Welcome to the January Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to BlueEyeshadow and IceColdBitch for guiding us through the busy Christmas month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? We know the feeling. We follow Flylady's routines, which aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. We also chat quite a lot and swap tips on coping with housework and mess.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes. There are three methods, depending on whether you are new to the system or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink.

Oh, and don't - really, really ^don't^ - sign up to Flylady's emails.

The first babystep will be posted on 1st January 2012.

Happy New Year.

Smile

I've started doing the flylady way and am enjoying the new and tidy flat. I have a slight problem of getting hubbie to join in but he has already started picking his clothes up!!?! I have cleared out virtually all clutter in the front room too!! Woop woop. Btw I am on holiday so I hope I carry on when back at work x

Fairyloo · 29/12/2011 17:58

I'm in!! My house is a diaster

mintchocchick · 29/12/2011 18:02

Right, this sounds good, I'm going to join in if I may and try and become super organised at home! Or at least on top of the chaos rather than underneath it.

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 18:03

Hello can I join you? I was a flyer for years (on the old fly threads) and it was brilliant.

However have been letting things slip lately and need to get back to it.

Have been concentrating on decluttering over the past month and only have a few more cupboards to tackle. Also need to sort out paperwork (hate that).

Also been getting back into the habit of morning and evening routines. Do you follow the zone cleaning?

BuckminsterFullerene · 29/12/2011 18:04

...er, think I better join in, although I can't reconcile it with my feminist principles, and our generally equal household.

But, I know it won't get done otherwise! I must lead by example.

So marking my place (sheepishly)

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 18:05

Oh and do you post lists? We always used to. Helped me hugely! Love a good list Grin

BillyBigBaubles · 29/12/2011 18:07

I'm joining in too, my house looks like a bomb hit it. Our boiler needs fixing but I can't bear to phone anyone out to it because the house is shameful Xmas Blush

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 29/12/2011 18:08

Hello.

I'm not sure I really 'get' the flylady stuff but I'm in and willing to learn.

Our house just has so much stuff in it. Ds who is 5 is the main culprit but not the only one. I am going to be ruthless on the decluttering front. I need to sort the spare room so that dd (15m) can move out of our room and into there.

SuePurblybilt · 29/12/2011 18:09

Mine is OK (the house) but I seem to spend a lot of time making it that way. So I am lurking, in the hope of inspiration Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 29/12/2011 18:11

I'm in. Welcome to all the new people.

Steala · 29/12/2011 18:13

Oh, I think I had better make this my resolution. My house is not particularly dirty (I'm fortunate to have a cleaner) but it is way beyond chaos. I spend so much time looking for things I have lost and so much money replacing things I can't find - which then adds to the clutter. Can Flylady help me? I need organisation and a way of getting to all the spring cleaning type things that I need to do.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 29/12/2011 18:19

Yay! Found you! Smile

Marking place ready for Sunday! Although no way am I cleaning on New Years Day! Wink

insanityscratching · 29/12/2011 18:23

Can I join? I'm a hopeless housewife tbh Blush

KatyJ26 · 29/12/2011 18:24

Hi all, I'm going to give it a go in 2012... just marking my place!

libbyssister · 29/12/2011 18:26

I'm in! I had downloaded the HomeRoutine app and was trying to set it up but could do with some Mumsnet support Smile
I just don't seem to go about things in a very organised way, just 'fighting fires' most of the time or blitzing when people are coming over...whereas now I'm going to clean my sink Wink

BarfAndHeave · 29/12/2011 18:32

Yes I think I need this. My house is a disaster area and I am a dreadful hoarder of everything. I feel panic at the thought of thowing stuff out. It needs to change!

MrsJohnDeere · 29/12/2011 18:34

I'm in, but won't really be able to start properly until dh is back at work on the Tuesday. He creates mess at a far faster rate than I can clear it up.

BroomForMyChin · 29/12/2011 18:37

Please may I join?

I've always got people mil randomly dropping in and I seem to spend half my time apologising for the mess and saying we've had a bad day. When really thats the house on a good day Confused

BarfAndHeave · 29/12/2011 18:37

I've just read her day 2 and its a bit strange. Do people not get dressed when they get up?

Toobluntforsleighbells · 29/12/2011 18:37

Sounds good - hopefully I can be saved after all & don't need to live in chaos!

redlac · 29/12/2011 18:43

Think I'll join you all. Working full time has made me hate housework not that I loved it before I've no excuse really cos I've been working full time for the last 4 years!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 29/12/2011 18:47

Barf- it means get up and dressed straight away, including shoes. I don't usually get dressed till the DCs are breakfasted, dressed, packed lunches made, kitchen cleared up etc. Some of the babysteps are fairly flexible IMO.

I've been doing this for two years with varying degrees of enthusiasm, but overall it has made a big difference to my house and how I feel about it.
