood test comes back the way you want!
Curly the book is great if you ignore some of the gushing stuff it really motivated me, and I do need to reread it.
sc good luck with the boudoir! Mine is still relatively tidy - I just need to gut DH's drawers.
waves to everyone else

Today I need to:

  • S&S
  • Washing for DH & I
  • Washing for DS - probably this evening
  • Sort out DS's food box (all the crap he eats that we buy in bulk, but DH just dumps stuff in)
  • Find storage space for a crate of DS's toys so I can alternate, and clear a few out of the living room
  • Find storage space for presents for FIL's 65th
  • Dust and mop floor of study/spare room
  • Dust and hoover our bedroom
  • Wash bedding on floor of DS's room.
  • Finish WAH job. waiting on office to do their bit

Right, hope everyone has good days!

My motivational to/ta-da list so far:

  • S&S - done
  • Washing for DH & I - done - to the detriment of the wm Sad trying it to see if it still works without leaking
  • Washing for DS - probably this evening
  • Sort out DS's food box (all the crap he eats that we buy in bulk, but DH just dumps stuff in) - done
  • Find storage space for a crate of DS's toys so I can alternate, and clear a few out of the living room - in dining room temporarily
  • Find storage space for presents for FIL's 65th - done, but waiting for DS to snooze before I move them for safety
  • Dust and mop floor of study/spare room - done
  • Dust and hoover our bedroom - done
  • Wash bedding on floor of DS's room - after nap time
  • Finish WAH job - done

Also managed a S&S of the big bathroom and the downstairs loo!

The washing machine seal has been a bit, um, mangled by a plastic bit in my bra bag Hmm as it got trapped by the washing and the door. Think it should be okay, but have to re rinse all the washing if it still works - I'm running a cleaning wash now!

Engelsmeisje · 15/06/2012 12:16

sc my limit on MFP is about the same as yours and is far too small if I don?t do any exercise or movement. Is making me realize how much snacks are bumping up my total and also forcing me to make an effort to have rooibos tea instead of cappuccino ? I drink far too much coffee! I obviously need to listen to FL and do a bit more ?loving movement? everyday (or crack open the shred dvd Grin )

Pouring with rain here in Dutchland as well sc Sad

Good luck with your day of supply Maggie

swan Envy at screen free afternoon. DH has been on the sofa all week with ruptured calf muscle and the idiot box has been on constantly ?though I can?t talk as I?ve been MNing--

Heading to hospital this afternoon for physio appt for DS. Fx he won?t have to wear his helmet for much longer.

Off now to change my sheets?

BlueEyeshadow · 15/06/2012 13:53

Run dw
Sort out library books
Sort out tomato plants
Work!! - er, what's that?

likelucklove · 15/06/2012 13:55

lauren ah bless her, glad you didn't take our advice too. Hope she is better now.

swanthing and others Your dogs sound lovely, even if they are high maintenance! Why is it always the smaller dogs? My DM has a miniature dachshund that barks at DD constantly! There's a long explanation for it, but basically he thinks he's the alpha male in the house, are yours similar?

Blue Have a lovely weekend! Is he becoming a priest or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

curly Since its DP's first fathers day, I'm cutting out DADDY from cardboard, painting it, and taking a picture of her and putting it in an old photo frame - maybe something similar?

Hope your DS's hospital appointment goes well Engels

I'm very at your very done list Carpe - time to relax now!

DD is still poorly didn't get up until 11am :O And she went back to sleep half an hour ago, but builders are being noisy next door and she's at the stage where everything wakes her up! I can't do flying until she goes later so am sat in a very quiet house MNetting Grin

Baby step 14 - look at essay on how to use a calendar and sort it out
Mission for yesterday - toss out old cosmetics and tidy 27 things in DD's room
Mission for today - clean faucets

BlueEyeshadow · 15/06/2012 14:25

LLL - yes, in the CofE. He was ordained last year and this is "upgrading" to become a priest. Wink

ToffeeWhirl · 15/06/2012 15:08

Managed a few basic routines, but basically Flying has gone out the window because I have been trying to help DS1 with his homework, which has taken most of the day, apart from a much-wanted break when a friend called round. DS1 is not at all interested in doing any of the work, which means a lot of intervention from me. Would be easier to just do it myself Wink.

I told DS1 that if he worked hard today and got the work done, he'd have evenings and weekends off. Now he will have the homework hanging over him (and me) all weekend .

DH - in the spirit of Flylady (it's Date Night) - has booked his mum to come and babysit tonight so we can go out to dinner. Am looking forward to not having to think about KS3 stuff anymore.

Lauren Shock at your description of your Springer , although I'm sure he's very lovable.

Blue - congrats to your DB.

Got to go and motivate DS again.

CarpeJugulum · 15/06/2012 16:03

Urgh! No further list progress due to a power cut, but have been to ASDA instead and panickingly remembered Fathers Day on Sunday.

Have organised cards for DH, FIL and DF and texted BIL to try to organise pressie for FIL. DF can wait. DH's is sorted now.

sanguinechompa · 15/06/2012 16:10

Hope your ds's physio appointment went well Engelsmeijse Glad to know it's not just me who finds the MFP limit tough-going. I knew it would all depend on exercise somehow [resigned sigh]

Curlyfrizzball Must confess to succumbing to one cup of coffee this morning and paid the price afterwards because I felt awful. How did the fling boogie go?

Swan a pointer bitch. It was a working dog and trained as such. We used to go on annual training "retreats"! Don't think either breed as excitable and gorgeous as a springer though. Would have a dog like a shot if we lived in the country or next to a park but it's too built up here. Forgot to say in earlier postings "well done" for taking the time out to get your blood test done. It's all to easy to delay these things [looks shiftily at floor]. Hope the results trigger some sort of action on behalf of your doc.

Lauren you sound very organised with your meal planning! Hope your dd is getting better.

Safe travelling Blue and hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow.

Oh sympathies Toffee I know that "homework hanging over us" feeling all too well.

Likelucklove Sorry to hear your lo is still poorly. At least she had a bit of a lie-in.

Carpe hope you were gentle when gutting your dh's drawers Wink

Huge wing flaps to everyone else and have a great weekend!!

Ta da:
Morning routine, inc dw, wm, s&s, downstairs hotspots, rabbits. done
Relocate/establish sewing area NOPE
Office work (only 1.5 hrs) done
Bank done
Post office done
Quick supermarket shop done
Prep supper (fish tonight) done two fish pies - mini one for dd, frozen big one
General tidy up done (cleaner has cleaned so bits of house quite shiny)
BOUDOIR!!!!!!!!! half hour
Hwk supervision in progress
Evening routine nearly finished early
Sort money/numbers/food for baby-sitter etc done
Rare evening out with dh!

Humorous rabbit incidents of the day (it's the black one that's the joker):

  • rabbit manoeuvred it's rear end rather too enthusiastically in to a holly bush and shot back out at high speed
-rabbit managed to lay across my lower legs while I was kneeling in front of cage trying to clean it out -found rabbit 'swinging' (as in a hammock) in the netting on top of it's outside enclosure
  • when dd was on floor on all floors just now, demonstrating a gym position, rabbit ran in from garden at high speed and jumped on her back. Grin

Be back in a mo with links. Posting early because dh and I are off out shortly on an entirely unromantic evening over at a Swedish friend's house to watch the match! So I will 'see' you all in the morning.

And [peers sternly over pince nez] if you lot are hell bent on partying in the naughty corner tonight, try and clear up the empty bottles and fag ends before you go ....

Well done everyone! You've made it through another week! Hope all your beds are made and you've drunk loads of water.

Tomorrow's baby-step, number 16, for Sat 16th is one you can ignore imho
(and we advise not going anywhere near Big Tent)

No zones or missions because it is the weekend.

Saturday's focus is family fun day

Hope those of you celebrating Father's Day this weekend have a lovely time!

Bloody teenagers!!! Angry

Brices · 15/06/2012 19:47

Thank you for your words of experience re: IUDs. Veering towards the plain copper one at the mo...

Had awful morning at a huge supermarket, took forever, babies crying and was totally exhausted at the end. Must endeavour to shop online.

However, have managed mission (cheated and used old electric toothbrush and my new friend vinegar) and spent time cleaning DD's bedroom windows. Have decided to add DS bedroom onto zone 4.

Have a good w/e everyone!

Engelsmeisje · 15/06/2012 19:47

What's up PA ?

Ta da...

food shopping
DS hospital appt
rewashed the washing that's been in the machine since sunday Blush td and put away
washed playmat covered in vomit
washing up done and sink shining
changed bed
emptied kitchen and nappy bin
day one of shred!

MFP is turning into a bit of a competition obsession in our household. DH has signed up but it's really not fair because he's a foot taller than me (and 40kilos heavier) he gets 1000 calories per day more than me! So he can be a lazy arse, eat lots of shit, do no exercise and still be under! meanwhile I've done the first day of shred and am still 130 cal over! Annoying since I have a healthy BMI and he doesn't.

Still, it is definitely continuing to help me step away from the biscuit tin Smile

And at least I can do some flying this evening by derinking lots of water while DH sinks a beer Grin

Enjoy your evening Toffee - very Envy

Managed to intercept DHs card that I ordered online for father's day. It says I heart Papa with a photo of DS inside the heart. So cute! I never get my dad anything for father's day. he always goes to France to watch the Le Mans 24 hour race so basically spends a week getting pissed and having fry ups and bbqs...reckon that's his father's day present (which he pays for himself Grin )

Night all (must step away from the computer!)

likelucklove · 15/06/2012 21:01

blue ah ha thank you, I don't practise so have no idea!

Toffee I'm sure my DM doing my DBrother's homework is the only thing that got him some GCSEs ;)

sc I'm, excuse me, 'loling' at your rabbit and DD Grin

You ok pa?

Have you also gone round your kitchen scanning food engels? Blush Men are so lucky, DP eats shit and drinks and he's still a rake!

To Do

Morning routine
Hoover
Put bag in attic
Baby step 14 - look at essay on how to use a calendar and sort it out
Mission for yesterday - toss out old cosmetics and tidy 27 things in DD's room
Mission for today - clean faucets
Clean out bag and purse
Before bed routine

Having a nice Wine or 5 tonight, who's joining me? Luckily, only want to lose 1lb a week ATM so I can sneak in a cheeky bottle ;)

WisteriaWoman · 15/06/2012 21:28

OK we have had 20 friends and neighbours over for drinks this evening and I have cleaned the house till it's sparkling all thanks to our beloved FLY lady. I"ve been listening to her all day on YouTube and she's helped me FLY around the house. However after having drunk too many glasses of wine this evening Wine x 5 I'm not up to shining my sink..... Wooppss. I''m off to bed to read "50 Shades of Grey" Wink
