I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? hi everybody my dds are at grandparents, dp is out playing snooker. Just me and the cat and dog so I have managed to do todays mission. I found all sorts of crap under the sofa. Also done 15 minutes of decluttering. Feeling very pleased with myself. Also had a lovely bath and a cuppa in peace and quiet. Bliss!!!!

Carrotsandcelery · 31/01/2011 22:14

Sounds like you earned the bath and cuppa Dosey. I hope you enjoy the silence.
I got 25 more minutes done in the study.
There is now a clearish desk space. It was a bit of a Shock to see it tbh!
I also discovered that dh has filled nearly all of the new furniture in the lounge with cds - hundreds of them! We are talking drawers and drawers full of them. Shock
I accidentally got my revenge though as I forgot I had stripped ds bed and he had to make it up for him Grin
I am having trouble containing the amount of rubbish I have created with all this decluttering. The recycling is full, the wheelie bin is full and there are bags waiting at the back door. I am also putting stuff in the clothing recycling on a daily basis. I will end up filling that all by myself at this rate!
I still have a long way to go but we are definitely feeling the benefits of what has been achieved so far though.

bessie26 · 31/01/2011 22:14

carrots I did notice a BIG difference the first time I cleaned them, but since I started cleaning them regularly (before they get really dirty) it's not so noticeable.
We had some building work done a few years ago, and even though the dyson never got used to directly clean up the mess, it still got loads of fine dust (from plaster etc) in it & despite repeated washing, I ended up having to buy new filters for it - it was like having a new vacuum cleaner! Grin

bessie26 · 31/01/2011 22:23

dosey sounds like you've had a lovely evening! Smile

carrots perhaps once the study is clear your DH can move all his CDs into there? Seriously though, iPods (other music storage systems are available Wink) are definately the way to go. All the CDs can go into the loft & you can take all your music with you everywhere. We can play ours on the DVD player in the lounge, on the DAB player in the kitchen, and I can play mine through my car stereo too Grin

Right, must sleep now. Will be putting a carrier bag in the car tomorrow so I can tidy the car next time I get chance!

Carrotsandcelery · 31/01/2011 22:29

And baby wipes to "dust" it bessie - will have to get this ipod in motion I think and reclaim my lovely lounge storage.

noeyedear · 01/02/2011 11:13

CD's are the bane of my life! I keep telling DH to put his CD's on his Ipod, but he won't! I've taken to listing them on Amazon myself! It's part of my 15 minute room rescue in spare room! Don't want them in the loft because they just move from loft to loft every time we move, never listened to!

noeyedear · 01/02/2011 11:17

Bessie I hate my Dyson, it's too cumbersome, and I hate emptying the dust out of it, so I'm hoping I can get a new old fashioned hoover- May leave it to burn out! ( Not really- better do it- thanks for telling me!)

Carrotsandcelery · 01/02/2011 13:51

I had a Dyson until a few weeks ago and I hated it with a passion noeyedear. I eventually cracked and went back to a Sebo and it is amazing the difference it has made. I could see the carpet changing colour before my eyes, despite having hoovered that morning already.
We have a dog and the Dyson just couldn't cope with the hair either.
The Sebo cost a packet but it was definitely worth it. Our last one lasted over 15 years so hopefully it is a long term investment.

Tuesday's Kelly Mission

Hello everyone.
Today's email encourages us to follow our usual routine of dishes, washing, dressed, make bed, declutter, hot spots, room rescues etc.

The daily focus seems to be to plan the week (strange to do it on a Tuesday but hey ho).

It also encourages us to do something fun for us - I am not sure getting my eyebrows shaped was "fun" but it was for me. I think my dog walk on the beach was more the fun thing.

I am off to make tonight's tea and then see how much of my routine I can get done before school pick up.

Tues afternoon is a bit of a crazy one so there won't be time again until after tea.

Have a great day everyone.

bessie26 · 01/02/2011 21:04

We have 2 dysons! (DH & I both had our own houses before we got together) DH's was the (at the time) top of the range one, mine was the cheapo one - his is in the garage because it is too big & cumbersome to use - even putting the hose away is a PITA!
When mine dies, we'll use DH's until I decide what I want next... sebo & meile seem to both be popular on here

Don't think I'm going to get the mission done today, I've done yesterdays vacuuming, filled a charity bag ready to go out tomorrow, sorted DD/my bags for tomorrow & washed up the dinner stuff. I'm just putting my feet up for 15min (I have my timer on!) before I dry up, shine sink & go upstairs for 15mins in the wardrobe, read a bit of my book & get to sleep at a reasonable time as DD's at nursery tomorrow, which means an early start

Curlybrunette · 01/02/2011 21:12

Hi everyone,

Well done on a month of FLYlady, I'm only a week and a half in but am so glad I've done. I do feel pyschologically a million times better than a couple of weeks ago.

Last night while the dh read the kids their stories I went downstairs and pulled out the sofas to vacuum behind them. Don't remember the last time I did that, it was really quite disgusting Blush and it did only take 10 minutes, if that, to pull them out and vacuum. I just wouldn't have done it before as it seemed a big job.

I realised that todays mission, getting rid of the hot spots in the entrance and dining table, didn't need doing as I've already cleared them in the last week or so. I felt so proud of myself!

Good times,
x

Carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2011 10:56

No email today Hmm has anyone else had one?

I know, obviously, to follow the usual routines. I have made tea and done the ironing too.

Wednesday's mission from Kelly

We don't have a dining room - it is an open plan kitchen, dining, family room - so I guess I have to do the whole room Shock. There is not a lot of wall though - windows or kitchen cupboards really Grin

This is Wednesday's daily focus

Carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2011 12:34

I have been in the study again and I am getting really excited. It is beginning to look much more like a room again and not a loft space. I have no idea what to do with dh's golf clubs and the massive box of craft stuff that we have gathered but the rest of it is very close to being under control. Woo hoo!

bessie26 · 02/02/2011 17:50

Yay! Well done carrots! Grin

Curlybrunette · 02/02/2011 21:03

Yay well done carrots.

I haven't done much today (the usual swish and swipe and am just better now at clearing up after myself without thinking about it) But had a hellish teatime with ds1 who fell over and acted as though he had lost a leg. He was way over dramatic for a v long time, then as I was just about to leave for work at 5pm, coat on and everything (dh was out so my auntie was looking after the boys) ds2 god knows how, pulled the whole floor to ceiling toy cupboard/shelves over. Luckily he was fine, a bit shocked but it came towards him and he had his arms up supporting the weight so everthing fell off the shelves or out of the cupboards but he didn't get squashed.

Obviously I am so relieved he is fine but if you had seen the mess. We keep everything in that unit, crayons, sand, trains, card, dinosaurs, jigsaws, games etc. etc. the room looked like a bomb had hit it. I had to leave it as I was going to work, I'm back now and have had dinner so am going to tackle it.

We use our dining room as a play room so I guess this week when flylady talks about the dining room I should do the playroom. It's like dodgy fate!

x

SharonGless · 02/02/2011 21:23

Yeay well done Carrots - almost there with the study! I only just got the email so presume there has been a glitch in the system.

Just read thread and was sure I had posted yesterday but can't see it. Worked today so only had time to do load of washing, get children tea bathed and to bed, cook our tea and have cleaned up plus shined sink. Bags done for tomorrow and I swished bathroom while DC having bath. No missions for me on work days but have done a 15 min declutter in kitchen so have achieved something today

Curly - OMG sounds like a nightmare. However maybe it is a sign and you should declutter it while you are going along. Our craft unit is in the kitchen and really bugging me. I have decluttered two drawers of it so just last two to do. Thats my plan for Friday

Dosey · 02/02/2011 21:36

oh dear Curly hope ds is fine both him and you must have been scared to death.

Todays been a work day for me today too so only just managed to do my usual routines and a little bit of a mission from yesterday, I will catch up with my missions tomorrow. My routines are coming on very nicely and I dont seem to have to think about them now. I just need to concentrate on my 15 minutes declutter and my missions, these are much more achieveable when I am not at work.

Happy flying everybody xxx

Carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2011 21:41

Curly that sounds seriously scary. Thank goodness your ds is ok. Can the unit be pinned to the wall somehow so it can't tip again?

I finally got my email today too. Does everyone get one - if so I will stop summarising it here.

It sounds like a sign though Curly - I suspect your playroom is about to be decluttered.

What sort of craft unit do you have Sharon - I am seeking a better way to store our excess of craft materials?

bessie26 · 02/02/2011 22:55

curly glad your DS is ok, I keep hassling DH to somehow pin DDs wardrobe to the wall so she can't do something similar, but as we've just found out the plaster on her walls is actually coming away from the wall (v.bad plastering work 3yrs ago) I don't think DH is going to be keen to hammer anything into them!

carrots I don't get the emails, but am happy to subscribe now I know I can just get one a day!

I'm also interested in hearing about your craft storage, we just have everything in a cardboard box atm, but can see we will need something better soon.

I've been at work too, so bare minimum routine for me - although DH seems to have taken over the sink shining Shock[love] so I have no excuse to not do an extra bir of decluttering before bed!

Carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2011 10:47

bessie - great that dh has been assimilated. My dh has too. He can't go to bed now without a clean kitchen, the dishwasher dealt with and his clothes sorted for the next day. He will check ds had clothes (dd is old enough to sort herself out - especially now I know her clothes are clean and put away). This has all become habit and we don't have to think about it much really.

I have a desk in our kitchen with a file with shelves in it for letters from school etc. Next to it we have a mini drawer unit with a drawer each for pens, pencils, coloured pencils and pens. This system works well for us but doesn't look beautiful I have to admit.

Next to that we have stacking baskets with paint brushes, rubbers, rulers, notepads etc stored in them. They are full to bursting. Where does all this stuff come from?

The kitchen cupboards above it are supposed to be devoted to craft materials but they are an absolute mess tbh.

Added to that I have a box as tall as ds in the study full to bursting with craft materials and craft kits. We have loads of the stuff.

Both my dcs are creative types but half the stuff never gets used because we can't get to it.

I am considering being really brave and breaking into the cupboard in the study. It has two shoulder high plastic drawer units in it with goodness only knows what inside them. The fact I don't know leads me to believe I need very little of it. If I could empty them I could store the craft stuff in there out of sight.

It will be a MASSIVE job but hey, if I can inearth my study then I can do the cupboard.

I saw similar drawer units in (whipers) Asda the other day for £19. Again they are not beautiful but if you had a cupboard you could hide it in it might work.

I don't know what happened in the house this morning but it took me an hour to clear the kitchen table, clean the work tops, fold laundry, put washing on, hoover (even into the study now!) and so on.

Luckily I had automatically tidied the entrance to the house - shoes, jackets etc - and hoovered it so that must be becoming habit too.

Slowly and steadily I am reclaiming my house!

Sorry for the enormous postShockjust realise the size of it!

noeyedear · 03/02/2011 11:29

Gaah! I need some motivation! I've done some budgeting, but can't seem to get off my butt and do anything! Is there anything I can do from the sofa? I might do the weekly meal planner!

Carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2011 11:54

Can you take a pile of laundry to the sofa to sort, or a pile of filing? You can read the testimonials on the website - I haven't done this yet but it would be good for motivation on a sofa day I should imagine.

You could do a month's menu plan - I did this about 10 days ago and printed if off the computer and stuck it inside the cupboard door. The dcs love it as they can go and see what's for tea and seem to take it as fixed fact and moan less as they know it won't change!

I am very surprised with myself as I have emptied one set of drawers already. The majority of it was rubbish - letters from 2005 Blush and stuff like that. There were some cute photos and my ds record card from his first shoe fitting. Now I have a photo drawer in the lounge so I put stuff like that in there too.

I have taken a break because I don't want to drag loads out and then burn out. Babysteps, babysteps...

Come on noeyedear you can keep going - you will feel better. Grin

noeyedear · 03/02/2011 12:05

Carrots I do have some laundry to sort, as a matter of fact! I'll do a months meal planning, then go upstairs then have lunch and then do 15 minutes in the spare room- how does that sound??

Carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2011 12:16

Report back please on jobs well done - then you can mumsnet guilt free too Grin

noeyedear · 03/02/2011 16:24

Thanks Carrots just the motivation I needed- 4 weeks meals planned, laundry tidied, 2 bags of stuff for charity retrieved from the spare room- and even a pile of stuff for my hospital bag sorted and ready for DC2 in 20 DAYS! EEK! Just going to get tonights dinner ready- after my cup of tea!
