Ali, that's great. I remember so well the relief when my section for DS was agreed. I wish they wouldn't make it so hard.

Anon - its a bit of a long story, but basically work was terrible last year and I basically missed the whole build up to Christmas, did last minute panic buys on Christmas eve, no cards at all etc. This year, I am off sick at the moment with stress (feel v pathetic saying that but as I say its a long story Sad). As I have time, I really want to make Christmas nice and enjoy it, so I just thought I'd get it done. Still need to get something for DH's brother and my mum - I have ideas but there is a craft fair locally tomorrow through to Saturday, so am hoping to get something nice and individual for mum there.

Still working on list...

minimammoth · 01/12/2010 14:40

Have made it back from worcs, it is gently snowing now. So have got a few more presis to tick off list. Also bought stuff to prepare drawings for exhib.
But more importantly had an extravagent moment and bought shiney red patent heels ( out of my normal budget range, but I fell in love and am therefore not responsible. So at the black tie do I will be wearing red heels and erm.....

JustKeepSparkling · 01/12/2010 15:18

PMSL Mini - red heels and.....pjs? Grin

Purple - hope that Christmas goes really well for you this year. We didn't have a 'normal' time last year (DS2 in GOSH for brain surgery) so just hoping to pootle along this year with everything when & where it should be :)

Oh and Ali - that's great news, a great weight off. Meanwhile I've cancelled my VBAC appt as the community MW said it's an hour of one-to-one with the hosp MW telling me over and over how i can't have a HB. Not my idea of helpful or useful. Yours maybe more or not, in the opposite way.

Hi CC :)

anonymousbird · 01/12/2010 15:57

Mini - red shiny shoes, you little devil!!! Xmas Grin

Purple - sorry to hear you have had such a rough time. Sounds like you have Christmas this year well and truly nailed, I really need to get going myself...

Ali - good result, well done!

Who was asking about boots earlier? I have Le Chameau which I live in through the winter. Amazingly comfortable and warm and don't look like "wellies" as such, so I just wear them all the time. Perfect for current combo of dog/snow/building site/desperate cold... Not cheap, but DH bought them for me about 4 or 5 years ago as combined birthday and christmas and they look almost as good now as they did then!

Ok, here goes, our tea date was cancelled due to the weather, so I can get some more done before DH gets home...

  • Outside christmas lights - can we make it work?
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/12/2010 16:04

JKS - that isn't exactly helpful is it?! I am hoping that they don't lay it on too thick and that is informative rather than someone trying to persuade me.
A big part of my wanting a section is how badly let down I felt by the hospital midwives when I had DS - procedure for induced labour wasn't followed, concerns that DH and I tried to raise with them were brushed aside, and most worryingly the midwife who was with us for 8 hours overnight didn't seem to know how to read and graph and didn't pick up that DS' heartrate had dropped by over 30 beats per minute over that 8 hour period. So if I get the 'you'll be better off with us rather than with those interfering Drs' line, I shall just get up and walk out.

Purple - last year sounds horrid :( Really glad you are enjoying the build up this time! Xmas Smile

Ooh shiny red shoes Grin Don't think it matters what you wear with them, you can always distract people by saying "look at my lovely shoes" Grin

Was meant to be doing online shop earlier while ds was asleep but got distracted by wrapping paper and ribbons Blush

Will try to do it now as my lovely friend has taken dd to dance for me again.

WastingAway · 01/12/2010 16:36

Lol Ali! I'm thinking start ctx about 6.30, get boys to bed, ring DH, get friend round (assuming DH at work), start filling pool, Dh arrives, get in pool, have baby :)

Oh somewhere in there a MW can turn up if they feel like it Grin

Hoping for baby & placenta delivered and small glass of bubbly in hand by, say....8.30pm?

anonymousbird · 01/12/2010 17:58

mini you little devil! How fun.....

purple sorry to hear you have had a rough time. Hope things improving. Am so impressed with yr christmas organisation.

jks you are definitely a very gd neighbour indeed!

Ali good result.

Who was after mega boots earlier? Just remembered, meant to post - Le Chameau lined "wellies". I live in mine and they look as good today as they did 5 years ago when I got them. Nt cheap bt heavenly. On phone so can't post a link. Right now with snow, dog, building site etc they are the dogs gonads.

Right, school time. Will list later.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 01/12/2010 18:30

Have finally completed online shop Had a code for waitrose and with that and the free delivery they do it was the same price as asbo (put it through my supermarket as well as waitrose for research purposes!). Only thing is they don#t do the massive boxes of nappies so will have to buy more in a month or so.

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 01/12/2010 19:01

Evening, it is freezing out side, but thankfully we have had no more snow fall since weekend

Anon I was loving those boots until I seen the price[eek]

Mini love the sound of those red heels

I left the ironing until now, and now I CBA, just want to get dcs to bed and curl up infront of fire, I am vvvv tired again, must get some spatone

purplearmadillo · 01/12/2010 19:17

JKS I hope your DS is ok now, that sounds really frightening. DS is under a consultant for his chest problems at GOSH and we have spent lots of time there in the last year. We did a couple of overnighters for various tests and things last January and the snow now is bringing back memories of that. It was a very stressful time.

Mini - LOVE the sound of the red shoes and I am sure you deserve them!!

Ali - what's your EDD? Mine's 17th April, DS1 was 38 weeks, DS2 40wks, so who knows when this one will come, could i beat you? Grin

Purple - that sounds scary too, what's up with DS? DH & I took it in turns to stay in GOSH, the other one stayed at a friends flat. One day i left GOSH about 4pm, in the snow, no taxis, walked all the way down Holborn, got soaked, before i found a miraculous taxi on Aldwych. brrr. Mind you i went to flat, had a hot bath, decent food & early night. DH stayed up most of the night with DS2 who wasn't sleeping well.
Think Christmas will always remind us of that hospital stay.

Those boots do look nice, luckily none in my size as v ££!
Will stick with extra sock when i use my wellies! Have some Ugg boots my MIL bought last year so they do fine for normal cold weather.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/12/2010 20:02

JKS - 26th March they have moved me to, so I'm 24 weeks tomorrow! Longest scenario for me would be a section at 41 weeks if I did want to wait and see if I went into labour, so you would be about 38 weeks at that point?

Comtessa - how are you today? No sign of baby?

Anon - I don't do enough tramping about to justify those boots. I have a lovely pair of walking boots which I wear when the weather is really bad, but I can't drive in them and I won't be able to bend over to do them up for much longer!!

Purple - we are in a cottage so no huge white walls here. If I clear a lot of junk toys and add the appropriate amount of fairy lights we'll get that Nigella effect. Maybe I should redefine to 'Cosy Nigella Xmas'.

Morning All. Don't know what happened there,, the post I wrote in the school car park (but which would not post up) then appeared 3 hours later?! Xmas Confused Wierd!

As for the boots, yes, heinously expensive, but they were a joint present AND I wear them every day for about 5 months of the year... so price per wear (and comfort...) is pretty good and I suspect they will last another 5 and maybe 5 after that too....

Anyway, a quick one to get me started:

Today

  • Up, showered and dressed me and DC?s
  • DC to school
  • Watch DD in play
  • General tidy, make beds etc

  • Outside christmas lights - can we make it work?
