hi everybody

thank you carrots for todays mission and focus. Hope ds is feeling better.

I have just put barbie on tv for dd2 while I did my blessing. Need to catch up with missions, having a little rest and then going to put some plants in pots for the front door step. Very flylady like I feel !!!! Will just see how long they take to die bloom.

Carrotsandcelery · 17/02/2011 16:25

Hi Dosey! How did your Blessing go? Is your doorstep welcoming and gleaming?

I have got a surprising amount done. Ds seemed to be doing a bit better so I got him up at the table doing some simple sums in a workbook we had kicking about neatly stored on the landing. I decided I then had to do jobs close by so I have cleaned out our cutlery drawer and our cooking utensil drawer. I was Shock at the filth in them. I can't believe we were putting our clean stuff in them. Eurgh! Feels like a job well done.

We also have more than 30 little white medicine spoons. I think it must be about every spoon we have ever received. Shock Shock How many do you think I should keep?
I have also folded laundry while he does sums, cooked tea, hung up washing to dry and wiped down the kitchen units.

I am amazed what I can get done without ignoring ds - just popping off for a coup;e of minutes here and there while he is engrossed. Grin

How is everyone else getting on?

noeyedear · 17/02/2011 20:26

Thanks for the advice! My mum will probably come for a while, but she is obsessed with babies to the exclusion of almost everything else, so will probably have a job getting her to do housework-she'll probably run off with it, leaving me to do the housework!

I did sling DS but I thought that contributed to his inability to sleep. I may have to reort to it again though. I'll just have to see what happens I suppose.

bessie26 · 17/02/2011 21:51

noeye I'm still trying to work out how I'm going to juggle a baby & a toddler, let alone get any housework done!! (this is why I am so keen to get everything in order now, so I can be slovenly take it easy for a couple of months!). I remember DH reminding a couple of years ago that I was on MATERNITY leave, not housework leave, and that it didn't matter what state the house was in as long as DD & I were happy Grin
I need to get a sling (we borrowed one last time), we have a bouncy chair, and a swing chair which DD used to sit in quite happily while I washed up.

I've been very slack the last few days, so am going to be busy catching up tomorrow. One thing I have been managing to do though is going to bed on time Smile

planestrainsautomobiles · 17/02/2011 22:21

Carrots - thanks for the missions. When I declutted the kitchen cupboards last weekend, I was also disgusted by the filth in the utensils drawer! I want to try and keep it nice & tidy so my motto is to put everything back where it came from.

I've just spent close to an hour re-filing all my paperwork - feels good! I've now got extra folders for school admissions, DS1 pre-school paperwork, house stuff and DS1&2 activity stuff.

Carrotsandcelery · 18/02/2011 10:34

Friday's Mission From Kelly

We have definitely done this before. It is good to know that the list rotates and that we will be on top of all these things all the time eg. When the bedroom and kitchen ones come round again there will not be much to do as it won't be long since they were done! Grin

Friday's Daily Focus

Again one that is coming round frequently enough now that it is not a big job! Hurrah!

bessie26 · 18/02/2011 11:35

Hi, just having a look at the detailed cleaning list for the bathroom (I have a fun afternoon ahead!) & wondered what you all used to get the limescale off taps? I use Ecover stuff, but although it's great at keeping small amounts of limescale at bay, it's not so good at dealing with the big crusty bits I've got on the taps!

Carrotsandcelery · 18/02/2011 12:21

bessie I am in the NE Scotland so we don't have limescale so I am afraid I can't help. Sorry. Are you doing the whole detailed cleaning list for the bathroom and one other room? Let us know how you get on and how long it takes to do it.

Ds is off school again today. He is totally fine but they have a 48 hour rule on any sort of stomach related explosions. Grin

It does mean I am sort of chained to the kitchen again though as he is happy for me to potter about as long as I am in the same room with him.

I have been mean again and got him to do some writing while I decluttered the hoover cupboard. It is taking me forever to get these kitchen cupboards done but I am assuming that after this I will do it regurlarly and it won't take so long.

I am off to play with ds for now though as he has done a reasonable amount of work for now. dylsmum I should have got you to set homework for him! Grin

bessie26 · 18/02/2011 15:28

No limescale carrots? I am very jealous!

I've kinda done the detailed cleaning for the bathroom plus this weeks bathroom missions (except for cleaning the extractor fan & cobwebs, which I am going to do with the vacuum cleaner tomorrow) It took me just under 2 hours & that included repeated descaling of the taps which I am happy to report are now gleaming! Grin On the bath tap I sprayed loads of descaler onto it, then wrapped it up in some kitchen roll which I'd sprayed yet more descaler onto & left it for ages - it then came off really easily (with the help of a toothbrush & a little bit of scraping from the blunt end of my tweezers!

Just putting my feet up for 10mins now with a hot chocolate & some munchy seeds before DD wakes

Have you all got exciting weekends planned? DH & I are going out with friends on saturday night, and then spending most of sunday with his family, so I really must get to bed on time again tonight or I will be all grumpy at having to put up with the ILs on sunday!

Carrotsandcelery · 18/02/2011 16:14

Limescale sounds a total pain bessie - I had no idea. I have seen the adverts for Calgon and toilet cleaners but didn't realise it required such an effort to shift.

As for the weekend, DD and I are going to have a girly day out in town. I have had enough days kicking about the house with DS, lovely though he is.

I have decluttered another drawer in the kitchen and cleaned it out - it too was inexplicably filthy. Shock

What has everyone else got planned/been up to?

dylsmum1998 · 18/02/2011 16:34

afternoon all.
Not done much at all todya as I popped out for ds for a little bit of shopping and we were out for 4 hours or so Shock Still I have his new school shoes, and dd's birthday presents.

dc are upstairs playing together with dd's friend who is round for tea.

Bessie I use ecover type cleaners too. Apparently coca cola (has to be full fat) is good for limescale, but I've not tried it yet. OOh munchy seeds I bought some of those last year, so addictive.

Ds and I are going to go out for the day together tomorrow. dd is with her dad. Think we are heading off up to London I told him he can choose where.

Off to sort out dinner

SharonGless · 18/02/2011 18:21

Hello everyone
Sorry been MIA last couple of days but mad busy at work doing all sorts of mad shifts.
Haven't really managed to do much last couple of days other then wash load a day, swish and swipe and shining sink.

Still have loads of decluttering to do and feeling overwhelmed by it all. Felt I was doing well last week but need to focus again.

WEll done to everyone else

Carrotsandcelery · 18/02/2011 20:33

Sharon I was feeling the same but I have decided any decluttering is progress, whether it is 15mins or days and days of it.

SharonGless · 18/02/2011 21:19

I know you are right Carrots but am still feeling overwhelmed. Did the baby books before and passed them onto a friend who has an 8 month old DD. Need to look at these as achievements - lots of babysteps!

bessie26 · 18/02/2011 22:08

sharon, ditto what carrots says. It must be really difficult to schedule anything in when you're doing weird shifts, so I think you're doing well keeping up with the laundry, swishing & shining the sink. That's pretty much all I manage on the days when I work & I do regular hours!

carrots, the limescale only took so long because I let it build up last year when I was ill. Now it's all gone it'll be easy to keep under control Smile

off to bed now.

Carrotsandcelery · 18/02/2011 22:20

Sharon, bessie is right. I am a SAHM and I struggle with it so to do it with weird shifts is brilliant.
Just take it one little step at a time: one shelf, one drawer etc.

Dosey · 19/02/2011 14:57

hi everybody, well its a miserable day here so inbetween playing with dc I am catching up with this weeks zone. Do you all do the who list and how long do you spend doing the list. It seems to take forever but I figured if the zone comes round every 5 weeks I can just do some of the list and then catch up when the zone comes round again. If that make sense.

Have just made a huge cake with dd1 so looking forward to tucking into that with a cuppa soon.

Have a good weekend everybody xx

bessie26 · 19/02/2011 22:58

dosey that's my attitude to the zones too, I'll do as much of it as I can, but will do the bits I missed the next time it comes around.

I just got in from the pub... a whole evening drinking lime & soda! Have promised myself a large glass of wine tomorrow night after I have survived a day with (DHs) family!!

dylsmum1998 · 20/02/2011 10:10

dosey I just do what I can when I can, those are mighty long lists, coupled with everything else we have to do in a week.

I spent yesterday with ds having a ds's tour of London. We looked at the outside of the O2- he didn't want to go in.
we saw the Thames Barriers
went to Oxford Street
went to High street Kensington
Went to the museum of Bank of England- turns out is shut weekends
Saw the outside only of St Pauls Cathedral
went on umpteen tubes
and had a Pizza hut before coming home.

It was a very unique and fun day. I think he really enjoyed it being just the 2 of us and that I let him choose exactly where we went.

Today I have to do lots of catch up stuff. I need to do the faffy bits of my assignment (double space everything, contents page etc)
I need to clear the car out as I have lost my student card and park and ride card. Only place left to loo is the car, which is a tip!
I have started the half termly shirt rewhitening session
need to change all the beds
goto asda
ds to his dads

so far I have hotspotted the living room and hoovered all downstairs.

BBL

Carrotsandcelery · 20/02/2011 15:37

Hello everyone.

I also did one to one yesterday with my dd. We went to a cheap early showing at the cinema yesterday and then to the art gallery, had a panini for lunch and went shopping for her best friend's birthday present. She then had to try on every single high heeled shoe she saw before I could stand it no longer and we went for tea (Chiquitos). We normally order the Nachos to share as a starter so I did the same, not computing that there were only 2 of us and not the usual 4. It is huge! We were full up by the time our main courses came Blush Very very yummy though!
We stayed the night at a friend's empty flat in town so I cleaned it this morning (only 4 rooms so didn't take long)and now can't summon it to do anything here now that I am home. [lazy emoticon]

dylsmum I am Envy that you can pop into London for the day. It has so much to offer for dcs and lots of it is free too.

Dosey I am still decluttering so it is overwhelming to try to do the complete detailed cleaning list each week as well. I have decided the same and that I will do what I can but be realistic. I think the more times we rotate through the whole cycle the easier it will become and the quicker it will be. eg my kitchen cupboards will just need a quick tidy up rather than a deep declutter.

dylsmum1998 · 20/02/2011 17:24

carrots we have done that with the nachos starter in chiquitos before, too used to pizzahut nachos Smile
sound slike you had a fab day too.

I dropped ds off to his dads, went to asda and have sat on the sofa in front of the tv sewing since. Just making dinner quick as I am off to spiritualist church with my auntie soon. Have never been before so not entirely sure what to expect.

Carrotsandcelery · 20/02/2011 18:11

I hope you report back dylsmum.

A friend of mine went to one a few years ago just to humour another friend really. She didn't believe in a word of it.

Earlier in the day she had been writing a sympathy card for a friend whose child had passed away. She had no idea what to write so had thought out loud, "Oh Mum, what can I say?" (Her Mum had passed away a long time ago.)
She didn't think anymore about it until at the meeting she was mentioned and thanked, supposedly by her Mum, for thinking of her Mum when she had been writing the card that day!!! She was freaked out for weeks but not frightened. It seemed to comfort her.

I am not sure if I hope you have an interesting time or not!! Confused

dylsmum1998 · 20/02/2011 20:50

It was interesting carrots, nothing for me. I did think at one point my nanna was there but then something was said that wasn't right. My heart was thudding so much.

Apparently the lady today did it different to the others. This lady would give some background and offer it to the whole group to see who recognised it. I found this very strange as it was all rather vague.

Normally the people say I'm talking to you and go to the person. I'd have to go again to make up my mind on it. Not easy when its on a Sunday night and the children are usually home.

Carrotsandcelery · 20/02/2011 22:04

I'm freaked out enough just now from watching "Being Human" - I would be far too chicken to go or think about it too much. You should maybe see it done in the usual style before you make up your mind. The vague method sounds a bit suspicious. When my friend went she was approached specifically with very specific details and lots of them.

dylsmum1998 · 20/02/2011 23:24

that was my thinking on it carrots, the few details she gave could have applied to anyone. As I say it could have been my nanna except one detail was wrong, so I didn't speak up. Others did say "everything except that one detail is wrong" and that seemed to be disregarded. I'm skeptical but not a complete non believer. I was approached in a pub once, early on in the eve, I was told some facts about me that no-one knows. So I believe there are some true people out there but I was convinced by this person tonight.

Anyway I am shattered now and I have to be up early tomorrow, so night. Will be back tomorrow. Hope you all have good days
