Come inside for a Brew and a Biscuit and maybe even a Wine if the mood takes you.

A thread for chatter and nonsense Grin

Back form bank/shop and teaching student 1. Waiting for student 2 to arrive. Trying to chill fora few minutes!

Scout - sorry about your head. Can you take anything for it now or are you still feeling sick. My GP prescribes ace migraine "wafers" that melt in the mouth and you absorb them with saliva so you don't end up being sick. If you have a lot of migraines maybe you could ask your GP for some? I think they are quite expensive though so GP may need persuading?

Carrots - well done on your creative successes!

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 19:32

Thanks Arti. I was on my phone and it doesn't load very well so by the time I have loaded the thread and read it I have run out of time wherever I am hanging around - hence the speedy phone speak posting. Sorry!

Scout I hope you are feeling better. It sounds horrific. Toddler groups are an assault on the senses at the best of times.

I have had a very busy but lovely day. The lunch I went to was great and I am considering trying to pluck up the courage to invite people out for one for my birthday next week. I am always terrified no one will want to come and I will feel a divot for inviting them.

I am going to be brave though as the worst they can say is NO and they might say YES [eeeek emoticon]

Took TS about half-an-hour tonight.

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 20:12

That is not bad Scout. He is definitely getting the message.

It has slowly and, not without distress, dawned on me that I can't put ds to bed yet as I have to collect dd from an activity and dh is not home to watch ds while I do it.

I have texted him asking if he will be home but he hasn't replied. I have phoned him and he is not answering. If this is because he is driving to collect dd I will be mighty annoyed that I have kept ds up for no reason. It could be because he is stuck in a meeting, in which case he can't help it.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 20:30

Yes but tonight we had full on tears. Proper tears, not just the whimpering "No Mum, no bed." It went against my instincts to go for a cuddle but I knew it was tired cry and he quickly stopped when he realized I wasn't going in. A minute or two after he magically stopped I could hear him pulling up his covers and snuggling down.

Any word from MrCarrots?

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 20:51

Poor you Scout. It feels horrid when you have to do that.

When I was teaching I taught a wee lad who was being horribly bullied (racial so the worst sort). I found him crying one day and couldn't help myself and gave him a hug. He sobbed all over me and I was later terrified I would get reported as we were not allowed to touch the pupils, but it went against all my instincts to see a child that young, that upset, and not to offer human comfort.

Luckily he didn't report me and he still stops in the street to chat if he sees me now. He is a big grown up pharmacist now. His parents run a takeaway and if he sees me in there we get freebies too Grin

No word from MrCarrots but dd is home and ds is on his way to bed. Dd is procrastinating instead of going to bed and I am in danger of losing it so hiding on here to calm down.

Mr Carrots has just phoned to say he is on his way home.

I am considering breaking into the secret stash of chocolate.

Anyone fancy a square or two?

OP posts:
educatingarti · 08/05/2012 21:01

Oooh chocolate - me please!
I don't have a secret stash of chocolate - ever...
because if I have chocolate, it get eaten, all of it, straight away! [lacks self-control emoticon]

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 21:07

I have to hide it or everyone else eats it Arti.

I hope that I forget and then rejoice when I find it but, sadly, I rarely forget!

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 21:08

Oh, chocolate, yes please!

I knew it was tired as when I was making his dinner he climbed into his chair, rested Bunny & Creamy on his tray and then rested his face on them, his eyes practically shut. Having his tv before bed he was practically asleep on my lap.

Today's toddler group was a music & movement one. It must be a program given the CD that was being used. Toddler loved it -- a chance to run, jump, "skip", clap, stomp, etc. It was 20-30 minutes of movement, then 10 minutes for drinks and snacks then 10 minutes of typical toddler songs/rhymes. I had told him before we went in that if he wasn't having fun we could leave and if he didn't like it we wouldn't go back again. After group, in the car, I asked him if he had fun and should we go next week and I got "Yes, again please." I'm still quite peeved that they took away the gross-motor free-play one on Monday afternoons but this group was good, too, if focused (which has it's advantages and disadvantages).

Tomorrow is Tots in Guiding village in the morning then we're going to our HE meet-up and having a Jubilee party.

Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 21:08

There's a weird animal noise outside. I'm a bit scared....

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 21:10

Can you see anything through the window?

What sort of animal noise?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 21:20

Can't see anything out the window. Across the road we have a "wasteland/green space." We do sometimes have fox going down the path/through the wasteland so am thinking it was a fox. But it was strange -- definitely not your house cat/lap dog.

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 21:33

A fox has a funny bark, not really like a dog's.

Hi all, we have been sat around waiting in A&E all evening. DS was playing out on his scooter and fell off. He has a gash on his forehead. They glued it together and put those strip things across it. FX he is o.k. he is now home and in bed. I think I am in a state of Shock

Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 21:42

Yeah, it was definitely a fox -- very similar to that link.

The first fox I encountered in the UK was one I almost hit about five months after I started driving in this country (so about February, around 9 p.m., so pitch black). Scared the cr@p out of me and I was shocked at how big it was (it would have done serious damage to my car as I was doing 60 mph).

Scout19075 · 08/05/2012 21:42

Oh dear, Cats!

educatingarti · 08/05/2012 21:45

Sorry to hear about DS's escapade Cats! Glad he seems to be OK now.

I am cooking (again). It's the final lot of quinoa burgers in the Yorkshire pudding tin (with baking parchment this time!)

Then I've done a really quick and easy rhubarb, ginger and orange. I love it and could eat about 10 portions straight off (but I'm going to try not to!!)

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 21:46

Oh Cats. ((((hugs)))) That must have been a terrible shock. Is dh with you? The best thing is to have a warm sweet drink (sugary tea) and discuss it with dh or us as often as you need to to sort it all out in your head.

If they have sent him home then they are not worried about him. What advice have they given?

OP posts:
CatsSleepAnywhere · 08/05/2012 21:50

They gave us a little card about head injuries with things to watch out for. If he is o.k. he is aloud to go to school.

I'm going to have a chocolate drink.

carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2012 21:51

Good idea with the drink.

They clearly don't think you need to worry. Much, much easier said than done though when it is your child.

He will have a great time showing it off at school though Grin

OP posts:
CatsSleepAnywhere · 08/05/2012 21:57

I think the mothering side of me wants to keep him home tomorrow and look after him but I will have to see how he and I feel in the morning.

educatingarti · 08/05/2012 22:05

How old is your ds Cats?

I am going to be as so0on as things have finished cooking. The burgers will be ready shortly but the rhubarb may take ages!

bessie26 · 08/05/2012 22:06

eeeek! poor DS cats - fx he wakes up excited about showing his friends his "stitches" Grin

scout we've had a fox in the garden at 2pm on a saturday afternoon! (we live near some heathland, but it is the other side of a busy road!) We have always quite liked foxes (Fantastic Mr Fox was one of DH & my favourite childhood books) But one of my friends lives in London & came home from holiday to find one had got into her house through the catflap & had been all round the house, leaving a disgusting mess behind him. I'm not quite so keen on them now!

CatsSleepAnywhere · 08/05/2012 22:08

Arti he is 8.

I'm off to bed too.

Night all x
