Come one come all, fledgling reunite. 1st of the month and we survived the fright. Bonfire month and lets burn though the housework to prepare for the festivities of December.

As from the 1st we will be babystepping, mission and deep cleaning our way out of the C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome).

For newbies and those who need reminding here is the principles behind the babystep system.

The basic is this:

  1. Do the babysteps.
  2. When you do the babysteps with consistency add in the missions
  3. When you are doing the babysteps and missions as a habbit tackle the deep cleaning.

This thread is a mishmash of people at different stages. The lists can look long, but look carefully, some of us are reposting lists and parts of lists from day to day.

Our motto is this: Do not strive to be perfect, Progress is progress and anything is better then nothing and my personal favourite part of the fly lady system is you are never behind, just jump in and start from where you are.

So on that note here we go. With much thanks to Ellie who lead us with amusing roundups last month.

Day 1: Babystep 1 - How to shine your sink

Mission here - this will update overnight ready for the early fledglings

Tuesday's reminders are here: It's planning day

And for those of you who are eagerly awaiting christmas here is the flylady's crusing into christmas page. Personally i did some of this last year and done some this year and it does take a chunk of the stress out of christmas.

Well now that I have suitably scared you, see you all tomo!!

Grin Go pompey!!! That takes me back a bit. Kinda defected from following football a while back. Who are they playing?

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/11/2011 22:52

Leicester, a week on Saturday. A lot of my friends still go regularly, will be good to meet up. Am embarrassingly out of touch with what's happening with them now though (Pompey, not my friends). So, don't know really!

Must go to bed now, night night, waves at everyone.

feetheart · 17/11/2011 00:21

Head full of music and feet still dancing - Bellowhead were FANTASTIC :o

Night night all.

justonemorethread · 17/11/2011 06:25

Sorry I disappeared last night! DH came back way earlier than I thought and I had to do a swift laptop-closing move and put on my I'm soo happy to see you after two days impression (rather than 'I thought I had another hour to waste time on mumnset!!)

Darkness Whoknows and Swan I wouldn't worry too much about the teachers, it is what makes the job wonderful for me how different each child is and the challenge of getting through to each individual (bit more challenging in a uk school with 30 pupils though!).
I can imagine art being a nightmare Swan it's what made me come up with an Aspergers for the last child in question - he couldn't join in the colouring in a group activity because the other children kept putting the pencils back in the wrong place in the tin, and he'd spend the whole lesson re-arranging them in the right order... In the end the children would just automatically pass the pencil to him after finishing and he became unofficial 'pencil' monitor!!!

I do rememember a teacher really losing it with another aspie child during the nativity play practice, actually I broke all kinds of professional codes by barking at him to leave the child alone in front of the other children (and he was headteacher's husband), he was actually doing really well just to be sitting in his place - and the man should have known better.

I don't think I'll ever be accepted in the teaching profession again as I don't know what has happened to my English and spelling, I am truly embarassed at re-reading some of my posts.

Anyway, fear I am derailing far too much here.

Will post a to do list later, hopefully.

feetheart Glad you had a good night out!

It's all a bit quiet in the naughty corner....

laurenamium · 17/11/2011 07:43

Hiya! I'm on my phone so not too many personals! Sorry about the jobs mc have you thought about going supply as a half way house until you get a permanent job? I know a lot of teachers who were offered jobs off the back of supply work!

To do today:
Take suitcases to nanas
Take clothes to a clothing bank
Collect toys from a friends
Nursery run
Playgroup
What's for dinner?
Start photographing clothes for eBay

Have a nice day

PositiveAttitude · 17/11/2011 08:16

Good morning folks! Smile

Loads of chat on here as usual

I have had a quick scroll through, but have got a bit muddled. Confused

SOrry to hear about the interviews Makingchanges I am with whoever said that there is something out there for you, just be patient. Its good to have such good feedback, though. If they said you had not got the job because you were not good enough then you would feel awful!! - that's me trying to be positive, but it may have come out wrong because I am a little brain dead this morning! Hmm

Thanks for all the messages about DD2. She seems to be fine thanks.

I have had a very weird night! Woken up by DD1 and 3 friends cooking in my kitchen at 2.30. Then when I eventually got back to sleep I had the weirdest of dreams. One I can work out where it came from, but a little freaky, another was about SC!!! Hmm For some reason I dreamt that I came to see you and you lived on a cliff with fields of cows and pigs who kept leaping off into the water! Hmm ANyone care to interpret?

I dont have a problem with todays babystep. I am always knackered by 9.30 - but then wide awake before 5am!

Thursday = day off YAY! Dh off too today, so might not get too much done. I did try to persuade him that he could go on the mainland with his beloved bike today for a long stroking session, but it seems to no avail.

My list for today is more of a "hope for the best" list:
Sort kitchen totally! - An absolute tip from drunken hoards eating me out of house and home overnight! Hmm
SOrt washing
College taxi
Hoover as much as possible
Sort charity stuff - Blush been on my list for about 2 weeks and still not done!
Tea- CAmbodian practice again tonight. SO far huge successes, so good news! (Not tried the salted crickets, I will build up to them when we are there.)
BAking - bread rolls, devils food cake (requested), apple crumble (requested) and scones
Should be at a meeting tonight, but I will see, I might do a bunk!!

That will do for now. HAve a good day. to everyone to make up for being so useless with personals at the moment. Blush

LinzerTorte · 17/11/2011 08:20

So sorry to hear about the jobs MC. It really sounds like you couldn't have done anything more than you did, but it must be hugely disappointing.

Also, sympathies on the house situation SC. It must be very demoralising, but I agree with others that it sounds like you have a wonderfully welcoming home and you have to remember that friends and family want to spend time with you, not your house (which they probably don't even notice). I do know how you feel though, as I can never completely relax until I feel happy with the state of the house (which is almost never!).

No time to catch up properly, I'm afraid - either with the thread or with FLYing. Blush I'm preparing tomorrow's English lesson while I'm waiting for some work to materialise (there's a job in the pipeline that would keep me busy until the end of the month, but it hasn't yet been confirmed). The washing is piling up, quite literally - I need to find time to put all the dry washing away so that I can hang the next lot up. And there's yet another lot in the machine. Sigh.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/11/2011 09:51

Morning all.

Sorry to hear about the jobs MC.

Your dream sounds vaguely Biblical, PA... Wink

Glad you enjoyed the gig Feet - still Envy though!

Anyway, ta da! :
Washing in tumble drier
Called council about muppet bin men breaking the food waste bin. Apparently it could take up to 2 weeks to get us a new one. Angry
Swept floor

To do:
Dry laundry away
reassemble Dyson and do floors
Tidy desk
mop hard floors
Aldi shop and put away
Start dinner
Send out more CVs - depressing.

feetheart · 17/11/2011 09:55

Woke up with songs still going round in my head - always the sign of a good gig :)

Am feeling remarkably alert so need to get on and see how much I can achieve today. Hadn't planned much as wasn't sure how knackered I would feel as it has been SO long since I had been out bopping till the small hours :)

PA - Shock at middle of the night messy cooking shenanigans. Hope they are suitably apologetic this morning.

MC - sorry about the jobs. Very disheartening I know but the others are right, there is something out there for you though not much help when you need/want something NOW. If its any help our school has recruited quite a few teachers in the last few weeks inspite of it being the middle of a term. New head, new broom, etc At least one of them has been a TA at school since Sept and will be an NQT. There is also a supply teacher who everyone has been begging to stay - staff, parents, children.

Ta da:

  • Bath - DD and me
  • Washing on
  • S&S
  • All up and out
  • Reply to 2 ebay queries

To do:

  • Rest of morning routine
  • Post ebay stuff
  • Photo more ebay stuff
  • List more ebay stuff (bit of a theme here!)
  • Hoover our room
  • Clean bathroom
  • Make Smiley face biscuits for Children in Need cake sale at school
  • Dinner
  • Important phone call
  • Practice for school art day using our DC as guinea pigs (having explained about term 'guinea pig' :))

Will probably find more to do but that will do for now.
Have a good day everyone

justonemorethread · 17/11/2011 10:01

mother just called. 'will be here in an hour'. With van man. He's going back to my mum's town tonight so he can take all the excess stuff we were planning to store in her basement.
'I'm sure we can get it all done in a day darling he just happened to be coming up your way, I'll just take the baby out for a walk'....
THANKS FOR THE ADVANCE WARNING!!!
Did I say I wanted big lumbering man (kind of an aquaintance) hanging around in my flat while I whizz through 15 or so boxes??
I haven't even cleaned up breakfast? House in embarassing underwear hanging up all over the place (no tumble drier here) state???

Love you mum, but really....

gaaahhh!

droitwichmummy · 17/11/2011 10:09

Morning all!

An unexpected day off work today as DS decided he was ill this morning. Seems much better now (Hmm) but at least it means I should be able to do some stuff around the house.

If nothing else I will do the ironing today
Might make Christmas cake and pud (found a recipe to do that in the slow cooker)
The babystep is one I definitely need to do so I am setting my bedtime at 10.30 so I can read in bed for 30 mins before going to sleep. I got a tiny clip-on light so I can read in bed while DH is asleep without waking him up.

See you in the bar later

rowingboat · 17/11/2011 11:12

Organise spotty clothes for mufti day tomorrow for DD

Hope your DS keeps well DWM

slightlycrinkled · 17/11/2011 13:01

Ha! Droitwich/RowingBoat Funnily enough, dd caught that very same disease this morning and has now miraculously recovered in order to eat a large bowl of pasta for lunch!

To be fair to her though, she has an ear infection which seems to get worse at night. Keeping her home today but [stern look over pince nez] back to school tomorrow.

Good luck with the ironing Mummy and with 'Joomla' (intrigued emotion) RowingBoat

PA Double ha! at your dream or that should probably be nightmare if I feature in it Hope it is not some sort of premonition that my entire house is about to collapse. Wouldn't be surprised frankly!! Other than that can only think of the story of the Gaderean swine and demonic possession (I know I said this house was haunted but that's going a bit far!!). Either scenario not that great frankly !!! Grin GrinGrin Hope you emerged from the dream ok though PA! And hope your kitchen survived it's post-midnight intruders! Salted crickets sound interesting!!

Oh that's a bit of a nightmare scenario Justonemore Hope you manage to get it all sorted in time!

Glad you had a good night Feetheart (I like the sound of school art day btw)

Nicknacks hope you have/have had a good time with your friend today

MC that's a real bummer about the job. It doesn't seem remotely fair after all your efforts. Here's some Thanks to cheer you up.

Good luck with your appointment-filled day Swan Thank you to you and Linzer for your kind words re house situation and apologies for whinging yet again!!

Whoknows your dh and mine sound remarkably similar!! Dh could sit in the room with the ceiling collapsing and not notice! He does absolutely nothing in terms of DIY (not the garden, not basic light-bulb changing, no basic repairs or painting - absolutely nothing - (He doesn't even take an interest which drives me bonkers!) He could happily live out of a suitcase if he had too (and does half of the time anyway!) He will mow the lawn if pushed and does a load of child-care and cooking/food shopping so I shouldn't complain but wish our skills were a bit more complementary sometime!

I completely understand what you say about 'feeling overwhemed' though. I guess we should try and take a Flylady approach and tackle small projects one at a time but somehow (what with the cost of materials and labour) this doesn't really seem practical for house renovation does it?

Sorry to hear your ds (and you) are having a tough time at the moment Darkness

Waves to Nicknacks Lauren Blue Pushme Pink and loads of others I've probably missed

Better go and supervise dd and switch the wretched timer on for 15 mins and actually achieve something today ...

slightlycrinkled · 17/11/2011 13:04

Oh lord, I've just gone and whinged again haven't I? Blush

Missed Ellie and Toffee and Fuzzled off list too ....apologies

slightlycrinkled · 17/11/2011 13:13

justonemore meant to say - I also freely admit to being a bit a lot shouty on occasion (come from a very shouty half-Irish family)

I don't like it (and it horrifies dh who never raises his voice) but dd and I can be at it hammer and tongs one second and all smiles the next which I think is better than brooding resentment dragging on.

Whoknows forgot to say - very well done on the Flying this week!!!

laurenamium · 17/11/2011 13:54

Just a quick update as I'm on my phone, but I have read everyone's posts!

Collected toys
Washed and gave children "new" toys
Put laundry away and wet laundry out

To do:
Clean bathroom
Write contagious illnesses sheet
Photo clothes for eBay
Wash kitchen floor
Wash bathroom floor
Change and wash DDs bedding
Hoover

Got extra to do today as no flying tomorrow I'll be too busy graduating Grin

madwomanintheattic · 17/11/2011 16:24

well, fellow flyers, this morning was Not My Finest Hour.

having finally set fire to sorted the darned spreadsheet and budget last night (and actually wept) i slept through my alarm this morning. Blush

as dh goes to work before i get up, this means that when i woke up and it was light (important clue - it is normally pitch black) my children had 15 whole minutes to be woken up, get dressed, eat breakfast, wash, teeth and be at the bus stop. Blush Blush

now, two of them didn't actually clean their teeth, but i know they did them last night, but they did all make the bus. Blush

aaaargh! and now i have to make lucnhes and deliver them to the schools, because that sooooo wasn't happening whilst i was putting everyone's shoes on and brushing the girls hair whilst they were shovelling a hand held flipping toaster waffle. Blush and apparently it's the book fair, so i have put money in the lunch boxes as well (ingenious)

so. now i have a meeting. (in 7 minutes). and then i have to do lunches.

dear.
god.

save me from myself!

catch up later x

DarknessSoothes · 17/11/2011 16:58

Well i have done feck all flying today. I have had coffee with a friend and put the world to rights. Been nice. But now need to get something done. CBA though Blush

laurenamium · 17/11/2011 17:08

Oh dear madwoman hope you have a calmer rest of the day!

Just have the bathroom to do now and eBay photos and my list for the day is done Grin kitchen is sparkling! I will wait for DD to sleep for those though as she insists on being in the room with me and I don't like her inhaling chemicals...I've ordered some of the method bathroom cleaning stuff off the back of a thread on here, hopefully that'll make cleaning the bathroom with DD easier!

rowingboat · 17/11/2011 18:36

Hi all, back again.
SC hi there! Smile I have no idea what Joomla is! Completely in the dark, but I think it's a bit like Wordpress/blog type software and I'm trying to learn about it. However, my brain is rebelling and chucking all the information out again. Smile
Does your DD have an ear infection again or is it the same one hanging on like grim death? I had a sinus/ear infection for months about two years ago, it was awful. Night time is bad, I still prop myself up with a couple of pillows, probably snore like a buffalo.

Lauren good luck tomorow! Well done!

To do

still to do washing out, new load on and sweeping - still to do new load
Buy birthday present for friend - done she was very pleased.
see if I can find a non-disgusting, non-enormous calcium supplement. - yeah, no chance!
room rescue -eek, need to do another one
phone mum - her phone was on the blink so only got her tonight, ruined my plans, poo!
ds football - yep done
make Christmas pudding
upload Joomla
do 20 minutes Joomla
photos for Ebay listing and more details
coffee with friends done
lunch done
get list of plants to order for planting now
that's all for now
back soon

LinzerTorte · 17/11/2011 19:32

Glad to hear it's not just me who can be shouty (mornings and evenings are worst...).

lauren Hope all goes well tomorrow. Smile

This morning was taken up with work (the job did materialise), the afternoon with ice skating and this evening with tomorrow's English lesson. So minimal FLYing yet again (third lot of washing is still in the dryer Blush). DD2 and DS had their first ice skating lesson today and DD1 met a couple of friends at the rink, so I was able to skate on my own for once and, after a wobbly start, really enjoyed it. Some friends gave me a voucher for a sports shop for my birthday and I think I might treat myself to some ice skates. Hiring skates every week for the next 12 weeks for three of us would be rather expensive - the DC all have their own skates but DD2 and DS need different ones for the course, with something called a Zacken (like a serrated bit on the front of the blade) - I'm sure you know what I mean, Darkness. Anything I should bear in mind when I'm buying skates, btw?

Must go and have dinner now - I'm starving. It's already 8.30 pm here and an early night is looking increasingly unlikely, but I'm determined to get to bed at a decent time for once.

LadyInPink · 17/11/2011 19:47

Still to do:

*Hoover bathroom floor
*Wash bathroom floor
*Ice cakes for CIN for tomorrows Fayre at school
*Pick DD up
*Homework
*Cook dinner (no ideas what though)
*Organise spotty clothes for mufti day tomorrow for DD

  • Done - phew. Can chill with a glass of Wine now.
DarknessSoothes · 17/11/2011 20:06

Toepick Grin Starting them in rec skates can cause a problem as them aren't as rigid as the proper skates and some children find the transfer very difficult. My advice is to get them properally fitted but i guess it depends if they are going to just use them for the 12wks or whether the rink is more permeant. I would take advice from the instructor who will know what boot makes are available and most suitable.

Ds has been an absolute pleasure tonight. I have spent some time doing pre-comp prep rituals. it has been lovely. Going to do a bit more tidying/laundry time stuff before I paint my nails.

Friday's list:
Pack stuff for wkend
finish emptying car
hoover
clean
buy new bra
Laundry
Finish utility room
Pack car
long drive
Night out with friends

Which reminds me. I am might not going to get chance to post the babysteps Sat, and Mon nights. If they don't get posted would someone one do that for me over the weekend please? Chances are they will get done but just in case.

OP posts:
DarknessSoothes · 17/11/2011 20:21

Actually cba with do anything more tonight. Going to bed early. So here are the linkies:

Friday is Date night

missions

The eleven commandments of the fat fairy hate to say it but if you can stick to these then you'd be surprised at how much of a different it makes. A reading babystep that is worth the effort.

See you in the morning. night all.
