Roll up, roll up. tis the month of school fetes, sports days and annual reports. In all this flurry of extra activities and with the summer holidays hurtling towards us at rapid speed, now is the time to tame the chaos before our very special chaos creators are able to help us. Fully intending to beat the Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome so that my personal chaos creator can be occupied by others this holiday. Good luck to all to are also striving to achieve this.

Starting from the 1st of the month we shall be fluttering our way to tamed houses. If you are new to the system it is recommend that you focus on making the babysteps your main focus. The babysteps will build up to form routines to help you to stay on top of the house once you have discovered it. First step is to shine your sink. But not just half heartidly, deep clean til it shines Instructions here

For the more established flyer we then progress onto decluttering. 15mins each day in alloted zone of the week. New zones each week. and current zones and decluttering instructions can be found here Zones will automatically update for July.

As for the advanced flyer, there are missions to do each day in the current zone

We have one rule we are NOT perfectionists anything is better then nothing, real life gets in the way and we have to do other stuff other then cleaning (put it on your list, tick it off and :) ), besides the fat fairy's moto is "You are never behind"

As such take the vomit inducing cuteness of the website with a pinch of salt, and join us for wish lists formally to do lists , ta da lists and home bleurghs. Wink

See you bright and early tomo although hopefully not too bright and early.

Hello all,

It's been a manic week and it's all gone to pot! Routines have gone out of the window and I am sinking in a deep pit of despair. I realised yesterday that I had left a load of washing in the machine for a WEEK! A WEEK!!! Bleugh. It now stinks and needs to be re washed and hung outside but it is raining here and thus that is not possible.

To Do:
Re shine sink!
Sort out washing disaster
Inventory freezer...it's full and we need to eat stuff from it! I need to inventory it to plan meals for the week
Plan meals for the week
Do 'top up' shop
Re read baby steps
Get back on track with FLYng

Next week is sizing up to be mad too but at least it will then be the end of term and I get 6 weeks to get my head straight before going back part time rather than full time!

Toffeefudgecake · 17/07/2011 10:18

So sorry everyone had such a rotten day yesterday Sad. Rain and end-of-term frantic-ness is taking its toll, I think. Hope today is better for you all.

Just off to take DC to an indoor softplay place which we hate, but they love. At least they will get some exercise despite the rain - and we will feel like virtuous parents. We might get to read the papers if we're very lucky.

The cream is working on DS, by the way! He is a happy boy again Smile.

CHBitchy · 17/07/2011 10:34

Right going to turn off the computer and leave it off so here is the linkies for tomo:

read the 11 commandments of tiday stick to these and you should stay tidy. easier said then done sometimes though

New week so a new zone for 15mins daily decluttering. This week we are in the master bedroom the missions in this zone will appear here tomo.

Mondays notes are here

Makingchanges · 17/07/2011 10:47

Neverputasockinthetoaster I hope you get the washing poblem sorted. Its a good idea to inventory the freezer - my freezer is also full and in need of an empty - I may pinch that idea

Toffee enjoy the play area. I'm with you on disliking the places but for days like today they are good.

OFM Enjoy your run and I hope the party goes well.

OK well DD got up at 6am this morning, which meant I did too. DH woke up in a mood again, cooked himself breakfast and disappeared downstairs to watch telly [grr]. I have now found a film at the cinema for DD to watch and dispatched them both after both he and she had a tantrum.

So now I have the house to myself my list for today is:

  • Parcel up sold book to take to post office tomorrow
  • Find logon details for payroll for supply agency that was sent though the post this week and logon and do the necessary there
  • Sort out DDs toys whilst she is out as they are taking over the living room
  • Place more books online to sell
  • Complete the report slip to take to school tomorrow
  • A minimum of 4 loads of washing done (2nd one in already)
  • Finish off job app was starting tomorrow
  • Put away clean clothes
  • More understairs cleaning
  • Find my gym clothes out for gym session tomorrow
  • Make a start on control journal - Never done this but if I'm ever going to get to the maintenance stage rather than the crisis clean stage I think it may be the way forward
  • Sort out tea - I'm aiming for a chinese buffet of duck in plum sauce and savoury rice, although DH could end up wearing beans on toast instead.

Hope you all have a great day ladies. Back later :)

GivingUpIsEasiest · 17/07/2011 12:43

The serial name changer has changed again. Sorry. Not happy today. Still very very broken and really not feeling like wearing CHB atm. Back tomo for links but not likely to be about much other then that.

BartletForAmerica · 17/07/2011 17:50

Oh dear, , have a hug. Not been here much so not sure what's up, but sending you lots of Biscuit, Wine and Brew to be applied as needed.

pushmepullyou · 17/07/2011 17:55

Hey givingup we've got plenty of Wine over here in the naughty corner. Come and join me in a bottle glass.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/07/2011 18:48

Ta-da!
Up early with the boys
Unloaded dishwasher
Cleaned breadmaker inside and underneath - happened to see inside it and Shock!
Made bread
Washing in
Church - survived family service - just!
Stoned cherry-plum things and in freezer
Lunch
Played Lingo with DS1
Made cake for ds1's teachers
Cooked roast dinner while on phone to Mum
Loaded dishwasher
Boys now in bath... and breathe.

Still to do:
boys to bed
rescue kitchen
get organised for tomorrow
box up cake

Think I've had too much Wine.

(( giving up )) - hugs and hope everyone else is having a better day.

Stillchuckingit · 17/07/2011 18:55

shares large bag of contraband salt & vinegar crisp and flagon of Wine with Pushme and GUIE and settles in to naughty corner

Don't give up GivingUp! Remember, all this shall pass, and er, all that ....
Hope you are OK though!

I have barely taken off this weekend never mind flown. Whole house is messy again. Have broken Flylady rules and started one job - not finished it - then started another one. Dh and I have been "civilised but tense" all w/e (and he's off travelling again tomorrow and so am I). I am still doing the washing that needs to be packed tomorrow. DD has picked up on the less than positive atmosphere and has been attempting to run rings around us. Oh dear.

sorry, must go and chase dd around the house with a large net in an attempt to marshall her in to bed.

Waves to Bartlett OM MC Toffee Ellie Dizzy (ouch at those hours) Never and everyone else

Will attempt to be back later but travelling tomorrow so may not!!

Have a good week everyone though won't you?! Smile

Stillchuckingit · 17/07/2011 18:55

Missed you out Blue - sorry - cheers Wine!!

pushmepullyou · 17/07/2011 19:10

Thanks for the crisps SC Smile . It's horrible when you end up arguing over silly things due to bigger stresses.

Sicking toddler here since last night (not ideal with a newish baby and emetophobe mum!). She was very shocked poor love, but seems a lot better this evening.

Much washing has been done, and loads more left to do. No other flying achieved, but DH has been fiddling with his fishtank all day. We have rescued Sparkle, the bullying goldfish from bucket purgatory in the kitchen and restored him to a new tank in the living room. Which means we now have two huge fishtanks, which wasn't what I was planning at all Hmm .

Toffeefudgecake · 17/07/2011 20:00

Had a fairly good day today, mainly, I think, because we got the boys out early for some exercise. They loved the soft play. DS1 was all grumpy and anxious on the way there, but he was really cheery after some exercise. I have been reading a book from the library called 'Getting Your Kids Active', which is full of advice about helping to get parents and children out doing stuff. Personally, I would always rather read a book, but I know the boys need to get out and run around - and it means DH and I have to get off our backsides too.

Have managed to do some ironing and lots of washing up this afternoon. Aiming to get both boys to bed at a decent hour tonight so that they are rested for tomorrow and so I can watch a DVD before bed. And also do the before-bed routine, of course (essential for morning sanity). Busy, busy, busy tomorrow - so I need to prepare.

Swan - hope you have a happy holiday.

Givingup - I'm so sorry you feel rotten. Sleep helps. Let's hope you get some tonight.

Pushme - hope sick bug is gone by tonight. Poor you.

Waves to all I've missed. Bedtimes and storytimes loom. Am reading DS1 a children's book on OCD which really seems to be helping him, if only to show him that he's not alone - hardly the sort of bedtime story I thought I'd ever be reading, but it's brilliant. Am meant to read him a chapter every night. Will follow it up with 'Harry Potter', which is a bit more conventional!

Hope tomorrow is cheerier for you all.

neverputasockinatoaster · 17/07/2011 20:44

Evening folks.

Here is my update:
Re shine sink! done
Sort out washing disaster done with several other loads besides!
Inventory freezer...it's full and we need to eat stuff from it! I need to inventory it to plan meals for the week done
Plan meals for the week done
Do 'top up' shop done
Re read baby steps done
Get back on track with FLYing doing

I have also IRONED!!!!! Not just OH's work stuff but a couple of tops, a skirt and 2 dresses of mine. I had forgotten I owned the tops and the skirt Blush

As well as that I have purchased a fetching purple folder and have begun my Home Control Journal.

This is despite my DS having 2 major meltdowns so yay me!

See you tomorrow I hope!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2011 20:52

Quick post before the Apprentice. DH has gone out for a Chinese to cheer us up, we've had a bit of "civilised but tense" here ourselves this weekend too.

Toffee - that book sounds good, I'm off to the library tomorrow, might look for a few ideas books for stuff to do over the summer, although now I'm back at work there won't be as much free time to fill as last year.

We opted for a busy day here too, which, apart from a bit of whinging from DS who didn't get to play on the Wii (he feels entitled to it on a Sunday, but did get to do quite a bit during the week). We went swimming, DS is stuck on a few things which are preventing him getting his next badge and he needs the practice. We then went to a classic bus rally and spent a couple of hours driving around Hampshire villages in old buses in the pouring rain while eating ice creams and being delighted by the in depth knowledge and wonderment at the buses being shown by many of the other passengers (it reminded me of being in a Bill Bryson book, you know where he ponders at how easily amused British people are). Topped it off by going to the circus which is on in our town this week, which was great, the whole family enjoyed it. So, you would think the DCs would be fast asleep by now? No, still pottering about upstairs....

Oh, sorry . No Flying today apart from two loads of washing and put away a big box of toys which I cleared from all the downstairs toyboxes on Friday and were destined for DD's room.

SC - sorry things are so difficult with PILs, I haven't any advice really but am always willing to lend a friendly ear here if you need to vent.

Givingup - you sound stressed, sending you a cup of hot chocolate.

PMPY - hope DD is better soon

Waves ate everyone else

Makingchanges · 17/07/2011 20:54

  • Sort out tea - I'm aiming for a chinese buffet of duck in plum sauce and savoury rice, although DH could end up wearing beans on toast instead. - Wow - DH cooked as I have been ill all day. It tasted all the betterfor having it cooked for me.

I have been having side effects all day from stopping some medication - Dizziness and sickness on and off all day so DH has looked after DD for me and we have had a reasonably chilled day. Have cancelled the gym tomorrow so I'm planning on taking it slow tomorrow as well.

Right off to finish off the setting up of the control journal - I wonder if I'm hoping for a miracle here.

Right - Back tomorrow

Makingchanges · 17/07/2011 23:43

I've spent the last 2.5 hours going through the flylady website and putting together my control journal - I need to go to bed and tomorrow find my life -what is going on there!! (I guarantee I won't remember any of it tomorrow and my house will still be a bombsite in a week)

I showed DH too - that could have been a mistake, he might be expecting something hes not going to get - a clean house

swanriver · 18/07/2011 00:29

I'm in Ireland! Yoo hoo! waves from house with crumbling plaster and holes in floors; we have a day of jollity with cousins and more cousins, the children have interspersed running around madly with bonding in front of long films Hmm whilst much Wine was consumed in my sister's kitchen. It is raining, of course...Parents old and grumpy, but still full of mad plans. Father has crashed his car the day I arrived, luckily he was fine. The spring, that feeds water supply to us and several people, is contaminated, much discussion of pumps, coloform counts and whether it matters much...Mouse suppressant Cat also has lost use of one of its legs and an ear, after being attacked by a wild beastSad It is a very strange household.

Ds1 and I started the day with a Ikm [1.5?) run which nearly killed us both Blush actually ds1 seemed fitter than me (it was uphill, that's my excuse) and we both felt wonderful afterwards. Lots of walking today, and ds1 stuck to healthy eating plan.

ROUNDUP
SC I find expectations of Dh always go awry when he comes back from business trip, I'm tired out, feeling completely martyrish, he's tired out and feeling selfrightous, it is tinderbox situation, and so easy to misunderstand each other. I'm sure visitors won't mind holes at all, it must be a lovely house with lots of history (I remember your ghost) much more interesting than most people's more convenient residences.
Toffee After supper today, the two uncles suggested playing a game of Rounders with all the children..DSis and I just sighed with happiness at the thought of someone else organising sporting activity, we are both much happier chatting or reading Blush
OFM thank goodness it is Soft Play, you make preps for party sound v painless. Showers are bliss. And your running has made its mark, I am beginnign to see that rather than being a further source fo exhaustion, it actually makes you feel less tired. Hope car plans are working out. I think you are allowed to be FED UP whenever you like. I find just saying it, makes me feel less so....
She also did the Airing Cupboard, The Toys, and The Whiteboards Shock
Dizzy we all look forward to further posts from you
Blue was finding Rain blighted the day, but brightened up at thought of new supply of felttips
MC had survived a very long day and was quite rightly feeling depressed by criticism about state of house - why is when we try and improve things little by little someone will complain that those things should have been done yesterday Hmm It probably brings home to him how much you usually do, when you don't have time to do it...
Sock was finding the truth of the words NeverPutASockinWasher rather than Toaster. I am very impressed by your full freezer Smile
Washing will recover. I find I can do the first load in my sleep and the last load but for some reason I have a compulsion to strew my landings and bannisters with clean dry laundry in heaps.
aha my midnight scrolling has led me back to MC again who has done 4 loads to outwit Sock, and cunningly despatched tiresome relatives to cinema whilst she plans escape to Work in Sept.
Giving No giving up allowed! Your links have been perfect btw, and very clear and organised.
Blue today was an even better day for you, from that list it certainly looks good, think you give yourself a pat on the back even it if felt like very hard work at the time. (Church services can be v fretful times Hmm Teacher will be v.pleased with cake, and ds very proud to bring it in. I bought some strong flour today, just need to buy a breadmaker for holidays, as I thought it might make life a bit easier not having to go to shops all the time when I have no car Hmm Also made decision to buy no biscuits icecream or snack foods for kids or even juice; we will either stew fruit, or make our own biscuits/cakes, icecream. If we are going to consume calories Smile we will work for them.
Bartlett hello
Whoknows has had a Bill Bryson moment and enjoyed Classic Buses
Sock just to show my scrolling up has now done several loads of washing, every routine going and started a Royal Purple Control Journal

had better go, need to go to bed so that I can manage a run tomorrow and not embarrass myself further in front of ds1. Tomorrow we are going to holiday cottage (10 mins drive away)nearby which I rent from my mum, and there is no phone or internet [or car] but there is a lovely lake...soo, no Roundup tomorrow I'm afraid or the next day, until I get back to my mum's house. Cousins are not going to Connemara it turns out but Galway, so we will be alone for a few days.

swanriver · 18/07/2011 00:38

Push sorry I left you out, Push has a dangerous goldfish on the loose, hopefully the two Feng Shui water features will calm her nerves as she had a sick toddler today. Hope poor dd feels better soon, and you can manage the two little ones.

Done
lots of washing up
lots of cooking
lots of walking
lots of veg picking/food shopping
lots of walking up and down long corridors trying to track children and laundry whilst trying to appear sociable

swanriver · 18/07/2011 00:41

Oh I also forgot that Whoknows has been to the circus too.

PositiveAttitude · 18/07/2011 07:03

Morning everyone, Smile

Makingchanges - I hope your hours of flylady searching yesterday was worth it!! My theory in life is - keep DHs expectations low and he will only ever either get what he expects, or occasionally be pleasantly surprised! Wink

SC - I hope you got off ok and can now relax a little. ((hugs))

Swan - Your household there in Ireland sounds like a wonderful plot for a storyline! I hope you have a great break.

Oh circus Whoknows, my DCs used to get sooooo excited about their annual trip. Smile

PMPY Hope DD is feeling better today.

Right, today:
School uniform is in tumbler right now due to lack of organisation over the weekend. Blush
Iron shirts for school - or shake and hope for the best - far more likely!!! Blush Blush
Dishwasher
Breakfast
Sandwiches
Clean rabbit hutch
Long day at work - must be on time, so DD4 needs to get moving right now, which is like asking a mountain to run a marathon!
Mental week at work starts today. Last week of summer term is my biggest headache of the year.
Might try to dash to Waitrose after work
Cook tea - not meal planned and have not got a clue what this might be!
Not getting a great deal done in the evening sat the moment, due to a family fixation on the Tour De France. Such a timewaster, but such fun, too! Wink
I MUST type up DHs application form, too. Mine is done now - took hours and hours!!
I really do need to start getting myself sorted for our holiday next week.
Take DS to football, or try and persuade DD2 that she could do it, if she is not working! Wink

DS has just emerged and apparently I have lost his school locker key. Confused Oh dear grumpy teenager at 7am is not a good start to the day!
Off for a locker key hunt. I will be furious if he has lost it they bloomin' well cost £10 to replace and we only have this week! Grrrrrrr!!!!

Have a good day everyone.

reastie · 18/07/2011 08:23

morning all,

feeling so disheartened - had the whole of downstairs looking (almost) gleaming by late last week and a week end of feeling under the weather and so resting and I have to start from scratch again :(

I have, however, now got my flylady book which I'm finding much easier to read/understand than the web site. I also 'like' fly lady on facebook Grin

swan 'enjoy' Ireland. Hope the weather perks up for you.

Big to do list today including amongst other things:
washing on/dry/sort
main bedroom clear up
sitting room tidy
playroom tidy/hoover
do cbt homework
find somewhere to go on holiday
visit mum (it's her 60th birthday Grin )

hope all are well and hope this weather improves - my mum is having a big party (hopefully outdoors in the garden) this week end coming - we've bought solar energy outdoor lights to decorate the garden with Shock . It's not looking too promising is it Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/07/2011 10:02

I had just typed a long post out including a long list and bloody MN went down.

Anyway - Reastie - know how you feel, but FLylady makes it easier to pick back up again.

PA - hope key turns up. Circus followed us to the IOW last year, we kept driving past it (Wootton I think) and being pestered to go again by the DCs, wonder if the same will happen this year.

swan - thank you for the lovely roundup, glad you got there safely, you sound less stressed already, well done on running.

List - well, I'm going to write it on paper this time.

Tulipsia · 18/07/2011 10:32

Good morning everyone, sorry for my absence over the weekend - it's the only time I really see dh as he works so much so we are always offline to everyone just about at weekends.

Was supposed to be going to baby and toddler group today but there was no way on earth I was risking getting me and ds2 soaked during the walk there and/or back! I still haven't purchased a raincover for his Luna yet.

Monday has otherwise started well...

Ta Da:

  • all 4 beds made
  • everyone up/dressed/fed by 7:30am
  • packed lunches made
  • unloaded dryer
  • load of washing on
  • rapid change of clothes for ds1 at 8:30 as school have cancelled trip to waterpark today due to the shitty rainy weather
  • swish and swiped
  • all curtains open (however mine are now closed again as ds2 down for nap)
  • ds2 successfully down for nap Grin
  • hair/make-up done
  • calendar checked for appointments - of which there was none
  • kitchen sides wiped down numerous times (love this habit)

To Do:

  • empty all bins
  • chuck away newspapers/magazines
  • clean mirrors and picture frames
  • clean door jambs
  • wipe out the fridge
  • clean all kitchen sides down
  • water plant in bathroom (I always forget...)
  • vacuum (If the vacuum decides to work today)
  • sweep kitchen
  • sweep bathroom

Reastie - hope you feel better, glad you're enjoying the book!! :) (I'm off to 'like' falylady on fb too) Grin

swan - Have a lovely time in Ireland :)

positiveattitude - hope they key turns(ed) up....

to everyone else, off for a Brew - anyone want one? xx

Makingchanges · 18/07/2011 11:27

Oh Tulipsia I would love a Brew (I wonder why I never make these myself?

Swan enjoy your time away - Sounds lovely and you do sound relaxed already. Enjoy the run.

PA I hope your day isn't too busy and that DS finds his locker key.

Ok have been vey organsied this morning.

Ta-Da List

  • DD to school with tap schools for talent competition - Suspect she has been egging up her abilities a little too much there.
  • Picked up parcels from sorting office - A bit Hmm as I think these would have fitted through the letter box
  • Posted parcels at post office
  • Bought my mums birthday card and presents (even though her birthday isn't until the end of the month)
  • Bought DD cards for teacher and TA
  • Contacted some voluntary organisations re volunteering
  • Been shopping for fresh bread and tea.
  • Bought stamps and blank thank you cards and birthday cards to put in control journal to be 'ready'

To Do list

  • Parcel up another book and take to post office as just received an e-mail notification that it has been sold.
  • Attack the understairs that I didn't get to do yesterday
  • Put together control journal - have the sheets just need to put them in the folder.
  • Find DHs phone charger that he has lost
  • Tidy more of DDs toys in lounge
  • Sort out caft boxes upstairs - I am trying to get my craft things into one set of drawers so that DD can have one and therefore remove the pile behind the settee.
  • Take DD to library after school to return overdue library books - Blush

Hope everyone has a good day today - Back later
