Fledglings dreaming of a FLY Christmas - December's fledgling flyers thread

BlueEyeshadow · 30/11/2011 13:25

Welcome flyers one and all, old and new, to the December thread! As the advent calendars go up, let's beat the CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and FLY through Christmas into the New Year (or have a go at it, anyway...)!

We take a three-pronged approach (and a large pinch of salt) to the FLYlady system:

-babysteps
-babysteps and 15 mins' decluttering
-babysteps and missions

The website is here: FlyLady - if you haven't had a look at it for a while it's worth a gander as the design and layout have changed for the better recently.

Whatever you do, though, don't sign up for the emails or your inbox will be bursting within seconds. Or so I'm led to believe... I will post the links to the babystep and mission for each day (the first ones to follow this evening) and there'll be plenty of chat, Wine , Brew and Biscuit along the way.

A big thank you to Darkness for leading us through November with so much fun! Thanks

Definitely up for a 'fledglings falling out of the nest thread' - as most of you have probably noticed I do more chatting/moaning/waffling than actual Flying and I need you lot to keep me going as the plan is that 2012 is the Year of Decluttering :)
Staying in Good Housekeeping is probably best so those who know who we are can find us - CheerfulYank springs to mind - and then we can merge if when it all calms down.
I will keep my promise Toffee and help with round-ups though, we won't abandon you.

:o :o HAPPY NEW YEAR to fledglings one and all :o :o

IceColdBitchy · 31/12/2011 14:24

How about I take over the new thread with links? And toffee youdo the fledgling threads? I can post links easily and the new thread format doesnt favour the round ups. How does that sound? I am fairly quick with posting links and will happily sort that out no worries? i am an established thread quiche tart anyway so can handle the differences and doesn't worry too much. Just a thought.

tinselliepac · 31/12/2011 14:26

Just popping in to wish all you lovely fledglings a Happy New Year Grin. Busy doing nothing today and am currently watching some cheesy Barbie film with DD. Was going to whip around upstairs but DH has got manflu and has taken himself off to bed so can't. What a shame Wink.

I think the idea of a separate chat thread is a good one. The last thing I want is for anyone to get offended and feel that we are being cliquey. However all these professional flyers scare me. I'm shit Grin. I just want to chat Grin.

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 14:55

Do you mind me asking, if there are to be different threads which one should those of us who are rejoining post in? Although I haven't been on the threads for a long time, have been flying for 5 years so am definitely not a newbie or doing babysteps. Needing a thread that will keep me up to date with the zones and detailed cleaning.

Chatting is good, but I need structure! And rules! And lists - lots and lots of lists!

IceColdBitchy · 31/12/2011 15:01

open you could always post lists on both and scare the shit out of those who are beginnners as well as us WinkGrin We are not strict in fact there a good number of us who spend most of the time in the naughty corner bar hence why the decoration for the month is a matter of importance to be discussed Blush And being the instigator of the naughty corner bar I am by far the worst.

Can i just say wtf am i doing with my life? I am cluttering the emotional side of it already Blush

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 15:06

Ha good plan

And that gives me a chance to post TWO sets of lists! Bliss!

I may set up a halo bar in opposition to your naughty corner bar... the colour theme will be brilliant white and not a spot or a blemish will ever be seen...

elliepac · 31/12/2011 15:08

Oooh I like the idea of a halo bar. Once a month i could pop in and polish mineGrin. Rest of the time i shall assume my rightful place in the naughty cornerGrin..

OverflowingMum · 31/12/2011 15:22

afternoon folks
I'm also loving the idea of a seperate Fledgling thread - I only just about manage to keep up with this thread as it is and would never be able to keep upp with the new thread - but would definitely miss you all if I didnt post....

BBLGrin

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 15:33

elliepac Grin I'm not sure the two bars would be interchangeable... we couldn't have any sticky fingerprints on the walls Shock

ToffeeWhirl · 31/12/2011 15:50

IceCold - thanks for the offer, but there's no need for you to take over the new thread -I'm happy enough to continue with the links and stuff and it'll be easier for people to follow if I do it because my name's highlighted. And I do like a challenge Wink. Why don't you do the fledgling thread instead? If it's too time consuming to do round ups, maybe you could just skip them? Or maybe any of us who are on there at the end of the day could do a quick round up?

DS1 came back from his second sleepover in two days looking happy, but exhausted. He said he didn't go to sleep till 3am! I insisted that he have a nap later, but I needn't have worried - he fell asleep on the sofa before lunch .

Beginning to get ready for our New Year's Eve party now. It's not till 7, but -blimey - it takes time for me to tart myself up these days.

Happy New Year to you all!

elliepac · 31/12/2011 15:56

Fair point open, I shall stick to staring in longingly at the windowsGrin

IceColdBitchy · 31/12/2011 15:56

Happy to do that. Am going to try to simplify my life this month so will try but no promises on round ups.
will set up when back later has have lost the clothes I want for tonight and need to leave in 30mins

openyerlugholes · 31/12/2011 16:00

That's fine ellie. Will hand you out some window cleaner and a cloth and you can make yourself busy whilst you are out there Grin

laurenamium · 31/12/2011 16:35

Thanks in advance for the new thread bitchy

Ta da:
Decluttered DD bedroom
Dusted DD bedroom
Washed down doors and frames
Decluttered conservatory ready to be changed into playroom
Emptied 2 drawers of my wardrobe into suitcases for loft
Took Christmas tree down so ready for loft
Washed down kitchen cupboards (how can plaster get to the top cupboards?! Hmm)
Admired new floor
Hoovered
Put a wash on
Phew!!

Time for a shower and to pack a bag to go. Out for the evening (sleeping out)

Happy new year everyone Grin

Flyingoutofcontrol · 31/12/2011 17:16

Hi all,

Popping on to wish people a happy new year. Have decided not to hang around MNet so much - I've deleted the app as have just been ridiculed for posting about an issue that's bothering me - as it's apparently "bizarre" and stupid and I'm "micro-managing".

I know it's stupid to be upset by people at the other end of a keyboard, but I've managed it. Sad

I will be back - this isn't a flounce - but I think I need to stop using MNet as a crutch and sounding board about important and worrying stuff; when it goes wrong I just feel like shit.

So anyways, I hope you all have a good new year and I hope to see you at some point in 2012.

ToffeeWhirl · 31/12/2011 17:46

Just been thrown out of the bathroom by my children, so am here, waiting for them to vacate it...

Sorry you're upset, Flying. Please try not to take the comments to heart. I have had upsetting comments on MN before now (never on this lovely thread, obviously Smile), but they are not from people I 'hang out' with on MN, so I try not to let it bother me. I know it's hard though.

Is it anything you can share with us?

Thanks for taking over the new thread, Ice, particularly when you thought you'd done your bit already! Hope you found your dress.

Ah ha - bathroom's free!

Enjoy your evening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/12/2011 19:51

Evening all,

Sorry to hear that Flying, it has happened to me once or twice too and it's not very nice, I don't know how some of the more forthright posters manage tobe so thick skinned. I was insulted by someone from this thread (on another thread) once and was quite shocked, she never really re-appeared here after that (was at least 18 months ago). I have hidden an awful lot of topics from my Most active list now.

Anyway, I also need to spend less time on here, but that's for productivity reasons, my Flying has been pretty poor lately. Will start Jan afresh.

Good day here, we took the DCs to the theatre to see Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat, the first time we have taken them to a grown up production rather than Gruffalo or similar. It was DS's Christmas show at school, so the DCs know the story and songs already. We had a great afternoon, they both really enjoyed it and so did I, love all the songs and dancing. DS was quite fidgetty and ended up sat on my lap but he still really enjoyed himself. DH has gone out for a takeaway, we're off to a friend's house down the road for drinks and nibbles later. Happy New Year everyone!

Makingchanges · 31/12/2011 20:02

Oh flying I saw part of that thread and can understand completely why you would be upset. I too have been upset by comments on mumsnet before and this is why I mainly stick to the fledgling thread and lovely people. I hope you can find your way back to us and that you don't let it spoil your new year.

bitchy thanks in advance for new thread.

Well we have had a Chinese for tea and DH and dd have done some fireworks before dd goes to bed and I've had a soak. Part of my new years resolution is to relax more and have more family time so I'm putting my pj's on, getting out the alcohol and chocs and snuggling with DH in front of telly for new year.

Hope you all have a lovely evening. I'll be back in 2012 Grin

swanrevelry · 31/12/2011 21:36

I'm back again! Not much to report from Eire except very glad to have gone although sad at all the frictions! Parents old tottery and testy, but luckily we were self catering elsewhere. Relations between parents and my visiting B were v.strained as he complained a lot about how dirty their house was, and not surprisingly that didn't go down very well. [It is v. dirty - he is right but he is not very tactful either...and as my other resident SIL pointed out, if he wanted the floor washed for his baby to walk on, he should have mopped it himself...Xmas Shock Families eh! don't you love them...
We missed my S and BIL and their dcs who have gone on a road trip abroad, as I think they might have diverted the conversation from the state of the kitchen lino...
Something about seeing one's parents at Christmas that sort of makes you realise your own foibles...and hangups writ large...and run screaming back to your own family and hope not to repeat any mistakes...

Dd had lovely time running around with all her Irish friends in the rain and it was very very cosy in the cottage watching old films, eating what we liked, sleeping late, looking at lake, seeing a bit of Grandma, baby etc....I feel like I have had a break and so does DH who had equally nice time in London doing his own thing with the sons, lots of cooking.Lego and homework and walks!

Dh has just cooked a lovely NY dinner on our return, finished ds1's 10 paragraphs on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and is very pleased with himself, and dare I say it glad to see me..

PA what a wonderful present. How romantic and what age is dd?

OFM Happy New Year!
Toffee Ds saw the Terminator with his dad last night; apparently he thought it a bit dull apart from the telephone directory bit where the cyborg flicks through in search of Sarah Connor - he has never used a telephone directory so he thought that was spooky!

PositiveAttitude · 31/12/2011 21:59

Swan - do you mean DD3, who got engaged, if you do, then she is 17 and a half. Very young, but no wedding until 2015 when she will be 21 and we will be back in the country to pay for it !! Grin

Honu · 31/12/2011 22:00

Like PA I like a smaller group, both in RL and online. We are away at the moment but tomorrow evening we shall be finished hosting and visiting and then the clearing up will start! Happy New Year to all.

NickNacks · 31/12/2011 22:08

Happy New Year lovelies!!!

Have a couple of glasses of fizzy stuff, chocs are open, bathed and fluffy dressing gown on and watching 'Bridesmaids' with DH. Hopefully will stay up until midnight but not banking on it...

See you all in 2012. Have a great evening!

Lifebeginsatforty · 31/12/2011 23:27

Well I would really like it if you would accept me on your small chat thread. I had actually thought of suggesting similar myself but didn't really feel it would be my place as I am a newcomer. I'll certainly look at the other thread, especially if that's where the links will be, but I introduced myself here because everyone is so nice and supportive, and I really enjoy the chat. It has a real community spirit, and you obviously all "know" each other. I hardly ever post anything on threads in general, partly due to lack of time, and partly because I don't feel comfortable with so many strangers, who have to "shout" louder and louder to get their opinion across.

Got to go and join DH now before I get told off.

Happy New Year everyone.

elliepac · 01/01/2012 00:36

Is this what it feels like to be bitchy, all on your lonesome on the thread in the middle of the nightGrinGrin.

Just popped by to say Happy New Year to you lovely lotSmile. I actually managed to stay awake this yearGrin. Films helped, Dh, Ds and i watched Pirates of the Carribean and then DH and i watched The Kings Speech for the first time. Brilliant films for entirely different reasons. I heart Jack SparrowGrin.
