Do you wear a pinny? Or am I just an old woman all-ready...

I enjoy the odd bit of cooking, have a DS who is a messy eater and I am a bit fussy about some of my clothes...a pinny seems to be a sensible option, not the floral just round the waist ones but a cotton chef style one.

I read a comment in a cook book, Tana Ramsays I think that made me think, oh, perhaps no one else does nowadays Hmm ?

Do you?

Yes, I have two - a utilitarian one and a pretty one from Anthropologie that DB got me for my birthday.

valiumredhead · 12/06/2011 12:30

Yes, I have lots of chef style aprons. I cook a lot and don't want my clothes to get splattered :)

sunshinenanny · 12/06/2011 13:31

I see missorinoco. more Hilda Ogden than 1950s housecoat. The trouble is this type of overall is usually made in horrible sticky nylon or polyester.

If you sew there are patterns for this type of garment so you could use your own material.

queenbathsheba · 12/06/2011 13:38

I'm thrilled to find I am not such an odd bod after all, there are more of us pinny wearing folk.

I have a lovely peacock blue paisley printed tie around the waist pinny. A lovely old lady that I used to look after gave it to me so everytime I wear it I'm reminded of the old baggage.

BartletForAmerica · 12/06/2011 14:12

I think I get more done when I'm wearing a pinny - it makes me feel guilty if I sit down for longer than my self-allotted break.

(And I'm only 30)

akaEmmaFrost · 12/06/2011 15:03

I do, another Cath Kidston one here. The blue spotty one. Wear it for washing up and baking.

missorinoco · 12/06/2011 19:34

Hilda Ogden! Suddenly the idea of a housecoat becomes less appealing....

bigbadbarry · 12/06/2011 19:39

Mine is a red B&Q one with Dave on the front in felt pen. It provides a talking point if people turn up while I am cooking.

ContentedMaybe · 12/06/2011 19:53

I have a whole drawer filled with pinnies - love them, especially the more old fashioned looking ones. Stupidly, I hadn't thought of wearing one when feeding DS, will definitely do that from now on :-)

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2011 19:58

Oooh, this thread has made me want a fancy pinny Grin

SloganLogan · 12/06/2011 21:42

Another pinny-wearer here!

argghh · 15/06/2011 13:36

I loved this thread, especially the phrase 'stout pinny'

Now why the heck have I not thought of getting a pinny before ? I must be mad. Shall invest in one at the weekend especially as I have just ruined one of my favourites t-shirts cleaning the barbeque.

MissPB · 18/06/2011 15:27

I wear an apron for cooking and cleaning! Much better than getting grease stains on my clothes. I have a dark blue one with pics of bottles of wine (bought by the in-laws - hmm are they trying to tell me something?) and a gorgeous lilac check one with a big pocket found at my local village fair.

I love the strawberry-rhubarb Anthropologie apron but can't stand the thought of asking DH for a pinny for christmas!

create · 18/06/2011 15:47

I have three Blush One for cooking/other kitchen work, one for cleaning and one for gardening. I can't do anything without getting some sort of muck down my front and it didn't seem right to clean the toilet in the apron I use for cooking, although I suppose if you don't wear an apron you'd be wearing the same clothes...

PinotsKittens · 19/06/2011 12:44

I have an awesome pinny

It's bottle green and extends all the way around to my bottom. It has an adjustable neck as well. With two deep pockets - one for clean, one for dirty. And it's really sturdy, heavy cotton.

My name is Pinot and I love my pinny!

MoreBeta · 19/06/2011 12:48

I'm wearing one now. It's just sensible when cooking but wearing one all day while caring for children might be OTT.

emmspemms · 19/06/2011 16:32

I always wear an apron for cooking and baking . Usually wear one for cleaning as well, as I'm quite cack handed and have quite often managed to wear the bleach as well as tipping it down the loo.
I have 4 aprons ( I think ) and my favourite is an Emma Bridgewater one that has " domestic goddess kitchen queen " printed all over it.
But I am 50 so I can do as I like.

PinotsKittens · 19/06/2011 16:36

You see this serves me right for gloating about my awesome pinny.

Bolognese/stain/T-shirt.

Bollocks.

WowOoo · 19/06/2011 16:38

I wear an oversized chef's one.
Too many previous disasters with red food dye or flour.

I have a sweatshirt material house coat that I sling on for cleaning.
It's covered in paint and stains and lovely and old like me.

DontCallMeBaby · 19/06/2011 17:28

Blue and white butcher stripe here. Only for cooking (and resultant eating, if it's curry and I'm wearing a pale colour).

Those Anthropologie ones are nicer than most of my clothes.

Lunabelly · 20/06/2011 07:19

All of the muslin square sick rags have now been pressed into teatowel service and they are not only far superior to real teatowels, they also make fab aprons when I tuck a corner into my bra strap whilst making bread, for I am a messy cow.

DH has several stripey aprons, but I stick with me muslins.

Grockle · 20/06/2011 07:34

I have 2 - a souvenir one from an American university (but is navy blue and fairly sensible and the uni used to be known for it's cordon Bleu cookery school) but I never wear it, instead favouring the mad orange and brown flowery one from the 70s. My dad was going to throw it out so I rescued it.

learningtofly · 20/06/2011 08:43

I have a pinny and I love it! Bright red with the heinz tomato ketchup label, tagline best worn with food. Essential when cooking curry from scratch as curry stains like nothing else!

My grandad had a similar one years ago with the Cinzano label on it, my granny still has that tucked away in a drawer

queenmaeve · 20/06/2011 18:06

i love my pinny Smile

youonlygetonelife · 20/06/2011 18:23

I was thinking about this thread and remembered something from a blog I follow -

tie one on

So cool!
