Anon - I meant to say, we had our first meal from the Hugh veg book last week, I did the bean and squash soup/stew thing, and even DS1 ate it!

Thanks Ali - he's fine, but we are concerned about a few things, he has a tongue-tie (they don't snip it here, grr, another rant) and a lot of his speech is not clear/he doesn't have some sounds - i worry these are connected. As he can't say, for eg. 'th' he can't spell 'thing' so can't write it. He's not great at spelling or writing/ His reading is coming along but he definitely reads by sight, he learns words as you tell them to him. He obv has a great memory but it doesn't help when encountering new words. His phonic stuff is v weak.

A friend of a friend is an Early Years teacher and she does extra tuition for all sorts of kids. Anyway I asked her to assess DS1 for a general assessment, what did she think, kind of thing.
Sounds stupid, but main relief for me is that she said he is 'obviously very bright' - no-one at school has reassured me that he isn't a thickie. I know that being intelligent isn't the be all and end all but with DS1's rocky start to Y1 I've come to realise that it is a big deal for me.
Unfortunately, DS1's teacher has just been signed off ill (I'm guess mc but no-one seems to know) & we caused ructions by moving class & complaining about his previous Y1 teacher I don't want to be a total pushy parent.

Anyway, enough waffle - she'll see him once a week until the summer holidays just to boost his confidence, help with literacy, etc. And he was very happy there and wanted to go back. Logistical fun on a Thurs evening, but hey ho.

Rumbling headache this morning, think too much caffeine yesterday & not enough sleep - DS2 partying at 1am, sigh.

Right, still not a proper list but things are now largely under control here. House a bit more tidy and de-cluttered. Laundry up to date and ironing pile now very small!

And the poor DDog has actually had some proper walks this week, at last, always so much more tricky when DC are off school, especially when it is raining the whole time, poor thing missed out.

Freak - i had a look at your thread earlier, so may not be up to date, but don't be sad - be cross, it sounds OTT on the school's part. Not that I know what you should do about it, if anything. You are doing so well - hats off to anyone on their own with DC - and we all shout at our kids, you know that don't you?

Freak - that is seriously OTT. There is no end of yelling goes on in this house Combination of sleep deprivation and the fact that DS1 is stubborn as hell and refuses to do as he is told 80% of the time.

Have a new fave programme (other than Homeland of course!) - The Bridge - another one of those amazing Danish dramas. WOW. Brilliant, how do they make them soooo good? As much as I love Silent Witness, it's a bit in the shade when you watch the intensity and style of the Scandinavian stuff..... So intriguing, even just the characters, let alone the story and the story - who knows which way that is going?!

Still in chaos from being away at the weekend here, masses of laundry everywhere, one bedroom out of action until the new carpet is fitted tomorrow morning.
We go on holiday in a month, and aside from booking the ferry we have done no planning!

JKS - We are with BT, and pay £47 a month for their super-fast internet and landline phone with free calls (except international or mobiles)

Anon - the HFW recipe I did was in the soup section, chiliean squash and beans. More like a stew than a soup though.

Ali - we get our broadband separately as DH has a work account, so we only want the landline for the phone.
In fact the only things we want the landline for really are Sky (which insists on it) & the alarm system (which rings it several times a day to check in, and that uses an 0871 number which isn't included in any of the 'free' packages).
So I think we'll change to the free package, which is unlimited weekend calls only with the lump sum payment for the line rental which works out at £10.75 per month.
That will be down from £19.50 :)

Hello everyone, very tired freaky here after a busy weekend. DC are due home any second and it has dawned on me I have only a week til I start work and only 2 and a bit til dd's birthday and I have done nothing for either!

Also I had said I'd take my friend's ds to preschool for her on thurs but now they have asked me to work so I won't be able to and I'm stressing about letting her down.
