Fledglings dreaming of a FLY Christmas - December's fledgling flyers thread

BlueEyeshadow · 30/11/2011 13:25

Welcome flyers one and all, old and new, to the December thread! As the advent calendars go up, let's beat the CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and FLY through Christmas into the New Year (or have a go at it, anyway...)!

We take a three-pronged approach (and a large pinch of salt) to the FLYlady system:

-babysteps
-babysteps and 15 mins' decluttering
-babysteps and missions

The website is here: FlyLady - if you haven't had a look at it for a while it's worth a gander as the design and layout have changed for the better recently.

Whatever you do, though, don't sign up for the emails or your inbox will be bursting within seconds. Or so I'm led to believe... I will post the links to the babystep and mission for each day (the first ones to follow this evening) and there'll be plenty of chat, Wine , Brew and Biscuit along the way.

A big thank you to Darkness for leading us through November with so much fun! Thanks

Ooh, am I first? Thanks for the new thread Blue and for leading us so splendidly in November Darkness. Thanks

Toffeefudgecake · 30/11/2011 13:41

Linzer - you just beat me to it! Thanks, Blue. And thanks for all your hard work leading us last month, Darkness, with all our chat and all.

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 13:47

Ahem, hello everyone! I don't really 'get' flylady, but would it be ok to join in and muddle along? I have a lot of things going on at the moment - all good things mind, but I really need help staying on top of everything, and I'm wondering if flylady would help!
I'm off to check out the website... and NOT sign up to the emails (made that mistake before...)

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 13:51

Right, so I'm supposed to clean the sink?

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 13:56

Right, well, I have an Open University essay to finish, so I am going to fill the sink with hot water and bleach and then try to get as much of my essay done as I can in one hour, while I leave it to soak. Hope to meet you all soon, and hope you don't mind me joining in! :)

LadyInPink · 30/11/2011 14:17

Marking my place although i'm well aware I'll most likely be found in the naughty corner more than on the thread Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/11/2011 15:42

Marking place, (back later).

abirdinthehand welcome on board, you'll be right at home here, we all muddle through to a large extent. Yes, you need to clean the sink, bleach is just the job, well done for getting one step ahead.

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 15:50

My essay is DONE and SUBMITTED - wooooooooo!
So now I am going to finish the washing up, and dry it all and put it away, and finish cleaning the sink. Then I am going for a bath with a book and a cup of tea to reward myself for BOTH having finished my essay AND having a clean sink! By the way, I usually have 2 preschoolers careering round the house but not this afternoon - first time in a month - bliss :)

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 15:50

Thanks for the welcome whoknows

SilveryMoon · 30/11/2011 15:58

Hi all
Hope everyone here is well. I do miss all you FLYers. I do mean to pop on every now and again to say hi, but sometimes can't find the time and feel incredibly rude about bot being able to keep up.

I have also made some changes to my control journal and have now moved my bathroom to zone 1 to do alongside my entrance way and hallway.
Zone 3 will just now be focused on my ds's bedroom. Thinking this way I will be able to focus more on the bedroom whereas the bathroom doesn't need much (but a bit) what with the swish and swipe routine.

I have now got a good control journal put together. I have typed tables of jobs for zone detail jobs which I print off and tick off as I go.
I have my morning routine, after work routine, and before bed routine pretty much mastered.
Although, what week are we supposed to be on? Not looked for a while and I am currently working on zone 1.

[Crawls out from behind naughty corner curtain...parks mop and bucket for tomorrow .... waves furtively to everyone .... crawls back inside and pulls duvet over head]

Thank you so much for starting new thread Blue- much appreciated

And humunguous thanks to Darkness for guiding us all through November - don't know how you kept up with all our constant chatter ....'twas brilliantly done Flowers

A very warm welcome to Abirdinthenad juggling housework with toddlers and univ study cannot be easy - underlying Flylady system is sound (just ignore barftastic language and acronyms)

slightlycrinkled · 30/11/2011 16:00

xposts - waves to Silvery

laurenamium · 30/11/2011 16:24

Just checking in my place!!

Thanks blue for the new thread and thanks darkness for keeping up with us all and leading the last thread!

I'll be on later to post properly Smile

Welcome bird I've just finished my BSc from home with NBC insomniac 11 month old, i feel for you! But it's the best feeling in the world when it's done!

BBL

LinzerTorte · 30/11/2011 16:28

Welcome abird, and well done on the shiny sink and finishing your essay!

Great title btw Blue.

Waves to everyone else.

I really must do better this month than in November; my routines have been sadly neglected of late. As has the house as a whole, in fact. Blush

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 16:33

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Essay done, sink clean and clear, hot chocolate and bath for meeee!!
laurenamium I am working on my MA - love the study, but as ever it's time that's the issue! I also do paid work about 8 hours per week from home which I have to squeeze into evenings too... but so nice to feel I'm doing something as well as mothering!

DonkeyTeapot · 30/11/2011 16:38

Another one signing up here. (Not for the emails though!)

As I can't seem to motivate myself I'm hoping this will help me to keep on top of things.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 30/11/2011 17:37

Welcome bird system builds up nice and slowly. Thankfully the fat fairy has even modified her website so despite the cutesy language and fluffy colours it is actually a bit easier to use.

Lady I shall also be residing in the naughty corner. Supposed to have a month of rest but haven't had time to sit down yet. Hmm Aiming to focus on the christmas present that I am making and getting them done. Flying through craft hopefully lol.

Good to see you silvery

Am fucking off out tonight. Tons to do tomo and should be getting stuff done but in a vile mood and need to see if i can get it to lift a bit.

Fuzzled · 30/11/2011 18:02

Checking in and hoping December will be better than November...

laurenamium · 30/11/2011 18:21

Been a strange day due to the strike!mindees coming and going at odd times and no playgroups, I also found what can only be described as an infestation of nits on a mindee, which was lovely - not that that's the strikes fault though Grin!

Haven't done much yet but when DD goes to bed I'll be starting continuing my list which looks like:

Hoovering
Cleaning the kitchen
Washing/drying pots
Shine sink
Walk dog done
Front room hotspot
Kitchen floor -sweep and mop
Clean bathroom
Put up second shower curtain

bird an MA!rather you than me but well done on all the hard work!

BBL Grin

elliepac · 30/11/2011 18:41

I must be good this month
I must be good this month
I must be good this month

That is all Grin.

Thank you to darkness for last month and to blue for this.

Huge welcomes to abird and donkey. Quite frankly i am crap at flylady and muddle along is all i can doGrin

abirdinthehand · 30/11/2011 20:07

Hi donkey, glad I'm not the only newbie.

What am I supposed to do after my sink is clean, other than faff about on t'internet?!? Off to check babystep 2 - but from 3 years ago (when I signed up to flylady to all of 5 days before I gave up, I think it's somehing to do with getting dressed and wearing shoes in the house, which is against The Rules as far as I'm concerned...

Makingchanges · 30/11/2011 20:34

Welcome Donkey and Abird

I am making it my mission to be a better flier in December as I need to be organised and this house needs to be ordered in time for Xmas. November was definately a hit and miss month for me.

So I'm going to start tomorrow but I will be out all day and then hopefully I will have been told what lesson I need to prepare for my interview on Friday...ok maybe I'll start on Friday... or Saturday

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 30/11/2011 20:38

Woooo bird slow down. One babystep per day. As for the shoes one most don't wear shoes in house. I take it to mean wake up and get up not wake up and faff about before thinking about getting up. Iyswim.

OverflowingMum · 30/11/2011 20:41

evening all
I am also commiting to more consistent FLYing through December - (ignoring the fact that the next few weeks are the busiest of my entire year!)
On a slightly positive note came home to find DH has received a letter telling him he overpaid his tax for 2005-2006 so we will be getting some unexpected money before Christmas - Whoohoo! Shame it only took them 5 years to work that out LOL
right...need to finish sorting advent calendars and elf stuff for tomorrow, then early night as I'm sooooo tired (clearly no extra supply of energy this evening toffee think yesterday was a one off - I'm normally rubbish in the evenings!)
BBtomorrow Grin

OverflowingMum · 30/11/2011 20:42
