Decluttering 15mins at a time in each zone.
Babysteps and missions.

Sunday is renew your spirit day and seeing as today is new years days I hope there aren't too many evil hangovers in existance.

Babystep 1: shine you shine. yes we know this one but do you shine it the fat fairy way? cant remember? check here

And for a treat as it is sunday no mission.

Oh and can i just may 2012 bring you productive decluttering and flying so your houses step closer to those of your dreams and house work no longer be that evil monster that dominates.

I'm going to sort through my receipts this month and make sure I'm actually saving money. I don't want to start buying things just for the sake of buying them IYSWIM. Also I want to do more cooking with cheaper veggie options like lentils, beans, etc. :)

So, I tided up my living room. I didn't want to (I need to go to bed, it's embarrassingly late here) but I thought "I'll just do this one thing", so I cleared everything away and fluffed the pillows, folded the throws, etc, so it's not looking an utter mess. I think that will help tomorrow, to come downstairs and at least have one area nice and tidy.

My plan for tomorrow (or today, technically it's Tuesday already) is just to tackle as much of the dining room as possible. I have to go to work for the first time since the 23rd :( and we all need to get back into the swing of things.

Also I need to have DS fed and dressed in his tae kwon do uniform on time for once, and at 4 I have an appt at the coffee shop with someone I know who wants me to take part in his hypnotism demonstration Hmm, and I need to make a brow appointment.

Have a lovely day, I'm going to sleeeeeeeeep. :)

BlueEyesAllAglow · 03/01/2012 08:43

Morning all. A list of 3 today:
Shoe shopping
Grocery shopping
Sort out loft Shock

Really should take down my xmas name too!

Linzer who are you on twitter?

Lifebegins I started teaching DS1 to make his bed at 4 I think but probably worth a try at 3...

OverflowingMum · 03/01/2012 09:12

morning all!
has been a bit hectic over the last couple of days!
bitchy thanks for thread.....
to all those talking about dc helping out - must admit to having totally failed on that front with mine Sad It was one of my biggest stresses at the moment actually. Totally my fault I think for not being consistent in expectations from when they were little really, and so much harder to change once they are older stroppier teenagers!
Am trying to encourage younger ones more....and will persevere in battling with older ones I think, as I also end up getting fed up that I am the only one to tidy etc...

anyway...
gradual return to normal here...DH back at work, DS2 has gone to nursery (not happy Sad) but other dc are still off...
LOTS to tackle today and tomorrow.....
a list I think is needed:
To Do:
clean washing away in littlies room]tidy littlies room
strip littlies beds
re-boot laundry
fold dry washing nag encourage DD1 and 2 to continue putting clean clothes away and to ttidy their room
tidy kitchen
tidy lounge
hoover lounge
S&S bathrooms
whats for dinner????
collect ds from nursery

right, best get on then!

swanrevelry · 03/01/2012 09:40

Toffee must read it then...Smile
well done for keeping on track with routines and house.

My house this morning looks like a disaster - searching for PE kit and even pencils for ds2 was scary although I found it all. DH went to sleep at 5am due to insomnia (he said I woke him when I came to bed at 12.30 and that was it...) and consequently embittered by 2.5 hrs sleep.

However Done
ds2 off to school bright and breezy with all the right stuff including PE kit
and cleaned shoes
spoke kindly avoided row with to ds1 who is already in a moany mood
dd has yet to emerge due to suspected twisted big toe?
car voucher to avoid parking ticket
cancelled library helping this week to try and get back on track
checked dr appt not till tomorrow

SCARY LIST
apply for parking permit
order NME for godchild
arrange MOT, and clear out car (not too bad, seems to consist of tarpaulin and that's it)
paperwork in sitting room buried under Xmas stuff
Caff form for school (where is it?)
Return library book which I found in Ireland Shock
Force ds to read Your Anglo-Saxon Homework Helper
Ds needs to draw a Xmas item for Art homework
start writing dates in diary or organiser (need to buy Wall organiser HELP)
thank you notes

housework list
rubbish/recycling
wash our sheets
washing up of saucepans
mud in hall/recycling
sadly take down xmas cards in kitchen, although wll leave rest till Epiphany
CDs back in covers
clean laundry away
ds2 sheets wash
remake ds2 bed
Tidy ds room

What a dismal dreary day, Better get properly dressed now and then more coffee

Ellie cheers to smoking resolution. V. Brave. You can do it.

LinzerTorte · 03/01/2012 10:15

It's 11.10 am and still no sign of my iPhone. I keep worrying that I haven't heard the doorbell with all the noise here, but I checked outside and no note anywhere.

Living room a mess thanks to present opening and piles of washing everywhere. It wouldn't matter quite as much if friends weren't due any minute; they're only calling to pick up something, but I said they'd be welcome to come in for a coffee.

Blue Will PM you, as my RL name is on there.

droitwichmummy · 03/01/2012 10:34

Morning everyone! Good luck for today Ellie. I would like DH to give up but don't think he has the will power at the momentSad

Vvvv windy here. DS and I battled through the weather to holiday club (he is not back to school until Thursday). DH is driving his van and trying to stay upright Hmm
At work today and decided that it definitely helped doing the lunches and clearing the debris from the kitchen last night so that is a habit I want to keep up.

Today I need to:
go to Next at lunchtime to try on trousers, jacket and shirt but not buy them (I am going to the paralympics as an official and next are supplying the uniform so i want to make sure I get the right size!)
go to the Works/Poundland for card making stuff (have loads but nothing suitable for a 7 year old boyAngry)

This evening's plan:
batch of bolognese for freezer
batch of spanish chicken for freezer (if time)
turkey bake for freezer
WM on
iron and put away any dry washing from yesterday
make sure DH has shirt for work (he gets up at 3.30am)
lunch for me and DH (DS going bowling tomorrow so doesn't need any)
unload and reload DW
shine sink
s&s
divide Herman (friendship cake) and put one portion to bring to work tomorrow, cook at least one of the portions

OMG that looks a lot! I had thought of doing a mission - maybe not.

See you later - have a good day.

IceColdBitchy · 03/01/2012 11:55

nearly lunchtime and time for a list update Hmm

To do list:
get up and get ds up ds decided i needed a lie in and i forgot to set my alarm so no been up long but now done
bedding on to wash
towel wash running
name and sort out length of new school trousers
ds' reading
make up ds' school bag and sort out pe kit etc.
Make up ds' training kit
ds to training
sort out ds kit post training
remake my bed
check emails done
set out breakfast stuff for ds.
ring hospital and double check when ds' appointment is. or find paperwork but i know which is easier
sort through training stuff drawer

However, the rest of that list will have to wait as ds has been saintly i have promised him a trip into town to spend his pocket money and christmas money. Toys 'r' hell anyone?

OP posts:
notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 13:44

Oooh I feel as though Im not doing much when all of you are doing loads and loads. Oh well I will get there.

so far today I have only been in town, just having a break now before the kitchen gets tackled so I can get the sink sorted Grin. Then after tea it will be the table so now my stupidly small list looks like this.

  • Clean Kitchen
  • Pop to town done
  • Wipe down kids table

Change your mantel sounds like ours. The other day I cleared it up and got rid of cards from DS's birthday last Feb amongst other more recent cards from April and Sept Blush

Coo I had DC3 in Sept who is DD2. I now have DS (6YO), DD1 (4YO) and DD2 (15 weeks)

Also looking through Im going to add to my list

  • Fill out form and post back for some money (to help with removal expenses though we can afford it just, but will be easier. We might get a no, but it doesnt hurt to try and we can afford the repayments)
  • Ironing (how do you go about not ironing and not getting creases?)
  • Load of washing as DD1 had an accident in bed this morning done

BBL Smile

BlueEyeshadow · 03/01/2012 14:17

Survived the shopping though it was manic and took all morning. Now have to get through the afternoon, put the washing away, cook and try to stay sane.

Loft can wait till boys are in bed!

ToffeeWhirl · 03/01/2012 16:15

I'm glad I did so much in the house last night, even though I went to bed late, as it was a relief to wake up and feel most things were under control. I often don't shine my sink, but have made an extra effort to do it since running the monster thread.

Ta da list today:

Woke DS1 early with a glass of Lemsip as he has a cold
School routine (very tricky as DS1 is ill with a cold and DS2 couldn't wake up)
DS1 too ill for first day back at school in spite of Lemsip (I let him go back to sleep and he slept till midday)
School run
Put rubbish out
Morning routine - swish and swipe; d/w; empty kitchen bin
No laundry - treated w/m with stuff to stop it smelling instead
Lovely long catch up with friend that I haven't seen since before Xmas
Lunch
Nap
School run

Quite an easy day apart from the nightmarish start with sick and tired children. It was so nice to spend time with my friend and I didn't feel as if I should be doing stuff in the house because I'd done it all last night Smile.

To do list:

Ironing
What's for dinner? Thai chicken curry (Menu4Mums)
DC's bedtime routine
Before-bed routine
Bed at decent hour

Off to check the monster thread now....

pushmepullyou · 03/01/2012 17:51

Afternoon everyone Smile

Christmas decs away and back to work tomorrow (boo!). Have had a lovely Christmas with DH, DD and DS and honestly want to cry thinking about going back to work (although normally I love it when I get there).

ellie I gave up smoking on the 1st. Very cross with myself for starting again at all after DS tbh, but hey ho. Not too bad so far, although I keep trying to make up excuses as to why I can have one last day of smoking, buut know I will only be making it worse for myself in the long run if I cave in!

Need to spend this evening organising various things for tomorrow, so a quick list is probably in order

Make tea
Clear kitchen
Mop floor
Make packed lunches
Washing on
clean tiles
Sort out box full of painting things

Lifebeginsatforty · 03/01/2012 19:11

ellie and pushme I well remember giving up smoking, and that was just over 10 years ago. It was surprisingly easy at the time (even though I timed it with the start of a new school year in a new school), but I still get the urge every so often even now. I wouldn't dare even have one, as I think it would get me started again. Good luck to you both.

swan your list is sooo long. It looks like the lists I have at weekends when I think miracles will happen because DH is at home and can help me. I like the SCARY LIST title. I think I could use that to describe most of my daily lists. Since September I haven't got beyond the very basic routines and babysteps because of all the other things that need doing. I guess that's called RL Hmm.

elliepac · 03/01/2012 19:27

Evening allSmile. Uneventful first day back at work here but no kids so very relaxed! Have been moderately successful today.

Ta da:-
General tidy
Washing up
Clothes out for the morning
Bags packed etc.
Dinner cooking
Swimming lesson

pushme we wil have to jolly each other along. I gave up whilst pregnant with both of mine and yet succumbed each time. Today hasn't been too bad but i think that is initial enthusiasm. We will have to see how tomorrow goes. Weather is helping as it is foul out there so the thought of standing at the back door is not attractive anywayGrin. lifebegins i hope i find it straightforward. Otherwise my poor students tomorrow had better not cross meWinkGrin.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Don't like to admit to being a dirty smoker, though i am now a non-smoker so it doesn't matterGrin.

Better go and finish dinner and then early night. Didn't sleep at all last night probably due to worrying about the smoking. Hopefully will do better tonight.

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 19:43

Well thats my first day over with. So here is my todays list

  • Clean Kitchen DH did while cooking tea (Is it allowed for someone else to do something off your list? I dont have to comensate do I?)
  • Pop to town done
  • Wipe down kids table done
  • Fill out form and post back for some money (to help with removal expenses though we can afford it just, but will be easier. We might get a no, but it doesnt hurt to try and we can afford the repayments) done
  • Ironing (how do you go about not ironing and not getting creases?) done
  • Load of washing as DD1 had an accident in bed this morning done done

Tomorrow's list

  • wipe down kids table
  • wipe down kitchen sides and sink
  • Take DD2 to get weighed as Im a bit worried she's not gaining enough weight.
  • Clean Bathroom
  • ring council re garage. We think someone tried to break into it the other day and now the door is dodgy. Dont like leaving my car outside as I dont live in a particularly nice area so rent out a garage.

Right now Im spending the evening MNing and not doing a lot, really stuffed after tea.

justonemorejingle · 03/01/2012 20:48

Hi all
Hello Notvery don't think I've met you before
Toffee are you running the monster thread, really? I'd better go and check it out, though I barely get enough online time for one thread, I think I need to get back with links and daily challenges as from tomorrow, which will be my first normal-ish day since the holidays

I'm just going to put de-Christmas my house. Dead Christmas tree has been in hallway for 3 days DH promised he would take it out and I'm still waiting - I refuse to do it as I didn't wan't a real/cut Christmas tree for that very reason.
We have to cut all the branches off and dispose of the trunk separately in this block of flats... is that normal? (never had a cut Christmas tree before).

Oh also get on top of paperwork and thank you cards.

IceColdBitchy · 03/01/2012 20:49

Imo if you put it on your list but someone does it for you then it is delegation. Wink however putting other people's jobs on your list Hmm iyswim. hth.

For example you will not see shine sink on my list. it is not part of my delegated chores when we split up the house work. It gets done but not by me.

List update:
To do list:
get up and get ds up - ds decided i needed a lie in and i forgot to set my alarm so no been up long but now done
bedding on to wash
towel wash in dryer
name and sort out length of new school trousers
ds' reading
make up ds' school bag and sort out pe kit etc.
Make up ds' training kit done
ds to training done
sort out ds kit post training done
remake my bed
check emails done done
set out breakfast stuff for ds. done
ring hospital and double check when ds' appointment is. or find paperwork but i know which is easier
sort through training stuff drawer

tbh after chasing around the banks due to a fuck up in the system i really cant be arsed to do anything else and am heading for a hot non caffine based drink and bed. will pop back with the round up in a mo.

OP posts:
justonemorejingle · 03/01/2012 21:07

Oh, and sort out shoe cupboard has to be on my list now. Too many shoes from years ago that I wore once in my Uni years and didn't want to let go of. Can't believe I still have some of them! And I've been so good at de-cluttering otherwise.

What's hth?

Bitchy it's not that I was putting my husband's job on the list, It's just that he manages to ignore jobs so well I almost end up forgetting he's supposed to be doing it (like thinking I should take the tree down and then remembering I wasn't supposed to do it in the first place). Wish I could develop that skill.
Anyway you probably weren't referring to that but thought I should point it out.

I usually end up caving in, but not in this case.

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 21:19

justonemorejingle Hi , Ive been on MN for over 2 years, but have only had this name for a few months. Ive mainly been a lurker and just really started posting a lot more over Christmas. I was a flyer last year until I got to about 6 months PG, then couldnt be arsed anymore and gave up Sad, back to it now. Also I think Bitchy was talking to me about delogation and lists as I asked about if something is on my list to do, but someone else does it is that allowed. But it could equally apply to your post too :)

IceColdBitchy · 03/01/2012 21:44

Ok first things first with the exception of CheerfulYank who is a different time zone, there seems to be an awful lot of fledglings who have been staying up really rather late I know i have previously not been one to talk but I have been in bed and have been in bed fairly early by my standards If you want to feel energetic for flying get thee to bed at a reasonable time

ok

cheerful was sorting out stuff for the brood to return to work and school having had a marathon coupon session.

Hopefully honu managed to get her boiler fixed.

Linzer discovered the addictiveness of carpet cleaners. why do you think i do this every year? Did your phone arrive in the end?

Ellie had her first day without her death sticks, survived her first day back at school and was productive

Lauren

Blue was realistic and had a short list of three things

OFM

Swan posted a scarey list.

DWMummy had a list that included making lots of food for the freezer. This is something I find it helps on quick turnabout days.

Notvery not everyone has long lists. keep it realistic and achieveable. Then you will have the satisfcation of crossing everything off and feeling extra chuffed when you get other stuff done. Just like you seem to have achieved today.

Blue survived shopping hell.

Toffee was pleased to have been productive with her late night.

PMPY was planning an evening of getting things prepared for tomo.

Lifebegins joined in the quiting smoking talk and note her weekend lists often look scarey

Justone is planning of decluttering her house of christmas stuff tomo.

Thank you for clarifying that Notvery it was indeed your point i was replying to. justone i'd be tempted to find the tree a new location which would be rather uncomfortable for dh. But then again i am in a rather grumpy mood due to having an incredibly frustrating day.

Hth - hope that helps.

Wednesday is antiprocrastination day

enough of the nonsense. how the devil are y'all?

i'm just about to de-christmas here, too. we've had visitors forever and i took an mn holiday. now i'm back, ds1 is vomiting upstairs, and i'm already in a to-do over being on mn whilst chaos reigns about me.

which means it's time to fly, i guess. Smile

hope you have all had a fabtastic holiday period (i am not even going to try to catch up what i've missed, as that will take me through until at least easter), so i'll try and work it out as i go along.

that said - i am going to spend the evening mopping up sick looking for a shiny new organise-me app for my shiny new ipad (thank you santa) so any suggestions welcome.

oh, in the interim, ds1 was officially dx with adhd and anxiety/ social difficulties, one of the dogs got a thorn through her eyeball, and i still haven't got a job . similar brief updates of anything essential i've missed would be appreciated! Grin
