Welcome to the January Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to BlueEyeshadow and IceColdBitch for guiding us through the busy Christmas month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? We know the feeling. We follow Flylady's routines, which aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. We also chat quite a lot and swap tips on coping with housework and mess.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes. There are three methods, depending on whether you are new to the system or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink.

Oh, and don't - really, really ^don't^ - sign up to Flylady's emails.

The first babystep will be posted on 1st January 2012.

Happy New Year.

Smile

Just marking my spot - thanks for the new thread, Toffee.

Not sure if I'll actually be able to start FLYing on the 1st as we may not be back home until the 2nd or even 3rd, and the DC don't go back to school until the 9th, but I have lots of good resolutions for the New Year. Grin

flapinko · 29/12/2011 18:50

Can I join too? I have no housework routine and slightly slattern-like tendencies, and am feeling overwhelmed by a seriously overstuffed flat. Even more so since all the Xmas playmobil, duplo and Lego has arrived - I need help!

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 19:02

Just wondering if any of the old flyers are around any more... Tortoise, grouchyoscar, sparkly, rubyrioja, jas etc??

Perhaps they are all so superorganised they have left flylady standing!

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 29/12/2011 19:11

I'm not doing the getting dressed to shoes bit 'cause I despise shoe wearing indoors. and getting dd dressed is such a battle sometimes she goes in the buggy in her jammies

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 19:16

I always get dressed to shoes. It helps to motivate me and stops me constantly stubbing my toes when I race around. Very clumsy.

sharenicely · 29/12/2011 19:24

Right I'm in, will start Tuesday when school starts.
I already menu-plan which has competely de-stressed meal times for me so I know being organised will make me happier.

sharenicely · 29/12/2011 19:25

I refuse to wear shoes at home though, just not comfy.

IceColdBitchy · 29/12/2011 19:38

Shock Wtf the is going. Tis awfully busy in here

Right Ethos on the shoes thing is that basically it means to wake up, jump in shower/wash etc, put clothes on then brew up tackle children etc. However we all know this isnt always practical and we advise that you adapt the system to suit you in a few areas. As for shoes a year or so back we had a interesting comparison of the slippers/shocks type stuff that people used instead. Personally i like th shoes but have one pair that just get used in the house and never go outside so i supose more like slippers iyswim.

Openyourlugeholes Swan is about from the old thread and i think a few of the older flyers pop in occasionally.

As for lists we do like a good list in here but they are not compulsory and we use several different types of list. Some just post ta da lists which show what has been done other to do and done lists, and others lists with crossing off. Or feel free not to post a list.

Right you chatty lot I am going to leave a large vat of Wine in the corner for poor toffee who i hope is not having a nerv ous breakdown at the prospect of rounding you all up.

Toffee love the title. I think it is the first of not having fledgling in the title Shock awaits thread noting the fledgling absence Wink.

I am now going to feck off back to December's thread and will see you in the new year!

PositiveAttitude · 29/12/2011 19:44

Love the title Toffee.

Marking my spot, but to be honest January is going to be very hit and miss as I am away so much. I will probably just be dipping in when I am at home for a quick catch up!

Loads of newbies here!!! Welcome to the mad house!! Grin

countlessbabychams · 29/12/2011 19:45

liveinazoo · 29/12/2011 20:01

can i join up?organized and tidy are never words people associate with meBlush.i need help.lots and lots of help

countlessbabychams · 29/12/2011 20:06

Have just read the shine your sink bit and I've already got a question (sorry!)

What is a dish pan?

It says to keep one under the sink.Is it the washing up bowl?
It's just I'm kind of liking the idea of the breakfast things sitting tidily out of sight under the sink in the washing up bowl till I get in from work.....

Or am I confused (already) and missing the point???

Jas · 29/12/2011 20:09

Hello Grin
Consider me an old FLYer Grin

I'm (still) not super organised, and could do with another babystep and kicking into gear, so am marking my place for my return to the routine.

Alouisee · 29/12/2011 20:09

I'm joining

beanandspud · 29/12/2011 20:13

Please can I join you? I am seriously rubbish at housework and just continue to shove more and more things into the back of cupboards.

I can't wait to get the Christmas decorations etc. down as it feels like an instantly tidier house although I know that they will all sit in the spare room for weeks waiting to go back up into the loft

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 20:14

Hello jas Grin lovely to see you!

Countless yes, it means the washing up bowl.

I noticed that my new sil put my mum's washing up bowl under the sink after she helped do the dishes. I did wonder if she was a FLYer.

peachybums · 29/12/2011 20:15

Id like to join this year as my house is looking a real mess. Im not well at the moment and dipping in and out of hospital so having this thread may just keep me on track Confused :)

Jas · 29/12/2011 20:15

dish pan is (I think) washing up bowl.

operyerlugholes - have you namechanged? Or is my memmory even worse than I thought?

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 20:16

Yes namechanged (several times!). Will pm you.

LinzerTinsel · 29/12/2011 20:19

Welcome to all the newbies. Smile

countess According to my Merriam Webster (US) dictionary, a dish pan is a "large flat-bottomed pan used for washing dishes" - so yes, it seems to be some kind of washing-up bowl.

openyerlugholes · 29/12/2011 20:23

Arse. Can't message from my phone. Will pm you when I get on the computer jas.

RecursiveMoon · 29/12/2011 20:23

I'd like to join Smile!

Our house has got a lot better since I found some cleaning products that I really like using - an E-cloth mop, and some Method bits and bobs, but I still need to be better at tidying up etc.

I'd love to be happy for anyone to drop in at any time.

ButterPopcorn · 29/12/2011 20:38

Hello!

What cleaning products do I need to buy?

Thanks!
