Do you wear a pinny? Or am I just an old woman all-ready...

I enjoy the odd bit of cooking, have a DS who is a messy eater and I am a bit fussy about some of my clothes...a pinny seems to be a sensible option, not the floral just round the waist ones but a cotton chef style one.

I read a comment in a cook book, Tana Ramsays I think that made me think, oh, perhaps no one else does nowadays ?

I wear it all the time whilst cooking, cleaning or just while looking after the children. Mine is a bright floral Cath Kidtson (which I love). I don't think many of my friends wear one thou. I have just bought one for a present for a friend as she commented on mine so I hope she likes it!

When baking yes. Otherwise I only wear mine on a Friday night when eating a curry - otherwise I end up covered in it!

Yes, a blue and white striped butcher's one. Got fed up of ruining tops with grease and stains.

yes, every night I wear my pinny while making dinner. Usually an Emma Bridgewater one, but also have a cooks type stripey one. Tis essential to stop food getting onto my clothes, as is evidenced by the washing pile. ie most stuff is messy DS's and DH's!

BTW I am 40 and so it's high time I wore one

I wear an apron when cooking.

Keeps my clothes clean.

Ha! At least I can retire to my bed now with my book now in the knowledge that I am not alone in my pinny wearing and therefore not an old woman!

I wear a spotty oil cloth one when cooking, DH wears one that I bought him that says "nice buns"

I wear one round my waist for housework, mainly because I made it with a pocket on the front which I use for things I find on the floor that need binning or moving to another room (usually bits of lego that have been missed during tidying by the DCs)

I wear one for cleaning - it motivates me to finish what i'm doing and not get distracted (I've also been known to pop a head scarf on when I'm really on a mission) - god i'm old before my time

Butchers stripe all the time in the house......protects clothes from cooking splashes and from bleach/cleaning splashes.

Oilcloth for cutting hair.

Old wifey floral one in the caravan!

But I am fifty so I am well into middle age!

If you wear a pinny to cook your husbands dinner....you are meant to wear just the pinny!!

I wear a pink spotty one when cooking or washing up...or eating anything messy!
I'm in my twenties but was born middle aged. I have have been known to wear a head scarf in times of elaborate cleaning.

Yep I've got a lovely one with Clarice Cliff teapots on it! People like Tana Ramsay who are sniffy about it probably either change for dinner, or have someone to do their laundry for them, or most likely both

Actually what I really need is one which goes all the way round because I sometimes forget myself and wipe floury hands on the back of my jeans

But you have reminded me that when I was weaning my daughter I gave serious consideration to a housecoat. A pinny wouldn't have done the trick, side swipes with Weetabix covered arms always get my arms. Couldn't find one though. Any suggestions would be gratefully received, I start the whole malarkey again soon.

My grandma makes her own little pinnies. She makes extra big pockets in them and fills them with sweeties and munchies alongwhilst she does her housework. She is 90 and I still get my hand slapped if I try to nick one.

I have two. Mad flowery one for doing all cooking and cleaning, old tired one for doing bathrooms and filthy jobs (eg bathing dog, cleaning oven). I am 40.

I think people who don't wear pinnys are lazy and wasteful. I bet that Tara Ramsey just gets dirty and chucks her clothes in the wash, thus gobbling up natural resources. Instead of staying clean and tidy under a stout apron.

I have some old 1950s patterns for pinnys and want to make myself a fantastic wrap style onewith ribbon ties - a bit like this one
