Flinging our way through the chaos: February’s Fledgling Flyers

LinzerTorte · 31/01/2012 08:38

Welcome to the February edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat babysteps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, Brew, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Chestnut I must admit I haven't done any proper zone cleaning for months, although my decluttering and cleaning do tend to merge into one sometimes, e.g. I'll empty a drawer to declutter it and give it a quick wipe while it's empty.

Not much in the way of FLYing done today, but I've finished the job I was working on so hope to start restoring order at the weekend. I turned down some more paid work this evening as it would have meant working all weekend and would probably have meant cancelling a get-together with friends, although as it turned out it's been cancelled anyway as the friend who was going to host it is ill. Maybe we'll manage a trip to Bratislava this weekend after all.

**

Saturday's links

Saturday's babystep is to add an inspirational page to your control journal.

No missions as it's the weekend. Saturday is Family Fun Day and your reminders are here.

Not much done today:

  • Stew made for me and dumplings added to yesterday's for DH & DD.
  • Swept and washed the kitchen floor

I need to get a new under cupboard light bulb for the kitchen and fuse for my car's rear screen but I'll get them in the morning after I've dropped DD at a friends house as they are off to the cinema!

BlueEyeshadow · 10/02/2012 22:08

Waves to all. Have finished the bulk of the project I've been working on and got an email from the same client offering more work later in the month. Yay! So have had whisky to celebrate.

Yawns. See you tomorrow.

swanthingafteranother · 10/02/2012 22:55

[triple yawn] spent most of today trying not to fall asleep, which suited dcs quite well as they were ill and dozy too..A lot of time cuddled up with dd reading Little Women to her and watching video clips of rescue dogs Blush

However
done
well organised (I love you Freezer) stir fry with pork and leftover veggies, and noodles
lovely nourishing lunch fried potatoes, bacon and veggies for kids
enquired into agricultural learning/small holding courses for family farm input
(I know nil about farming so thought I should start)
long conversations with family members in Ireland
cnverstation with friend
measured up for utility room (venturing outside, not for long)
agreed with dh that we were both too tired to even talk to each other for more than ten minutes Hmm after dealing with children this eve...I've only just crawled out of dd's bed...
dw on

otherwise, nil points

Toffee have a lovely visit, hope your mum enjoys seeing you all
Whoknows well done on zone cleaning (you seem to be doing loads!), gardening club and painting doors
Bitchy not suprised you have had tough week, though it can only get better from now on, and think of the advantages of not having to rush out to swimming etc Wink Enjoy a weekend of no ds, if that is at all poss.
waves to all and membershipcard I think Feb is a bit of a month for feeling left behind, I certainly do..

ToffeeWhirl · 11/02/2012 00:33

Thanks, Swan. Am Envy that you have a girl you can share 'Little Women' with. By the way, DS2 is loving the 'Naughty Little Sister' stories, which I bought because you reminded me about them - thank you.

Well, in spite of all my attempts to keep the house tidy before we leave tomorrow, it has descended into chaos again. Luckily, it is fairly superficial chaos, so I hope I can sort it before we leave in the morning.

Cut DS1's hair myself tonight (as he missed out on his hairdresser appt). It looks like a bowl Sad. Will have to try again to persuade him to go to a proper hairdresser.

I don't know if I'll be able to get online much from my Mum's, so wish you happy Flying in the meantime and look forward to catching up on all your news on my return.

BitchyKicksAss · 11/02/2012 09:44

Well it's saturday, it is supposed to be family fun day. Although here it is get through the day without killing ds.

A better night's sleep but still up several times. Glad i got an early night last night. Ds is up and dressed. Has been told to eat breakfast but s i discovered he didnt eat the tea he was given last night am not holding my breath that he actually has.

Oh and as i have done very little i now have a day of panicking for getting very thing sorted for going away tomo. BlushHmm So today's list looks like this:
Laundry - lots of, including several loads of ds' bedding
Go get ds' glasses
Find rucksack
Pack ds' stuff for week away
Pack my stuff for over night drop off
Sort out several sets of training stuff.
Make sure have comp fees/kit stuff ready for tuesday
Take ds out to watch his team mates play
try not to kill ds
Try not to get cross and shouty
Try not to drink too much coffee
Empty car out
Check lights/fluids and give quick wash to essential areas (number plates/lights) cba to wash whole car and amazing what you can achieve in 30secs with a wet wipe Blush
And then look at the other list that needs doing.

Right I suppose getting up is a good place to start. best make coffee and that my first job and then the first load of washing. Can figure everything out from there.

Hope you all have lovely days.

Lifebeginsatforty · 11/02/2012 11:08

Hope you get everything done Bitchy, and that DS sorts his sleeping out soon.

Membership we all fall by the wayside at times. Just jump back in again. As soon as you've achieved one thing it'll make you feel good again.

Whoknows you had a really busy day yesterday. Hope you get more time for relaxing today.

My turn to get up this morning (lie in tomorrow).
Ta da:
DW
Washing up done
DC dressed and breakfasted
Lounge rescued
DC entertained
...

Being summoned have to go.

sanguinechompa · 11/02/2012 11:23

Hellloooo everyone! Hope you are all OK and keeping warm!

It's me (SC) - new nickname anticipating Lenten diet!!

Sorry to have been absent from thread for so long. Stayed in UK for longer than anticipated and only returned last Friday. There was just so much that needed taking care of. Need to take some time out and catch up with all your posts and see what you have all been up to. But hope you are all thriving and Flying high.

The funeral mass was lovely. Just what my ma would have wanted. Lots of relatives attended and it was all a great comfort. Worst bit was leaving Blighty for return journey when the finality of it all hit me a bit, but that's to be expected I suppose.

Fortunately, have been very busy since our return with barely a moment to spare, including a school meeting to extend our mahoosive grovelling apologies to dd's teachers and headmistress for extended absence (even though dd did 3 hrs hwk a day whilst in UK). Loads of work for her to catch up on.

Bit of a disaster now though because dd came home from school yesterday feeling really ill with headache, sore throat and a very high temperature. She is normally so lively and talkative, and whatever this is (horrible virus) has knocked her for six. She has been completely silent, lying on the sofa, and hasn't eaten anything since yesterday lunch time. It's a rather unnerving contrast to her usual self. Terrible timing too given her recent long absence from school, and the fact that next week is the last week before Carnaval half-term holiday. Here's hoping she will recover quickly.

Anyway, must go and make a list of everything that needs doing today. Still haven't unpacked properly and have mountain of laundry and still working my way through huge pile of thank you letters to people who attended funeral or sent condolences etc.

But first just wanted to send mahoosive thanks to Bitchy and Toffee for 'falling out of nest thread' last month. Don't know how you managed to keep on top of massive Jan Flying thread as well Toffee - an amazing feat. (What happened to it btw? Has it been absorbed in to this one??)

And thank you to Linzer for running this thread. Tis v. good of you. I'm happy to volunteer for March if no-one else wants to do it.

And thank you again everyone for all your messages and pms of support. They were really, really appreciated.

Bbl!

droitwichmummy · 11/02/2012 11:42

Lovely to see you back sc. I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were getting on. I think Thanks are in order x

I am jumping back in after being missing for most of the week Blush Chestnut - which android app are you using? I have finaly got a posh new phone and was thinking I could get organised when I am dozing on the train each morning.

Off work for half term now.
Half term jobs - sort DS room, finish sorting spare room (really glad I made so much progress on this last weekend as DS is in there most days so we have more room for all 3 of us to do our own thing)

Done so far today:
breakfast
WM on

To do
get dressed Blush
lunch
start DS room
15 mins in kitchen
clean out hamster
15 mins ironing
evening routine

That will do - no idea how long will be in DS room. It needs decluttering and moving round. DH at work so that will help.

Incidentally, if anyone is looking for small storage tubs for things like pokemon figure, moshi monsters etc, Poundland had some yesterday. These look quite good although I think they had some others I can't find on-line.

Back later for update

scattyspice · 11/02/2012 13:20

Hi all. Just popping in between swimming and ballet Smile.

To do:
buy food +dvd player
laundry
ex dvd (if time)

elliepac · 11/02/2012 14:03

Afternoon all.

Firstly, it so lovely to see you back sc. I am glad things went as well as they could in the circumstances.

I have severe cba today. I thought i would wait to do the Tesco run until it warmed up. It hit the dizzy heights of -5 at 11 so off I wentGrin. That is all i have achieved and all i am likely to achieve tbh. Ds is being picked up shortly to go and sleep at a schoolfriend's house so i am going to have a quick tidy round and then watch a film with dd before we go out for tea.

This, however, is the calm before the storm. It is dd's birthday on thursday. Soft play party for school friends and family tea party here so house needs to be sparkling. I have however cunningly booked the cleaner to come on her birthday whilst we are at soft play but some major tidying is needed.

Back later.

NickNacks · 11/02/2012 14:26

Wonderful to have you back sc Thanks

Quick list as having a CBA day so hoping it will motivate me.

Wash on
Clean clothes away
Wash hair
Hoover stairs and downstairs
Tidy, tidy, tidy
Get boys to tidy the hall
Dinner
Dw on
Sit on arse

:) have great Saturdays everyone!

BitchyKicksAss · 11/02/2012 14:28

Lovely to have you back SC

But the big weekly shop is an achievement Ellie - especially middle of the day on sat.

List up date. Hmm
Laundry - lots of, including several loads of ds' bedding 3rd load on
Go get ds' glasses done
Find rucksack
Pack ds' stuff for week away
Pack my stuff for over night drop off
Sort out several sets of training stuff.
Make sure have comp fees/kit stuff ready for tuesday
Take ds out to watch his team mates play Will do in about half hour
try not to kill ds Oh it is close Angry
Try not to get cross and shouty FAIL
Try not to drink too much coffee FAIL
Empty car out
Check lights/fluids and give quick wash to essential areas (number plates/lights)
And then look at the other list that needs doing.

Am not a happy bunny. Think i might be suffering from stuck in house with very active housebound ds syndrome.

Neenook · 11/02/2012 14:51

Still flapping and failing Sad

Have just made chocolate cake though Grin

dizzyday07 · 11/02/2012 16:08

DD went to the cinema this morning as it was a schoolfriend's birthday treat followed by MacDonalds! DH and I took the chance to go out for a quick pub lunch which was nice.

He's now esconced on the sofa with a beer in his hand and rugby on the TV. DD is off playing with the girl next door and I'm trying to decide whether to do the ironing or cut up some fabric for a quilt I'm going to make

swanthingafteranother · 11/02/2012 17:33

SC we've missed you so much! I did post, but Mumsnet did their going offline for a few mins just now, and it went into ether. Don't let school bully you over dd's work, she must have had an emotionally exhausting time too and 3 hours of homework a day is equivalent to two days of school work imho.

Mine are sick too now. Well ds1 is full of beans, and ds2 just plain irritating not so ill but not so well (probably like your ds *Bitchy) but dd is lying in her bed looking tragic.

Seriously CBA, loads of cr**P everywhere I can't be bothered to deal with.
Have cooked lots of delicious germ busting food though (to add to squalor)

Extended Family stuff going on putting me in a tizzy but otherwise all are well, just plans, well, they do your head in...

todo
if I do nothing else, put away clothes on the landing
and remake my bed (although I suppose I shall have to do that eventually or sleep on the mattress, a lot to be said for removing sheets to force one's hand!)

swanthingafteranother · 11/02/2012 17:39

PS. boys have had exercise today at least! Sunshine and frost here.
Like Neenook baking has filled the vacuum. Rockcakes here not choc though.
Dizzy Rugby too, ,though ds2 has not yet learnt to enjoy beer Smile

curry slow cooking

Halfterm Halfterm Halfterm - [wards off all thoughts of what needs to be done] with this simple remedy. As long as no-one comes round...Hmm

LinzerTorte · 11/02/2012 21:02

Evening all,

Apologies for posting and running again - normal service will be resumed once the DC are back at school (and DH at work) on Monday. Just wanted to say that it's lovely to see you back SC; glad to hear your trip back to the UK went as well as these kinds of things can go, but sorry to hear that your DD isn't well.

Sunday's links

The babystep is one that you should probably be able to ignore, providing that you didn't sign up for FlyLady's e-mails in the first place: delete all her e-mails from your inbox.

No missions again. Sunday is the day to renew your spirit.

Off to check on the children (all six of them, all sleeping in one bed - or rather not sleeping; DS has apparently been telling them ghost stories and we've had to leave the light on as the littlest neighbour is frightened) and then off to bed myself. The tiling is finally finished; it felt strangely sad to say goodbye to the tiler - the DC loved him, and I shall miss having someone to make tea and coffee for Hmm - but the bathroom and kitchen are looking good now. Night all. Smile

Sorry I haven't read the thread but I hope that everyone is ok!

DP just took his stuff and moved out, and is coming back for the rest tomorrow so I think I'll be back on Monday, have a lovely weekend everyone!
