I haven't finished reading the thread that Long linked to yesterday - it is huge - but this advice was offered

"A variant on "fifteen minutes at a time" that I really like is "twenty things": eg wash up twenty items, every lid and teaspoon counting as an item, or tidy away twenty items from a messy table/shelf, every paperclip and stamp and receipt counting as an item. Forty items turns out to be about as much washing-up as can be stacked beside the sink in all the houses we've lived in, so getting half-way through that number makes the kitchen look perceptibly better. And today by the time I'd tidied twenty things from my exceedingly messy (ie totally covered) desk this afternoon, it was almost tidy, so I was inspired to do another two or three then moved the remaining papers into one pile and it looked like something I'd be happy for the rest of the world to see. Twenty has special powers.

I am also currently enjoying keeping a record of things I've done each day (sort of the more cheerful cousin of the to-do list) - I have set up idonethis.com/ to email me every evening prompting me to reply listing things I've done. It's satisfying to see the done laundry and shopping and cooked meals and so on listed there in front of me. And it makes me think, "if I just tidy twenty things from such-and-such a place I'll have another line for my list..."

And I thought both ideas were excellent. We do the ta das sort of already but the 20 things seemed a good variation for me anyway.

I am off on the school run. I will be back on and off later.

Hi all, I have returned from my day out of the house going here and there. Am quite proud of myself getting out and about although DH was with me the first 2 times. The last little outing I did was on my own and involved clothes shopping (something I rarely do) I had birthday money to spend so that was a good excuse! Grin

The only Flying I have done is get dressed and make beds.

{{Hugs to those who need them}}

I am sat having a Brew now, DH is on school run this arvo.

For those that know more about these things, do you think I could make this soup and freeze it without the pasta twirls and then when I thaw/cook it add the pasta? Because even if I half the receipe that's still a lot of soup for one.

carrotsandcelery · 09/03/2012 15:40

Scout I don't see any reason why not. It may separate when it is freezing but will merge back together when it is reheated.

I have FINALLY posted my ebay parcel. Grin

Don't know if anyone's around at the mo. Anyway I'm off to the kitchen for a bit so hope to come back later on.

kids all bathed and in pjs colouring
school uniform in WM

tonights dinner is lentil shepherds pie with spring greens followed by homemeade rice pud

Scout19075 · 09/03/2012 16:58

Tonight's dinner is pasta -- easiest meal to make meatless as well as meat-filled. Toddler and I will be eating together since I don't know when MrScout is getting home (though he's in YOUT today so the commute won't be nearly so grueling but it's all driving).

Haven't done much this afternoon but did do menu planning and have started shopping list. Have decided to try a soup receipe and freeze it for lunches and make pasta sauce and freeze that, too. While the bits and pieces needed for meals is little, because of what's in the 'fridge/cabinets, the things for the bulk makes are adding up. Depending on when MrScout gets home I might go to do the shopping so I can cook this weekend (since it looks like he's going to have work over the weekend, too Sad).

Toddler had a three hour nap today and has only been up since 4. He looks tired still so am going to try his normal bedtime and see how it goes.

I think I will be getting DD in PJ's early tonight, she has been kicking off about silly things so I am putting it down to tiredness.
The family are fed so I am going to do my dinner next. I'm cheating and having a microwave meal. They had burgers (I'm not keen). --don't tell the healthy eating police--

Will be around on and off now hopefully! Grin
