Wink

DD2's spots were ust a heat rash, but unforunately she has that, because she has a fever from yet another ear infection (the 3rd this year), so she's dosed up with ABs & ibruprofen and in bed. I am about to panic buy an absolute tonne of work clothes from Next & M&S and actually pay for speedy delivery (I am usually far too scroogy to do that!) - I might be able to get into town on sunday, but that's leaving it a bit too last minute for my liking (I start back on tuesday)

carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 14:10

I hereby invite you all to party with me in the evening of the big day Grin You get the best deal as you get the party with Wine Wink

bessie poor dd2. I am glad she doesn't have the pox but not delighted to hear she has another ear infection. Hopefully the doc has caught it fast this time and she (and you) won't suffer too much.

I hate panic buying clothes. I usually make some poor decisions when I do that. Try to be really honest with yourself when you try stuff on.

Which days will you be working bessie?

Grin

I will just be working tues&wed to start, then thurs as well in June. I figure if I panic buy online today, I can get it tomorrow, try it on a few times & then return the stuff I don't want to store on sunday.

educatingarti · 09/05/2012 14:46

Back from lunch date

Brain is on a definite go slow today!

I've eaten the last of the rhubarb already! Grin

Carrots. I'm glad you have booked your birthday meal! I'm sure people will come. You have got some really good strategies for handling your ds's difficulties! I love pretending to kiss the collar better!

Sorry your dd is poorly Bessie and I hope you get the clothes thing sorted. My clothes shopping has been revolutionised since I discovered the Debenhams (free) personal shopper!

carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 16:52

I have heard the personal shoppers are great. Does it change the sort of stuff you buy for yourself? I have lots of self inflicted rules for clothes. I imagine everyone does. Eg must have sleeve. No hugh necks. No really low necks. Must have a waist. Etc etc. Do they go by that or go back to the drawing board?

OP posts:
educatingarti · 09/05/2012 17:05

Well it is interesting. They take account of what you say you want and the purpose/type of clothing eg smart office or smart casual or casual or whatever. Then while you sit with a magazine and a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits they scour the shop floor finding stuff and bring it to you to try on in a large comfortable changing room. However, because they have a different "eye" to you they pick stuff I sometimes wouldn't have looked at twice and then when I try it on I can see it looks really fantastic!

If you said no really low necks (and I do too) they might say "well try this (low neck) on with this vest top underneath" etc, so it gives you an extra dimension to things. It definitely got me to branch out and try other/new stuff/styles. If you don't like what they suggest than there is no obligation to buy. The woman I see is fairly honest too with whether she thinks things suit or not - no real flannel - which I like.

Thinks I like:

Sitting down with my feet up and being waited on
Another person with a trained eye's perspective on what looks good.
Not being over-faced by too much choice (I can trail my local shopping mall and rapidly lose the will to live!)
Being able to spend, say, two hours shopping and come away with, say, 8 or 9 items I really like and know I will wear.(you don't have to buy this much - it's just that I tend to save up and go maybe once a year)
The way people comment about a lot of the items and "how nice" I look.
The way it has helped me be a lot more confident about finding things that fit and suit on my own (esp in charity shops!)

Scout19075 · 09/05/2012 17:10

Right -- Toddler is boxed up and stamped, he just needs to be addressed. Who'd like him?

educatingarti · 09/05/2012 17:19

I'll have him as long as I can post him back again after a week !

carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 17:23

I will take him scout but you get him back for the teen years!

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 09/05/2012 17:36

I'm exhausted. Willing to have him back in time for swimming tomorrow, just want someone to do bedtime & breakfast so I can sleep.

educatingarti · 09/05/2012 17:39

You're on, but I'll have to swap you a GCSE Physics lesson tonight and planning an English lesson tomorrow for a 10 year old with autism and suspected ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia!

Scout19075 · 09/05/2012 19:12

Um, if we did an even swap, arti, I'd definitely never sleep! Grin

Toddler's out and I've just collapsed.

carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 20:17

Ds has upset my laptop. He is not allowed on it at all so it is a big misdemeanor. I also lost him at school today. Turns out he had walked home. There are no pavements on some of the walk and we are just about the last house before the buses start picking them up ie right on the edge of the village. I thought someone had pinched him. It was awful.
Since then we have had a better time. We pottered up and down the street on our bikes. I had to pump my tyres up and i think mine needs oiled.
It blew the cobwebs away and i could at least pretend i was on a horse!
Dd had to do a fire safety thing for homework, fivuring out all the ways out of the house. It has freaked me out. Its important to do but it has given me the creeps.
Sorry about typos. I am on my phone again.

I need a pointy stick.

bessie26 · 09/05/2012 21:16

I've never done a personal shopper thingy arti & thought months ago that it would be a good thing to do before I went back to work, but completely forgot about it until this morning.

You must have been beside yourself carrots - what was his reason for doing it?

carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 21:23

Bessie there has been lots of chat from the mums about the fact they can walk home alone after the summer. Many of us, depending on our children and where we live are not keen to let them go solo. Others have steady kids and relatively safe journey so arent worried. I have unpredictable child and tricky route so am not happy. I think he thought i would be proud he had been so grown up. Instead it has shown me just how immature he is! He was very upset when he realised i was frantic not delighted.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 09/05/2012 21:27

He wouldnt have slipped out of sight if the school hadnt changed the pick up venue. I used to collect him on a grassy side area away from the road. Now they insist we collect at the front by the main road. It is too busy and chaotic and way too dangerous.

OP posts:
bessie26 · 09/05/2012 21:30

Well at least the fact that he was upset about worrying you means he won't be doing it again.

I must go dry up & shine the sink. We had oven pizza tonight & it always sticks to the pizza trays. I think I will end up putting them next to the sink for DH to wash up tomorrow! Grin

educatingarti · 09/05/2012 22:25

Bessie - I'd definitely recommend personal shopper - especially if your time is limited!

I need to go to bed

Night night all!

Scout19075 · 10/05/2012 08:05

Another headache. Argh.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 10/05/2012 09:16

Morning all, I had to focus my efforts on the DC yesterday so didn't get on here much.
DS is o.k. so I have sent him back to school today and DD to nursery. We have rain so all got a bit wet.

I need to try and get the house in some kind of order today after letting things slip a bit over the last day or so.

Hope everyone is alright.

carrotsandcelery · 10/05/2012 09:31

Morning everyone. I am still stuck with my phone so apologies in advance.
Scout is your sleep still being broken? Or are you not relaxing due to ts's new sleep arrangements.
Cats i am glad ds is ok. These things are frightening.

Morning all.
I hope you are all OK
So far I seem to be getting on with things today!
