Anybody interested in joining me for a flylady thread, starting with the babysteps?

I joined a thread which started in January and it made an enormous difference to the condition and calm of the household.

I have lapsed Blush and thought I would go back to basics and start again.

Anyone want to join me?

My dcs go back to school on Tuesday so I thought I would start on Tuesday morning.

Yes i did, am I in the right one?

Canistaysane · 19/08/2011 23:47

Yes, and welcomeSmile.
Each day Carrots and Celery puts a link for the Baby steps. so just look for her posts to find out what we are supposed to be doing each day.
You have done a lot of housework etc today though so your not doing bad.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 19/08/2011 23:51

I was about to try and summon up some like minded souls interested in babystepping with me. How many days in are you? Do you think I could catch up? I have spent a few days spring cleaning so start from a reasonable standing....and have done it before but don't think I even got to end of babysteps....

Robotindisguise · 20/08/2011 07:32

I've iced DD's birthday cake! Did it at 6.30 this morning - couldn't sleep in with the task hanging over me Hmm

So now I am confronted with a big white 2 - just have to work out how to decorate it...

Canistaysane · 20/08/2011 08:41

morning all, I think we are on Baby step 5 today. I need to catch up Big style!
after my day off. I better go check out the FlyLady website.

GossipWitch · 20/08/2011 09:05

I have a wedding to do today, I have to :-

  • get me and ds2 dressed
  • take ds2 to nans
  • go to town get eyebrows waxed and change ds2s suit
  • get home
  • both of us bathed and my hair and make up done
  • ds2 fed then dressed and off to the wedding until 8 pmish !

busy! busy! busy!

GossipWitch · 20/08/2011 09:06

ppppoooooooooo I need to make a card too, aaahhhhhhh.

AngelDog · 20/08/2011 09:28

Struggling this morning.

I went to bed earlier than the day before, but not by much so I'm still very tired. DS is getting on my nerves and I feel like my to do list is growing exponentially.

Sorry for the whinge. Off to have a shower in a minute - hopefully that will perk me up a bit.

Canistaysane · 20/08/2011 10:06

ARGHHHHHHHHHH..... I've just been doing my head in by watching FlyLady videos at Big Tent.( I didn't sign in) I can see why they say to avoid them. although small amounts are useful like 15 minutes doing a job. I think I will try using a timer to get small amounts done at a time.
AngelDog
Hope you feel better after your shower.
I need to find motivation too this morning.
MyTO DO list:
Get dressed
Empty bins
Put away dry washing/ do some more
Do some washing up
Shine sink
De clutter

I have sort of put potty training on the back burner but will try to pick up on it again soon.Hmm Right better get on with it all.

bessie26 · 20/08/2011 14:00

cani I found the timer thing worked really well, even just doing 5 mins tidying a cupboard or sorting out the mail (my BIG hot spot) makes a huge difference!

angel I also have a HUGE to do list as I write EVERYTHING on it so it doesn't get forgotten, but I have things under 3 headings: today, this week; later. Every week I look at the "later" stuff to see if it needs to be moved to "this week", and every night I look at the "this week" things to see if they need to be moved to "today" - well, that's the theory anyway, but I think (for me) the important thing is to see it as an "adpirationsl" list, I don't consider it a failure if I haven't done everything on the list.

DH is out playing golf & both DDs are napping, so I'm going to declutter my mind by emptying it of all thought & having a snooze! Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 20/08/2011 17:45

Evening all! Sorry I am so late today. We are having a bit of a crazy week. I normally have a very routine and ordinary life so don't expect to be so late posting very often.

Today we are on babystep 5 which doesn't look too challenging for a Saturday.

I have done nothing but bake today and then work my hot little socks off at a fundraiser. I am officially shattered. The house is looking grim and I definitely need a shower

I am off to read everyone's messages and then have to pick up dd - then it is shower and Wine in my pjs Grin

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 20/08/2011 17:51

cani I would say the timer thing is the key to why flylady works so well. Before when I tried to tidy up I felt I had to do the whole thing in one go, which was never going to be achieved, so I felt overwhelmed and gave up before I even began.

With the timer, even on a busy day, I can usually summon 15 minutes worth of energy and it really adds up over the course of a week.

Robotindisguise · 20/08/2011 18:31

I agree carrots - discovering how much you can declutter in 15 minutes makes you feel like there is hope!

Cheaptrick · 20/08/2011 18:32

Hi Everyone

To day i have:

  1. put 3 loads of washing on
  2. got dressed
  3. did the weeks shopping (inclueding making a shopping list and meal plan first)
  4. looked at and priced up beds and travel systems for DS and newbaby

DH is off for weekend as he only works monday to friday and i wanted him to take things to the tip and do the washing up but he has not, he told me to "Stop talking like management" Shock and now he has gone for a lie down with son who is sleeping in our bed Sad So i guess i'm on my own.

To do:

  1. Set up new bin in kitchen
  2. do washing up and put it way
  3. shin my sink Grin

wish me luck

ps i think DH is stressed about newbaby and is not helping with anything Angry. Do you think i would be allowed to hit him a few times with DS's foam sword to wake him up Grin

bessie26 · 20/08/2011 18:51

cheap - Yes!

robot - when is the party?

carrots hope you have some maltesers in, it sounds like you deserve them!

I don't feel like I've achieved much today, but DH was out playing golf, we've had lots of potty action from DD1 & DD2 still has a bit of a cold (so sleeping even worse than usual) so I think I will be happy with

  • laundry
  • lunch & tea (including a pudding)
  • dishwasher
  • 15min nap Grin
  • spent 30mins weeding the front garden
  • witnessed many wees on the potty (we're still waiting for the poo)

I currently have a very snotty DD2 asleep on my shoulder so won't be going anywhere for the next 30mins or so

I still need to

  • tidy bedroom
  • shine sink
  • make sure all diarys & calendars are in sync
  • buy more cutlery for DD1
  • wash a load of the kids clothes
Carrotsandcelery · 20/08/2011 20:22

cheap don't let him get away with it. My dh is big on the team element of family. If you let him not do it he will let you let him not do it iykwim. And yes, that foam sword should definitely accidentally fall on him quite hard.

robot was the party today? I hope it all went well if it was.

bessie no maltesers Sad and dh has finished the baking "fails" Sad Sad I do, however, think there are 6 squares of dairy milk hidden in the fridge leftover from topping a tray bake Grin

Well the day ended better than it started here although DS and I had cabin fever a bit. (He's on a new eczema cream which means he can't have his face exposed to direct sunlight, so getting out and about is really difficult unless I strap him into his pushchair with the hood right down, which he hates.)

Today I've done:

  • Made cakes (got distracted and added too many eggs, so they went flat :()
  • Sorted out problems with wetbag order
  • Tidied up - but the place still looks like a bomb site
  • Washed up x2
  • Did market shopping
  • Strained chicken stock
  • Strip washed yet more nappies
  • Washed & hung up some laundry
  • Emptied kitchen bin
  • Cooked dinner
  • Collected DH from the airport after a week away

Tomorrow is technically my day off, but I will need to:

  • Clear kitchen table
  • Hang out wet washing
  • Take down dry washing
bessie26 · 21/08/2011 00:45

Tonight I

  • spent 15mins tidying our bedroom
  • shined sink
  • updated Diaries & calendars until the end of Sept
  • ordered some new cutlery for DD1
  • washed kids clothes

Tomorrow I need to

  • dry & put away kids clothes
  • take DD1 swimming
  • tidy bedroom some more
  • shine sink
  • finish updating diaries & calendars
  • wash kids towels
  • pay for kids activities next term

As well as all my usual Sunday chores

  • change & wash kids bedsheets
  • empty the water & fluff in the tumble-drier
  • water the houseplants
  • empty all the bins
  • clear the recycling pile that accumulates in our bedroom
Carrotsandcelery · 21/08/2011 10:00

Morning all - sounds like lots of you have already sorted your lists for the day.

Today's babystep is babystep 6 I am not sure if it is a good or a bad one for a Sunday.

My main aims for today are to tidy the kitchen and the lounge. That doesn't sound like much but if you saw them then you would understand. Blush

That will include lots of hot spotting so I think I am covered on that front.

I intend to get the dcs involved. Dh is out running for the next 3 hours and I expect he will be a touch tired when he gets back so I reckon today is probably his day off - apart from putting the tent and some more stuff up the loft.

I have given up Pepsi Max and right now I could really do with one. I am going to have a big glass of water though and then get going. Hmm

Have a great day everyone.

Morning all, I need to find motivation again this morning.I think I'm not a morning person. I seem to feel better nearer to lunch time.
TO DO:
Get dressed
Bath dd
Wash up/dry up
Go shopping
Try to do some decluttering
That will do for now. How are you all?

Cheaptrick · 21/08/2011 10:24

Goodmorning everyone

Last night i did:

  1. sorted bin out in kitchen
  2. did the washing up

i didn't shin my sink as i know we are having a full english today and i will have to do the washing up and shin it today Blush

To day (step 6):

  1. put all the dry clothes away
  2. sort out dirty clothes
  3. tidy bedroom - my hot spot (son co-sleeps but has a cot bed in our room and we dump all the dry clothes on it)
  4. take rubbish to tip
  5. get dressed
  6. shin sink

i'm going to attempt to wash my duvet and put it out to dry on the line. I have never done this before so i have no idea if it will turn out ok as normal i just buy a new one but i'm trying to be eco friendly.

Wish me luck that i dont brake the washer again Blush

Carrotsandcelery · 21/08/2011 11:01

Cheap don't break your washer - ours is currently broken and I have to drive to my parents house (14 mile round trip) to use their machine and it has a 115 min cycle so it wastes a lot of my day.

That is the lounge done - it is amazing how much you can get done, and how quickly, if you get the dcs on board to help. Those of you with younger dcs, don't despair as when they get older they can be bribed trained to help out Grin

If I do nothing else today I will still feel I have made progress, although I still plan to get the kitchen done too. We can only access 1/3 of our table to sit and eat just now Blush
