Anybody interested in joining me for a flylady thread, starting with the babysteps?

I joined a thread which started in January and it made an enormous difference to the condition and calm of the household.

I have lapsed Blush and thought I would go back to basics and start again.

Anyone want to join me?

My dcs go back to school on Tuesday so I thought I would start on Tuesday morning.

I feel lost without the routine of a school day. I find I can fit things into the day better when I know I have to get ds to school and from school at x time of day. I'm just lost in a time warp at the moment.Confused
Don't get me wrong I love having him at home it's just the lack of routine I can't stand.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/08/2011 12:01

I find it really tough to keep on top of the house when they are on holiday and always feel guilty doing housework when I could be playing with the dcs, even though they are perfectly happy playing by themselves. Hmm

I obviously go a lot faster when they are on holiday too as I am whizzing through stuff today. The only thing is there is so much to do I am doing a bit of this and a bit of that and not getting anything done completely.

Yes I know what you mean. I better turn off the computer and get on with it.
catch up later.

SilveryMoon · 16/08/2011 12:26

I joined the other one, just because I'm past the baby steps, and if I only do that, I'll get bored and will need to jump ahead or I'll scrap it. Like what happened before.
I gave up work in April but am going back in September so if my new routines don't work out then, I may come back here.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/08/2011 12:30

Good luck with the new job Silvery Smile

Hi all, just stopped for a. BrewSmile
Have done:
Get dressed
wash up/dry up
Untangled my plant from blind
cleaned window
Hoovered kitchen
and wiped worktops
How you all doing?

missmakesstuff · 16/08/2011 15:43

Hi all - I have a 16month old who kept us up until 3am last night with teeth, so actually feel quite glad that I have

Got up
Got dressed
got DH sorting out phone and broadband out whilst at work (ahem, working in the loosest sense of the word, he just got a new job so is timewasting (might as well have done it myself, 4 phonecalls from him at work already!)
shopped and done recycling
Put away
washed up
done some washing

about to do sink, before starting dinner and planning some jobs for this evening before bed at probably about 8pm! Shattered!

When I am off on hols, I am so torn between wanting to get the house sorted and wanting to play with DD, it's awful, I feel I am constantly putting myself under pressure to get lots done, I end up with huge lists that don't get done then I feel even worse! Hopefully this will help. I will try and post everyday, although I need the motivation, it's so easy to get sucked in looking at other threads then timewasting.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/08/2011 19:42

missmakestuff you have my undivided sympathy. My ds is 6 and still doesn't sleep. (Don't panic - he has mental health problems - most 6 year olds sleep fine!)

It sounds like we have all done loads today.

I had a great time in the study, then got distracted by removing clothes from my wardrobe which I never wear/don't fit anymore Blush. I also decluttered and cleaned the kitchen windowsill, which was a much greater achievement than it sounds!

The massive pile of things to go up the loft has grown but I did also put a huge bag of stuff in the clothes recycling and I have 3 huge bags for a friend's charity car booting so I am not hoarding everything.

Where does everyone store stuff like winter duvets and the cushions for outdoor furniture and things like that? I can only think to put it all up in the loft.

carrots thanks for starting up a new thread! I was amazed at the difference it made when we started back in Jan so am keen to start again!

DD2 is almost 4 months old now so have no excuse and DD1 (2.10) has decided it's time to start using the potty (day 2: 4 hits, 2 misses) so i'm hoping that cleaning the carpet won't be one of my daily tasks!

Today I have had family round so haven't done much other than 2 loads of washing. I have been trying to clean the bathroom this week so once the DDs are both in bed (running late due to potty excitement) I need to clean the bathroom floor. Then shine my sink (haven't done that for a while) Then eat some chocolate & go to bed. Will check back then!

Canistaysane · 16/08/2011 20:14

I'm pretty much giving up on housework for today. I have still got to get ds to bed, dd is asleep already.

Carrotsandcelery · 16/08/2011 20:18

I am hugely Angry as I have just discovered that my dd has eaten all the reward Maltesers I had been saving for tonight if I had shined my sink! Angry Angry Angry

Please can I join? It's encouraging to hear from people who have done it in the past and noticed a big difference. I have tried and failed to start flying but this time I am determined to do it.

Maiavan · 16/08/2011 20:28

Could I also join in? I did join up to Fly a while ago but the emails annoyed and confused me Confused

Robotindisguise · 16/08/2011 22:30

Hello Carrots! Lovely to see you. It's too bloody late for any housework but I might shine the tap or something just to show willing Wink

AngelDog · 16/08/2011 22:57

Can I join please? I was on the thread that Canistaysane mentioned .

I'm a SAHM with an 18 m.o. DS. I'm very disorganised and slooooooow at doing everything.

I've just started doing babysteps but I'm mostly making up my own rather than strictly following FLYlady, if that's allowed. And I'm doing each one for a week or two before moving onto the next one - I tried doing them a day at a time before and just got overwhelmed.

I'd like to post my done & to do lists though. I can't have more than 3 or 4 things on the to do list or I panic, so they shouldn't be too long. Grin

Carrots, I put duvets etc in vacuum storage bags either in the bottom of wardrobes or in the loft cupboard (we have a loft conversion so most of the loft is our bedroom!)

Canistaysane · 16/08/2011 23:04

Welcome aboard AngelDog glad you decided to joinSmile
I must go to bed now see you all tomorrow.

Grockle · 16/08/2011 23:06

I'd like to try. I did register once but there were so many emails that I couldn't keep up but I think there are some good ideas there.

I LOVE having a calm, tidy house but once school starts, it tends to get more and more untidy and I need a bit of help to maintain it.

Grockle · 16/08/2011 23:12

I always shine my sink and make sure the dishwasher is filled before bed. I also try to never leave a room empty handed - taking something with me that belongs in another room to put it away. But I need inspiration and motivation.

I have a 5 yr old DS.

bessie26 · 17/08/2011 00:26

Well I gave my sink a good scrub & it looks lovely now Grin Failed to wash the bathroom floor though as I got sidetracked checking bank accs & looking online for a trampoline!

I still get the fly lady daily email, but have deleting it. Blush I might read it tomorrow, but don't want to try to do too much too soon (missions etc)

Canistaysane · 17/08/2011 09:14

Morning all, just having my morningBrew before I try to get started.
Welcome to anyone who has just joinedSmile
Here's my To do list today (not that I'll get it all done)Hmm
To Do:
Get dressed
do breakfast for dc
wash up/dry up
put away dry washing
try to do more washing
do cat litter tray
and try more potty training with dd.

Canistaysane · 17/08/2011 10:58

Feeling like I can't be bothered at the moment, dd woke up at 4.00am this morning and didn't want to go back to sleep.Sad
She is being hard work this morning. I am trying to potty train her. she comes over and says I done a wee, so I check her and she hasn't. If it's not her potty training problems it's something else going on like fighting with her older brother.
I feel like I want to find a quiet corner and go to sleep. I feel like I've had enough.Sad

missmakesstuff · 17/08/2011 11:57

cantstaysane that sounds like hard work, we all have days like that though, mine was yesterday, barely even managed to get dressed. Feeling much better today though, hope your day gets better!

I shined my sink yesterday, even DH (who never notices anything, and thinks housework is done by the elves) came in and said 'the sinks all white'. Shocker!

Today we slept late (bliss!) as DD had slept all night for once. So far I have
Got dressed - not to lace up shoes though, can't face wearing trainers in this weather!
done some emails
breakfast
tidied loft (no easy feat, it's horrible up there!)

I still have to

Put more stuff up in loft and then shut the hatch and ignore for another year later in the week organise books, etc for charity shop and the huge pile of tools and DH crap to be thrown out and organised (it won't get done, he needs flylady more than I do!)
Washing hung out, put away
Make a fascinator by tomorrow morning for a friends wedding outfit.
If still waiting in for courier then tidy my studio, if not, go to playgroup.
Oh, and make dinner, wash up, put away, tidy sink and shine.
Bed!!

Right, exhausted just looking at that, I always set myself up with too much to do! Sorry about the boring list, but I do find it helps, my lists on paper just get lost.

Good luck all!

Carrotsandcelery · 17/08/2011 13:36

Afternoon everyone - sorry I am so late with today's babystep. We had a very small crisis so I have been running around all morning. More or less sorted now though. Phew!

Anyway, here it is Baby Step No 2

I don't think we will get too uptight about whether your shoes have laces but you get the jist.

I am just about to read all the posts up above now.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 17/08/2011 13:57

Welcome to everyone who has joined the thread. It's great to have lots of us to keep each other going.

For those of you potty training you have my sympathy. Ds did it very quickly but dd took forever! It was soul destroying. She has got there now though and been dry for years so you will get there.

Cani my ds is an early riser so I sympathise. I think setting yourself one task that you can achieve makes you feel a lot better about the day. eg if I do nothing else then I will do the dishes today. Then I feel I can allow myself to let everything else go for the day until I have recharged. Sometimes once you get going and do one thing you feel better too and feel more like doing other stuff.

I also find drinking lots of water helps if I have not really slept.

Today I have unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, done 2 loads of washing, done the weekly shop (and realised a whole load of stuff I should have bought that I didn't), made two tray bakes for a fundraiser I am involved in and, obviously, dealt with our mini crisis. Oh! And I am wearing lace up shoes

I know the lists are dull but they do help give ideas of jobs we could do and it is satisfying to be able to list what you have done.

I think that will be it for today, although I will still have tea to make and the sink to shine in the evening. We have a busy afterschool today though so I am going to rest for an hour before I get going again.

What has everyone else done so far?

OP posts:
bessie26 · 17/08/2011 16:35

I cleaned the bathroom floor this morning, then cleaned the (laminate) floor in DD1s room. She's been at nursery today, am looking fwd to picking her up & seeing how she got on with the potty there today!

My remaining jobs for today are to do a meal plan & supermarket list and tomorrow I need to clean the kitchen floor.

I get washed & dressed, but don't wear shoes in the house, just my lovely comfy slippers!
