Just got very excited about delivery of new filter for hoover Blush

Didn't get much coursework done yesterday as tesco man came, then my dad, then it was lunchtime, and then my friend came round in need of company because she'd just left her ds at preschool for the first time. Then I rushed to homebase to buy lightbulbs for my kitchen and then it was time for school pick up. So very busy but still have doom hanging over me. And this morning I spent ages cooking veggie lasagnes for dinner and the freezer so haven't done any today either Blush

HMHB and anyone else do you fancy sharing meal plans for inspiration? I actually love cooking when I have good fresh ingredients and spend time doing it but more often than not laziness kicks in and I have to try to conjur something up out of what's in the cupboard/freezer and manky week-old veg. Am going to try to plan better though as it is nice knowing you have nice dinners every night and also good to know what you are using the other half a bag of spinach for instead of it festering in the fridge!

AnonymousBird · 05/01/2012 14:01

Blush sorry Dedalus! It's not normally that bad.... (she says!)

Meal plans - when I do meal plan, it makes life SO MUCH EASIER. Other times, I simply don't get around to it. But I have to say, when faced with an odd concoction of stuff in the fridge, and no idea for a supper, I tell you what, just go to the MN Food boards and there is always someone with an amazing idea.

I did it just two days ago - a leek, a pepper, a chilli and some celery. I didn't know where to start - a lovely MNer said add chorizo and beans and make a stew and I did. And, though I say it myself, it was bloody lovely, with enough to freeze for another meal. Alleluyah!

Yes I'm up for sharing meal plans, we are stuck in a major food rut here - largely because it has to be something that can be made in advance and left to bubble away, or just whacked in the oven and hauled out when it is ready. DH takes a dim view of dinner with no meat or fish

This is ours for the next week
Thurs - beef casserole + jackets (from freezer)
Fri - steak and chips
Sat - paella thing with chicken thighs and no seafood
Sun - roast lamb
Mon - salmon
Tues - meatballs and pasta
Wed - cottage pie
Thurs - sausage + tomato pasta

Lunches are normally a combination of leftovers and sandwiches depending on who is where and doing what.

DS2 is a proper cling-on this week, I am getting very little done. For the rest of today I need to

TO DO
Pop to Sainsbury's for milk and potatoes
Another load of washing
Sort post pile
Online banking
Dinner and clear up
Boys bath and bed
Take down tree and other decorations

AnonymousBird · 05/01/2012 16:47

DH used to be very sceptical about a lack of fish or meat. However, I got the Hugh F-W VEG book and it is fantastic, so mostly we have at least one, if not two meat free nights using his very tasty recipes.... even DH is impressed.

I did a bit of a freezer audit today (as it was completely jammed!) and have found several bagged supper meals, ie. goulash/stews to go with jacket or mash or make a pie which was quite nice.... PLUS several portions of soup and a whole chicken and a leg of lamb (hurrah!) so that is at least half a dozen suppers, some weekend lunches and two sunday roasts taken care of....

Meal plan for this week was/is:
Tues - Hotchpotch Leek/Pepper/Celery/Chilli/Chorizo/Bean Stew with Mash (Thanks MN!)
Weds - Goulash and Jacket
Thurs - Pork steaks plus sautes and salad
Friday - Eggs (probably omelette and tomato salad)
Saturday - Chicken quarters plus rice and leeks
Sunday - OUT
Monday - HFW's VEG book, not sure what yet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2012 17:55

My meal plan began on Wednesday this week, as I don't meal plan when I'm on holiday.

Wednesday - veggie and tofu stir fry with rice
Thursday - cheese and leek pie with spiced peas
Friday - noodle soup (using the other half of the vege from the stir fry yesterday)
Saturday - paneer and vege curry with naan bread, minty yoghurt, coconut chutney and (bought) onion bhajis
Sunday - veggie sausages, roast potatoes and carrots, savoy cabbage, yorkies (bought because I just can't make them) and gravy / raspberry crisp (frozen raspberries) and custard
Monday - homemade wedges, frozen peas or salad and omelettes (the vegetarians) or something meaty (carnivores)
Tuesday - no idea!

A really busy day at work today and I'm shattered. Dp has cooked the pie so I just need to prep the vege. I doubt I'll do much tonight but I do want to browse the web for some new lamps - any links to nice ones appreciated!

Bird - let me know what you think of HFW's book as I think I might like to get it.

AnonymousBird · 05/01/2012 18:23

Remus - so far HFW's book is great, and that is converting sworn carnivores as well. We've tried half a dozen things (and picked ideas from several others to adapt) and have barely scratched the surface of what we want to try!

A really good selection is already on his website (see HFW Veg stuff)

Morning :)

Tonight's meal is bolognese, for anyone who is interested, not sure about the test of the week as it is on my calender which is downstairs :o

Not much of a list as such, but Need to Do:
Take down Christmas tree/decs
More laundry
DD to and from school
Feed everyone at appropriate times of day
Do horses

AnonymousBird · 06/01/2012 08:51

Well, at last the sun shines and the wind has dropped. Thank the Lord for that.

We can go outside without getting a battering.....

DD is still asleep (8.50). She has slept like this all holidays and I don't know how we are going to go back to getting her up at 7.15 for school next week! Not as if she goes to bed hugely late either, she is just loving (and needing) her sleep at the moment. DS, however, up with the lark this morning, just as I was retreating back to bed after DH left with a coffee for half an hour with my book!

They must have got the package as they have paid me back for one of them. No customer services help line just email and no response so far for 1 week. Harumph

Need to talk to my landlord about the possibility of decorating hallway [scared] Hoping he might offer to pay for all/some of it. It clearly hasn't been done for years and years BUT we have caused more than average wear and tear over last 2 years (buggy knocking into walls, dc picking at loose bits of wallpaper etc) so he might say it's down to me to fix.

Minimammoth · 06/01/2012 12:28

Still no get up and go. Can't get my head round proper list. But have got wool for dgd's cardi.
Menus. My offerings are
Beef in red wine slow cooked casserole today
Then rummage in freezer for weekend
Possibly sausage n onion gravy with veg tomorrow
My experiment with spelt flour for yorkshires worked though so toad in hole now poss.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/01/2012 12:47

Ooh toad in the hole, yum.

I am doing a spreadsheet for my meal plans, so that I can organise recipes by type and ingredients and then drag them into a weekly plan. Let's see how long it takes me! Grin
