So, phoned the GP:

  • told have to allow a week for xray results....
  • I query whether the GP intended for me to wait a week with a possibly broken foot
  • have a telephone consultation tomorrow then.
  • I ask could you just put this info on his desk today, if he's happy to wait until tomorrow to speak to me that's fine, but if he isn't and wants something done sooner maybe he could ring today?
... 5mins later ... Receptionist rings back, GP has looked at results & foot isn't broken. :)

Phew & grr & Confused at such a system, honestly.

'Allow up to a week' yet actually the results were already available?!
Send people home with possibly broken bones to carry on walking around for a week?!

Still hurts just the same though :(

Minimammoth · 11/01/2012 12:20

Hi everyone, I am slowly getting through list stuff but keep getting distracted with 'people'.
House is now a official doom site, but it will have to wait as I have got stuff to get done before weekend. Printer now working though so that helps.
JKS re foot, if its not broken but is painful are you using some kind of support? if not it might help. Also ice pack when you have been on it a bit. Rub in some arnica cream. No wearing daft shoes for a bit. GP not very helpful in guiding you how to look after it. If its within your budget get a session with a physiotherapist, bit of ultrasound/massage, and so on, may be well worth it.
will list later

AnonymousBird · 11/01/2012 12:26

Oh JKS, what a pavlova, the system is extraordinary. Surely there are several steps of "waste" in the process you have just been through. The NHS can be fantastic, but equally, no wonder it costs the country so damned much.... good for you though for persevering to at least find out it is not broken. But what now? You going back to GP to see what else might be up?

BTW, hate to put a spanner in the works, but do you know if the xray was absolutely clear no break? DS was xrayed 18 months ago for possible collar bone/shoulder/arm break. Told yes, break. Then told (whilst still in A&E), they got it wrong, no break. I escalated it to a consultant at A&E fracture clinic two days later who said no break. DS was in agony so I had to go private to get a FOURTH opinion that yes, indeed, there was a break. When we saw the xrays at the last visit, I thought the break was pretty bloody obvious personally... apparently the first consultant had thought that what was actually a break was a natural "gap" in the bone due to DS's age.... And the junior doctor who we saw first had got it right!

So, very long winded way of saying, stick at it if the foot does not improve. Try and insist on seeing the xrays/get another opinion etc.

Green t shirt. Cardboard tail with spikes attach to belt. Green balaclava. Spikes attached to crown and down back. Then decide whether to add wings. Green gardening gloves.
well that's my best effort.

Seen orthoptist, waiting for doc now, dd tired but being a star.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 12/01/2012 11:33

DD's school doing a book week this week and she has to dress up tomorrow. She has chosen to go as a ballerina fairy which would be fine as she has an outfit in her dressing up box but am not sure she should wear it to school as she will essentially be wearing pants (it's a leotard with a frill around her bum). Maybe not considered suitable??

This morning have made cottage pie for dinner later, done 2 loads of washng up and hoovered. Off to pick up ds in a bit, lunch then toddlers, then school pick up, then have friends ds here for tea. Hopefully wont have killer head like yesterday and will be able to do some of my course or job application once dc are in bed.

So, we are back at school, 3 days in?? And the children are STARVING at 4 o'clock. In the holidays they were often having their evening meal at 6.30, or even later if eating with the grown ups (which we did quite a bit).

Now?? They are clamouring and hammering if tea ain't ready at 5 on the dot! Good thing though, earlier tea = earlier bath = earlier to bed......

JKS - yes, it was his knee, well done for remembering!! Just about this time last year when it was less than 48 hours from injury to surgery.... Confused. Odd niggles, but he wears a support and is (now) rather more sensible about it all. Aches and pains of course (well, he is nearly 38 FFS) but this season, so far, nothing major. Phew!

Crumpets - my two absolutely love them. And I wouldn't do them every day, but sometimes, when I/they are tired and they've had a big lunch at school, jammy crumpets and fruit just hit the right spot. Cheap, fast and frankly deee-lish.

Does anyone here have a Kindle??? I am soooo tempted. I have rediscovered reading with a vengeance the past few months (now in a Book Club) and everyone raves about Kindles..... Hmmmm.
