I joined a thread which started in January and it made an enormous difference to the condition and calm of the household.

I have lapsed Blush and thought I would go back to basics and start again.

Anyone want to join me?

My dcs go back to school on Tuesday so I thought I would start on Tuesday morning.

Morning all!

Cani enjoy your Brew that is what I am doing just now. Then feel my trainered foot connect gently but definitely with your rear end. You can do it!

So far today I have:
Washed and dressed
Made packed lunches
Loaded dishwasher
Cleaned worktops & kitchen table
Chatted to friends in the playground for far too long
Picked up a little bit of shopping
Spent ages looking for a recipe Leek, apple and cheese sausages
Made sausages - now chilling in fridge
Sorted laundry but not enough for a load yet
Picked up bits of pyjamas and lego etc that dcs abandoned all over the kitchen.

Today we are onbabystep 15 We are onto our third week and I strongly suspect we are now FLYING.

This is a great babystep. It only takes a few minutes and makes the bedroom so much nicer to come back to at night.

miss good luck with the car, phone and clothes. I am assuming you have tried ringing your phone or would it be flat by now?

cani sympathies on the 4am start - I had that yesterday and it was not fun. Have lots of Brew to keep you going. don't steal your dh's snickers as he will notice and refuse to make you a cuppa at night as cheeky revenge Shock

And, in breaking news, so far the guinea pig is still alive and seems happy enough - YAY!

Sneakily forgot my to do list, despite my monster post:

Make my bed
Hoover (again!)
Clean worktops again
Load dishwasher again
Room rescue spare bedroom
Hot spot recipe books (after hunt this morning)
Hot spot vestibule
Try really hard to make my 15 min declutter the study today
Do Kelly's mission here which is a good one considering I am getting the hoover out again anyway.
If I can summon it, do some more ironing
Make a phone call I need to make.

Carrots Hurray for guinea pig!Grin Hope it makes a full recovery.
Right brew almost finished I think I will visit FlyLady for inspiration. Am getting bored of washing up although I still need to do some.(never ending)Hmm

Canistaysane · 30/08/2011 11:34

I think I might join you with that hoovering Carrots. It will give me a break from washing up!

Carrotsandcelery · 30/08/2011 12:07

Ok, so now on Brew no 3!

So far I have also:

Made my bed
Rescued the spare room - looks lovely now
Hot spotted recipe books
Hot spotted vestibule
Made my phonecall - answer phone!
Hoovered

I have also added a couple more recipes to the blog above. Most are ones friends have given me so I have had them at their house and not necessarily made them myself yet. The Pistou soup is fab though.

Just having a bite to eat.

Done:

  • showered & dressed
  • hung out washing
  • tidied kitchen
  • inspected shelves for weevils (none - phew!) & briefly wiped over
  • dried treasure basket stuff
  • put away dry washing
  • put another load of washing on
  • put on dishwasher / washed up breakfast
  • played in garden
  • threw away lots of old receipts while DS played
  • rang dermatologist
  • rang doctor for DH
  • sent a couple of e-mails
  • lay down for nap but couldn't sleep Hmm
  • got DS to sleep (twice!)

To do:

  • cook dinner for friend
  • DS lunch
  • get out of the house & go somewhere this afternoon
  • skim / freeze chicken stock
  • freeze lamb
  • more laundry
bessie26 · 30/08/2011 13:15

carrots those sausages sound yummy, I will definately be trying them out. On a blog related note, have you set yours up so you can email it? I can now send my blog an email (usually containing a link to a recipe I like the look of) & it will save it as a draft post, I'm finding it very useful!

Anyway, back to flying. I have

  • vacuumed downstairs
  • taken DD2 to her baby yoga class
  • tried to get her to nap for longer than 45mins, however this has ended in her sleeping on me

The last week or so it's seemed like clothes weren't drying as quickly as usual in the tumbler, so this morning I got the vacuum & a damp cloth and set about giving the fluff filter a really good clean. Then I noticed another bit after the fluff filter (where the water condenses?) once I realised I could get that bit out too, I found it was all gunked up with slightly damp fluff! All nice & clean now and I'm counting that as my 15m room rescue!

DD2 has jabs this arvo so am not sure how much I'll be able to get done. DH is off on holiday at the weekend, so one thing I must do is devise a very very easy meal plan for DD1 & I this weekend and make him go shopping for absolutely everything before he swans off with his friends!

Carrotsandcelery · 30/08/2011 13:18

I will have to look into that bessie, it sounds really handy.

The sausages are lovely - not hugely healthy maybe but really tasty. Even ds, who prefers only to eat chocolate, likes them.

AngelDog · 30/08/2011 14:00
  • hung out laundry
  • frozen lamb & stock
  • hoovered again after smashing a glass storage jar
  • arranged to meet friend this pm.

I think I'll be having a go at the sausages before too long, Carrots! I'm intolerant to dairy so I can only eat lactose free cheese, and it only works cooked in things rather than on them. A bit annoying as we like to eat a lot of veggie food.

obrigada · 30/08/2011 14:10

Afternoon all, during my lunch hour, I brought in line of washing, hung out a line, and put another in the machine:)

Am only on babystep 2, and wondering about hotspots, should I start working on these at this stage, as have lots and lots of them Blush

Canistaysane · 30/08/2011 14:58

Obrigada You best check with carrots, but if you did want to do them you are just supposed to start with 2 mins hotspotting (day 6). you are just supposed to build up gradually. But if you really feel like you want to start on them you could.

Canistaysane · 30/08/2011 15:07

This afternoon have done:
Hoovered Living room, dining room and hall,
done more washing up,
done a 2 min hotspot,
cleaned the hob,
been to shop, bought bread,
Had lunch,
still to do: more washing up(yawn emoticon)

obrigada · 30/08/2011 15:27

Thanks for clearing that up CanIstay, will keep going with babysteps and work on hotsteps when I reach that stage.

Canistaysane · 30/08/2011 16:29

I have come to a standstill. Sooo tired, Trying to only do essentials from now on today.
How is everyone else?

GossipWitch · 30/08/2011 16:37

ok I made my appt in plenty of time so the kids got bored quickly but ds2 (2yrs) was better behaved than ds1 (9yrs poss aspie) and I felt like a fool not being able to keep them both in check, then did a lot of shopping and ds1 was driving me bananas the whole time, then got home tried to hang a blind and was unsuccessful, (turns out you need a man and/or a drill for it grrrrr) so might have to wait for a visit from daddy. Grin And now I have a clingy ds2, so when I am able to remove him off my lap I will be cracking on with my list. Phew bring on Thursday !!!!

shouldbeelswhere · 30/08/2011 17:04

Gossip, what happens on a Thursday? Day 4 done :)

Robotindisguise · 30/08/2011 17:36

Ok, on way home from work. I strongly suspect where I fall down is that Flylady doesn't allow for a day at the office. I'm thinking I might do a 15 minute mission as a matter of course when I get home, and then pick up the rest of the house from Thursday onwards...

GossipWitch · 30/08/2011 18:00

shouldbeelwhere ds1 goes back to school hhhooorrraaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Canistaysane · 30/08/2011 18:30

OH GossipWitch I know what you mean! My ds goes back to school next wednesday so I have Until then to put up with the fighting, bickering, hitting, climbing on each other, whining about whos turn on the tele it is, I think you get the idea!
I'd had enough by week four. I don't understand why the summer hols have to be soooo long. Sad

shouldbeelswhere · 30/08/2011 18:51

Oh now I get it! Sorry thought flylady gives us Thursdays off Hmm

I've had the whole summer off (tidying the house that is) I was getting just too stressed trying to get stuff done with DC around..that's probably why I'm in the state I'm in :) We've just played all summer and eaten picnics when we can or freezer meals.

missmakesstuff · 30/08/2011 21:43

Shouldbeelsewhere your summer sounds lovely.

Robot I agree, I don't think she does allow for that, when at work I leave at 7am, get home around 6, and am dealing with DD until 8, then generally I have another hour or so of planning etc to do, sometimes lots more like a pile of books to mark, then, I need to eat, I have exercises to do, and thats all without sorting everything for the next day and I really need to be in bed by 11pm. there just aren't enough hours!

I think tonight I am going to sit and work out a routine that is doable, and set DH some chores too, so that it all gets done. I also am going to rotate my hotspots and 15min declutters so that they cover some chores that have to be done - like 2mins in morning can be loading up the washing machine, evening can be emptying three days a week or so. I don't imagine I will get a mission done everyday, more like every other day.

I guess it's just about getting into a routine, whatever that might be, it's better than not having one!

I have had no luck with phone, despite spending moning on phone to insurance etc, and DD has been so clingy all day, so haven't got a lot done, although she did sleep through last night for the first time in a week or so, which was nice, not sure it'll last!

Tomorrows list:

up dressed and showered early (so thursday isn't too big a shock to the system!)
more washing on
food shopping
5min room rescue (bathroom, it's minging)
mission
sort clothes (cause 15mins wasn't enough!)
put camping gear and old clothes/summer clothes in loft (boo) when DH gets home
hoover upstairs
change beds
school work

Carrotsandcelery · 30/08/2011 21:53

missmakes I can see that getting through all the tasks once you are back to work might be a bit of a challenge. Why not just pick one mission a week, or get together as a family for an hour at the weekend and do what you can in that time and then just leave it until the next week.

Once we get into swish and swiping etc that keeps things looking fairly tolerable for, at most, 2 mins a day. Then it is just dishes and laundry. The advantage of being out all day is that you are not in the house making it messy so you will have less of that debris to deal with.

Be kind to yourself though. If you set a manageable schedule you are far more likely to stick to it.

missmakesstuff · 30/08/2011 22:01

Yep carrots I need to keep it simple, I am really not a morning person at all, but slowly we have started doing more before we leave in the morning, as DD has had to get to the CM with a breakfast and her bag all packed, so that routine has built up over time. as usual though my main obstacle is DH, I need to get him on side, going to have a nice dinner on friday and tell him I need more help!
I do have a day off a week, so hopefully I can try and do missions then, to keep on top of things.

shouldbeelswhere · 30/08/2011 22:21

missmakesstuff it sounds so exhausting especially having such a big list and so little time. Like you say time to share out the tasks and be a bit more gentle on yourself. Maybe a blitz on a Sunday before bed? I get DH and DC involved in that - much to their horror. Imo carrots has got the right idea.

If your'e not a morning person sorting out DD's bag and sticking on the laundry before bed might make the mornings seem less of a rush, just a thought.
