I have tried Fly but can't stick to it. I need a plan! And I need support

OP posts:
countessbabycham · 26/10/2011 20:24

Hi jalapeno!

I've now bagged up spare towels for the loft.I don't think there will be any more today - just tidying up after the kids.

lampli I love c25k.It makes me feel more relaxed but has also increased my energy levels.Knees are fine so far....Go and check it out with your GP if you're concerned!!! I am similarly incapable of the laundry. It has exploded out of the linen basket all over the bathroom and I have done 2 washloads today.

What room are you doing jalapeno?

jalapeno · 26/10/2011 20:46

Kitchen, I've cleaned out my pantry and cupboards and trying to keep on top of the pots (must go and do that now!!) Upstairs next- specifically the spare room.

My problem is I am really good at big clearouts but I just can't maintain it. Most frustrating and a huge personality flaw!! I just don't care enough on a day-to-day basis but then when someone comes round I spend all my time apologising for the mess. I also spend all of my time looking for things and tripping over shoes...

jalapeno · 26/10/2011 20:48

I just had to look up C25K but good luck with it, have you entered a race? I love running and need to make more time for that too!!

countessbabycham · 26/10/2011 23:13

jalapeno I'm not entering a race - there's nothing remotely fast about my efforts, but I still enjoy it!

If you're good at big clear outs surely everything has it's place and you just need to put it back there?

I am pleased to report that my DH,spurred on by my efforts, cleaned the cooker this evening. He's told me the bio hazard fridge is mine though Blush.

What's everyone's goals for tomorrow? I won't be doing loads as I promised DD's a 'painting and crafts day' (must be crazy!!!).But I am hoping to get some more washing done and do a few houseworkey jobs so I am 'free' to continue the grand declutter on Friday.Perhaps someone would care to join me with tackling fridge at some point tomorrow (lampli are you there!!!Grin)

countessbabycham · 26/10/2011 23:23

And Mackrel IF you're feeling better, and only if,I do believe you need to tackle your fridge too!Wink

refereeza have you got us all fired up,then snuck off?

Bossy did you do some paperwork too,and cupcakes how about your drawers?

lampli · 26/10/2011 23:27

Yes, I might tackle a couple of shelves. DH did the top shelves but that isn't going to be too regular an event as our fridge is huge and our kitchen is tiny so the top shelves are used to store things that don't need to be kept in the fridge. It would probably take me all day to get everything out and then I would lose interest and not put it all back in. I know my limits Grin

The other day he shut an egg in the door and it broke into the salad drawers and the door bottle holder thing so that has all been cleaned too. I am just left with the biohazard in the middle.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 27/10/2011 07:47

Hi all, what a lovely day. Couldn?t get the dog to go out this morning. He?s more of a fair-weather hound.
I decluttered the top drawer in my bed-side table. Now it?s pretty much empty. Hopefully it will stay like that! Also managed to dropped some books off to a friend, so not bad going considering I was out most of the day.
Today?s goal is to sort out the electrical drawer. I?m dreading it. Primarily because I have absolutely no idea what most of the cables are for, so I?m forced to get DP involved! He is somewhat motivated though, since his Xoom (iPad type thing) needs charging, and he can?t find the charger. It must be in the Drawer of Electrical Doom somewhere?

Bossybritches22 · 27/10/2011 08:00

Morning all.

Some of the paperwork Countess but most satisfyingly got my AVON corner sorted. I do a local round to make a few extra pennies & keep us in toiletries/makeup, but dear god the crap you get & have to keep! Have bought myself a little plastic storage unit so I can keep the order forms/plastic bags etc together & not in big tatty brown boxes. 'Twas recycling bin day yesterday so got rid of loads of stuff & felt very virtuous that it was actually off & gone in one swoop!!

Must say one FLady thing I do like is the 15 minute dash.
Promise myself a session on MN treat & then out on the rado loud & get on. Grin

Carrot & stick approach needed here I'm afraid. Sad

sunshinenanny · 27/10/2011 08:01

I wish I had better storage; Old house, absolute crap storage and I do a lot of craft and sewing so you can imagin the problems. I do use boxes and suchlike but you still need a place to put the blasted things!

keep the house clean but would love it to be less untidy. Have given some things to charity but don't want to just get rid of things for the sake of it.

have worked in houses where they have storage to die for and still live in chaos. Makes me quite cross [hangry] good storage is wasted on some people!

There I feel better for the rant. can I join[hsmile]

HauntyMython · 27/10/2011 09:21

Writing more ebay listings this morning, and we've got rid of stuff as we rearranged for the painter. Having decent paint in the living room makes me feel so much better!

Been asked to do extra hours at work - no obligation but we really need the money - so tidying is going to be a slow process indeed. I think my parents might come up on sunday so maybe they will take the DCs out [wishful thinking emoticon]

lampli · 27/10/2011 09:28

Today I put a top on and it was too short so it is in the pile for the charity shop. Then I put another one on and it was also too short but I am just having to wear it for now but it will go on the charity pile once I have washed it. This is very unlike me, as I usually keep things for when I have lost weight. They are only too short as I have put on weight. I haven't shot up or anything. I am going to be ruthless.

Haven't started on fridge get. Opened it to get the milk, thought about it, then spilt coffee all over worktop so dealt with that instead.

I know what you mean about the craft stuff sunshinenanny. I have a sewing machine in my bedroom but the rest of the stuff is all over the house. It puts me off starting any projects.

HauntyMython · 27/10/2011 09:45

Oh. Turns out my parents aren't coming after all.

lampli · 27/10/2011 10:10

How disappointing, Haunty. It is always harder once you have got your hopes up.

TheGrassIsJewelled · 27/10/2011 11:33

Well done lampli. I'm going to be ruthless with my clothes when I get a chance and ditch anything I've not work for 2 years (being generous as 9mths of that time I was pregnant!).
Have a bag of books for the charity shop (not DH's...), and am now burning some CDs onto my laptop so they can go too.
My aim for the day is to clear my desk. I'm back to work now after mat leave (I work from home), but have been using the kitchen table- far from ideal. My office is now DD's bedroom, and my desk is in the 'spare' room / dumping ground for the last year - drastic action needed!

Happy decluttering all.

(was Ghouls, have namechanged back from halloween one)

mummakaz · 27/10/2011 13:13

Need a kick up the arse today, I really can't be arsed to do anything but I will as I will only make work for myself if I leave it Hmm

Suppose I better put some clothes away....

countessbabycham · 27/10/2011 15:36

Bloody well done everyone!! Words into action, and all that!

I have a tablefull of paintings, washed up painting stuff all over the draining board and boxes of paints etc waiting to go back out in my shed (but me and my girls had a lovely time...Smile)

The front room has a trail of rubbish, and debris through it and I've roped myself in for a sleepover tomorrow....

However I have managed to get DH in loft where he's looked through everything and I've listed what's up there and I've got some laundry done.I like to think I will get the fridge done.

2 steps forward and 1 step back though. While I was concentrating on paperwork yesterday,my youngest DD,who's old enough to know better, drew a picture on my most freshly painted bit of wall...

Why do I bother?

countessbabycham · 27/10/2011 15:43

The Grass sounds like you're doing well with a baby 'helping' you....

TheGrassIsJewelled · 27/10/2011 16:41

I am an expert silent declutterer while she naps Grin.

Mackrelmint · 27/10/2011 19:25

Wow - just been catching up; good work fellow slatterns!

countess - you are a hard taskmaster! I thought I could just get away with a quick wipe round the fridge but you're right it does really need the vegboxes washing out properly and door contents inspected... (oh and I am feeling better thanks so no excuses)

I am v excited with my landing declutter - every time I go up the stairs I think how lovely it is. Not so much done today but sorted through old records I'm never going to play again probably and cleared out 60% for the charity shop. Also on top of the washing just about...

lampli I got dodgy knees and shin splints first time I tried to take up running but 2nd time went really slow - walk-run-walk-run instead of all out runnng - and had no problems.

countessbabycham · 27/10/2011 20:09

Mackrel I am a fraud Blush

I have got carried away on MN and not done the fridge....

Still,the night is young.....Smile

countessbabycham · 27/10/2011 20:27

lampli did you do your fridge??

Mackrel does that mean you've actually done yours?

jalapeno · 28/10/2011 08:15

Ooops, went to the farm yesterday so the house took a back seat! I've been for a run already this morning Countess so there's a good start to the day [hsmile]

I know, I'm useless regarding the clearouts. The problem is, things don't have their place in my house, I get everything out of cupboards, clear things out and then shove them back in!! I can't work out why I'm so rubbish! I hate doing things like putting clothes away so they just get moved around upstairs from bed to chair to floor [hblush] I really am a rubbish housefrau!

I have 90 free 99p listings left on e-bay and it is my personal mission to use them all up by 1st Nov when they expire because I desperately need some cash too so £99 and more space would be a massive bonus.

Mackrelmint · 28/10/2011 09:07

I kind of did my fridge on Monday countess, or whenever it was on my list for the day - but it was just a quick sweep to get the dirt out of the bottom and throw dead stuff away.

Been for a kitchen declutter this morning and identified several plates/cups/broken things to get rid of - yes and two pepperpots! (well one was for salt). they were Christmas presents and have 'mackrel's bistro' and 'DP's bistro' printed on the bottom - except they got my name wrong - so not sure how many takers there'll be but will give them to the charity shop anywaY.

So, list for today:

  • Put away dry washing (yawn)
  • Start sorting through 'stationery' cupboard (where I keep all my bits of wrapping paper, pretty paper, stationery supplies, presents to re-gift, and lots of random bits of crap...)
  • File stuff waiting to be filed on the side
  • And another bed linen wash! (hadn't done any for so long we were down to last set out of about 7 I think

ok, better go and get changed first and get on to it...

Bossybritches22 · 28/10/2011 10:10

Morning Slatterns all!! Grin

Well I'm up to date with my washing but now my house looks like Widow Twankeys with things drying/hanging waiting to iron.

For some reason my new-ish iron (that was working well so I threw out the receipt & box ) keeps throwing the trip switch on the electrics when it gets really hot Confused so now instead of cracking on this morning whilst I feel motivated I have to schlep into town to gegt a new one grrrrr.

Oh & I just remembered my techy bloke is coming to look at my laptop this morn as the mouse/cursor is jumping all over the place & it deletes all my carefully edited highly informative MN posts college work.

Double grrr now I'm stuck in till he's been. sigh

I don't often get these bursts of motivation so must channel them effectively!

What's on everyone else's to-do list today then?

TheGrassIsJewelled · 28/10/2011 11:06

Hello
Am also tackling the washing - ironing done, and we're down to one basket full. Tumble drier on, clothes horse up. Washing is the most shit thing about being a SAHM - it never frickin' ends!

Next step is to sort out my desk (from yesterday). Waiting for postman to bring my work so can't leave front room as won't hear the door!! V frustrating, esp as DD has gone to GPs for the day so I can work. Why doesn't post come early any more?

Have done some virtual decluttering - have three email addresses and I've just deleted one of them.
