Ok So a new year a new thread.
You know the ropes flying the fledgling way.
Decluttering 15mins at a time in each zone.
Babysteps and missions.

Sunday is renew your spirit day and seeing as today is new years days I hope there aren't too many evil hangovers in existance.

Babystep 1: shine you shine. yes we know this one but do you shine it the fat fairy way? cant remember? check here

And for a treat as it is sunday no mission.

Oh and can i just may 2012 bring you productive decluttering and flying so your houses step closer to those of your dreams and house work no longer be that evil monster that dominates.

swanrevelry · 02/01/2012 17:53

just posted from swimming pool computer, but lost post.
done
taken boys swimming, they have had a lovely time
gammon and pineapple lunch

ellie enjoy work, I am thinking a lot about ds's history atm, there is just so much to learn, and it is all so complex (well the Anglosaxon bit is anyway)

dd is at home drawing with Dh, and has a sore toe like you flying
Silvery and Blue best of luck with minging little ones, hope they are safely tucked up soon. Blue it is very stressful stepping through the door and just feeling...I need a cup of tea, but they won't let you...as they are tired out too from journey.

Whoknows I'm thinking a lot too about childrens' jobs. They are always quarrelling about not my turn etc, and their rooms are disasters, always. I know it is my fault for blowing hot and cold. Dh has done well in my absence to enforce the plate clearing to dw rule. Tbh I think we need a radical re-think of helping, such a fine art to get them involved rather than just getting cross at being the only person who does anything to clear up.

Cheers everyone! Hope last hours/days of holidays are happy for everyone
ice kisses to returning ds, bet he is v glad to see you

justonemorejingle · 02/01/2012 18:11

Hi All
sounds like you are all pretty much getting back to normal, I'm quite impressed with the keeping up of daily chores and cleaning. Here we are nowhere near to normal and my mum has decided to stay a few extra nights, which would be fine in a normal sized house but not in a small flat and sleeping on living room floor.

Toffee I'm pleasantly surprised with your antics, I too always thought you were one of the most sensible ones here!
Silvery are you new-ish? Your name doesn't ring a bell, I'm quite new but anyway, welcome!
Flying my dh is the same, but even he's had enough of sitting on the carpet and playing the same games over and over. He said he's found the holiday quite tiring... He doesn't realise he has normality in the office to look forward to, my life continues as normal... erm... when do I get a holiday? I'm so looking forward to going back to work at least part-time.

Bitchy good that you had a break but I'm sure as you said you'll be pleased to see him!

Waves to everyone else my posting is being cut short by to quarrelling girls.

SilveryMoon · 02/01/2012 19:38

The boys are now in bed and peace has resumed. I called dp on his way home from work and he has brought me in a bottle of wine and some chocolate.

jingle I fall on and off this thread. I have been doing the FLY thing for a couple of years and started on a thread with swan jas ellie MadHouse and others, I may have been under littleboyblue when I started, but have been SilveryMoon for a long time now.

I try really hard not to lose my routines over holiday periods.
When I'm working, I find it hard to keep up on all the threads I like on here, so come wednesday, I might not be seen until Feb half term Blush

Flyingoutofcontrol · 02/01/2012 20:12

Right, all washing done - last single top on final spin before hanging in the dining room and I've a load in the tumble that I need to remember to take out as it's a vented drier and if I forget I can't tell if the stuff is damp/cold or both, so have to redry just to be on the safe side - which isn't to environmentally friendly!

DH is going to look after DS tonight so I can sleep in peace as I'm working tomorrow in the office - well, MNetting and playing solitaire probably, but I still get adult company and coffee and loo breaks in peace! Grin

Toe may be feeling better, but I might just be trying optimism - it's a novel concept, and I'm not sure I like it too much!

I know I promised personals, but I'm shattered so will catch up tomorrow - as I'll have the time, although being at work I won't be flying, which will feel weird. Mind you, DH will have devastated the house so will have to do some crisis cleaning upon my return.

Right, going to watch University Challenge in the vain hope I can answer at least one question - and finish my sneaky glass of Wine.

notveryinventive · 02/01/2012 20:36

Hi, can I join?

I was on this before but I have changed my name. I was myhouseWILLbecleanthisyear. I was PG with DC3 and I kind of stopped doing everything in my daily list so stopped coming on the thread, but I realise that its much easier to get things done when there is a list of what needs doing.

I am also moving hopefully this month possibly next so really need to be more organised with housey stuff so the move goes smoothly. Plus I want to start well in my new house.

Anyway Hi all. My Flying starts tomorrow so here is my list:

Clean Kitchen
Pop to town
Wipe down kids table.

Thats it because popping to town is going to take half my day and with the school runs I dont want to over exert myself straight away. My plan is to de-clutter each room from Wed onwards.

Changebagsandgladrags · 02/01/2012 21:20

OK I have still not shined my fucking sink.

I went out and bought cream cleaner today, to find I was supposed to have bought Ajax FFS.

Anyway, I haven't done the bleach thing etc and will get Ajax tomorrow.

However I did do some other jobs:

I slung out all the cards. WHAT I can hear everyone screaming, you can't take them down till Friday (or whenever). Well my mantlepiece was piled high with cards from Christmas, birthdays (our birthdays are in May, July and August) and new baby cards (my new baby is 19 months). OMG I am actuallly the most cluttered person in the world. I kept the new baby cards.

Jobs I have done today though:

2 loads of washing (one is in the dryer now)
Cleaned bathroom (although toilet needs more hardcore delimescaling overnight)
Hoovered DS2's room (DS1's needs a tidy up before I can hoover in there)
Hoovered landing, stairs and living room
Mopped kitchen and play/dining room (I erm mopped around some of the toys)
Cleaned kitchen, like I said, sink is not shining, but the room is not a biohazard

The thing about the baby steps though. If I just do the step of the day and nothing else then the house will be in a right state. So the baby steps are a bit crap.

coostoonettle · 02/01/2012 21:20

Good evening,

How did i get on?

Get up dressed to pretend uggs-done
Did homebleugh Friday to get ready for new year so I'm going to tackle 2 hotspots in kitchen/diner-made a few christmas hotspots of stuff to pack away tomorrow.
Get school stuff ready including money and nursery stuff too.-nope school isnt till wed. Nursery stuff already done.
Get dh up for bathroom perusal in shops (he been xboxing all night so don't like my chances of doing this without nagging)- impossible without nagging but did get to local bathroom shop. Got very good price and some lovely stuff just need to work out how we can possibly afford it.
Ds opticians-done
Cook dinner chicken drumsticks and potatoes, veg-done
Dd swim lesson-done her first one in a class and she loved it. It was really funny watching her as she was just as talkative and disruptive as ds is in his swim lesson.
Email Govenor chair re training courses. I'm a Govenor now ( I'm mad don't know where I'm going to find the time but hey Ho I'm looking forward to it.)-no not yet.
Meal plan and finalise shopping list- more stuff added but no meal plan as yet.

Also done-outside lights put away. bed made, s/s done, milk bottles put out.

Right thinking about nursery gear I'm going to make sure I got the overdue Blush bill ready to pay tomorrow too as well as her clothes.

Good night everyone. Yay thats my first proper day flying in ages. Grin

Tomorrow is testittuesday test your smoke alarms top of list. [bossy boots emotion] Grin

laurenamium · 02/01/2012 21:30

Hiya all!

Glad you're getting ds back bitchy lots of cuddles coming your way Grin and glad you've had a lovely day ellie!

Welcome back blue

You sound just like me flying, I get really annoyed when DP is under my feet but miss him when he's working etc!

LinzerTorte · 02/01/2012 21:45

Evening all,

We arrived back from my ILs mid-afternoon and have been busy unpacking, decluttering and opening more presents since then. Oh, and washing. Which reminds me - must go and check on the dryer as I think there's still some washing in there.

Welcome back notveryinventive - I remember you from when you posted under your old name.

Silvery Glad it's not just me who has problems with waffling; I was struggling to condense a tweet earlier so that it would let me post it. Btw have just worked out who you are; I think we're FB friends. Smile

Toffee Your antics made me laugh. Grin We had a virtually alcohol-free New Year's Eve (other than a glass of sparkling wine on the plane) as we were driving back to my ILs' at midnight, but I have no alcohol tolerance any more and go from feeling tipsy to suddenly feeling ill, which takes some of the fun out of it. Wink

IceColdBitchy · 02/01/2012 22:29

Good Evening. Another sucessful day of doing feck all. However, the sink is shiney and i did get dressed straight away when i finally got up. It would appear that some of the major falling outs in this household before christmas has resulted in certain members realising that they are adults capable of pulling their own weight to help instead of getting in a strop when things aren't done. Amazingly the atmosphere is nicer and the house tidier. not that i am actually surprised

Tomorrow is a normal day, people back at work, afterschool activities (but no school), and with ds back a requirement to sort out the routine.

To do list:
get up and get ds up
bedding on to wash
towel wash
name and sort out length of new school trousers
ds' reading
make up ds' school bag and sort out pe kit etc.
Make up ds' training kit
ds to training
sort out ds kit post training
remake my bed
check emails
set out breakfast stuff for ds.
ring hospital and double check when ds' appointment is. or find paperwork but i know which is easier
sort through training stuff drawer

erm i would appear i am getting a tad optomistic in what might be achieved so i think now is a really good place to stop.

right off to round up and do the linkies... be back in a mo.

OP posts:
Lifebeginsatforty · 02/01/2012 23:04

I'm quite chuffed today. Didn't post a list on here because I'd written out a humungous one to put on the kitchen door so DH can see it as well (this only happens at weekends). Of course a third of it didn't get done. BUT we did rearrange the lounge furniture, sort through DCs toys, move the baby ones out, and make room for the new Christmas ones Smile.

I've also been thinking about what DD could do Flying. She's only 3 though, so is it reasonable to think I can teach her to make her bed (put the duvet back on) in the morning? I am also working on the tidying up toys habit.

droitwichmummy · 02/01/2012 23:20

Well I did get dressed eventually (but no shoes) and I have a shiny sink so quick update on my list before bed

Breakfast done
DW lots of times
Washing x lots ditto
Batch cook no as meat not properly defrosted - will have to do some after work tomorrow
Ironing all of it!
Xmas decs down only outside ones left
Put washing away yes with help from ds
Clean out hamster done
Also written up my new calendar and made lunches for all of us for tomorrow.
Waiting for DHs work shirt to dry (tumble drierBlush) then off to bed. Word tomorrow but should be able to do a short day.

IceColdBitchy · 02/01/2012 23:27

Right round up of life in fledgling land.

Sinks are shiny and people are starting to get back to normal life and routine. Although as yet the little darlings are still off school despite some of us looking forward to there return.

We were all astounded to learn that toffee is not as grown up and sensible as we had all previously thought.

Honu had problems with her heating - hope you got it sorted.

WhoKnows enjoyed the darts match last night but found it was impacting on her feelings towards the day. However, has given her dc jobs to help with the flying.

DWMummy your tablet spelling error made me smile. I like the idea of a hamuuster.

Flying ended up co-sleeping and was awoken by a smiling ds, sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get enough sleep to function.

Swan was still in holiday mode and hiding from scary lists.

Lauren was tackling the fridge and home bleugh brave

silvery is hopefully ejoying some Wine brought home by dh after having a day of quarreling dc.

Flying suffered an attack of cba, but rallied and managed to get some stuff done.

Blue returned from holiday with two tired ds.

Ellie has been preparing for going back to work tomo and also succesfully flying.

nettie posted a huge list and reminded us all to test our fire alarms

Ok so we all know that Tuesday is planning day

babystep 3: shine your sink and dressed to shoes.

missions still detail cleaning zone one.

OP posts:
ChitChatInChaos · 02/01/2012 23:51

Oh Toffee - you sound utterly fabulous!!! Hope you?re not feeling a bit... erm...tender now! Grin

Ooh, thanks WhoKnows - you?ve reminded me to put ?thank you notes? onto this week?s list.

Swan - I?m hopeless at getting my MOT organised in time, thankfully I have an understanding local mechanic who does MOTs and I can usually get in with a just a couple of days notice.

Flying - I know what you mean about DH being around disrupting routine. The little bit of routine I have established has gone completely out of the window. Oh, and I?ve heard Wine is brilliant for sore toes Grin.

Bitchy - what a sleep in, well done!

Ellie - DS2 had one of those stops a couple of weeks ago. After tantruming for 1 hour he only stopped because he fell asleep as he took a breath as he screamed and pummelled the floor Hmm.

Silvery and inventive - nice to meet you, I?ve only been here for about a month myself.

Change- I sooooo agree about the babysteps ? several days of shining the sink, getting dressed and reading the website???? Hardly, especially around Christmas!

Coo - well done for becoming a governor. Sensible people are always needed. TestitTuesday? Where the heck is that list????

Blue- thanks for the info on Planning day

TaDa list for today:

  • Crisis clean in Dining room (friends coming over)
  • 2 x loads of washing
  • 3 x baskets of ironing
  • 15 minutes sorting out items into easy access storage boxes

As part of the money diet I?m avoiding buying food and am working through our freezer and store cupboard supplies.

Friend helped DH install some outside lights, and showed him how to do the wiring so as we finish a room we can put new lights in (temporary ones installed by builders).

Tomorrow?s To Do list

  • Family breakfast
  • Sort DS1?s school uniform for the week
  • Pack PE bag
  • Start building control journal
  • Clear out decorating items from spare room
  • Clean down kitchen counters
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floor
  • Tomorrow?s mission ? well the window part (walls not painted yet!!!)
  • Buy new calendar and fill in for planning day
  • Lunch and dinner
swanrevelry · 03/01/2012 00:15

omg, just watched Leo and Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road Shock What a devastating film about marriage and surburbia. Dh kept saying, it's all her fault, and I kept saying it's all his fault... I can't believe that was their Titanic reprise Shock

Dh has given me stern instructions to get up tomorrow with ds2 (apparently the only person who is going to school) and left with the parting shot that I've had a holiday for the last two weeks and he hasn't...Hmm

no, not done
sink not shiny
clothes not laid out
washing not put away
and much much more

but still I feel relatively sane FOR NOW...

swanrevelry · 03/01/2012 00:16

Chitchat I am doing the same with the fridge and freezer, there still seems to be an awful lot of uneaten odds and sods, especially parsnips Hmm

SilveryMoon · 03/01/2012 01:22

Linz, we're fb friends? Oooohhhhhh, what are your initials?
Mine's NP.
I have a few minute friends on fb, know who very few of them are though!

ToffeeWhirl · 03/01/2012 01:24

Well, I am still staying off the booze for now, but I'm very glad to hear I've given you all a good laugh Grin. To be honest, I still feel a bit sick occasionally and I really don't want any alcohol. Am going to see how long I can last...

Swan - you should read the book. DH and I both love it, although that sounds rather odd considering it is such a bleak story. But there's something about Richard Yates' writing, in spite of his often depressing subject matter.

Bitchy - oh bugger, I thought Tuesday was a free day and now I discover we are meant to be planning stuff. Will have to go back and amend the monster thread now.

I am not going to bed at a decent hour as I spent the early part of the evening dealing with sleepless, snuffly children, which meant I didn't start my evening routine until 11.30. However, I have now:

finished the washing up
shined my sink
emptied the kitchen bin
wiped down all the kitchen surfaces
tackled the kitchen hotspot
put the remainder of the shopping away
washed the kitchen floor
done a room rescue in the sitting room
put away stray toys
laid out clothes for tomorrow
packed school bags
put water bottles in fridge
polished the boys' shoes

I was determined to start the first day back at school on a good footing. Also, I have a friend coming round at 10 and want the house to be respectable by then.

Off to bed now. Nighty night.

CheerfulYank · 03/01/2012 02:15

My goals tonight are to sort my coupons :o and then move on to another room in my house-blitzing frenzy. I'm going to clear out the window seat in the dining room...HUGE commitment. Sigh.

And get things ready to go back to work and school tomorrow...after having been off since Dec. 23, it just seems too cruel. :(

Honu · 03/01/2012 06:40

Went out and bought a fan heater yesterday and the fact that the weather hasn't been too cold, coal fire, new heater and thick jumpers has meant we have stayed reasonably warm. Boiler man coming later today. Yesterday's declutter was the bottom of the airing cupboard so boiler man can get at the pump, which imo is the root cause of the trouble.
Colder house means up and doing more so not so much sitting round on MN.

LinzerTorte · 03/01/2012 06:40

Morning all,

DH has just gone off to hire a carpet cleaning device thingy (or whatever the technical name is - it's probably just carpet cleaner, isn't it?) so I was just about to write that I'm enjoying the peace and quiet while the DC are still in bed, but I can hear sneezing and sniffing so I suspect that DS is up - and yes, he's just materialised.

More decluttering and present opening (as we didn't take our presents back to Wales with us) planned for today and, most excitingly, my iPhone is due to arrive between 9 and 11. Grin DH said, "So we won't see you for the rest of the day then?"

Cheerful I was reading an article in Redbook yesterday about how to organise your coupons. No such organisation required here as we don't get coupons on the scale that you do, but I do have a small plastic wallet of coupons and vouchers that I carry round with me plus a ridiculous amount of loyalty cards etc. The mini ones for your keyring are starting to get a bit more common in the UK now but it will probably be another 10 years or so before they make it over here. Grin

Silvery Yes, I thought it was you - I spotted you on Twitter as I follow a few other MNers and your old MN name was familiar too (were you on the Farmville thread ages ago?). My initials are BZ. Smile

CheerfulYank · 03/01/2012 07:28

Linzer I have just ordered plastic sleeves like kids use to store baseball cards in. I will put my coupons in them in a gigantic binder. :o I saved $54 yesterday so I am well and truly hooked.

coostoonettle · 03/01/2012 07:43

Good Morning Grin

Carpet cleaning is a dangerous sport linzer have fun with your iPhone I love love mine!
chitchat it's not on a list apart from mine. I just like to try and get all smoke alarms tested at least once a week SmileSmile

My list whilst dh is doing breakfast

Get dd to nursery pay outstanding bill
Home and get ds to help me take down Christmas decorations must find an incentive for helpingWink
testittuesday smoke alarm checks
Meal plan and finalise shopping list
Sort out email re training courses
Eat healthily all day weight watchers tonight! Xmas damage about 9lbs on already portly frame Blush
Loads of washing away
Sort out money and gym bag and uniform for school tomorrow.
Take ds somewhere so he doesn't drive me mad Grin
Shine sink/s&s/dw/change dd bedsheets/Hoover make living room adult zone again after Christmas.

I think that will jolly well do! Grin

Hope you all have a lovely day. Grin

elliepac · 03/01/2012 07:54

Eeeeugh. It's cold, wet and windy and I am going to work.

Plus side. Ta da this morning:-
Washing on
Drier on
Cleared away pots
S/s bathroom
Made dc's beds, dh still in ours.

On the downside, today is the day i am giving up smoking. I am mainly going to begrumpy for the forseeable future.

Have a good day everyone!

LinzerTorte · 03/01/2012 08:19

Good luck, ellie - you can come on here when you need cheering up and we'll try to distract you. Grin

I don't know about dangerous Nettie, but DH showed me the dirty water from just part of one of the rooms upstairs and it was yuck! I must take down the Christmas decorations today too, although think I may leave the cards up for a few days longer as I only opened some of them yesterday (the ones that arrived after we left for the UK).

Wow, that's an impressive saving Cheerful. Triple coupons were great for taking a substantial amount off our weekly grocery bill, but there's nothing like that here. I'm already missing the shops in the UK - we don't get anything like 3 for 2, BOGOF etc. On the plus side, I'm rarely tempted to spend much money here except on the Internet.

Right, must get the DC up and breakfasted. No sign of my iPhone yet.
